I was born in Nottinghamshire, England, but I didn't live there for very long. The family moved to West Yorkshire when I was just eighteen months old and so I have always regarded Yorkshire as my home. I grew up there as the middle child in a family of five—all girls—in a home where books were vitally important and I read anything I could get my hands on.

Even before I could write I was making up stories. My mother tells the story of me recounting the tale of the Three Little Raindrops — Drippy, Droppy and Droopy to my two younger sisters when I was four. I can't remember a time when I wasn't scribbling away at something, and I wrote my first 'book' when I was eleven, an adventure story, most of it in secret in lessons at school—particularly maths lessons, which I hated.

But everyone, particularly teachers and my parents, told me that I would never make a living as a writer, and I should work towards a more secure career. So I decided instead that if I couldn't write books, I could at least work with them and so I settled for becoming a librarian. On leaving school, I went to the University College of Wales Aberystwyth where I studied English and Librarianship for my degree.

More importantly, university was also where I met my husband who was also studying English there. We married and moved back north, eventually settling in Lincolnshire. Here I worked as a children's librarian until I left work when my son was born.

After three years of being a full-time housewife and mother, I was ready for a new challenge, but needed something I could do at home, and so I turned to my old love of writing. My first attempts at novels were written on the kitchen table, often late into the night when my son was asleep or during a few snatched hours when he was out at nursery school.

The first two novels sent off to Harlequin Mills & Boon were rejected, but the third attempt was successful. I can still remember the moment that a letter arrived instead of the rejection slip I had been dreading. I think I must have read it over and over at least a hundred times before the reality of what it said sank in, and for days I kept checking it just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. In 1984, THE CHALK LINE was published just in time to be one of my best Christmas presents ever.

Fitting in hobbies around working and being a wife and mother can be difficult, but I always find time to read. I love all sorts of fiction, especially Romance, obviously. I also enjoy historical novels, detective fiction and long, absorbing biographies about fascinating people and I can spend hours in bookshops just browsing. I enjoy knitting and embroidery, but I rarely get time to do either now that I'm a full-time writer. I also love looking round antique fairs or junk shops, hoping to add to my collection of Victorian embroidery. During my working hours my four cats, all adopted from the RSPCA, usually keep me company in my study, though they have to be dissuaded from sitting on the piles of papers that they are convinced are there just for them.

I love to travel and visit new places, especially places with an interesting history, and I always enjoy visiting old castles or stately homes and imagining how the people who used to live there spent their days.

I'm often asked if I'm a romantic sort of person because I specialise in writing Romances. Well, if being romantic means caring about other people enough to make that extra special effort, then yes, I am. Romance is about making the important people in your life feel valued and letting them know that you care. But I also write about relationships and the difficulties people sometimes have in understanding each other, or expressing affection, or overcoming problems.

Sometimes—when the right words won't come, or an idea hasn't worked out as I'd thought, I wonder why I don't have some regular nine to five job, but when the story's flowing and the characters come alive, I really can't imagine a

Once again, do these people ever stop and think? Hurting an innocent third party for someone else's sin just because they're related is NOT ok and definitely NOT justified.
Long story short, hero thinks heroine' brother killed his little sister, so it is only fair he hurts the heroine.
In the end they figure out the brother wasn't actually guilty so the hero goes on and on about how he's a brute and shame to humankind (couldn't agree more) heroine with her happy uterus decides that it was all justified because he was hurt. She forgives him. She loves him, he loves her. The world is a happy place.
This is unforgivable and for gods sake, just stop!
P.s what if the brother actually DID kill the hero's sister? Would that then justify his sins? Would he still feel appalled by himself and seek forgiveness? Would the heroine deserve the treatment if that was the case?

I read this before but I had forgotten most of it. The opening scene just killed me. What a terrible person he was. I have no idea why I gave it four stars either. I must have been drinking my bathwater!!!

I was so disappointed in this story! I love a good revenge scenario and I thought I was getting the exquisite agony of Savage Destiny by Amanda Browning. From the blurb it sounds like the same set up. The hero does purposely seduce and marry the heroine in order to jilt her the next morning. All that happens. But then . . .

The whole thing - even when explained- makes zero sense. Not that any revenge story really makes much sense - but we're suppose to be so overwhelmed by the heroine's angst that we don't notice/or care. *sigh* If you have a yen for this sort of story, try to get your hands on Savage Destiny.

