Graduate high school. Check. Get accepted into a university. Check. Move out of parents' house. Check. Meet the neighbours... Uh-oh.
It seems as though all of the residents of Stony Creek Estates have a story to tell and a secret to keep. When high-school graduate Jordan Melville moves in, he soon realizes that a curious mind can sometimes lead to unexpected discoveries... and unpredictable consequences.
J.R. Vikse is a Canadian author, who, after years of imagining stories using nothing but his brain and a superfluous pile of Lego, finally decided to try his hand at writing them down. Whether it works out or not is up to you. He was an early reader, since there wasn't ever much else to do during Canadian winters, but he didn't get into serious writing until his 20s. Jason wrote his first short story in 2008, and has pecked away at the keyboard ever since. He published his first book, The Lazy Postman, in May of 2012, and always has more projects on the go than he probably should. When he isn't writing, which isn't often, he can be found onstage, where he employs other forms of story-telling as a director and actor, mostly in the genre of musical theatre. He has directed or performed in seventeen productions in three countries over the last nine years. He currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Cute "coming of age" story of sorts. Young man gets his own place, and meets all kinds of eccentric neighbors, works to bring them all together.
There were parts of this story that seemed to fantastic to believe. I almost expected his parents (who got him the place) to jump out with some kind of "gotcha" but they all turned out to be true. It was a cute story, and I enjoyed what he learned about himself, as he learned about others. His sense of humor was a plus too.
I won this book in a giveaway and I am BEYOND excited that I did!! Mr. Vikse was born to tell stories and this is truly one of the best debut novels I've ever read. I want to live in Stony Creek Estates because I would have the coolest neighbors in the world! I look forward to reading more awesome stories by J.R., so in closing.... Thank you Mr. Vikse for taking me on one heck of a crazy wild ride:)
A very intriguing story. I really liked how the author wrote this book. Jordan has graduated high school, his father has found him an apartment to live in while attending university and drops Jordan off and leaves him to settle in. He finds he has very different neighbors and the story is his interaction with these quirky characters. A very enjoyable read.
I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
Fun is what I call this book. Breaches the boundaries of plausibility somewhat but I didn't care because the characters were very intriguing and made me want to see what happened next!
A solid recommend from me provided you don't require it to be serious.
got this book as a free download for my kindle and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. A bit unrealistic in parts and would liked if some of the characters backgrounds were developed more. it is an interesting storyline and plot and worth a read :)
A quirky coming-of-age story, a uniquely twisted cast of characters, and a bizarre mystery that keeps you guessing right to the end. It all adds up to a quick and fun read... a great first novel from this author!
