The members of the Hook and Needle Club have made many exciting and adventurous road trips together through the years, but the opportunity to travel to Texas for a needlecraft convention is more than Annie Dawson and her friends can pass up.
For Annie, the trip not only takes her back to her old stomping grounds in the Lone Star State, she also will take part of her grandmother, Betsy Holden, with her back to Texas. Betsy is being honored at the convention for her groundbreaking work as a needlecrafter.
Everything is going swimmingly until a death in Betsy's exhibit throws a pall on the road trip, and doubly so when Annie and her friends end up on the short list of suspects. Annie is drawn into the unseemly incident, and she lends her considerable talent of solving riddles to the handsome police detective assigned to the case.
Will the unlikely sleuths help nab a killer, or will they end up caught in the middle with no way to get out? Join Annie, Mary Beth, Kate and Stella as they deal with death in Texas on this adventurous road trip!
Book #17 has been read. What a great book! This time the mystery was not out of Annie's Attic, but happened after a road trip from Stony Point, Maine to Fort Worth, TX. I love that the author veered away from the usual ways that mysteries were revealed. I also was happy to see participation solving the mystery by the older woman in the Hook and Needle Club. And, finally I really enjoyed seeing a new romance blossom with one of the other members of the group. Annie is continually helping others - she learned this from her grandmother, Betsy Holden.
Annie goes back to Texas. Annie is met with a surprise when she goes to A Stitch in Time where the Hook and Needle Club meet. The store owner, Mary Beth, has arranged to take some of the ladies work, plus some ladies to a meeting of several guilds. The convention will be in Fort Worth. Mary Beth thinks the ladies need to show their designs and pieces and see what others have done. Annie Dawson's grandmother will be honored and remembered. She was an artist in needlepoint. The prices of her needlepoint has gone up,is very expensive and popular. Many love Elizabeth Holden's work, many would steal to own it. Betsy was a good hearted women, loved by all. Annie's daughter and her family possibly could drive to Fort Worth. LeeAnn lives in Texas.
Not all the ladies will be going, only four. Annie, of course. Mary Beth will drive her SUB, the others take turns driving. Kate, who works in A Stitch in Time, is shy. Kate is an amazing designer, does beautiful and original work. Mary Beth, plus all the others, feel she does not think her work is all that good. The fourth going to Texas is Stella, the oldest, very proper who does not care for the flippant ways of younger people.
So goes the trip. At a hotel someone tries to break into the SUB, but is thwarted. Who could it be? The group meets several suspicious folks as they go along on their journey.
The ladies meet so many people interested in needlecrafts and different kind of fabrics, different ways of using these fabrics. And all are beautiful and artistic. There are different prizes given for different designs. The convention was well attended.
Not all went well. There were others who tried to steal. Betsy's beautiful needlepoints needed to be protected. A large bag was knocked from Annie's hands, some crocheted baby blankets to be given to missionary families.
The book is a sweet story of sweet ladies, especially Betsy Price, who well deserved to be honored. Lovely book as are the Annie books. And what a road trip.
I love this series! This was another great read for me. Annie is off to Texas to a convention and the road trip is with her Maine friends. She has the chance to visit with family and her Texas friends while solving a murder. This book is what life should be like-faith, family, and friends. Creating new memories where you are in your life and cherishing those of the past. I never pictured myself loving this type of story but I do!
I really enjoyed this one- it was just a little bit different than the other books in the series that I've read so far because it did not involve a mystery that was in Annie's attic (at least not directly, it was relate to the portrait found in the very first book in an inadvertent way though). I liked seeing the characters on the road and in Texas for a change of pace.
Again, another very pleasant read. I am enjoying getting to know different aspects of the characters in this series as developed by the different authors. Initially, I wondered how the series would fare with different authors writing each book, but I have found each one engaging and fresh. Perhaps that is why. And the character continuity has been amazingly well done! Great work.
A quaint, quick read populated by endearing and entertaining characters. Love the friendships of the women from Stony Point and the mysteries they are compelled to solve. A delightful "crafty" tale!
Quick, easy read. A club of crocheted has a way of mystery finding them. This time at a convention of like souls there is a death before the convention even starts.

A friend in my book club gave me this sweet little book during a book swap. I had never heard of Annie’s Attic Mysteries before, but apparently there are quite a few of these. They are about a group of crochet/knitters in New England who solve mysteries, just like a grown up Nancy Drew. In this book the group takes a road trip to a needlework convention in Texas and help solve a murder mystery. This was a fun book, very quick read and had some very nice characters that I would love to be friends with. 3.5 stars
How much fun & sleuthing can the members of the Hook & Needle Club have going to Texas for a craft conference? Tons of fun & mystery combined! The conference will culminate with Annie Dawson's Gram (Betsy Holden) being honored for her embroidery originals & Annie will be the keynote speaker. I thought it was a great and challenging adventure for them all.
Another great story from Annie's Attic. They are all good in their own way, with the mysteries and with the development of the characters. So many authors and so many books, but they fit together really well. Now to the next one---- 30 in all! There are other Annie's stories, so I won't go through withdrawals yet!
Annie, Kate, Mary Beth and Stella drive to Texas for a convention on needlecrafts that will honor Betsy Holden's work. But there are mysteries lurking--a strange man that comes to Maine before they leave and a murder that happens on their first day at the convention. What is going on?
Another great book in this series. I had been waiting to read it and read it in one afternoon. With only one quick nap thrown in after work. Part of the way Annie figured out a clue was very weird and I didn't see how she figured it out but all in all it was a good story.