2.5 maybe. Nothing too special. I like senseless revenge plots, but nothing about this one to stand out from the pack. It's the old 'your male relative harmed my female relative, and you're dude's female relative I'd most like to get in bed, so obviously you must be the one to pay by tolerating my dickish behavior and multiple orgasms.'

Why me? The heroine may ask. Well, because this is an HP and the straight tycoon hero has no desire to literally screw your brother, so buck up sister and don't waste time on logic. There lies the path of madness and all that.

Don't get me wrong. This can be a fun plot (sometimes wish my bro would tee off a hot oversexed billionaire who deep down just needs love and wants to buy me a mansion.... for revenge). I love Penny Jordan's classic of this genre - Response. This one just missed the mark with me. Perhaps it was all too convoluted for HP length.

More like 2.5*.
This book was so, so. The H married the h to exact revenge on the h's younger brother. she hadn't even seen her brother in three years. So this was just another senseless, crazy revenge plots that makes no sense. The H really hurt the h but she can't hang on to her anger because she just loves him so much. The H did do a great grovel, one of the best, but it just wasn't enough for me.

This book is extremely problematic. Ronan is an emotional and sexual abuser, a master manipulator who persuades Lily to marry him, then leaves her one day later after using her - all part of elaborate revenge plan against her brother, Davey by traumatizing her. He then continues this pattern, because he hasn't got what he wanted yet, and apparently can't leave her alone.

There many 'erotic' scenes where Lily very clearly states she does not give consent to his sexual domination, but he continues anyway and it's all ok because her body is so appreciative and 'wants it'

Puh-leeze.

Oh course Walker would have you believe that despite Ronan's established and admitted pattern of betrayal and abuse, he's actually a nice guy, and on the foundation of steamy red-hot sex Lily and Ronan somehow make a working relationship, everything is wonderful, everyone is forgiven. /unicorns and rainbows and everyone lives happily ever after.

No, I don't think so. Ronan's behaviour was twisted and abhorrent. Asides from his 'reformation' and declaration of love (yeah right) there is no proof that he will not fall back into his abusive and manipulating ways if anything goes wrong into the future. People don't change.

If you would like an insight into the mind of a sexual abusive partner and their perspective of domestic rape then this book is for you - everyone else stay well clear.

Oh, epic logic fail: If this is all part of plan to punish Davey and he is consumed by greed for wealth as written, why the hell would he marry Lily, just so she could presumably divorce him, take half his assets and share them with her brother?

I rate this book zero stars - absolute trash and I will be burning it shortly so no-one else has to suffer through it.

⭐️ ⭐️ 4 Anguished Stars ⭐️ ⭐️

Lily meets, falls in love with and marries Ronan all within a couple months. She believes that she has found her soulmate. What she doesn't know is that Ronan has darker reasons for marrying her. And after their wedding night, he walks out on her. When she demands the reason why, he cruelly tells by her to ask her brother.

This is a story about misplaced revenge and the unexpected surprises that fate has in store. There is a lot of pain and angst in both sides. I wanted to hate Ronan for the things he did to Lily, but I couldn't. He has his own deep hurts that explains, if not excuses, his decisions and behavior.

I also wanted to strangle Lily's brother Davey. But he has demons that were so deep and dark that I wasn't surprised by the things that he did.

This was a heartbreaking story from the start, but one that is worth reading!

I could not understand how her brother who hasn’t seen her for at least three years could fill Ronan in so much on what Lily was up to. I also got annoyed that her brother continuously ran from his problems. If he wanted revenge so bad on Davey then one would think he would have investigated the boy more! Then the secrets she revealed wouldn’t have been so surprising. Why didn’t she sale the house to begin w/ if she so heartbroken by his abandonment and why would the second time be any different from the first?

It seems that whatever Ronan says he doesn’t necessarily mean. He drove me NUTS! Constant hot and cold – he sought to exact revenge on Lily for what Davey had done; he never tells her the real truth until the end when one would think it would be nice if he spouted that off after walking away the first time, he knew that he hurt her then as that was his intent; he seems shocked that her clothes don’t melt away when he makes advances and he somehow seems to continually blame someone else for things that he himself had instigated. Then Lily and her poor me attitude seemed deeply upset by his abandoning of her, she never turns to her other family “uncle” – he must have been a plot device, and she seems to want to forget all that Ronan had done to her and jump back in w/ him only to pull back sharply when she feels that he doesn’t love her.

