When one of their own ties the knot with a dominatrix (no pun intended), The Impalers—a vampire rock band—are ready to party down. But trouble awaits them once again when they wake up...
Attending their bandmate Saxon’s wedding seemed simple enough for Johnny Malone and Drake Hanover. But after waking up in a dominatrix’s dungeon, they realize their cash and cell phones have been stolen—along with the bride’s wedding dress and the groom. And then there’s the matter of the two women in the room...
Loose cannon Johnny is handcuffed to Lizette, an uptight paper pusher. She wants to help save Johnny from the horrible fate in store for him at the hands of the Vampire Alliance, but he won’t sign the paperwork. Then there’s Josie, the waifish caterer from the reception, who rescues Drake from a sex swing. Josie may be cute and make a great cupcake, but Drake knows she might also be the thief. Or it could have been that gang of drag queens all dressed as Cher...
Regardless, Johnny and Lizette need to get out of these handcuffs. Drake and Josie need to find their missing belongings. And Saxon needs to be located before the Vampire Alliance comes down on them hard...
USA Today and New York Times Bestselling author Erin McCarthy sold her first book in 2002 and has since written over a hundred novels and novellas in teen fiction, new adult, and adult romance. Erin has a special weakness for high-heeled boots, beaches and martinis. She lives in Ohio with her family, two grumpy cats and a socially awkward dog.
Waking up to your friend's ass-less leather chaps clad rear hanging from a sex swing--inches from your face, while handcuffed to a French chippy intent on making you crazy, in a decked out BDSM dungeon and not a single clue how you wound up there... Worst. Hangover. Ever. lol
And what kicks off an entertaining romp through NOLA filled with gangs of Cher drag queens, random guard alligators and a creeper Domme as vampire rockers Johnny and Drake (and the women they woke up with) piece together the night after their friends oh so bizarre BDSM themed wedding-- think cat-o'-nine-tails bridal "bouquets". Yeah it was an...interesting one. And not only is everyone rather clueless on their after hours "adventures" but the groom's gone missing too.
Fangs for Nothing was utterly ridiculous and completely, gloriously entertaining. You can't go into this one expecting a serious...well, anything. It's fun, light, a touch goofy and just supposed to make you smile. McCarthy and Love did a fantastic job with both couples. Great chemistry, a couple steamy scenes, lots of humor and mix mashed personalities thrown together. The guys are laid back and sexy and the heroines feisty and independent which makes for some interesting moments as they sort things out and sorta kinda fall in love.
The whodunit style mystery kept me guessing right until the end. Which I loved. I laughed. I ::gigglesnorted:: I rolled my eyes just a bit. But then so did they. And that's what makes this one work and will have me coming back for more.
This one was too similar to the last book, drugged again, couldn't we get something new???? While there were parts that I laughed at, the book was like the movie the Hangover, with a wedding with a domme, vampires, and 5 Cher impersonators. All sorts of wackiness ensues.
Quick & Dirty: Always be very careful about what you drink at a party, even if it’s a wedding reception. You never know when you might wake up in a dominatrix’s dungeon handcuffed to a person you just met with no memory of the previous night!
Opening Sentence: When Johnny Malone jerked out of sleep suddenly, he became aware of three things in rapid succession.
The Review:
When I read the synopsis for this book, I wasn’t sure what I was going to think. I figured it was either going to be incredibly bad or a light and fun read. Thankfully, while there were some issues, for the most part, this really was a fun book!
This is the second book in the Impalers series and focuses on four main characters: Johnny, Lizette, Drake, & Josie Lynn. Lizette comes to New Orleans as a representative of the Vampire Alliance. She is supposed to investigate the “death” of Johnny Malone. Despite Johnny’s protestations that he actually faked his death to avoid a girl, Lizette is required to continue her investigation. To further that end, she follows Johnny to his friend Saxon’s wedding, intent on questioning him further. While they talk, they end up having a few glasses of punch. The next thing they know, they’re waking up in the bride’s dominatrix dungeon (yes, you read that right) handcuffed together with no memory of the previous night.
