Aimed at newbies, seemingly at housewives, this book actually is very nifty despite my not being the intended audience.

It opens with a clear promise and delivers on that quickly: ten times focus in four days.

It starts with selling readers on meditation, which I skipped.

Then it describes breath meditation, a basic concentration practice (focus on the gap between exhale and inhale), includes a charming OM meditation for more shamatha, then gives a charming concentration exercise of visually counting breaths from a hundred (or 30) down to 1.

It discusses using a candle for concentration practice, then - and this is the practical part - it describes conceptual meditation.

Basically day 1 is breath following, day 2 OM, day 3 concentration, and day 4 problem solving

It's a tightly written and convincing program for increasing practical focus on worldly goals, and an excellent short read.

I’ll be honest. I requested a copy of this review edition with a skeptical frame of mind. I like the idea of meditation, especially since my bipolar mind usually jumps from thought to thought without taking a break, but my past attempts have all failed. Again, the bipolar mind has enough trouble controlling two thoughts, let alone clearing the mind completely.
The book does instruct readers on the traditional “clear your mind” meditation, but then goes a step forward and introduces us to Conceptual Meditation. Conceptual meditation encourages you the participant to center yourself, identify two events in your life that you feel good about, and then reflect on these events and how (if) they affected who you are today.
Another helpful chapter is “Help! How can I keep my ‘meditation high’ throughout the day?” The author offers many tips on how to keep this meditative attitude when the rest of the day gets crazy. Alternatively, the author then includes a chapter with all the major roadblocks people come up with (drowsiness, lack of time, boredom, and procrastination, among others) and rebuts those excuses, helping the reader find ways to overcome their roadblocks.
Overall, I think this is a great book. Even if you’re not interested in practicing meditation fully, there are plenty of tips and nuggets of wisdom that you can take and adapt to cope with the fast-paced and demanding life you probably live.

I'm a meditation newbie. This is the first meditation book I've read. I'm under a lot of stress right now and I was willing to try anything to relieve that stress and get more energy. I have a friend who meditates and so I thought I'd try it out. It took me a couple chapters to get into the book. The opening is a lot of scientific information, but once the meditation lessons began they were really easy to follow and the author has a friendly voice that is easy to relate to. The author did not come across as a teacher but as a fellow student of meditation.

While the book is titled the Four Day Mediation Solution, it will take a lot longer than four days to master. However, I am very happy with my results. I can now focus on my breathing and instantly relax. I recommend this book to anyone considering meditation or who has tried it before and found it too difficult. This book will make it easy for you to mediate to a better life! It is well worth the 99 cents.

Meditating for Dummies. Trite but accurate. Step by step instructions on how to relieve the everyday stress of your life with witty remarks through out. Followed the instructions and now there is a group of friends relaxing for 20 minutes at a time. If you have never meditated then this is the book for you!
