Doctor Alexandra Ross loves her job in the ER of big city hospital St. Joe’s. She also loves her policeman husband, Sergeant Cameron Ross. But Cameron isn’t telling her the whole truth about the dangers of his undercover work.
Alex doesn’t know that the transfer to a small inland town is a life or death issue for Cam. What she does know is that the love of her life is changing the life she loves, and he won’t tell her why.
If she wants her marriage to work, she’ll have to give up the excitement and challenge of the ER to become a GP in a hospital where no one seems to want her services. And that means leaving behind an injured brother who needs her, and a group of co-workers who’ve become her family.
It takes a cat and a challenged child to help Alex accept a new kind of medicine. But can she also accept a new kind of husband?
Bobby Hutchinson writes really sweet stories with couples who are genuinely good people. They make mistakes and sometimes they do dumb things, but their hearts are in the right place and that makes her books a pleasure to read.
This one is about a couple who move to a small town after the husband gets blackballed on the city police force for turning in a superior who was on drugs. The wife is a really good ER physician and has all sorts of trouble as the new doctor in the local clinic.
At times I wanted to smack the husband, but we get his POV and it is clear he loves his wife and is doing the best he can. So while he isn't supporting his wife as she needs him too, he is totally trying his best and when the cat gets lost, he spends hours trying to find him. So huge cat rescue bonus is included!
Yep, that's a spoiler, the cat is saved and everything turns out really great in the end and I had a really great time with this one. Now off to read the others...
I’m partial to medical drama, and love health care characters. I also really enjoyed that this was different than the “falling in love” romance; the hero/heroine were a married couple. Married myself, and both with careers, I know how hard it can be, and the author made the unravelling of their marriage realistic, compelling and touching. The book started a little slow, with the focus on the heroine’s brother, which kind of threw me off at first. And I really wanted a little more from Cameron’s point of view (this was really primarily Alexandra’s story), especially his childhood, but the way the problems in Alex’s marriage and in her job layered one on the other kept me riveted. Excellent.
Though this is the first book in this series it is the third book that I have read. Here is the story of a doctor and a policeman. Though they are married they don't share in their work life. This causes problems. But will they continue to grow apart of will they fight back to each other?
This is the first book for me by Bobby. I am very well pleased. I really liked the characters, story line . A pleasure to read . I look forward to reading others in the future.
It was a pleasant read, but it was one where I just wanted the characters to talk to each other aready and quit messing around. They finally did, but their lack of communcation dragged on too long.
I believe this is the first book I've read by this author. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like it but by the end, I was invested in the characters.
Hutchinson did a good job at having parallel storylines that weren't overtly obvious.
Cam has a job he likes but doing the right thing means going against the "blue line" and his fellow officers turn on him. This results in him asking for a transfer without consulting his wife--to be a bit fair to Cam, his wife's brother was in critical condition at the time, so it probably was not the best time to add something to her plate though I do still think he needed to.
Alex, Cam's wife, likes her job in the big city hospital, but chooses to follow her husband to the small town he's transferred to when she gets a job at the hospital there. She does find she likes the family practice more than she'd thought she would, but errors by the senior doctor there force her into reporting him which earns her the same treatment Cam received from his coworkers.
There were times I did wish that Cam and Alex would just sit down and talk and it did get frustrating, but it turned out that was part of the plot and when they finally did talk honestly, it meant that much more.
I am also glad to see Cam's brother, David, maturing and taking responsibility. I'm not sure I believe in the love-at-first-sight idea espoused in the book--and I certainly wouldn't recommend marrying someone after knowing them for so short a time, but . . . for a fictional happy-ever-after it was nice to see.
I loved this book, but I did want to shake Cam and tell him to talk to Alex. This book is so believable though.. Cam is a type A kind of guy that doesn't want his love Alex to know he isn't perfect. The drama in this story was pretty intense, and my heart was breaking for Alex. Family problems and crisis within the family are things everyone can relate to, and the author draws you into the story. Bravo..another fantastic story by Bobby Hutchinson!
So many books are outside of marriage, This one covers within a marriage. I had to skip a few scenes because it was too painful seeing them pull apart, They do make it, so it is an hea, And the author hits the nail on the head--its their ability to communicate freely, to share their insecurities without judgement that heals their marriage
This is a good story.... although fiction it is a true depiction of how a husband and wife need to be totally open with each other in listening and communication. Dr Alexandra and police Sgt Cameron have a perfect marriage until Cam hides insecurity issues that is causing mixed emotions for Alex.
Not many stories could keep me reading from 1am to 5am when I have to get up at 6, but this lovely story did. I really liked everything about it. Well-crafted, clean, no foul language, very romantic and inspirational. Thank you Bobby Hutchinson for your talented novel. Strongly recommended!
What do you do when you have to turn in your commanding officer and then marked as a snitch. Your life & your Dr. Wife need to start anew. Now you are overwhelmed at the job and she is dealing a stubborn older dr.
This is not your typical romance. This book goes into stresses of married life when communication breaks down. It takes you from high stress jobs in Vancouver to small town living but the problems are still there. Its good to see that eventually things work out
I really enjoyed the story of Alex and Cameron!! Loved that they worked things out! David straightened up and found his forever! Little Emily- what a firecracker!!! Loved it!!!
Sometimes doing the right thing for the right reason can derail your life................forever if you are not careful!! This well written story will take you on a journey that is not always easy. The characters are well rounded with a story line that will make you think.
I enjoyed this book very much. First time reading one of your books and I must say it was very hard for me to put down. I recommend this book to all my friends and family. Thank you and I am looking forward to reading more of your books.
Where to start with this one.... Oh, it is such a great story and so well written! There is a lot of very real emotions in this book, that will grab your heart right from the start. You won't want to put it down!
The premise for the move was unrealistic. The working conditions after Alex arrived were so bad she should have hired a lawyer and sued. Cam and Alex , there was no understanding of compassion by either of them.
I enjoyed the settings, storyline and characters. Though Cam was hard to read in his progression to obstinateness in misreading his wife and their problems. Didn't fit with original building of his character. But well worth the time to read.
I always look for books to read by Bobby Hutchinson, one of my favorite authors. This book made me feel like I was playing the part of Alex. The author puts you in that position in everyone of her books I have read. Thank you,
I loved this story, two beautiful people, inside and out, going through their ups and downs. Then finically when all was going to be lost, Cam and Alex were finally both communicating their fears, their wants and their needs. So great!
Loved the book. It was like walking into a family's life and experiencing the good and difficult times of a relationship and how to resolve it. Good story.
A very sweet romantic story with the good, bad, and mean things happening to the characters in this book. Interesting medicine in two different hospitals.