At the same wedding, Drake meets Josie Lynn, the caterer, when he uses her to try and deter an over-amorous bridesmaid. Josie does not take kindly to Drake’s actions and wants nothing to do with him, especially when his actions caused her to ruin one of the dishes for the wedding reception. Throughout the course of the night, they each have a glass of punch. The next thing they know, Josie wakes up wearing nothing but Drake’s shirt, while Drake is strapped into a sex swing. Now, these four people must try and piece together what happened last night. The big question is, can they do that without killing each other first?
As I said earlier, this was a very light and fun read that never took itself too seriously. I think my main complaint would be that, with there being four main characters, there didn’t seem to be enough time to focus on character development. Each character had a back story that was hinted at, but never really delved into deeply, which is disappointing because the hints that were given really pricked my curiosity. I would especially have liked to get more detail on Drake’s past and what happened to make him a vampire. A bit more depth would have helped me connect to the characters more.
One other thing that bothered me involved the transitions between chapters. A chapter would end with Josie asking Drake a question. The next chapter would be with Johnny and Lizette in a completely different location, and then the following chapter would begin with Drake answering Josie’s question. It would take me a few seconds to remember what the question had been, which really disrupted my enjoyment of the book.
Despite its issues that kept me from giving it a higher rating, this ended up being a very fun, light read. I have not read the first book in the series and had no problems understanding what was going on. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to take a break from some of the more serious/darker books in the genre.
Notable Scene:
“I’m ready. What is our plan?”
“The plan is to run past the alligator. If he snaps, I whack. That’s it. Nothing fancy.”
“In other words, you do not really know what to do.”
“Exactly.”
Well, she supposed she could appreciate his honesty. “Understood. Shall we? On the count of three?”
“Let’s just go.” Johnny pulled open the door and they both ran. Which was something of a challenge, given that they were attached at the wrist and they both tried to squeeze to the left, out of the path of the alligator’s jaw. They were stumbling and bouncing, Johnny’s free arm swinging with the crop even though the alligator wasn’t doing a damn thing. He just sat there looking like they were a couple of complete idiots. He was probably right.
FTC Advisory: Berkley/Penguin provided me with a copy of Fangs for Nothing. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
Another super fun read from Erin & Kathy!! I simply adore these books.
We met our crazy cast in The Fangover, book #1. That book had me shaking my head every step of the way and laughing insanely. In Fangs For Nothing, a part of our IMPALER cast is back with some new friends and enemies, and once again a big black hole where memories of what happened should be...
The Fangover gave us sex, blood, & rock-n-roll, with an alcoholic parrot singing Barry White, a priest in a bathtub, a curiously missing fang, a couple of wedding rings, a newly made vampire, & an Elvis cookie jar topper. Fangs For Nothing tries to trump that with a Fetish Dungeon complete with sex swing & handcuffs, a missing groom, 5 drag queen Cher impersonators,a gator wrestling Cajun caterer, an uptight, French death investigator, and a whole lot of 'whodunit'.
Fangs for Nothing is Johnny (the Impalers' drummer) and Drake's (the Impalers' guitarist) tale. After apparently being drugged at their buddy's wedding reception, they wake up irrevocably tied to two very unlikely women with a whole lot of WTH in-between. In order to get some answers, Johnny pairs up with Lizette - a representative from the Vampire Alliance, and Drake takes off with Josie - a feisty entrepreneur. Each couple tries to gather clues to figure out exactly what happened, but each piece of evidence just leads to more questions, and every moment they spend together builds upon the attraction that none of them can ignore - no matter how much they might want to.
I simply love the premise of these books; they're ingenious in their creativity. Just like the Hangover movies, while it's very unlikely for something like this to happen to the same group of people more than once in a lifetime, the fact that it has makes for an even funnier story and greater depth of character.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a great light-hearted Paranormal Romance with some sexy rockstar vampires set in one of the most intriguing cities of the world, then you simply must read THE IMPALERS books!
