Bound by Night by Larissa Ione
1st book in the Moonbound Clan Vampires. Paranormal romance.
The vampire slave rebellion years ago impacted Nicole’s life in so many ways. She’s now working in the science lab at her family’s research facilities, unaware of the atrocities happening beyond her lab. When Riker and crew from the Moonbound Clan kidnap Nicole, she learns more about the reality of vampires than her years of studying as a physiologist.
Nicole is smart and courageous. When the harsh conditions arise, she finds a solution. She has bad memories of Riker but that won’t stop her from helping him. Or from helping the rest of the vampires.
Riker has a difficult path to follow after the death of his mate. Though it’s been years, he can’t forget everything that was taken away from him.
For the romance, It took Riker too long to reconcile the past and his hate. I really liked the positivity of Nicole and found many of the secondary characters of more interest than the hero.
The epilogue sets up the next book in the series.

This is my first book by Larissa Ione and I have to admit that I'm slightly disappointed. I'm rating it with 3 stars because I'm not sure how I am feeling about it.
The first 50 maybe 60% was amazing.
However the rest of the book bored me to tears.
The story : The author takes us to a world where humans captive vampires and make them slaves to serve their own needs.A few years ago things got out of control and vampires rebelled against their masters.Nicole,our heroine, was young when the rebellion happened but she experienced a lot of death that night.She got scarred to her soul by watching her family die.Vampires werent always the bad guys.Nicole's nanny was a good one who cared about her but apparently she didnt care about her own life.
Riker , was a part of the rebellious vampires who destroyed Nicole's family.Years later he bumps into her again but now he needs her help.Nicole's brother has captured a vampire who is very important to the clan since she can breed easily , which is extremely rare.So Riker kidnaps her and demands an exchange but Nicole's brother is an ingenious bastard who is obsessed with his illegal and inhuman company so he denies to give the vampire back .
Nicole's hate towards vampires is way too obvious but Riker has something that draws her attention ( the reader's too). Both of them will try to get that vampire back even if that means that they have to sacrifice themselves.
So far , so good.
After that I didnt like it.I started skipping pages like crazy because I found it boring...
I know that the author should solve the clans' problems but it didnt catch my attention.And the ending?
Someone didnt get it at aaaaall..... *looks around*
Overall , the book was mediocre. It could have been better and I would have put it in my favorite self if it had continued like the first half of the story. It's a sexy read and the whole setting may captivate you.I am gratefull because the heroine wasnt stupid or very annoying but I think that Riker was sometimes being a drama queen.Definitely not an amazing book but I am curious to read the second one . I think it's about Hunter but my love is Myne.He has an interesting story to tell.

This is my first book from Larissa.I've heard great things about her other series and when I saw that she was coming out with a new series about vampires I was definitely interested in starting it.I really enjoyed it!!There are so many stories that are mixed in, with this that you aren't ever really bored.
This was a new take on vampires for me. So much was different from your usual vampire books!It kept the story very interesting for me.
In this book the humans use vampires as slaves.
The remaining free vampires are organized in clans...
Vampires have to fight to survive against the humans....
Nicole when she was little,she witnessed her family murdered by slave vampires..the same day her vampire nanny Terese was killed by her mate a vampire named Riker...Nicole was assaulted by her family's cook, another vampire slave..She left the US and went to live with family overseas.
Twenty years later she is back and she work in her family's main company which specialized in vampire research and slavery,Daedalus.
Riker kidnapped Nicole, because he needs her help to free a vampire from her company..But be with Riker she discovers secrets from her company..and she has different opinion for the vampires..
Also she finds herself attracted to Riker..
The romance was super hot, the tension was well built!I like the heartache they put each other through before they realized it was love. They both had trouble letting go of the past..
I like Riker from the beginning!!He is a sexy vampire!!!
I also found myself intrigued by other characters in the story too..Hunter and Myne!

A new series by Larissa Ione?
But I still want Demonica/Lords of Deliverance book!
Ok, I will left the cute baby image above, because so many people love it! XD
Anyhoo, I just finish reading Bound by Night, read it while I came home from Jakarta to my home sweet home by plane. Usually, it's rare for me to finish a book in one sitting, let alone just for hours. But I finish this in 5 hours! An evidence that again Larissa Ione doesn't disappoint with her new installment and new take into vampire lore.
If you already familiar with Ms Ione's works, you will recognize her signature. Riker, ZOMG duuuuudeee, move on already!! He remind me so much of Shade and Ares, my less favorite Demonica/LoD heroes! His grumpiness, his jerk attitude, it's a miracle that Nicole still want him anyway!
I see that MoonBound Clan have so many similarities with Demonica. For the first, Riker, Hunter and Myne is resemblance of Seminus Brother. Riker, of course he like Shade, like I had mentioned before. Hunter is like Eidolon, his rule as leader, his charm, but surprisely, despite I really love Eidolon, I don't care so much about Hunter. Myne? Waaaaa... Wraith!!! I like Myne a lot, and I think Nicole better with Myne, lol!
The vampire world is unique, it is when vampire considered as mutant, and things that can be slaved. But there's also rebel vampire that regroup into some clan. The myth behind vampire creation is different than usual, for she use Native American lore. What make this series, again so much alike Demonica, is how Ms Ione again show us how bad prejudice toward someone or people that different than us. I think this message will never get old and I totally agree with Ms Ione's insight.
The sex is wow, wow, wow steamy like usual. Again, you will not be disappointed. I want to know more about Moonbounc Clan beside Riker, Hunter, and Myne, like Baddon, the mad scientist Grant, Katina, et all. The next book is about Hunter, and his mate, I don't want to spoil you anyway, lol :D. Either way, Bound by Night again show Ms Ione can wield a seductive, dark and fascinating story.

