Jazz Jasper has her hands full leading her first safari as an independent guide. Two wealthy American businessmen, two hungry reps from an advertising agency, and a beautiful blonde model give her more headaches than she'd ever imagined. But then two of them are killed mysteriously, and Jazz begins to suspect that her first safari may also be her last. But every animal -- even a desperate two-legged one -- leaves a trail, and Jazz, hardly certain whether she is hunter or game, sets about trapping a remorseless human predator.
Plusses: * Main character is an intelligent, adult woman (not ditzy), who runs photo safaris. * Traditional mystery with a great closed set of suspects. * Interesting, unique setting with good descriptions of landscape as well as animals * This is the first of a series of four books set in Africa * Enjoyable read overall
Minuses: * Romantic entanglements between protagonist and two suitors slowed down the story * Didn't notice clues, if there were any
In the first installment of the Jazz Jasper series by Karin McQuillen, Deadly Safari, she introduced us to Jazz Jasper, an American woman who escaped America and a painful divorce to start her own African safari as an indepedemt guide. She met Striker, a pilot, and started a relationship with him. She also made new friends there as well. But two ad reps, two wealthy businessmen and two models all gave her a headache. When two of them ended up killed mysteriously, she feared her first safari might be her last. She went on the case to solve the murders to track down a killer, may be it human or animal, and face this human predator once and for all.
Picked it up based on store recommendation (If you like Sue Grafton, you'll like...). Really enjoyed the mystery tied in with the nature of Africa and the elephants. Wanted more books by this author, not too many out there.
