The story got more interesting, with the background stories getting revealed gradually.

This manga is getting me so emotional, in both good and bad ways.

There are examples of how your birth family could be so horrible, and yet you could find that "family" in someone like your childhood friend.

I'm sensing some drama heading their way, but I'm enjoying it more with each volume!

House of the Sun continues to be a really compelling look at loneliness. I loved how Mao handled her father, even though I think his character still needs some improvement, cause right now I wanna punch him in his fucking face.

On the bright side, the bond between Mao and Hiro is definitely growing stronger. It's a relief that she'll be eighteen by the end of the series, making the age gap feel less awkward. In any case, their relationship is clearly more about being there for each other. The emotions and overall feeling of the series are something I truly appreciate.

While I am enjoying this age-gap romance, I do have conflicting feelings about it. I feel like the cohabitating aspect of the story makes it easy for feelings to enter the mix. There is currently still an innocence between these two, but I wonder how that is going to go. With the brother coming home, we will see how things turn out.

It’s hard to explain just what I like about this book, but it gets a lot right all at once. Just a solid, solid series. The drama and comedy balance is pretty much perfect. Mao’s dad needs to be hit with a chair though.

[Recenzja tomów 1-5] 🇵🇱/🇬🇧 [PL-ENG]

❗TW: śmierć rodziców, trudne relacje z rodzicami i rodzeństwem

❗ TW: death of parents, difficult relationships with parents and siblings

🇬🇧 ★ This is one of many mangas about ordinary life, so you know what to expect. There are two main characters who have known each other since they were children. Hiro lost his parents and has practically no contact with his siblings, Mao can't get along with his parents, so they live together.

★ As you can see from my ratings, all the volumes are of the same level, although I liked volume 1 the most because of the "backstage" of the characters' lives. There are no unpredictable plot twists (but there are some predictable ones). The story focuses on trying to reconnect with siblings (Hiro) and reconcile with parents (Mao). As in every romance, there has to be a romance, so there is... and there are even a few. Although it's nothing special, I really enjoyed reading these volumes and will be reading the next one.

I'm still not in love with this series, but I'm liking it more & more as it goes on. I appreciate that Hiro is trying to help Miyo reunite with her family, and that the weight is clearly on Miyo's father as just *not getting it* -- not getting the responsibility a parent has to a child, not realising that the onus is on him to insist on their relationship. I appreciate that Hiro has impulses of affection towards Miyo but is being very careful of them, since he knows he's standing in about five different sets of shoes at once -- he's a childhood friend, and a parent-figure, and an older sibling, and also the person she is literally dependent upon, and he is trying to be nurturing towards her without crossing any lines. And I *love* that she recognises that her crush on him is probably a mix of a lot of different things, and isn't sure if she should force the issue and tell him how she feels, or if she should wait it out and see what happens with it. PLUS in addition to all of that, living with Hiro seems to be increasing the scope of her world, as she connects more deeply with her best friend and makes friends with the boy her own age who has a crush on her. I'm curious to see how Daiki (who is her age!) showing up changes everything, and I am really, really hoping that the mangaka can pull this story off -- if it must end in an age gap romance, please let's do it responsibly and without pedophilia, OK?

At first, I find the illustrations really weird and I thought I'm not going to like this story. But here I am, writing this review. So it must be really good ha.

Well, it is! I love that it wasn't just your cheesy romance story but it also has some depth into it. I love that it was also about family and you know me, I love family stories. So yep, I shed a tear or two while reading this whole series and laugh as well.

I'm not sure how to end this review with a bang you I can be able to convince you to try this out, but it was really good. Promise!

I almost gave up on this manga after the first volume, but I decided to stick to my rule of always giving a manga a fair chance by reading the first three volumes, and boy, am I glad I did! The third volume definitely won me over and I can't wait to get into the fourth one. I feel like the author really found their footing and the storyline is so fluent now. A lot happened in the third volume, but it all made sense and didn't feel abrupt or rushed at all. So many twists and turns and development. On to volume four, I'm so excited!

Mao’s family is awful. For real how can they treat her like that. You are the parent. Hiro is developing a crush on her , so yes Hiro is t would be WIERD!! His brother is right. But still really enjoying them being together as friends. Him not hiding her cause no one daughter her life skills. He is upset with her dad but where is her MOM?!?!

I nominate Mao's dad for the ever-increasing list of Terrible Parents in Manga. Way to blame your daughter for your own issues, jerk.

The drama. Also I'm glad that they acknowledge the age-gap is a little weird. It's not as bad as some, but it's still not the best.
