Molly Swanton and Carla Peltonen were born in in Aspen, Colorado, U.S.A. on January 22 and September 12. In the late 60s, both newly returned from bumming around the world, they met in Aspen in the Red Onion, an Old West saloon. They were both new brides, wet behind the ears. It was several years later that they dreamed up Lynn Erickson, the pseudonym a combination of their husbands' names. They had read every romance put out in the early 70s and started saying, "We can do better than this." Well, they couldn't, but what the heck? The wrote two fat novels before we chanced onto an agent and made a sale. His first words to them: "The manuscript is flawed, but..."
They published their first novel as Lynn Erickson in 1980. Their early books were historical romances, full of blood and guts and murder, then they turned to contemporary women's suspense. "We've set almost all of our books in Colorado, especially in Aspen, a town where the truth is usually stranger than fiction. Aspen is a character in our books, not just a setting. We love to drop inside jokes about the quirks and fancies of our hometown. The scenery truly is glorious, the mountains magnificent, the skiing and hiking and fishing and horseback riding legendary. We cover the arts, too - the world-renowned music festival, the shops full of museum-quality paintings and sculptures. Southwestern art is big, of course: paintings and pottery and Navajo rugs."
A wonderful book. The love triangle tension is enough to keep you reading and wanting more! The author does a wonderful job of ending each chapter with cliff hangers so you want more
I gave this book 3 stars because I was honestly disappointed by the ending.
I started this book about a year ago, and I don't know if it was my headspace or my anxiousness while reading the book, but I could not get through it. I would get to about halfway where Ellie was with both Michael and Finn, and I could not bring myself to finish the book.
Fast forward a year, and I finally completed the book. I am glad that I did, but like I said, I'm frustrated with the ending. Ellie kind of irritated me at times when she was so ready to play a dangerous game. Sure I guess she wanted to take matters into her own hands after the law failed her family but idk, maybe involving myself with a possible serial killer that I am almost positive is one of the guys I'm seeing is a little much. At the end of the story, right after Ellie and Finn went to Aspen, I'll be honest I felt whiplash by the sudden change. Michael is driving to Finns to charge him and interrogate him on Ellies murder. I wish we as readers would have been let in on this little secret because the whole time, we knew what was going on. Maybe Lynn Erickson thought it would be a shock to the readers that Finn finally did it and killed Ellie, but I really wasn't sure that was how it was going to end. I had a feeling that she really didn't die, but that led me to be a little skeptical about how they brought Finn in and practically made him confess to a murder that never even occurred?!
Overall, this book was a fun read after I finally finished it. Definitely recommend if you like a good romantic thriller. Little spice, nothing crazy so either don't get your hopes up or you can rest assured you won't be confronted with a spicy scene ;)

Decently enjoyable, but oh so predictable. The reader is told who the killer is before reaching p.100, so there is nothing new to learn from there - no mystery, no surprises. This made the book seem a little too long for me, and it feels a bit frustrating and pointless reading all the way to the end when you KNOW who the killer is. It was okay, but really just lacked that extra bit of spice that makes me thoroughly enjoy and appreciate a book. I'd call this romantic suspense, though mild on the romance (yay) and mild on the suspense (boo).
Anyway, I'm not in the mood to write reviews. But I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read Thrillers, Suspense. Because I really felt thrilled over everything. It was adventurous, like what Michael Callas said, DANGEROUS. It was great. Really. Have to finish right away because I ave to give it back tomorrow to the librarian. Sigh. Just read this one, 'kay?
Here is a mystery that will grab you until the very end ... whether you like books with sex in the plot or not. I may have to check out some other bookd by Lynn Erickson and see if they are all this good.
I read this book years ago and enjoyed it. I've been trying to remember what it was for years, so I was excited to read it again when I found it again (ppl on Goodreads are the best!) There were aspects that I still enjoyed, but overall, was not as into the story as before- a bit too many of the same descriptors (seriously, how many times do we have to be told she shops in thrift stores...), too much random detail, and too much that felt way outside the realm of plausible- particularly in all the spoiler-y parts. I didn't buy a lot of the main characters emotions this time around either. There just wasn't enough build up, and she was way too... Awkward? For the way much of the story played out. Even with all that, I did still enjoy the novel- I read it in one sitting, and am glad I found it again