Riker and Nicole
A strange world where vampires are the good guys and the slaves; and humans are the bad guys and the owners.
Nicole has to overcome her hatred and fear for vampires and especially for Riker, her murdered nanny's mate.
Riker has to overcome his hatred and suspicions for humans and especially Nicole, the owner of the company that is specialised in the creation of vampires slaves.
If Riker had stopped a bit sooner mourning for his dead mate, I would have given 5 stars.
I absolutely love Larissa Ione's writing style and most of the times I really admire the originality of her ideas.
This is the start of a very interesting series and I am diving in straight away in book two.

Every dentist's nightmare.
Every so often, I'll come across books which strike me as a suitable introduction to a genre. Bound by Night is one of these books. Consider Night a more polished version of an earlier work from this very author, such as the Demonica series, or even a less-cheesy version of the Midnight Breed series.
I was semi surprised that there were no magical spermies present, since this author tends to favor bizarre sexing. In fact, these vampires seemed downright...well, human. Even with the super strengths and a few magical tricks pulled from their hats, the over-the-top sense of abilities (and I'm definitely not knocking the magical sperm!) wasn't as much in the forefront as it had been with previous Ione's books I'd read.
A new day, a new creature, perhaps?

A year ago, I would have rated Bound by Night 4 stars. I blame my middle-of-the-road rating strictly on my over-saturation of pnr and uf in general, and not with any writing flaw (okay, so there were still some cheesy word standards such as "nub, core, mewls, juices, and folds").
What this means for light or new pnr readers : Go ahead, jump on in. The water's fine. This isn't a new take on vampires (are there even any of those left?), but it's an entertaining read full of snark, steam, and action. I was intrigued by the power balance between vampires and humans in this book. Vampires being enslaved? Who knew it was possible? If you haven't been drowning in the paranormal recently, you'll probably find this an extremely readable action-based romance.
What this means for me : I'll probably read book 2 at some point. Maybe not with the same enthusiastic fervency which I would have read a Fever, BDB or Night Huntress book a couple of years ago, but I liked what I read enough to continue on.
Overall, I have no complaints. Good enough works for me.

Welcome to Larissa Ione's latest vampire series! An interesting story of slavery, loyalty, revenge and a hot 'n sexy romance.
Nicole is a human woman and New-found CEO of Daedalus Corp. She inherited the company from her parents who were massacred in a vampire rebellion attack when she was a young girl. Her illegitimate half-brother, Chuck, has been ruining it in her place until she was ready to take the reins. But what she thinks she is getting may be more than she expected.
Daedalus Corp is a scientific companies working on vampires. TO create vaccines, to understand them, breed them and worse... Nicole only knows some of what the company is. But when a few vampires, Ryker and Myne, kidnap her and demand she release a certain vampire, her rose colored glasses are finally removed...
Now I am not sure if this book is a futuristic book or just an alternate timeline but regardless, in this reality most vampires are slaves to humans. Often collared, De-fanged and used however humans see fit. Yet there are still free vampires out there who are fighting back.
Nicole grew up thinking as vampires are the enemy and Ryker thought the same of humans. Both share a past with Terese who was Nicole's nanny and Ryker's mate. Nicole is about the learn how much more there was to her death, her families company and vampires in general. And Ryker needs to learn that not all humans are that bad.
While I liked all the characters, Myne is probably one I wish we had gotten to know better and hope to learn more in future books. Bastien has me very curious about with his ability and we even had a mad scientist in this book with an affinity for kool-aid!
Nicole sort of annoyed me at times. While I like how she presents herself and is strong in many ways, she is also lived a naive life. I kept wondering why she never question the attack, or how she thought vampire experimentation is okay. She'll confront a wrong if shoved in her face but otherwise seemed to have her own interests at the forefront of life. She never questioned the order of vampire exterminations that her company obeyed, in which her signature was on the order. I mean, if you didn't sign it, WHO DID? I would have thought she would have realized things were wrong and need her attention. But it took a kidnapping to get her to wake up. Sad
Ryker I loved. Ryker with a good heart but a few too many chips on his shoulder. He loves sticking his foot in his mouth on areas that quickly come to bite him in the butt all too often.
I was not a big fan of the Indian backround for the creation of vampires. and The end did nothing to fix that. While I am curious enough to continue the ending alone almost cost this 1/2 a star. It just doesn't seem necessary and it's overkill. I will leave it at that.
So overall enjoyable. Some very steamy, almost rough sex scenes so this is very much adults only. Bit of intrigue and science blended in. The characters are well done and each unique. The slavery aspect is new but I wish I knew a bit more of what is going on there.