Fangs For Nothing could be read as a stand-alone, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. You will miss out on a lot of history that makes the set up and incidents in Fangs for Nothing much more meaningful, and besides... The Fangover is laugh-out-loud, stay-awake-all-night-reading awesome and deserves to be enjoyed! :)
A solid 4 Skull read. I can't wait for the next IMPALERS book!
Fangs for Nothing, The Fangover #2, By Erin McCarthy Grade: C-
“You make me want to be less of an idiot. More respectable. That’s no small feat.”
After their band mate’s wedding Johnny Malone and Drake Hanover wake up in the bride’s dungeon in very compromising positions. Johnny is handcuffed to Lizette, the woman sent from the Vampire Alliance to confirm if he’s alive or dead after faking his own death, while Drake is saved from a sex swing and an alligator by the cater of the wedding Josie Lynn. The four desperately try to find out what happened at the wedding as well as where the missing groom is before his new bride finds out. Add in a band made up of vampires, a dominatrix bride and a gang of Chers and you are in for one big fangover.
To say I was disappointed with this book is a big understatement. I was so excited to read all about the crazy wedding and vampires falling in love and instead I got two stories that are just okay mashed together and one giant case of whiplash. Let me start by saying that Johnny and Lizette’s adventure and Drake and Josie’s adventure happen at the same time and the book jumps back and forth between the two. This makes it almost unbearable to read after a while and was my biggest problem with the book. If the stories had been separate I think I would have enjoyed it much more but every time I got into one couple we jumped to the other and this happens over and over again.
My next biggest problem is that because the there are two stories going on at the same time the couples fall in love in about 24 hours and we don’t really get to know them. What I did learn is that Johnny is an idiot, Lizette needs to have some fun, Drake didn’t really bother me and Josie needed to also have some fun. There were times I liked the characters but they were few and far between and didn’t happen enough to keep me interested.I struggled for over four days to finish this book and by the end I wish that I had given up instead of completing it. Sadly I am done with this series and all of its crazy characters.
Fangs for Nothing is the second book in the Fangover Series by Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love and it starts off with a bang! After going to their band-mate's wedding, Drake and Johnny wake up in a dominatrix's dungeon with no idea what happened the night before. The girls they wake up with, Lizette and Josie also remember nothing from the night before. As the four of them set out to figure out what happened, they realize that the groom Saxon is missing. Along the way they begin to piece together their night as they encounter a gang of Cher drag queens, some hilarious vampires, and a guard pet alligator.
This book was entertaining from page one. I found myself interested the entire time, because there were just so many fun and outrageous things that kept happening! This book is outrageously and laugh out loud hilarious! McCarthy and Love did the perfect job of detailing each and every aspect of this over the top romp through New Orleans and I loved every minute of it...down to the Cat-O-Nine-Tails Bouquets at Saxon and Zelda's wedding and Drakes pirate groomsmen attire!
The chemistry between the couples, Drake and Josie, and Johnny and Lizette was great! The guys were sexy and charming, while the girls were feisty and fun. Even though the story takes place over a very short period of time, I found that the couples were believable and I really was invested in what happened to them. This book was just one of those books you find yourself getting lost in because it is so entertaining that you can't put it down for a second. If you are looking for an entertaining humorous vampire story, you definitely don't want to pass this one up!
2.5 stars = pretty good . Well other than the setup Fangs for Nothing didn't quite end up being the funny read that I was looking for. The immediate aftermath of the setup was probably the funniest part – yes, I admit it is sort of junior high-ish to be amused by a vampire who wakes up in chaps and nothing else and all of the punny lines about the parts of him that were bared to the others who woke up in a Dominatrix’s playroom with no memories of the night ‘before’.
Mostly the story was just cute and it was fun seeing the Impalers again –from the Fangover - and the way the authors wove the two stories together for the morning after a wedding (alternating the two for one romances between ‘dead guy from the previous story's drummer Johnny and the prim Lizette, with guitarist Drake and a human caterer Josey ) instead or treating it like an anthology was a nice idea but there were times where I wished there hadn't been a thread switch to the other couple when things started getting good with one couple - it broke the flow and probably kept me from being as invested in their stories.
