The Missing Chapters

Rate this book
An emotional journey of learning to love again. Will a dark past be the ruin of their happily ever after?

Jessica has issues. Not regular every day issues, but issues like her ex-fiancé lost his mind and tried to kill her - type issues. She survived her nightmare and moved to England to start fresh. Easier said than done.

After living through her nightmare, she finds it difficult to trust anyone and she spends most of her time alone, writing stories about people who were happy, had normal lives and were always in love. One might call it ironic, however, Jessica saw it as more of a vision of what her life could have been like if she had never met Chris.

One day while looking for inspiration for her book, Jessica runs into a young actor who had fallen from grace when he was involved in a near-fatal car accident that left him severely scarred and extremely bitter. Kellan wanted nothing to do with Jessica when she spoke to him. He was rude and distant, thinking she was simply another person who wanted to stare at his disfigurement. In spite of himself, he couldn't resist her clumsy charm, like the way she choked on her own saliva at the shock of seeing him, to her horrible jokes and her incredibly loud stomach growl. Within a week of knowing her, he was in love.

Love doesn't mean easy, however, and while both of them found themselves engulfed in feelings they never imagined or hoped to ever feel again, it was like being on the Gemini of emotional rollercoasters. As emotions spiraled out of control and countless tears had been shed, Jessica and Kellan learned to finally believe in trust, love and each other and life was finally wonderful for Jessica and Kellan. They made an enviable life together, they were deeply in love, their careers were flourishing, and they started a family. How could they know that the nightmare that had nearly killed Jessica was about to reoccur? No one knew that Chris was free, no one that would warn them that is.

Seeking revenge for abandoning him, Chris comes for Jessica. He wants to make her pay for leaving him. But most of all, he wants her back because she is his. No one can keep them apart and they will be together forever - one way or the other.

With barely any leads and no knowledge of Chris' freedom, Kellan begins a tireless search for his missing wife. With the help of Jessica's best friend, Alicia, they begin to find clues as to what happened and who had taken her. Reluctantly, Alicia fills Kellan in to all of the tortures that Chris had put Jessica through. Unimaginable tortures that she had tried so hard to forget. As Kellan cried, all he could think was, "Oh God please! Help me find her in time!"- but time was running out…

This is more than a sexy celebrity love story. It reminded me of Tina Reber's LOVE UNSCRIPTED, but this one is way better written and heavy with ominous textures. CS excels at portraying the raw sensitivity that Kellan, the gorgeous actor, has about his recently scarred face. You're also introduced immediately to the horrific memories that Jessica, the famous writer, carries from her scary past. This up front communication is what I love most about this H/h relationship. From the moment they meet, they are refreshingly open with one another and this honesty is sustained throughout the story.

The majority of the novel is a performance of their growing love. Theirs is an organic growth, tested by the hardships of stardom, the on-the-road lifestyle, and the newness of reciprocated trust. If it weren't for the foreboding prologue, one might think this is a skip-through-the-park-la-dee-da-hearts-and-kittens kind of story. That is, until about 75% in, the dark prologue which has been prowling in the shadows of this sweet little fantasy, finally escapes. CS doesn't filter this gritty setback. The reader is there, with Jessica emotionally and physically, through every second of her torment.

I didn't have time to read this when I did, but I made the mistake of peeking at the prologue, and well, I didn't put it down until I finished it. The love scenes are beautifully written, Kellan has a kind of boyish charm, and Jessica has an inner strength and wit that makes a wholly admirable heroine. I highly recommend this tragic romantic novel, especially if you're a fan of Barbara Elsborg's STRANGERS.

