What do you do if you’re a black man in all ways except one; on the outside? That is the dilemma that Tony faces as a Japanese American raised in an all black urban neighborhood. Now as an adult Tony finds himself attracted to black women but due to social taboos is unable to have a true relationship.
It doesn’t help that his mother will not accept the fact that he will never marry any of the many Asian women that she randomly sets him up with. But then one day the woman of his dreams walks into the office. She is everything that Tony wants; bodacious, big booty, big boobs and black. The only problem; he is her boss.
Nikki likes Tony but finds herself attracted to his friend Dean, African American and sexy! Unfortunately he is not nearly the man that Tony is and by the time that she discovers this it may be too late.
Pepper Pace is the pen name used by the author. Born and raised in Cincinnati, she has always enjoyed creativity. At a very young age, Pepper had a gift for art and would spend most of her spare time drawing images that she later began adding stories behind. Soon writing became more important than the illustrations and though she still loved art, it took a back seat to her real love.
Pepper wrote her first novel when she was 12 years old and had written 2 more by the age of 18. Too shy to share her work with anyone, Pepper stock piled her many stories into notebooks until she came upon Literotica.com and was compelled to share her craft.
Pepper became instantly popular and won several awards each year in which she submitted a story to the site. After receiving popular feedback, she grew in confidence and created a popular blog entitled Writing Feedback where she encourages her readers to interact with her on topics concerning, music, writing, art and pop culture, and can be contacted at her blog: pepperpacefeedback.blogspot.com/
Pepper lives in Cincinnati where many of her characters also reside.
Truly an engaging love story where the heroine keeps putting the hero into that despised 'friendzone' because of his height!
Toi aka Tony is a short Japanese- American raised in an African-American community who has always loved him some African-American women. Was he lucky in love? No, well not until he meets Nikki, a BBW African-American beauty who works at his company where is is the boss/supervisor. Mind you Tony has a mother who wants him to marry within his own race but Tony was instantly attracted to Nikki even though there was a distraction in Nikki's life by the name of Dean, a handsome African-American.
I laughed, hollered and cried for the H/h. There were a few editing problems as well that took me longer to want to continue reading the story but all in all, I gave "Miscegenist Sabishii" a 4.5 star rating and hope that there will be more to this couple's story in the future.
Pepper Pace has done it again! I would have never thought an Asian man could hold it down ,I guess I am just stupid because she showed me he is just a man so like a man he has just as much to offer as the next guy. I knew Tony was Japanese in this book but once I started reading he was just a man who loved a woman. He was fine , he was sexy and he was loving what more could a girl want. Nikki went for the wrong guy at first but she came to see Tony was the man for her she had no choice but to fall in love with her he was everything she dreamed of.This was a wonderful book one that shows me that love has no color , love is just love . Hey next time I see a Asian man I am going to look at him differently.
How do you do it Ms. Pace? How do you write all of these amazingly unique stories, but in the same genre? I'm not complaining. Thank goodness for such a talent, I'm just a bit in awe, I guess. I've been on an IR/Pepper Pace kick for the past few days now. Catching up on her writings I've been wanting to read for awhile. And as of yet, I have not been disappointed.
Yes, you guessed it, I loved this one too. I am totally and completely; truly, madly, deeply in love with Tony *sighs*
And I loved the dynamic between he and Nikki Their plight & circumstances and what was going on around them. They were beautiful together as well as individually. Loved the way things unfold & come together in this one. Even when they hit a few snags, the story still flowed beautifully.
I really love the title of this one. It says everything about the content of this story. I would highly recommend this read. And if you're looking for great Interracial reads concerning real people & real issues/circumstances, then I highly recommend Pepper Pace, period :)
Male protag is a short (strike 1) Asian American real estate agent whose street name is "T-baby" and has spent the last 8% trying to confuse me he's "hood" (strike 2).
The book is written in an almost dear diary format switching between protags (strike 3 you're out).
Pepper Pace knocked it out of the park once again with her unique style of writing an imagination. What are the odds that a first generation Japanese American man. Who happens to be a brother on the inside meets the woman of his dreams who happens to be a Big breasted and big booty African-American. Just the type of woman he loves. Well that is the premise of this book. This book teaches never judge a book by its cover. 5 stars. I highly recommend this book.
Pepper pace has a knack for taking the unconventional and making it mainstream. You need only read her other books (Juicy, Beast et al) to know just how proficient she is with upending stereotypes; both at IR and societal levels. This would have been rated higher but for the fact that Nikki slept with two men only to discover she was pregnant and had no idea of who the father was. A bit too messy for me. Still, an engaging read. 3.5 stars.