3 stars...It's okay.
Eighty years ago, the discovery of vampires led to world—wide panic. The human population viewed them as a lesser and savage species. Out of fear and ignorance, they reacted by enslaving them.
Vampires were a specialty item within Daedalus Corporation’s medical and scientific research teams, along with providing practical services. Nicole Martin recently inherited the position of CEO of Daedalus Corporation. The company’s medical and scientific research teams are devoted to vampire study and have made advancement, but Seattle is the last place Nicole wants to be. Gruesome childhood memories of an uprising that occurred within her family’s compound trigger her fear.
Riker, a ferocious fighter for the MoonBound Clan, was once betrayed by the people he trusted. The enslavement and death of his mate compounded his hatred for humans, especially the Martin Family, who had owned his mate. The recent capture of a valued ShadowSpawn midwife under MoonBound’s protection requires immediate action. At last, Riker has an opportunity to exact his vengeance on the family who stole his mate.
The tension begins immediately in Bound by Night, the first book in Larissa Ione’s new paranormal series. The story opens with scenes of terror and carnage. Nicole Martin, the heroine, has a gripping introduction. Surprisingly, Riker seemed lackluster for a vampire hero. Two other vampires had a stronger presence, and I had to double-check the hero’s name for confirmation that Riker was supposed to be the one engaging my attention. He didn’t stand out as anyone particularly special other than suffering a loss, which conveniently led him to Nicole. Their attraction for one another was revealed every time they caught themselves having ‘unbidden’ or ‘crazy’ sexual thoughts about one another. Their fascination for one another was out-of-character for them due to their history and situation. Eventually, further scenes build upon their compatibility, but I still felt disenchanted.
Ms. Ione vampires have some unique qualities that will hopefully be expanded as the series progresses. The origin of vampires and the integration of the Native American culture was also a special touch. The feel and tone of this novel reminded me very much of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. Usually, Ms. Ione underscores the romance with erotic sensuality. Riker and Nicole do have their sexy times, yet their chemistry didn’t leap off the pages as the characters in the Demonica series had done. The emotional quality of the characters weren’t as dark either. They had a predicable quality.
Bound by Night can’t be compared to the Demonica or Lords of Deliverance series. It’s lighter. There are secondary characters who show promising attributes needed for an edgier paranormal romance. Overall, this book was an easy read with promising story elements.

The tension begins immediately in Bound by Night, the first book in Larissa Ione’s new paranormal series. The story opens with scenes of terror and carnage. Nicole Martin, the heroine, has a gripping introduction. Surprisingly, Riker seemed lackluster for a vampire hero. Two other vampires had a stronger presence, and I had to double-check the hero’s name for confirmation that Riker was supposed to be the one engaging my attention. He didn’t stand out as anyone particularly special other than suffering a loss, which conveniently led him to Nicole. Their attraction for one another was revealed every time they caught themselves having ‘unbidden’ or ‘crazy’ sexual thoughts about one another. Their fascination for one another was out-of-character for them due to their history and situation. Eventually, further scenes build upon their compatibility, but I still felt disenchanted.
Ms. Ione vampires have some unique qualities that will hopefully be expanded as the series progresses. The origin of vampires and the integration of the Native American culture was also a special touch. The feel and tone of this novel reminded me very much of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. Usually, Ms. Ione underscores the romance with erotic sensuality. Riker and Nicole do have their sexy times, yet their chemistry didn’t leap off the pages as the characters in the Demonica series had done. The emotional quality of the characters weren’t as dark either. They had a predicable quality.
Bound by Night can’t be compared to the Demonica or Lords of Deliverance series. It’s lighter. There are secondary characters who show promising attributes needed for an edgier paranormal romance. Overall, this book was an easy read with promising story elements.

Years ago, the discovery of vampires led to panic and humans repeating the stupidity and cruelty of their forebearers – they positioned vampires as savages/lesser beings, only useful as slaves. I know vampires the slaves of humans, humans who are weaker than them! For me this was too fanciful – I know I’m saying this as I refer to vampires, but come on, prior to humans having the technology to kill them quickly etc. how on earth would they enslave them? My issue is that the answer to this question is never truly revealed in this book, and thus I couldn’t allow myself to let reality fall and truly believe in the world the author had created.
The main characters are human Nicole Martin, the child of famous/wealthy slavers who were killed when their vampires revolted, and free vampire Riker, who is a member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan. Nicole, her family and Riker have a tangled history marked with bloodshed, pain, and loss. Thus, their initial meeting in the present is anything but rainbows and sunshine.
Nicole may have inherited being CEO of Daedalus Corporation but there are dark and cruel actions being undertaken that she is wholly unaware of. As a character she was likeable, although I hated the fact that initially she didn’t see anything wrong with vampires being slaves – I know it’s the world she was born into, but still. Plus, her obliviousness to the darker components of her company at the start annoyed me (her own actions when it came to vampires are also questionable even if they are not highlighted profoundly).

