I finished reading this book with my cousin, and was delighted to find that I already know about 80% of the information in this book. Of course in my very biased and obsessive opinion, there weren't enough pages dedicated to great white sharks. Other than that I really enjoyed the colorful photographs, random factoids, and digestable research represented in this book. It's a very enjoyable read indeed.

Sharks get up close with the ocean fearsome predators

"Sharkopedia", a book recommendation. Sharks are oldest animals that ever lived. They are even older than dinosaurs. Sharks are my favorite animal ever. There is not just only one shark, no there are 400 hundred of them. Some of them are harmless, but we have to protect sharks because shark finners kill sharks for their fins that’s just wasting sharks. Join the shark protectors. I wonder what your favorite shark is?

I know I never review non-fiction books. Ever. But when I had the opportunity to review a book that was described as the complete guide to everything shark, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy.

With more than 400 photos, Sharkopedia shares everything there is to know about sharks. The people of the Discover Channel bring the world of this giant beast alive with their guide to all 498 species of the shark.

Did I ever mention that I love sharks? Well, I do. And Shark Week is one of the best weeks of the year. So being able to look at a book full of everything shark is pretty awesome. The pictures are so amazing and you really get up close and personal with the sharks. Every single page is filled with colorful pictures as well as new, interesting facts about the huge, scary creatures.

Not only were the pictures amazing, but the facts were so interesting and fun to read. Some pages even have a "fin fact," which I think is clever and adds some fun to the animal. Every page brings something new and the layout and colors never, ever get boring. There are so many different types of sharks and you get to see each and every one of them in this book.

If you're a fan of sharks, I'd definitely recommend picking up this book. It's one you can look at over and over again and never get bored. So while non-fiction really isn't my thing, sharks will always be an exception. Go out and get yourself a copy of Sharkopedia now and explore the incredible world of sharks.

(Sharkopedia, Magic Tree House #53: Shadow of the Shark, Entry #4)

I chose to use these two books as twin texts because they are both great intermediate level books about sharks. Sharkopedia is super informative about sharks and has a lot of great pictures and information. It is supposed to be like an encyclopedia book of sharks. Shadow of the Sharks is one of the Magic Tree House books and is about how Jack and Annie are on a vacation and get attacked by a shark in their dream. The Magic Tree House series are very popular among students in the intermediate grades. For me, I could never put them down. If I were to have a student who was struggling with the motivation to read and I knew that he/she enjoyed learning about animals like sharks, I would give him/her both of these books to read. I could also use these together when doing a lesson on sharks. I could use the Sharkopedia book for a science lesson on sharks and show it on the Elmo. Then I could read Shadow of the Shark to the class later on. Then, I would ask my class about some of the things that they learned about sharks in Sharkopedia and see in Shadow of the Shark.

Everything you've ever wanted to know about sharks is in this book. Did you know that there are 498 different species of shark? This book has them all. With more than 400 photos it is packed with amazing visuals. The information covers a wide variety of areas, including feeding habits, habitats, research, and much more.

Immediately after opening the package I lost the book to my 7 year old son. He fell in love with it. I was impressed with the large, clear pictures. There is a wealth of information on each page, but it is written simply enough that my son could read and process it. But this is a great book for an adult shark enthusiast as well. The book delves very slightly into evolution, so those who do not believe in this should be aware. But over all, definitely worth the price.

I received this book free of charge from Goodman Media International in exchange for my honest review.

"Discovery Channel Sharkopedia: The Complete Guide to Everything Shark," by the Discovery Channel, is the perfect book for any avid shark lover. Directed toward primary or intermediate readers, this informational book is filled with photos, fun facts, and innumerable amounts of knowledge relating to all things shark. It is filled with real-life photos that capture the intriguing aspects of sharks and leave the reader flipping the page.

I paired this nonfiction book with the "Nugget and Fang: Friends Forever--or Snack Time?" by Tami Sauer. This is a simple children's book about the friendship between a shark and a minnow. Aspects of humor and entertainment are brought forth when Nugget learns that minnows and sharks are not typically friends. This tale is playful and brings a lightheartedness to the topic of sharks.