Ms.Pace, Ms.Pace you never fail me and full of so many surprises. I could barely stand it not knowing was so much torture. I just knew that girl Nikki hadn't lost all her sense and took Dean naked head. I was like come on now don't make her that clueless. I would have to say Tony was a stand up kind of guy...I was in absolute awe of him. Pepper Pace always builds the characters with such substance. At first I thought I was going to be a little indifferent with his mom. That turned out to be such a pleasant surprise. Now the one thing I was disappointed about was the length of it typically I say away from books that is less than 250 pages. Only because I tend to need more and the longer the book the more I get. I'm not a novella type of chic at all...they piss me off seriously. So I really took a chance on this one considering it not even 200 pages. I so enjoyed it two thumbs up as usual.
Another great read from Ms. Pepper Pace . This was a fast paced story. At first I was a little unsure since the H is a little shorter than the h (I'm not into short men or shorter characters) but as I kept reading I got more and more into the story. Their chemistry was great and could not be denied they were great for one another. There was one "big" hurdle they faced and to be honest I was bothered by this. But again as the story kept going I realized that the author was right; when you love someone, you love all of them not just parts of them.
I would of liked if the epilogue had more of Tony and Nikki. Again it's only a 4.5 for me since there were many grammatical errors. Also I've noticed this author might overly use exclamation marks. These things still don't take away from the great storyline. I recommend this story and I will soon be reading more from this great author.
I have to say this is another winner from Ms. Pepper pace, even though it was short, I enjoyed it. T-baby and Nikkita, what a cute couple. Loved that T-Baby, accepted being a Japanese but loving African American Culture since he was living in the area. I would have like this book to be a little more. His mom was comical; his dad was accepted the relationship. I was so happy when the baby was Tony aka T-Baby. I didn't want Dean to be the dayum dad, he was a jealous, hater because what T-Baby was all about. The love that T-Baby had for Nikkita was Wow, such a romantic man, dayum, where can I find someone like that, lol. The wedding wow, how lovely it was. Funny what they went through between his parents and how Tony's mom, just loved Nikkita. Tony was just worried. Kudos to Ms. Pace this book was very nicely written.
The story absolutely gets a 5. I loved Tony and Nikki, but for much of this I was distracted by poor editing, and then at a couple of points every other sentence in the internal dialogue ended with an exclamation mark.....or had they always been there and I didn't notice at first *raises a suspicious brow*. Anyway....sweet couple. Steamy love scenes. The editing gets better if you hang with it. Maybe I'm just being snobby. I still love Pepper Pace.
This is another home run from Ms. Pace! I cried; I laughed; I moaned! At first, I was totally put off by the whole Dean situation. But, I'm sooo glad Tony and Nikki got their HEA! Tony has so much love in his heart! Aww;-)
So this was aright. I might be rating it a bit higher becuase I personally love seeing my culture represented (Japanese romance are hard to come by believe it or now ) and so seeing that meshed with african american culture was really nice! however I don't think that it was all that great of a book. Toi ( or Tony as he likes to go by) was kinda a confusing charachter and oh my dear lord if we use the word bootylious one more time in the next year it would be too soon. The author reeeeallly wanted to make use of that word. I also think that it felt too much like playing at trying to be comfortable in african american culture rather then really being comfortable in it. I myself grew up surrounded by people of all cultures and diversity (I'm a product of to cultures coming together) and I know that I don't need to play at knowing a culture to feel comfortable in it. Anyway that particular part kinda bugged me but Nikita and Toi were cute together and I did like their relationship so that's that saves the book a little. Overall it was a shot easy read.
I really do not know what the fuss is about with this book, I'm new to reading all these IR romance novel and so far only Pepper Pace had done it for me but with this book god I am so disappointed...pshhh I can't believe I paid £3 something for this rubbish, this "book" felt more like a draft than a "book". It was so fast paced, it did not give you time to connect with any of the characters, I hate leaving bad review but damm with this book I just couldn't help myself. If you like a good decent book, where the story and characters are built then don't waste your time on this book... Hmm I wonder if amazon can refund your money back...
I hated to give this a two star but the only reason I finished this was because I payed for it. The story is not realistic and the way the author describes and even tells the story is kind of all over the place. It's just not realistic. The dialogue was too long and didn't make sense. I don't recommend this book. This is not a true depiction on pepper pace as an author. This is me reading the story after wheels of steel which was an excellent novel by pace! I gave it two stars because of the dynamic between the two characters the HEA.
Its get three stars simply for being pepper pace but to me this book was a little bit childish. Like the writing seemed like it was from a 15 year kid. Just not what i have come to expect from Ms. Pace.
I usually like the books by this author a lot, but somehow this book just didn't reach me. I didn't feel the character's passion as with previous books. I didn't care as much about Tony and I found him a little cold.
