Get Started: Knitting by Susie Johns Wanted to review this book because I am an avid charity knitter and always looking for new patterns and ideas. What a treasure this book is from the very beginning: starts out with the material you will need and all the current up to date needles and yarn weights. Next is how to start with the yarn and various methods are shown with pictures-very easy to understand. Then the basic knit stitch and from there the world is yours to explore. The author keeps things simple but moves along to higher levels of accomplishments and the patterns are easy to follow along. Especially liked the glossary of knitting stitches and how they are done. Most are only a 4 row repeat and the designs can be used in multiple items to knit. Best part of this book to me is the textured stitches and how they are done using a chart, and written out in full directions row by row. This reference books should be in your knitting library.
I received this book from Edelweiss by Penguin Group (USA) Inc.. in exchange for my honest review.
This book gives an excellent starting point to anyone who is new to knitting and wants to learn. It illustrates the basics of knitting starting from which equipment to purchase, how to hold the needles and yarn to how to work complicated stitch patterns.
The book includes quite a few creative projects, stitch patterns, color work and lace patterns. It also teaches the basics of fair-isle and intarsia techniques and charts.
I really recommend this one for anyone who is looking for a new hobby. :)
First I have to say I've been knitting for 10+ years. I picked this book up from the library just to take a look at it because occasionally someone asks me what books I would suggest for beginners in knitting, crocheting, or sewing. I would highly recommend this book. Covers just about everything a beginner needs to know about from needles, yarn, & other materials to knitting basics & more advanced techniques and great pictures too. I will be adding this book to my own library for the stitch glossary.
This is a clearly written instructional book for beginning knitters. It has clearly written directions and helpful pictures. It is fine for adults but is also a good choice for kids. There is a lack of knitting books that appeal to boys but this was a hit with my 11 year old nephew. That makes it a winner as far as I'm concerned.
I recommend this book if you want to teach yourself to knit. The first few chapters will be invaluable; informing you what tools you need to get started, what type of projects to try first, and then it delves into many photos showing you how to cast on, start your stitches, knit rows, cast off. I enjoyed this boom and recommend it if your a beginner. #IndigoEmployee