Good God! Did we all read the same friggin' book? Firstly, let me say that I'm shocked that I actually read the whole book considering I was thinking of giving up half-way thru. I just honestly cannot believe all the positive reviews for this novel. It did start off really well. In fact, it was amazing to read how Jessica and Kellan met in the park. Plus, you could really feel the love they had for one another - hence two stars. I really thought I was going to love this story; however, unlike others, I didn't care for it. It's understandable in relationships to have feelings of insecurity. But come on people! 375 pages of reiterating their declarations of love; telling each other of their hang-ups and insecurities; how wonderful they are; and how they can’t live without them. That’s fine. No big deal. But it never stopped! And what the fuck is with all the crying? We've got both Jessica and Kellan bawling their eyes out thru the entire book. You heard me people. This is not an exaggeration. Throughout the entire novel one or both of them is crying about their love for each other. Fuck me! Pretty soon I wanted to cry because it just never stopped. I don't know where I got my strength but I hung on. The premise of the story was intriguing, but unfortunately it was executed very poorly. The writing style was all over the place, not to mention being very simplistic. The story is told from both Jessica and Kellan's POV; but it's also reads like you're reading someone’s journal. I know editing can be an issue for some people, and I don't blame them. It can be irritating. This novel definitely had some spelling and grammatical errors. The one aspect of this novel that I believe could have seriously benefited from having an editor is with respect to the copious amount of insignificant and unnecessary details that should have been deleted. As for the ex-fiancée returning, I can’t believe how long it took to bring forth this story. As important as this is to the overall novel, it’s surprising how little is written about it. In the end, do I recommend this? Absolutely not. But if you want to, I can’t stop you. Personally, I’m just glad it’s over.

At heart, this is a really sweet romance between two people who have been damaged in very different ways. Kellen's scars are physical. It derailed his acting career and put a huge dent in his self-confidence. Jessica, on the other hand, is dealing with a traumatic and terrifying event that happened in her past.

Time and her ability to channel her pain into her writing has given Jessica perspective on what happened to her. Kellen's injury is so new that he's a raw mess when Jessica stumbles across him. Emotionally raw, just so we're clear. He's angry and frustrated and self-conscious about how he looks now. Jessica soothes the rough edges and helps show him that there's more to him than just his looks.

Their romance is seriously sweet. They trust each other. They love one another. They support each other in the different phases of their lives.

Then chaos busts into their happy little world and puts Jessica back in the hands of the man who nearly killed her. Which causes a whole mess of heartache for Kellen and everyone who loves Jessica, as you can imagine.

While Jessica's nightmare is horrific, the bulk of this book is about how Jessica and Kellen connect and love one another. Even a crazed man can't come between that sort of love, as it turns out.

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion and review:

I gave this book 5 stars and here is why:

'The Missing Chapters' was a brilliant book from start to finish it was longer than the rest of Chasta Schneiders other books but that just made it better... especially when you're waiting patiently for the Prologue to happen.
Chasta's writing has improved so much and I found that the book flowed right through - I was addicted to her words.

Bravo! for ending it as a series, I am eagerly awaiting in anticipation for the next one although I honestly don't know how it can get any better than this and not blow my mind!

I LOVE this book! The characters in this book are so realistic and loveable that I read it straight through and then started it all over again! The book contains a little bit of everything, romance, humor, love, suspense, drama, crime, you name it. Let me put it this way, even my husband read and thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm so excited to see that there is going to be a sequel. I need to know what these characters are up to now and what is going to happen with Chris' crazy mother. This book will sweep you up and carry you away and then have you at the edge of your seat and afraid of what will happen next! Make sure that you have a lot of time when you start reading this one because you won't want to put it down!

The Missing Chapters by Chasta Schneider... Amazing are the words that come to mind after I read this Novel! This book left me wanting more... More of the sarcastic humor, more of each of the characters and their quirks, and more of that life... The charcter are so real! I could so hang with these people! The turn about in this Novel was so unexpected and was just what it needed! If you are looking for a book that will consume and leave you wanting more then this is one fine read! Once you are hooked day to day life will stop! Just what I and most are looking for! I hope we can look forward to this being a series because I'm not done and neither will others be after they get a taste of this book!

Oh dear. I started and I finished within an hour. There are some horrendous errors. Things that should have been picked up in the editing phase. I wonder if the author is a foreign lady ? If so, she really needs an English reader to trawl through and correct this book. Things like and when it should be an, using 2 apostrophes in couldn't, spelling hostile as hostel, Koi as coy and finally ads as adds. That was it for me.
A bloody shame as I thought the story sounded a fascinating one and looked forward to starting it.
I saw a prior reviewer noticed the errors but they didn't spoil it for her. They did for me as I was only 2% in and had found half a dozen. It really spoilt it for me.
