Essential reading for the hobbyist who wants to get up and running quickly, this compact reference cuts straight to the chase and covers installation, set-up, the shell, the desktop, applications, servers, and security Harnesses the authors' broad understanding of Linux operating systems, particularly SUSE Linux, and offers a focused approach to quickly solving common problems and performing tasks Eliminates arcane material and targets only the most popular topics of everyday tasks SUSE Linux is rapidly growing in the U.S. largely due to its acquisition by Novell, who is introducing all of its corporate customers to the open source Linux platform
If you're new to Linux and are giving openSUSE a try, then I'd highly recommend this book.
If you're otherwise a beginning to intermediate Linux user, who is giving openSUSE a try, then I'd "suggest" this book rather than recommend it. Most of the book is devoted to standard Linux stuff that you can find most any book about Linux. But there are parts that are SUSE-specific and that's why I bought the book.
It's a nice pocked-sized book and I didn't need a big honkin' one on openSUSE since I was already an intermediate Linux user.