I did find myself getting a little frustrated with Riker, he wanted Nicole, but still held her at arm’s length, I could understand why he felt guilt at being with someone else - The author did well in depicting the emotional conflict Riker felt, I just wish his awareness of his own feelings didn’t come so late in the book.
There were some nice moments in this, such as the interactions between Nicole and Bastien – he had me smiling. Also, there were some interesting side stories within this book, that have me interested to see what will happen with characters like Hunter.

Overall, I can say that I was excited to see this in my local library, as it sounded good, but the world the author has created did not weave an intricate spell that transported me away from reality. It was a nice light read in some ways, but I didn’t find myself potently absorbed by the characters and their interactions. The first half of the book in particular was very easy to put down. However, the last few chapters really surprised me, and I found myself leaning in wanting to know how things would go, and it’s these last few chapters which mean I will be giving book 2 a try.

I have been a HUGE Larissa Ione fan ever since I read the very first Demonica book, Pleasure Unbound. With her unique and rich world building, amazing characters, and incredibly steamy love scenes, she has quickly become one of my favorite PNR authors.
So when I saw that she plans on coming out with a new series, I didn't even think before adding it to my auto-buy list. Now that I've read it, I'm at a little bit of a loss as to how to rate it. For those that have never read a book by Larissa Ione, I would not suggest starting with this one. I feel like her previous books were much stronger than this one, and you might get the wrong impression of this very talented author.
Bound by Night offers a very unique and different take on your typical vampire fiction. In this world humans have captured vampires for slaves. The vampires go through "reconditioning" and some even have their fangs removed. The non-captured, rebel vampires live in clans.
Nicole Martin's family's company is at the top of this particular hierarchy. Her farther owns the company that sells vampires. Until the day where everything in Nicole's world changes when she is only 8 years old, her family is killed by the very vampires that have served them, and Nicole herself is brutally attacked and barely survives. Now Nicole lives in Paris, and devotes her life for finding a vaccinne against vampirism. She hates vampires with a passion, and her dreams are still haunted by a particular vampire that she has every reason to hate, yet still feels undeniable attraction to.
Riker is a member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clad. Despising all humans, Riker is haunted by nightmares of his own past. When a mission to rescue a captured vampire brings him face to face with the woman whose family he holds responsible for taking everything he loved, all he wants in revenge.
The book had a bit of a slow start for me. I didn't really connect with it until past the 50% mark. I really liked Nicole's character, and Riker was a tortured soul. It took him quite a bit of time to get over his particular biases, where Nicole realized hers pretty early on.
I also really enjoyed the secondary characters. Now is it just me or did Myne also remind anyone else of Wrath from the Demonica series? I loved that! I can't wait for his book.
I enjoyed the world building and the unique take on vampire lore in this. There is one thing that Ione knows how to do well, and that is giving us rich world building.
Although I did not find this to be as strong as her previous books, this was a good start to what I think will be a great series.
I'm also very intrigued by the sneak peak we get into Hunter's book. I can already tell I'm going to enjoy his book. The set up sounds interesting, and I already love the heroine.

My first book by Larissa Ione and I have to say, I like her writing style. It was sexy and interesting with a good amount of action. However, I have some major issues with this book that dropped my rating way down.
Most of my criticisms stem from the world that Larissa Ione created. Her vampires are basically superior to humans in every way. They can go out in sunlight, see perfectly in the dark, heal rapidly, can eat food and drink blood, live longer, have super-human speed, can sense other's emotions, and are much stronger than humans. While this pretty standard vampire stuff, in the "Bound by Night" world, vampires are treated as slaves to humans. They are captured and forced to work as nannies or personal servants, do menial labor, and are treated as little better than animals (sound familiar?? ::cough cough American history cough cough::). What I want to know is HOW THE HECK humans managed this one?? If vampires are so much superior in every way, how the heck does this society function? How did these vampires become slaves in the first place? They make it look like child's play to kill humans so it makes no sense at all that they would be used as slaves and such. The basic premise was stupid and it bothered me for the entire book. Give the vampires so freaking critical weaknesses if you want to make them out to be slave-able.
In addition, the main character, Nicole, was supposed to be a vampire scientist studying and knowing everything about them. Yet she thought that they lived like animals when it is so very clear that they talk and have regular human thoughts and behaviors?? Come on. Also, other than the fangs, and the eye color of turned vampires, it seems like they look just like humans. And born vampires have regular eye colors. I would think it would be ridiculously easy for a vampire to masquerade as a human. How are they so easily told apart?
Sigh.
If I think about it, I come up with 1,000 world-building issues. I just have to block them out and focus on the hot vampire sex. Which was very nice. Admittedly, this is standard paranormal romance stuff. But I happen to like that stuff. The possessive glares, the mating urges, the crazy sex drives... those things don't bother me. I think that if the world of this series was better, I would really be excited about this series. I'm going to continue reading the next book for sure because the action and hotness kept me up until late at night. I hope the next book is even better.