As a result this was just pretty good and I couldn't help but think that there are plenty of cheapies out there that are this caliber of story - so I'm am probably to the point in my reading life that I am going to restrict my trade pb priced kindle purchases to my favorite A-list authors - at about half the price I'd have probably had more reasonable expectations for this one.
This was a very fun light summer read. There are two main romances in this book: Johnny & Lizette, and Drake & Josie. Johnny, Drake, and Lizette are all vampires and Josie is a human. I preferred Drake & Josie’s story just because Johnny wasn’t really my type. To his credit, what you see is what you get with Johnny. I also appreciated the fact that he was aware of his personality flaws like his irresponsibility and impulsiveness. That he realizes those things about himself and that by the end of the book he desires to work on himself a bit show his gradual slide toward maturity. It’s also fair to say that Lizette could probably use somebody like him in her life to help balance her out since she’s been so serious, so focused, for so long. Drake & Josie’s story was a little more interesting to me because I liked Drake more, but also because I felt like they were working as a team to try and unravel a mystery. I thought the interactions between the two of them through the story were sweet, sexy, and funny. I enjoyed reading the bits in which the couples found out details about the previous evening from other characters along the way. I was able to get funny visuals in my mind. Overall, a funny vampire mystery romp & great for some summer light reading.
Sooooo very much better than The Fangover part 1!! I felt like this book had the depth of character and plot line that I am more accustomed to in Love's books.
I was laughing, crying, and definitely a bit of cringing through the book. I will say that this book still followed the movie line closer than I would have liked...but at least we got to learn something about the characters this go round. I was a little disappointed that they got drugged AGAIN...but I guess there aren't many reasons for a vampire to black out.
I love that the "wake up" scene took place in a dominatrix dungeon...I mean seriously??
I am going to be painfully honest here and say that I don't usually spend $10 on ebooks...I felt that it was a pretty high price. I was hoping that it would be worth it and make me leave my "freebies" and "cheapos" behind...unfortunately that is not the case. I felt like this book was highly over priced. I feel that the price caused me to have higher expectations that just weren't met...while spoofing The Hangover is cute and funny (and both books had their good points) I felt like the creativity and unique moments that I have come to love from this series just weren't there.
Fangs for nothing was a fun read. I have always enjoyed reading books written by erin mccarthy. This is the follow up story from the Fangover. This story follows two of the band members Drake and Johnny. I really enjoyed the the characters in this book they were a hoot. Drake and Josie were like the girl who wants to say no but the cute guy just wont give up. I loved in this book that Drake and Josie are are at first forced to work together which in the long run helps there relationship grow.
Johnny and Lizzete were a great match as well. Lizzete is following Johnny around because he made a huge mistake in faking his death. Lizzete is there to prove he is faking it or not. At first Johnny is annoyed by her but she starts growing on him.
This book gets interesting when all of them are drugged at Saxons party and the drama that follows. This story really kept my interest and kept me up reading late at night. I highly encourage you to read this book. The only one reccomendation i would have is to read the first book in the series. It would help in understanding the characters a little better.
** I did receive this book as an ARC from the author*******
Hot and hilarious! This book has it all. It tells the story of two single male vampires at their friend and bandmate's wedding. First there is Johnny Malone, drummer and recently deceased. Faking his death was easier then explaining to a former lover that she couldn't be carrying his child. Now the Vampire Alliance has sent a representative to collect his assets. The rep is a French woman, Lizette. Johnny immediately shakes her loose and goes to the wedding of fellow bandmate, Saxon. Only Lizette crashes the wedding and things get blurry from there....
Drake Hanover is the best man at his friends wedding. It should be an honor, but Drake is dressed like a ridiculous pirate. He notices the caterer, Josie Lynn, and decides that he is going to seduce her. Only before he reaches her, he is interrupted by the maid of honor. Making a quick decision to pretend that Josie Lynn is his girlfriend begins the evening that no one will forget. If only they could remember...
This book has everything that you could want, hot sex, vampires, a mystery, and laugh out loud moments. You will not be disappointed.