Pace has done it again. She has written another love story about real, relatable characters in everyday situations who fall in love. Am I wrong in thinking this is rare in this genre? Authentic characters is essentially what I love most about Pace's writing. I adore this love story and reading the epilogue (which did not even involve the H/h) made me weep! Miscegenist Sabishii has the same DNA as Adaptation, as both books share the same themes and struggles in regards to the Asian male protagonist/hero. Its a story about Tony, an short (5'9) Asian America male, who grows up in a predominately African American, middle class Neighborhood. He loves black culture and women and falls in love with Nikki ( a new hire/subordinate with his company).
I recommend Miscegenist Sabishii and I would give it 4.5 stars. The format makes the story some what redundant at times because an event is told from the perspective of both Toi and Nikki. You can definitely tell that the book is a collection of short stories, a fact which Pace divulges in the book's forward.
Tony Yakamoto, being first generation Japanese American, the only child of immigrant parents, was raised in a predominately inner city area and school. He grew up liking women that did not look like him. When Nikita Mason first came to work under his supervision, he knew that she was the one. The only problem would be his mother Kayo who was totally a traditional Japanese .other who desired her only son to marry a nice Asian girl to give her grandbabies. She wanted grandbabies, so much that she routinely invited Asian woman to dinner for Tony to meet. Tony finally got the courage to introduce the woman he loved I his parents. Their meeting shocked Nikki as Mrs. Y gave Nikki a bit of news that upset the apple cart for all of them
Tony, adjusting to the news with his mother's encouragement, realized he likes her Nikki and did not want to live without her. They worked together through their difficulties and Kayo Yakamoto got her wish.
Worst book by PP. I didn't like how unrealistic most of the conflict is, and the Asian mother who can speak perfect English but hides it in front of her husband and son, wtf? I skipped through most of the book because of unnecessary conflict or just creating conflict but saving your characters from dealing with it by adding a happy and conveniently easy solution. I stopped reading because she got pregnant with his baby and I just couldn't get my brain cells to help me read through the whole book.
I love her other IR romances but this was just a let down, more offensive than readily dealing with extraordinary romances.
Pepper Pace does it again! This is about the 4 or 5th book I've read by her, and she rarely disappoints.
Toi,Tony, is a Japanese American who was raised in a primarily Black neighborhood. Consequently, he feels more black than Asian. He's very much attracted to black women, although his parents are pressuring him to marry a nice Asian woman. He meets Nikki at work, and falls hard. His dilemma is now how to break it to his parents that Nikki is the girl of his future.
I liked this because at first, it seemed like everyone would be against these two as a couple. But then we see how much support they really have. I love Tony's parents!
Definitely not my favorite Pace story but still sweet nonetheless and I really needed the break from the ultra-dark books I've been reading recently. The writing style is very rudimentary and I can easily see this book is from Pace's early career (she has since grown). The story is very light and the couple barely has any issues despite being an interracial couple- I don't think it would be this easy irl. In the end, everything is wrapped up in a pretty bow and our couple goes off to live a perfect life free of any trouble. I wish this story tackled the issues an interracial couple could face more seriously, but in the end, this is still a cute short book.
Out of ALL the classic novels PP has written—this has got to be the worst one yet! I am just going to convince myself that someone else wrote this book—this cannot be the work of PP—no way...the writing felt juvenile—and the story felt underdeveloped! ISSA No for me...S/O to her classics like Beast and Juicy! Now those are 5 star reads! Sorry PP—I couldn’t let this one slide!
Excellent book. A few grammatical errors but it didn't spoil my enjoyment too much. This is why I gave it four stars. It was well written and flowed beautifully. I couldn't predict the last meeting between Dean and Tony. Very mature of Dean to relinquish parental rights if baby turned out to be his. Another success for Miss Pace
I was not ready for the twist in the book. I started thinking I purchased a short story because things were going so smoothly. I checked my progress twice and thought maybe it would end soon and I should read a few previews to upcoming stories. And then bam, the twist that defined unconditional love.
I gave this book 5 stars because it was far more an interesting read than i had anticipated.
The amazing mix of Japanese and Africa American was what peeked my curiosity to read, not to mention the realness of the characters and their situations made me love it even more.
I'm not sure why I resisted reading this title for so long. I kept skipping over it for other works by this author. Big mistake. I could hardly put this book down. And when the ending came, I smiled, then grinned and laughed out loud.
I have read and re-read this book for the last few years and find it such a good book every time! I loved both Tony and Nikki's characters! Plenty of angst, but a great ending! Thank you Ms. Pace for a great book!
I've had this book in my library for over a year and just decided to read it. One thing about Pepper Pace that I like is that she writes about unconventional couples . It was a nice story.
Another excellent read from this author. I found it a little slow in the beginning, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Lovely characters and as you would expect great storytelling. I recommend.
