Abel is struggling to find his footing at the werewolf sanctuary when he receives terrible news: the girl he loves and his brother have vanished. Seth calls to claim that they're eloping, but Abel knows it's a lie. There's no way that Rylie would get married without telling him. Not when the memory of her scorching kiss is still burning on his lips.
Certain that something is wrong, Abel drops everything to rescue Rylie and Seth - and stake his claim over his mate.
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.
If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil
This series is GREAT, I definitely recommend it. Now I'm on to the next book in this series. I just wish they were longer. Each book is only a little over an hour.
A fun novella that takes Seth and Rylie into situations they've been in before, but Reine lightens it up by acknowledging what she's doing. We're also getting a wider sense of the world, the one that I know from the Descent series--demons, zombies, etc. -- full of other creatures. This isn't just a world with werewolves but all sorts of paranormal action.
I'm still convinced in the three-way love triangle. It's never forced, and I'm starting to wonder if Reine will turn this into a polyamorous relationship. She's an author I don't doubt would go this route and write it beautifully.
I DNF'd this one. Alpha dominance and mating are hardly new tropes in shifter fantasy but reading this I realized there are some definite rape/non-consent implications in these themes and I do not want to read them. I was VERY unhappy to see this incredible woman blossoming into power (and Alpha-hood) in the last series becoming submissive in this one, and when it became clear she wasn't going to "snap out of it" I stopped reading.
Things keep heating up between Rylie and Abel as their feelings shift and change. Abel is off to save Rylie and Seth and we find out exactly who Cain is.
NOOOOO NOT THE PREGNANCY ARC 😭😭😭 Also cain idk not well linked just randomly shows up not established that well and I beg just let Eleanor die i cba with her again

I highly enjoyed this third installment of the Cain Chronicles, the spinoff novellas of the wonderful Seasons of the Moon Series. Moon of the Terrible focuses more so on Abel than the previous novellas (I’d say New Moon Summer is mainly about Rylie and her feelings and Blood Moon Harvest is mainly about Seth and his, so it just makes sense that Moon of the Terrible focuses mainly on Abel). Abel has had it rough. From being a hunter and hater of werewolves, to becoming one, he’s had to completely shift his way of thinking and come to terms with his new life. He has also fallen hard for the pack Alpha, Rylie, who just so happens to be Abel’s brother’s betrothed. I feel for the guy, I really do. He’s had a very hard-knock life, and the minute he finally feels like he belongs, in swoops Seth to “save the day.” Honestly, I don’t think Abel ever catches a break, but perhaps he will in the next installment of this awesome series.
While this novella spends a lot of time assessing Abel, there is still a ton of action as well. In fact, this is the novella in which we learn the true identity of Cain, and I surely wasn’t expecting it! Nor was I expecting Seth to ask for what he did, or for it to happen, and on top of all that, another bombshell was dropped, as well. This is definitely a novella full of surprises, and I’m hoping that it allows Seth and Abel to connect with each other and put their rivalry aside, but I think, in all honesty, it’s about to get even worse…
I have to say right off the bat that I am a huge fan of this author and this series. It all begins with Seasons of the Moon books one through four and then continues on with the Cain Chronicles, which are very short vignettes continuing the story with the primary characters and short adventures. In this installment Rylie and Seth have been kidnapped and Able sets out to rescue them. It is in my opinion very well written and was a great short. However, it must be said that without reading the prior series and installments of the Cain Chronicles, while the story is still a good tale, it begs for background history and I would recommend reading this series in order beginning with Seasons of the Moon for the greatest enjoyment and a full picture of what is going on. The original series and the continuation in the Cain Chronicles can both currently be found individually and in collections of the complete series. This series is suitable for older young adults on up due to some of the more violent content. Now for the disclaimer, while I am a fan, I do not know the author personally, although have interacted with her on facebook. I have read all of her books, some I have bought others have been gifted to me, and I do not recall, which category this book falls in. I have not been asked to review this work, but it is my pleasure to share about this fun series that I have really enjoyed.
The Cain Chronicles mark a turning point for Rylie and everyone around her. She may be the Alpha and her wolf may be stronger than any one else’s but she still had human drama to deal with. Since I skipped this series and went right to the Ascension series before I even finished the Seasons of the Moon series, I was a little confused about how the Rylie, Seth, Abel triangle actually happened. This series clears everything up. Up until now, I didn’t really like Abel – Moon of the Terrible was my turn around point. Readers have been getting to know him a little bit better with each book and even though I haven’t changed my opinion about Seth, I finally understand the ‘why’ of it all.
S.M. Reine doesn’t make things easy for her characters. She has basically put all three of these characters in an impossible situation that they have no control over. I promised no spoilers, so you’ll just have to continue the series to completely understand.
If the internal battle between Seth, Rylie and Abel wasn’t bad enough, they’ve got a lot of external battles going on that make things even more complicated. Then there was the ending… yeah, I knew it was coming but it was still jaw dropping. Needless to say, I picked up Red Rose Moon immediately….
I so hope Levi gets what is coming to him as he is an upstart who wants to be alpha yet doesn't deserve the title, taunting Abel about Riley, so immature and annoying. The introduction of Crystal is interesting, she reminds me of the cheerleader types at school who think their looks will get them everywhere but she has some tough competition if she wants Abel for herself. Seriously what is it with Eleanor, she just won't stay dead and I thought vampires were hard to kill but she takes it to a whole new level. Cain makes an appearance and more family secrets are revealed. When Seth checks in and says they are eloping, Abel knows something is wrong. I have always been Team Abel, even though he heard his brother propose he still dropped everything and rushed to find Rylie. He just barged in guns blazing, what a bloody heroic gesture, crazy and reckless yes but a guy you can depend on. Rylie's news will definitely put a spanner in the works and all sorts of complications will arise as she obviously has no memory of the times she is a wolf and it may just come back to haunt her.
Oooookay. So those things that were coming, they're here. And it's not good. And even when it could potentially be good, it's not good. Everybody's in a pickle! Cain's identity is revealed, Seth and Abel's mom just won't stay down and Rylie is floundering.
What does this mean for the pack? I have no idea. Levi's actions against Abel don't bode well. The ominous hints of what Cain and his crew have planned for the werewolves at the sanctuary are even worse. Rylie's so twisted up with everything that she's barely exerting her Alpha influence. And I'm kinda thinking that Seth needs to stop the brotherly competition and start acting like the smart guy I know he is.
Because the story isn't over yet. Go, Team Werewolf!
(I think I'm drifting closer to Abel's side of the equation with every installment. I *like* him, even when he's being domineering and kissing girls he probably shouldn't be kissing. Dangit.)
Moon of the Terrible will leave you guessing up till near the end of the book wondering who Cain is. It’s not who you think it is till the very end of the book along with finding out that something is wrong with Rylie.
It takes place where Blood moon Harvest left off. With Seth and Rylie captured, Abel and everyone else doesn’t realize this until a strange call from Seth leaves Abel knowing something is wrong. Glad to leave the sanctuary after putting Levi in his place Abel and Three other wolves leave to go after Seth and Rylie. With Seth and Rylie they learn that people who should be dead aren’t dead and that if they don’t escape soon they will risk being dead themselves.
Third book was exciting with fights with fellow pack members and also with the bad guys. It leaves you wanting to find out what’s going to happen next. Not to mention there is a few unanswered questions that you hope is going to be answered in the next book.
Wow... So much has happened in this book. Though I must say that I did enjoy seeing Elenor again. it was crazy to see how Cain fits perfectly into everything.
To go on with the review. I will say that I love and enjoyed the book. I only gave it four stars because there were some events that happened in the story that just didn't seem right, like some of the character's response to certain situations.
Other than that, the book was written beautifully and had so much more action that the last two books in the series. This is better than the last two books.
I would recommend this book to everyone. I believe that everyone will enjoy the action and the adventure. However, I must point out that you do need to read Seasons of the Moon Series before you start the Cain Chronicles.