I absolutely loved this book. If you read Fangover then you will definately Love Fangs for Nothing which is book 2 in this series...
Johnny Malone and Drake Hanover are vampires from the band the Impalers. So when their bandmate,Saxon, gets married to a Domme and like any good friend they are all their to wish them well. Unfortunately everything gets sorta blurry. Like any good wedding right? This book was extremely entertaining and had me wondering how they ended up in the Domme's dungeon... Johnny ends up handcuffed to an official who just happens to work for the agency trying to make his death official and Drake wakes up tied to a sex swing wearing chaps that leave his butt a little cool and the caterer Josie is screaming while she is wearing his shirt. I could not put this book down.
This book is so much fun!! I loved it! Johnny Malone and Drake Hanover are vampires from the band the Impalers. So when their bandmate,Saxon, gets married to a Domme, they are there to wish them well. Unfortunately the reception turns into a blur and they wake up in the Domme's dungeon. Johnny is handcuffed to the official from the agency who is trying to officiate his death. The death he actually faked. Her name is Lizette and she has turned him on since he first laid eyes on her. Drake awakens in ass-less chaps and tied to a sex swing. The caterer, Josie Lynn is wearing his shirt and screaming her head off. I loved the fun as the four of them try to find out what actually happened to their lost night and find the groom who is missing. A very entertaining book!!!
The best part of the book was the very beginning. Seriously, I could not stop laughing at how everyone woke up after the night of being drugged.
If you like your paranormal romance with some humor, you will want to read this book. I highly recommend you read the first though. Otherwise, you will miss out on some of the other favorite Impalers that got their crazy story already.
I highly recommend this book and give it 5 full moons. I want some more Impalers already. I need some of these crazy New Orleans bandmates that keep me laughing at night.
I won a copy of this book on the Fiction Vixen blog. I like Erin McCarthy's books but hadn't read anything by Kathy Love before. This is the second book in a series, but even though I hadn't read the first book, I was easily able to keep up.
What you see is what you get with this book. It makes no pretense about being cheesy PNR (hence the title), and it is full of cheesy goodness! It was a fun, quick read, but ultimately a bit forgettable. I would not have bought this book at the Trade Paperback price, but if the kindle version is on sale and you want a light, fluffy read, this would be a great buy.
This one was new for me...I have never read anything by Kathy Love before and its been a long time since I have read any of Erin's paranormal books...but all I can say is 2 things....1 I don't remember them being this sexy and 2 OMG this book was amazing and kept me interested the whole time. I will say this though I do wish I had read the first book but even if you haven't it's not a problem! This book was great!
An entertaining paranormal story although after the bizarre opening event there was not a lot of action. It was fun following two romances and I liked all the characters but I did get the heroes mixed up sometimes. At their vampire band friends wedding Johnny gets handcuffed to Lizette and caterer Josie ends up wearing Drakes shirt.
Erin McCarthy does it again! This a a FUN book with no hard thinking required! Josie, Drake, Lizette & Johnny are wonderfully fun to follow on their adventures with a weddings, the Vampire Alliance, New Orleans, Drag Queens & Sex Swings! You just never know what is coming next! Great for the beach, lake or any trip.
This book was okay, a bit repetitive of the first book so the reader knows what is coming. It was good to see how the relationships within the Impalers were going but I find' t feel this story grab me and keep my interest like the Fangover did. if there is a third book I'm not sure if I will be wanting to read it. If the storyline is different to the first to books then I may reconsider.
DNF Read to page 70 before calling it quits, which surprised me because I enjoyed McCarthy's Vegas vampires series and Kathy Love's earlier books until What A Demon Wants. Fangs For Nothing is too lighthearted for me.
Well, it has a hot guy looking confuzzled on the cover & that's always a good start. If you are interested in a humorous story about vampires, vampire groupies, dominatrices, thieves, raunchy sex, and a gang of transgender Chers--then this is the book for you!
What a great book! I found myself laughing out loud at every corner. You fall in love with Johnny and Drake in this book and cheer them on as they go after thier lady loves! Pick this one up ASAP!
