This book is the account of Francoise Gilot's life with Pablo Picasso. I thought it was tedious and read like a diary. (We went to this place and visited this person, we had lunch with this person, we stayed in this house, etc.) Not being French, I was not familiar with many of the locations or most of the people and all of the French phrases thrown into the book. Some of the dialogue was very confusing, perhaps because of the translation from French. Having said that, buried in the story was an intimate description of Picasso, his art, his philosophy and his interaction with other people, especially Francoise. Francoise portrayed Picasso as a brilliant but complex, self-absorbed, often ridiculous and nasty man who she lived with, loved and endured for ten years before leaving to become her own person.