Oh Jeez **eyeroll**, there must not be any other woman on the face of the Earth, except his brothers...I'm so tired of reading about love triangles between brothers.
Good thing the storyline is a good one, or I would have deleted these series two books ago...and don’t get me started with the pregnant idiot, you don’t know what Cain meant? Really Rylie? Stop. It.
Full of action once again, with things deepening between Abel and Rylie. Rylie still has feelings for Seth though so is getting more confused by the day. Lots of action in this book and you find out who Cain is.
Good but way too short.

Moon of the Terrible by S.M. Reine is the third book in the Cain Chronicles. It is very well written with and exciting story line. As Alpha, Rylie must learn to be a bit stronger, but she remains more nurturing. The suspense and intrigue is woven intricately through the characters. Whom shall they trust?
Another good, quick installment in this series. I'm still on team Abel for some reason, even though I'm pretty sure he's a jerk. I have also figured out the mystery of Cain sometime around the end of book 1. I'm more interested in the brother drama, of course!
I am really liking this series can't wait for the next one after that ending. My only complaint is I wish that Seth or Abel wouldn't save her, I want her to do the saving. Considering she gets her fair share of butt kicking it's a minor complaint. Go team Abel!
Rylie and Seth was kidnapped together this time. Seth got Rylie to bit him. don't think it took though. found out who Cain is. plus Rylie is pregnant. oh what fun
I kind of predicted that the ending was going to happen after their run in with Cain. I'm interested to finish the series, and see how Seth takes the info she's about to tell him. Although, I predict that she will choose Abel.
Lots of stuff going on in this book - learning more about werewolves, crazy family secrets, love triangles, and of course, hunters. I'm just as torn as Rylie is between Seth and Abel though I'm not sure how long Rylie can ignore her wolf nature.
Jesus! I certainly didn't really expect that, I'm assuming the baby would be Abel's because they were 'mated' kind of. This series is certainly keeping me on my toes. HOLY HECK!