I love Paranormal because it gives us amazing love stories mixed with magic and awesome powers along with beautiful worlds. I also have always loved how loyal the heroes are. Well this book broke that rule. This hero waited till over 80% to even admit he cared about the heroine as more than a sexual nature. I was really enjoying the first 40% thinking he'd start gradually warming up and wake up too. But he cruelly pushes her away to go betray their budding feelings with another woman.. which no he didn't finish but it didnt matter. The only reason I managed to finish this was I admit that Larissa Ione has a very intense way of creating action and crazy monents .. that also included some side plots that I was curious about. I do want to know how things go with Hunter but I already feel like I can't trust this author now.. I need heroes that don't betray or push the heroine away with cruel words. Ive read lots of books where it starts that way but he grows and evolves.. slowly.. not taking so damn long to make up his mind. I admired the heroine for at least making him suffer.. I do think he had some stuff that pushed him into the asshole he turned into but.. I just couldn't get past the scene with the other woman.. no matter who he had on his mind. You who will say that ohhh he wasn't thinking about the other woman.. he wanted the heroine but was too tortured to give in.. I want you to tell your signifcant other to go grind away on someone else but make sure they think about you.. how does that feel. Ok I feel like I wasted most of my day. Now the hunt for a hero that isn't afraid to commit or hot and cold. Some loyal and protective instincts and some kindness please.

This is a good book. Is it as good as her Demonica series? No, but then that's a very high bar indeed. I had some trouble at first, because in this series, vampires are hunted, defanged, gelded, enslaved, experimented on. Anyone who reads my books knows who and what my vampires are, so this was deeply disturbing to me on a psychological and emotional level. More than that, though, I had some trouble warming to the lead characters Nicole and Riker, especially as a couple. But soon enough I was engrossed in the story, fearing for the health and safety of the good guys and wishing ill on the bad guys. I did think it was pretty obvious who the one bad guy was and what his motivation was, no big reveal for me. But not all the bad guys are human. Some of the vamps are pretty evil,too. One can understand why they might be in the current context, what with human poachers and slavers, but one also suspects some of these guys would be evil even without the human motivation.
Any reservations aside, I'll still be buying the next book, because it's about Hunter, the born vampire and Chief of Moonbound, and I definitely want to read his story. Although, if he asked me, I could tell him which twin to take along. ;)

Nicole family had vampire slaves when she was a kid, and did not surprisenly not treat them well at all. One night they had enough and they revoltet, resulting in a massacre but Nicole survived. Riker was on of the vampires in the revolt and he lost his pregnant wife in the process of freedom. Twenty years later Nicole and Riker meets again and they realize they aren't as different as they first thought and romance insues. It was a decent paranormal story with some slight romance in it. Found it interesting but not amazing. Not eager to continue the series but not a bad book

There are zillions of vampire books out there but what interested me was the different take on these rather fascinating "creatures" we can't seem to get enough of.
A world where humans rule supreme and use vampires as slaves and for experiments. Wow....and what a terrible world it is for the vampires. Chained, abused,feared, tortured and on the brink of rebellion against their captors.
Dr Nicole Martin's parents were murdered by vampires when she was a small child. Now, an adult, she owns with her brother, the biggest company doing vampire testing. A company that the vampires are determined to destroy.
Riker, a turned vampire, whose mate was murdered by Nicole's family is determined to get his revenge by destroying Nicole and her brother.
We take a trip into the vampire world, where different groups are fighting, not only humans, but each other as well.
Filled with some bizarre and quirky characters, humor, betrayals and a lot more making it a totally fabulous read.
I can't wait for book #2. Geez...having to wait until Aug 2014 - seems such a long time ahead...but hey, I will definitely be reading more about this world.

I am a mad fan of Larissa Ione’s Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series, so when I discovered she was writing a series about vampires I was ridiculously excited. And she did not disappoint. Not linked to her previous books, this is a standalone series that has the same, unique ‘Larissa Ione’ feel to it, but with less ‘in your face’ action and more emotion. And I absolutely loved it!
Bound by Night gives us a unique twist on the vampire story, with vampires enslaved to humans and, with the exception of rebel clans living in the forests, strongly controlled by the ominous Daedelus Corporation.

Riker is rugged, gorgeous and all kinds of awesome. He blames humans, specifically Nicole’s family, for the death of his mate, and is cold, ruthless and angry – most of that directed at Nicole. But as the two of them are forced to spend time together, they feel a dangerous attraction that grows into a begrudging respect and an understanding of each other’s situations as they start to open up to each other.
And the more they get to know each other, the more they fall for each other, and the chemistry between them is sizzling! Seriously, Larissa Ione knows how to write a hot love scene, and I was fanning myself as these two finally caved in.
Yup, it is hot, hot, hot! But with Riker still holding on to his past, and Nicole still coming to terms with her new reality, there are a lot of barriers standing in their way, and I loved watching them battle it out only to be drawn back together, pulled apart and drawn back together again. It’s definitely not an easy road for them, but there is no denying the intensity and growing emotion between them. Their romance is realistic (given the unrealistic circumstances), and I loved watching them work to overcome their issues, uncover aspects of themselves that they didn’t know existed, and find their way to each other.
And while Riker comes to realise that Nicole is not to blame for the evil that humans have perpetuated on his race, Nicole’s exposure to Riker and the vampire clan gives her the opportunity to see things from the other side. And, using her knowledge of vampires to work with the clan, she is slowly accepted into their world and comes to truly understand the atrocities being carried out by Daedelus without her knowledge. And it is horrifying.
Add to that the daily struggle to exist, the discovery of dark family secrets, revenge, torture, an impending war with a neighbouring clan, and a couple of REALLY big surprises, and this book is a great ride. As usual, Ione doesn’t hold back on the brutality and violence of her world, but I felt that, while there is definitely action, it's not as prominent as her other books (not that this is a bad thing!). Instead, there is a stronger focus on the developing relationship between Nicole and Riker, and the interactions with the other clan members. This is a great bunch of characters, and the banter and dynamics between the group are really well written. With multiple POV we are never left wondering what somebody is thinking, and we get a little glimpse into the lives of other characters, seeing several more stories set up for future books.
And as events unfold, the drama intensifies, and the emotion is really strong. The supernatural element is not especially ‘super’, with vampires not being that different to humans and there is more mythology to be explained. The epilogue hints at what is to come, and I have no doubt that all of the key elements of the story will be continued on and explored more throughout the series.
Overall I thought this was a great intro to what is sure to be another fantastic series, and I can’t wait to read more.