Their spats were good, but they were all just words w/ no real anger behind them. One would think she would be more devastated! I liked that she fought him on occasions, but again I would have liked to whack him because he still felt that after delivering the blows he did on the day after their wedding that she should have given in to him quicker and put out while waiting for his nemesis to return.

Ronan gets upset that Lily thinks he could seek revenge for money, how else was she to feel she obviously NEVER knew him, yet it’s okay to think that she would be so blasé as to get rid of anything that he had left behind when he left the first time.

He works at feeling remorse, but a lot of the things he feels remorse for are after the fact and believing that she knew the whole truth and condoned it therefore she deserved to have things taken from her and smashed. YET, that doesn’t discount the fact that he searched her out to begin w/ to enact his revenge upon her FIRST! He thinks that he is no better than her brother and yet I would argue that he is worse. While Davey inadvertently caused strive, Ronan set out to destroy w/ malice aforethought! He planned it all and went through w/ it. Yes, you get his POV and yes, Lily doesn’t make his initial walking away easy, but he did walk away and he does come back to wreck further havoc in her life. Sure he feels horrible and he grovels a bit, but I kept feeling that some feelings were explored deeper w/in thoughts and not vocalized or actions presenting themselves to show the pain that was inflicted upon her by his abandonment. In the end if felt more like the story is saying because she loves him so much it’s all good! Blah!!

Still not sure how his vengeance would have hurt Davey either, seriously this guy didn’t bother to see his sis for three years why would it bother him what she and Ronan were getting up too?

This certainly had everything, revenge, the obligatory 'misunderstanding', the 'I love him,I hate him,I love him' heroine, the 'jerk' hero AND what I considered to be surefire storyline. After all the blurb at the back of the book about being rejected the morning after your wedding made it a must read for me.

Cue..major angst and a compelling read. Well the angst was all mine and it was compelling in a way I hadn't anticipated. I read it quickly just so that it was over with.

It had it graces like reasons behind his initial rejection and his realisation about his actions, which were better done than I have read in books I've liked. Unfortunately moments like when he comes back after dumping her and with a token protest she accepts him back into her life were too many and made this a miss for me.

Our hero wanted revenge on the heroines brother for killing his sister, so he marries the heroine, sleeps with her and then leaves her. The heroine is devastated, when the hero turns up again looking for the heroines brother, he ends up getting her pregnant without knowing. Then upon a sad story in the heroines past, he learns that he was cruel and his revenge was wrong. Now letting her go is the only way that he can feel less guilty but then he notices the baby bump.

Decent story, it wasn't overall anything special but I still enjoyed reading it.

I would have liked this better if the H thought he had a reason to seek revenge on the h for something she had apparently done herself rather than make her a pawn in his game of vengeance against her trainwreck of a brother. And, despite her young age, the H's sister showed a real lack of judgement getting involved with an addict.

And it annoyed me that the h's weak, self-centered brother is later made to seem a sympathetic character, so sorry for what happened, he was led astray, didn't mean to let his sister down, etc., and everyone (including the H) suddenly forgives him. BALONEY!!! This guy needed to grow a pair, put on his big boy boxers and man up a long time before he did, and stop blaming the world for his bad choices and stupidity. And the h needed to stop enabling him!

The H needed to realize long before he actually did that his revenge scheme was crummy, the h didn't deserve that, he needed to rid himself of his demons and when the truth of what really did occur finally came out, he should have been a lot more regretful.

This story had too many weak points.

لما قرأت الملخص توقعت شيء بروعة القدر القاسي بس أبدا جدا سيئة جدا واحداث غير منطقية وماحسيت بمشاعر الأبطال ابدا

I thought I am going to read something woooow like savage destiny but not at all..I couldn't feel their love to each other and the hero's acts toward her brother wasn't logic neither when he seek revenge nor the end of the book.

cw: mention of drug use, overdose, alcoholism, revenge, past death, grief

The plot is pretty basic and common among romances, especially Harlequins, but it was still pretty enjoyable. Definitely not a favorite but it was good enough to pass the time with.
