S.K. Whiteside is a reader, writer, and lover of all things dark and mysterious. She is a Mythic Fiction writer of Contemporary Urban & Historical Fantasy and most of her stories have a background in Egyptian Mythology with a modern day adaptation and unique twist. As an author her art of "teasing" is precise and her character interaction draws you in and makes the story play out like a movie in your mind. This is a talent that now all authors have, nor will they ever have.

Her debut story, "Fallen", was released in part March 2012 as a teaser to "Morbid Seraphic" her annual anthology with Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing. Even though it was only part of the story "Fallen" reached Top Ten status on Amazon sparking interest in Morbid Seraphic which later reached #1 in Amazon for Anthologies. Her follow up short story release "VEXED" was released November 2012. "VEXED" has and continues to be an Amazon Top 100 best selling paid Kindle release in three different countries. It served as the prequel to her debut full novel release "Inheritance". "Inheritance" was released June 1, 2013 and within the first week became an Amazon Top 100 best selling Kindle release in three countries simultaneously and going as high as #2 in Canada for two weeks straight. To date (June 25, 2013) Inheritance (as well as Vexed) maintains Top 100 status in at least two countries each between Canada, Spain, The United Kingdom, and the US interchangeably. While her eBooks are presently only available in Kindle her paperbacks are available worldwide.

When she is not writing S.K. Whiteside is a full time Mental Health Therapist. She began writing in Academia but decided that writing about things on the "other side of the veil" was a lot more interesting. Living in the paranormal capital of the world makes it fairly easy for her to come up with characters, many of which are based on of real personas in her life that can't help but carry over into her writing.

Upcoming Releases: "Thicker Than Water" (A Psychological Thriller), and Blood Born, the growing anticipated follow up to Inheritance.

Vexed by S.K. Whiteside is an interesting story.
It's a new take on an old tale.
It is a refreshing and intriguing read... but it really could do with some work.

Sadly there were more than a few bumps with this story - it lacked reading flow, there was a lack of punctuation, sentences didn't make sense, and the font and font size changed so often it gave me a migraine.

Vexed has plenty of story potential, but it needs some help with the telling, a decent edit and perhaps even some restructuring because it really is all over the place; and for such a short read it took me forever to get through due to the poor formatting alone.

I don't care what I'm reading, bad grammar and messy sentence structuring is going to diminish my reading pleasure and sadly, for me Vexed was riddled with problems making it a dissatisfying read.

This cover roped me in long before I realised that the book covers one of my favourite subjects - ancient Egypt!
As Set plans his evil take over he does not consider the love of a woman!
I loved this short story! The world building leaves the reader tasting the dust of ancient Egypt and makes you feel the heat blanket you!
This is a fast read with a plot that moves at breakneck spead and action that keeps you turning the pages faster than you knew a reading device could.
The author managed to set up the Vamp - Were legend so believably and effortlesly that it intrigued me and left me wanting more. But dont take my word for it. Get your copy and read how an ass-kicking woman can beat down a god!

Vexed is a short story written to introduce us to S.K. Whiteside's Guardians series.

Eerily set up like a Cain and Abel, the book begins with two brothers, sons of the god Ra. Osiris becomes king and god of the Undead. His brother, Set, becomes jealous of what is given to Osiris; rulership, the throne, servants, etc., and devises a way to kill him. By killing his human form and cutting it into pieces, Set is then able to hide away the pieces so that no one of their bloodline is ever able tofree Osiris' spirit and his body.

In order to insure even further that Set will remain ruler, he has Osiris' bloodline terminated and claims his mate, the goddess Isis. Unwilling to yield to Set, he has her abused and sexually assaulted, then imprisoned. Her escape seems impossible until she is set free by an unlikely ally; one who has ulterior motives.

It is now that Set should fear a hostile reclaiming of what he stole and yet, he hunts for Isis. Never underestimate a magical goddess who's husband and family you murdered.

This short story was good. It focused on mythological gods and goddesses and really set the stage for the upcoming full-length novel, Inheritance: The World of Guardians, which has been recently released. There is a vampiracle twist to the mythology that is really interesting. It gives a whole new outlook to the gods and goddesses we have grown up reading about.

There were some inconsistencies that I couldn't overlook in the grand scheme of reviewing, however.

The killing of the children Isis has with Osiris is unclear. At the beginning of the short it says that Set orders the murder anyone of the bloodline that can potentially take the throne. Later in the story Isis indicates that her children are indeed dead (pg. 14) but not four paragraphs later the Scribe states that Set is hunting not only Isis, but her children, too. A couple of lines later, Isis agrees that her children are scattered, hiding. So, at that point in time, are the children dead or hiding?

Also, in the beginning chapter, it is stated that Set is Osiris' younger brother but Set claims on pg. 20 that he's is the oldest (not Osiris) and Set should have been the one claim the throne.

Much of the plot is pretty strong, there were just a couple of puzzling issues.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I am fascinated by Egyptian gods and the history of Egypt in general, so when I was given the opportunity to read a fictionalised story containing Isis, Osiris and Set, I jumped at it!

Isis is a very fascinating character. She is a goddess and an immortal. She has been kept as a prisoner by her brother-in-law, Set. She is understandably bitter and angry, and is out for revenge. She and the other gods also drink blood for extra strength; this seems to be where the myths and legends pertaining to vampires comes from.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a very original story that should have a lot more recognition. However, I did have a slightly negative reaction to it. Revenge may be best served cold, but I'm not an advocate of revenge. I believe an eye for an eye can be more damaging than turning the other cheek. However, it is more easier said than done. I'm not saying that Isis shouldn't feel what she feels, but acting on it is another matter. The flow of the story was excellent, and the tale was interesting enough for me to want to continue reading the series.
It is near the end of the book that things get even more intriguing! I have read an anthology, Morbid Seraphic, with S.K. Whiteside's short story Fallen in it. There is a sneak peek of Fallen at the end of Vexed, which introduces Malachi. He's a fabulous character, who seems to have lost his way. I'm now looking forward to reading the next installment of this series!

S.K. Whiteside has written a fantastic story that is well written and unique. I love her style of writing, which is fast paced and descriptive. I recommend this book if you love YA, Paranormal Romance, Egyptology fiction, Vampires, Goddesses and other mythical supernatural beings. - Lynn Worton

This is a lovely read that kept me glued to my reader from the prologue to the last page. I have not read many myths of the gods and have to say the storytelling was for me surprisingly riveting. I found myself wanting to research more and find out how much was pure fiction and how much was based on the actual myths handed down over time. I love Isis, she was a wonderful character to get to know and I would never want to be on her bad side or the object of her vengeance. The world building was beautiful and in my opinion the entire book very well written. I would recommend Vexed to anyone with an interest in mythology or even if you have shied away from this genre in the past would recommend you have a taste of Vexed. I received this book from the author with a request for my honest review without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book.

This book is definitely a different take on the gods and goddesses ancient Egypt. Felt it was quite an interesting mix of the paranormal and ancient mythology. I feel it flows along well and that it's very fast paced as it kept me turning the pages on my Kindle to find out what was happening next. Could probably read the book in about an hour. Was looking for a short read at the time and this story was recommended, can't say I was disappointed and look to read more from this author.

I thought this book wasn't too bad. Though, I didn't care for the information dumps that the author tended to do. It would loose me. It was different in the fact that it was all about gods and goddesses. I think it has potential, if she could loose the information overloads.