What I Liked: Where do I start? The first scene of the book is a horrific one and it has you thinking? Do I really want to read on about these crazy vamps who murdered everyone and hurt children? But you’re so caught up in the action and want to know what happens to Nicole and her family and the escaped vamps that you just can’t put the book down! After that scene fast forward 20 years or so and you see Nicole grown up and kidnapped. That really got me hooked! I really wanted to see how Ms. Ione could make her fall in love with her kidnaper and not make it look like a bad portrayal of Stockholm syndrome. And boy, she so did!
The book is fast paced and the world is really interesting and terrifying. 100 years or so vamps came out of hiding and since people are known for their tolerance and acceptance a few years after that they are hunt down and enslaved. They are now used like house servants, research material and, IMO one of the most degrading things, anti-aging serums and in sex trade. To make matters worse Nicole is actually the CEO of one of the biggest companies that research and “train” vampires.
I would say more but then you wouldn’t be tempted to read it, and trust me: it’s a great book.
What I didn't like: The only thing that I didn’t love in the book was Riker’s stubbornness to live in the past. In my opinion, it went on for too much time.
Favorite character: Myne. He’s a heartbreaking character, but what I like most about him is that even though he was mistreated and a lot of bad stuff happened to him he can still feel empathy. Besides, he is hot :D
My least favorite character: Creepy leader from another vamp clan. He’s just ew! And he sure hasn’t heard of women’s right and how to treat all human beings with respect.
Favorite scene: When Nicole goes to him when he’s all tide up. I would say more but it’s a MAJOR spoiler, you just have to trust me on how good it is.
Would I recommend the book: No question! It has adrenalin filled moments, redemption and hope, humor and heartbreak, everything you would like in a book. Better yet, it’s the 1st in a new series that I know will have many on the edge of their seats.

AMAZE-BALLS! I loved this book. Larissa Ione writes kick-ass PNR and has great world building!
The first book of a series always has growing pains, you need to introduce the world, its rules, the characters for the book and for the future books but keeping all this in mind, the start of Larissa Ione's new book based in the Vampire world blew me away.
The premise was pretty interesting, a world where Vampires are the hunted and human beings enslaving them and the book begins with a revolt with the heroine an eight year old and the vampire servants turning against her family and attacking them. The hero is a vampire warrior and we are made aware of his hatred for humans especially the heroine's family since his mate was the heroine's nanny.
Now, the book is quintessential Larissa, full of sexual tension, conflict, love-hate and was full on awesome. Nicole the heroine came across a very insipid at first, she was dumb in my book not opening herself up to the reality around her but then she is kidnapped by the hero's clan and she really comes into her own then.
All in all I do not want to give away the plot and world much but will say I am looking forward to the next book badly.

Ione’s writing style has stayed largely the same with the familiar sarcastic quips and witty dialogue. The secondary characters provide a wonderful support to the main characters with several stepping up as possible leads in the next book of the series. I’m interested to see where Ione takes these characters next.

In this world, vampires are very real. So real, that once they were discovered,they were seen as a treat. So the step was to make them slaves and exploit them. Making experiments, dissect them...they're seen as beast,even lower than animals.
Nicole Martin in the CEO, of the company that made breakthroughs in their experiments with vampires and the way, they "train" them to be slaves. The company is still the main enslaver of vampires.
When she was 8 year's old, she survived a brutal attack, when vampires rebelled and murdered her family. Now she is set to find a vaccine against vampirism. She is still haunted by her attack and how her perception of vampires changed drastically since then.
Now she was kidnapped by the vampire that stars her nightmares, not the one that attacked her but the one that killed Terese, Riker.
Riker is a member of the MoonBound Clan, a clan of rogue vampires,trying to survive from humans and other clans. He was set to kidnap Nicole, to exchange her for an important vampire that was kidnapped by her company.
He didn't expected was at first feel so much vengeance for her family and then, feel an unexplained attraction to her.
What. The. Hell. Why in the world was he comparing the two? They were opposites. Human and vampire. Tall and petite. Evil slaver and innocent victim.
And Nicole feels it too...
He could just as easily kill her as protect her. Hurt her as kiss her.Bite her as caress her. Suddenly, the chilly cave felt a lot warmer.
Riker is making her see vampire through a whole new light. Everything she assumed as universal truths crumbled with what she sees in Riker and the clan.
And she is starting to see, humans, even the people she trusted the most, in also a whole new light.

