Towards the end of the Alloway’s Working Memory Advantage, they present a remarkably lucid analogy that transforms me into a caveman, or as they aptly put it, a hominin. I wholeheartedly embrace the Caveman identity!
In essence, they discuss the opening scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey, where hominins encounter a black monolith. This pivotal moment ignites curiosity and catalyzes the development of tool use. It symbolizes the unlocking of the working memory advantage, a monumental evolutionary leap.
They astutely observe, “The monolith represents the unlocking of the working memory advantage.”
I raise my hand in astonishment, exclaiming,
“I am utterly astounded, just like the Cavemen in the movie!”
Reflecting on my extensive and enriching life, I am left pondering why I was unaware of this profound revelation.
What if I had this information when I was younger ?
This question resonate deeply within me, echoing like the resounding chimes of a giant Italian church bell throughout the land and my life.
As our Archimedes famously said, “Give me a lever, and I shall turn the world.”
As a neurodivergent, highly creative individual, I resonate with the character of Odysseus. Unlike Odysseus, who bravely and successfully navigated a perilous journey, I have endured numerous trials, diagnoses, and essentially failed attempts to conform to conventional societal norms. I firmly believe that I might have emerged from the labyrinth of conventional society much sooner if I had been privy to the insights presented in this book, the alleys that it illuminates.