Fast paced, intriguing, full of sexual tension, great characters and an overall great plot line.
It's a great start for a very promising series!
What did I loved?
*The whole, free vampires united in clans, like the "resistance" against the humans enslavers. It was refreshing to show, how the humans can be the bad guys in a PNR.
*The Characters!!
Nicole is a kick ass heroine! Although hunted by her memories, she questioned what she saw...not prolonging a whole lot of misunderstandings! And the way she changed her opinion and was set to behave according what was right, just showed how such a strong character she is!
And Riker? *sigh* The whole tormented and bad-ass hero? Love it!
I just wished it didn't took him so long to see past the grieve.
And the chemistry between this 2?
That's what I'm talking about!
Now I can't wait to read the next book!

Wow! Finally a vamp story that give us something different from the other PNR I've read. I always thought that vamp stories had been beyond exhausted. Here we have vampires as human slaves, hunted by evil humans and treated like lab rats. How much worst can it be? Larissa Ione build a world whereby humans are evil and vampires are victims to the human's greed of power and wealth.
Nicole Martin is a research scientist and the heir of Daedalus corporation (sounds familiar? Think, Daemon Black!) and had been raise by a loving vamp nanny, Teresa. Daedalus is the company that experiment on vampires and trained vampires to serve as slave for the humans. Her fear towards vamps had sealed when she saw Teresa being murdered by her own mate, Riker and Nicole subsequent being attacked by their family vamp chef.
Finally coming back to Daedalus to fulfill her destiny as an heir, she found out that the company had been operating unsanctioned experiment by her half-brother, Chuck. Nicole later got kidnap by a deadly vamp that is non-other than Riker, the man she feared most. Riker demanded her help to release a vampire that had been captured by Daedalus.
Riker is one if the best fighter of MoonBound Clan. He had extreme hatred towards humans and the Martin family in general for taking his mate away from him and subsequent lead to her death. He is having a hard time moving on since Teresa's passing. Now he had a mission to avoid a war between two vampire clans by saving a vampire from Daedalus by capturing Nicole and blackmailing her brother, Chuck.
Meeting Riker brings on a whole different experience to Nicole. She realize that she had been wrong about the vampires in general. They are not raging animals that needs to be subdue and treated as slave. She also see the ugly side of humanity that exploit the vampires for their own benefit. Meanwhile, Riker is also surprise to find out that Nicole is not an evil Martin set out to destroy his people.
Riker is this poor tortured soul that still riding the guilt of the death of his mate. She is his responsibility and he let her down and he can never forgive himself. I thought his history with Teresa is one sad story that make my heart ache for him. Despite his strong feelings for Nicole and knew that she is different from other humans, he still think he is betraying Teresa by canoodling with the enemies. I kinda want to smack him for taking such a long time to come around his senses, though.
I thought the world building was brilliant. Is a mixed of paranormal and science fiction element within a compelling plot. The vamp community is facing difficulty in their survival and Daedalus been creating new developments to fight against vamps. Nicole had been studying vampire physiology and instead of using her skill to exploit the vamp, now she decided to help them instead.
The ending was really touching and emotional. I had a thing for hero who is selfless and when Riker made the ultimate sacrifice for his clan, I just flat out love him. Well, Nicole is also not one damsel in distress and she came out with some brilliant moves towards the end. Love this two couple and honestly, I wish Book 2 still continue with their story, although I suspect is gonna be about Hunter, the MoonBound Clan leader.

This is probably one the BEST vampire books I've read in a long time. The story is completely new and that is so refreshing since a lot of vampire books seem so similar. This book was amazing, and I beyond loved it. Any one who enjoys paranormal romances needs to read this book right now!!! I eagerly wait for the next book!

I love Larissa Ione! Really, she is definitely in my top 3 best paranormal romance writers.
Wow! She has such a talent for romance, comedy and drama, that my mind is blown away all the time.
Bound By Night wasn't different. I loved everything, from the writing, to the plot and the characters.
The society Ione created was just fascinating.
In this world, the humans are fully aware of the existence of vampires and, not only that, but they also enslave and experiment on them, so that they can develop human medicine and other fields that will bring all sorts of advances to the human species.
Our heroine, Nicole Martin, comes from the Martin family, one of the most powerful families and great supporters of this system of enslavement.
When she was 8 years out, all the vampire slaves rose up and rebelled, her family was massacred and she was brutally attacked, nearly dying herself.
From that moment on, she devoted her life to finding a cure to vampirism, in an attempt to finally get some closure and bury the terrible memories from that night.
Enter Riker, a battle-scarred, hardened warrior from the vampire MoonBound Clan.
He is tormented by memories of his own. Twenty years ago, he tried to save Terese, his beloved pregnant mate, from the clutches of the Martin family, but she ended up dead.
Now, he lives entirely for revenge and to punish all those who hunt and enslave vampires.
When a female vampire from another clan is captured and Riker hears about Nicole's great comeback as the heir of the Martin family, he decides to capture her himself to get to other female.
Nicole was only a child back then, but she recognizes him as the mate of her dear Terese, the nanny who was more like a big sister to her, and the very same who passionately kissed and then killed her.
She should hate and fear him, yet she soon finds herself battling a growing searing attraction.
Riker is not indifferent to her either and he soon becomes enthralled with this hot-blooded, fascinating woman, but how can he feel what he is feeling when that means, not only betraying the vampire race, but also the memory of Terese
I gotta tell you, I was completely sucked into the relationship of these two. I knew from the start theirs was a story of everlasting, desperate love.
Nicole was such a fantastic female lead, that I don't know if I can explain how much I loved and admired her.
Even though she had been born in the midst of a terrible family, she was nothing like them. She never understood their despicable behavior toward vampires and even grew to love them, as was the case with Terese.
And even after the vicious attack she suffered, she didn't change.
Sure, she became frightened of vampires and lost a lot of the love she had for them, but I never felt like she started hating all vampire species for the sake of being vampires.
And most important of all, she didn't hate Riker just because he was a vampire.
But what really made me love her was the fact that, it came to a point when she stopped fighting it, admitted that she loved Riker and started fighting instead for him.
She didn't accept he didn't give all he had when they were together and fought like hell for that chance at true happiness. And she eventually succeeded.
You gotta love a woman who knows what she wants and fights for it!
Now, Riker, Riker, Riker! What can I say? This sexy ass piece of vampire ass tangled me up in knots.
He is just my type of guy. Battle-scarred, hardened, vicious, silent, brooding, yet loving, caring and terribly sweet.
I was constantly pissed with him, because you knew he knew Nicole was the one for him, but he kept getting excuses not to be with her, blaming her for something that wasn't her fault, which was Terese's enslavement, torture and death and refusing to let go of the past.
He refused to let go of Terese's memory and he made Nicole suffer a lot for it. It seemed he resented her for his own feelings and he kept punishing himself and Nicole for it.
And the fact he didn't want to let go of all barriers when he was with her, not even when they were making love? Damn exasperating!
I'm so glad he finally saw reason. He would have been a fool if he had let Nicole go.
But it weren't just Nicole and Riker that I loved. I also loved the secondary characters, especially the other vampires in the MoonBound Clan.
I can't wait for Hunter's book! And Myne's! Oh, yes, those two are definitely on my list. xD

Vampire slaves and humans using vampires as experimental rats? What is going on? In this new series by Ms. Ione, humans are vile filthy monsters. What they do to vampires is inhumane. I don't understand the gelding of male vampires. What is the purpose of this? Nicole loosing her parents to a vampire uprising is justice in my book. Kill them all. Nicole Martin is the CEO of Daedalus. They are the largest company with providing vampires and medicine based on vampire experimentation.
The world Ms. Ione builds is different than many vampire mythology. She incorporates a bit of Native American lore. It's intriguing and only lightly touched upon. For the most part, this book showcased the evils of humans. It is both disheartening and depressing.
The characters in this story are okay. Nicole is a female lead I can get behind. I liked her. She starts out a bit naive. As her eyes open, she learns to roll with the punches. She's highly intelligent from a science perspective. From a political intrigue perspective, she's completely inadequate. Perhaps I'm jaded and cynical. I saw the betrayal and how events would unfold from a mile away. She does live in her ivory tower of research.
Riker is a typical alpha male vampire. He's stubborn and volatile. He didn't do much for me. He is fine as a mate for Nicole. In a few months, I won't even remember he existed. Hunter, the chief of the MoonBound Clan vampires is a different story. He's more intriguing. The epilogue of this story makes me want to read the next book. What happens to Hunter? Who does he choose? I know who I would choose, given a choice. This book is a quick read with very few surprises. Recommended for vampire romance lovers.

Oh, I just love how Ms. Ione writes! :D
One read the blurb of her stories and thinks: oh, it's the same old, same old.
But they are always new and unexpected.
I just love when that happens!
Here we have a vampire story with a twist !
I loved Nicole. She so straitforward and honest! She's plain fantastic. For her to admit all the wrongs her family did was awesome! I felt for her. Her feelings were wodnderfully described. Nothing felt false and her every action spoke about her honesty.
Riker was great too. His feeling were more extreme, but perfect for his character and his vampire nature. His struggle with his mate death was almost too much, but it never went overboard. It was just perfect.
Their interaction was very interesting and I found myself avidly reading and wanting to find out more and more.
First their enimity, then a tentative trust, then lust, then real trust and at last love: soooo good!
The sexual part was just right: not too much and just enough. But when they get on it it's believable and so great! The moment is perfect with just right amount of violence that their natures require! Excellent!
The background story was good too and the world building allows for more stories to be written about.
The ending was tantalizing: it give you a glimpse of what the next book will be about without taking away anything from the current Nicole's and Riker's story!
I'm looking forward to reading the next book! :D
