For William, life was as wicked and malicious as the beast he was trying destroy. Decades spent living a life of extravagance, domination and ravenous hunger haunted him. But when you live forever, the past never stays buried. And that which wishes to control you, will never let you go. William thought he found his escape, his one and only love, but the thing he fears the most could be the only thing that saves them. Or, it could doom them all.
Megan Duncan is a lover of all things paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi and anything just out of the ordinary. She is continually fighting her addiction to chocolate and living in her overactive imagination.
Falling From Eternity is quite different from Megan Duncan's previous work, as well as being different from my usual kind of read, but I've really loved Duncan's other series, so I thought I would give this one a try. And, while I didn't love it as much as her other books, I did enjoy it and found it to be a refreshing reprieve from my usual YA and MG reads.
Falling From Eternity is a paranormal romance that centers on William, a vampire of over 200 years old, as he contemplates his existence. William tries to live a life different from other blood-thirsty and deadly vampires, and he finds himself in a quiet town, working a quiet job. Then he meets the beautiful Autumn and his life suddenly has meaning. But when the unthinkable happens, William must face what he fears most to save everything he loves and wants most.
This is a quick read, feeling more like a novella than full novel, and easily devoured in one setting. With Falling From Eternity, Duncan creates a romance heavy story, but with a good dose of the paranormal. I didn't fall madly in love with the story and characters, but I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
Narrated from William's POV, Falling From Eternity feels very introspective as he struggles with a serious existential crisis. I found much of William's inner monologues and musings to be surprisingly insightful. Duncan touches on emotional and profound questions and thoughts that many vampire books and characters don't, such as the meaning of one's eternal existence or the monotony, instead of excitement, of living forever, amongst other things. This makes for a very thoughtful read, yet, at times, it also makes for a less action-packed and less thrilling story.
This PNR may be more romance than paranormal, but the paranormal elements are great. I really like how refreshing and different these elements are compared to many other vampire books. Duncan's vampires are malicious, blood-thirsty, and deadly creatures that live for blood and power. The idea of being a vampire isn't romanticized or idealized in Falling From Eternity, instead it is explored from a honest and believable perspective. I like the palpable and raw darkness that Duncan creates in this book.
The romantic elements are sweet, but also maintain a certain dark edge. I wasn't enthralled or fully enticed by the romance between William and Autumn, but I think that's because it kind of feels like insta-love. For the most part, I enjoyed the interaction between the two, but the relationship feels rushed and, at times, forced. If fleshed out and developed more slowly, I think this is a romance that I could have felt stronger about. But, I certainly found myself rooting for these two by the end.
The individual characters themselves, William and Autumn, aren't breathtakingly memorable or original, but they both possess their own kind of endearing charm. I would have liked to have gotten to know them better and see them more fully developed, however. I did find myself quite fascinated by the “bad guy”, Ming, though, and I'd love to learn more about him and his history.
The book does conclude with an exciting and surprising ending that I didn't see coming, but definitely liked.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS: Falling From Eternity is a quick, but entertaining and enjoyable paranormal romance. This isn't my favorite of Megan Duncan's work, but I would certainly read more of the series, if she were to write more about William and Autumn (and especially Ming!). I think fans of Duncan's previous work and fans of romance-centric PNR will find this a great read!
I absolutely adore Megan Duncan, she is in my top list of authors. I eagerly snap up each new book written by her and instantly fall in love with the stories. I am still eagerly awaiting the next part of her Agents of Evil series and her Warm Delicacy series. So when I heard she had a new book out I knew I had to be involved. I am so lucky that Megan is such a sweetheart, I feel privileged to be a part of her tour and the first day no less! I got an e-copy of her book to read ready for this tour and I couldn't wait to get stuck in.
At just 100 pages this book is quite short, but boy is it packed with excitement and heart-felt moments. This is Megan's first real 'Love Story' but it has a major Paranormal element in it to keep you hooked.
Basically William hates what he is and how he must live, he tries to deny his beastly tendencies and try to make the best of life. He is about to move away from his current dwelling and find some new pastures, but then he meets Autumn and things begin to change, maybe there is a reason to live after all.
Megan has such a way of writing that it transports you into the story, makes you feel every emotion with the character and dive right into the pages.
I read this quickly and in one sitting and was left desperate for more. There were a few occassions when I guessed what would happen next but I was hardly ever right, this book kept me on my toes and glued to the screen.
A true master of the written word I could read her all day. She deserves so much more recognition than she gets. If you haven't ever read anything by her I implore you to find one and pick it up.
Falling From Eternity is the latest release from Megan Duncan, author of Warm Delicacy series and the Agents of Evil series. Megan did an amazing job, using the voice of a man for this story, and doing it well. William was entirely lovable, the vampire with a heart that was determined to live differently than others of his kind. I was hooked from the very beginning when his soft heart was shown in his grief for Hazel, a resident at the center at which he worked. I loved that warm side of him and it made me keep turning the pages.
It had all the angst and action you could want, but it was also sweetly romantic in a way that I haven't read before. The love story between Autumn and William was slow-building and sweet and led to me bawling like a baby more than once. Their romance made the ending even more of a shocker!
Judging from the end, I am assuming there will be more of William in the future, and I certainly hope there will be. The cliffjanger ending was perfect, just enough of a tease to keep me wanting more! FANTASTIC!
When You’re Stuck When I first read the synopsis of Falling From Eternity, I was instantly intrigued and curious. I have read so many vampire stories over the years and the idea of someone being trapped within the constant misery of their condition really intrigues me. I was curious whether or not this book would be like all the others or if it’ll be something new and exciting. Therefore, I was pleased when I found this book to be entertaining and interesting. I am really looking forward to the release of the next book in this series as I really do want to know what will happen next.
In Eternal Torment When it comes to romance, I am an extremely picky reader. I try not to be, but I just like reading my romance in a particular way, just as others probably do as well. Typically I’m not a fan of the insta-love kind of situation but when it is well written and seems to have a little more depth then what one may think, I definitely enjoy it a lot more. This book could have followed the annoying trend of Twilight where there is no good reason for the main protagonists to fall in love but fortunately this wasn’t the case. There was a sense of insta-love between them but there was also so much more underneath as well. It wasn’t an easy ride for them both and so the relationship felt more realistic to me. There were still a few things that I didn’t particularly like but overall, it was readable and enjoyable and I found myself craving to know what was about to come next. With this part of the narrative working for me, I was glad that the rest came about around it. This book was full of tension and emotion, twists and curves and I can definitely imagine that the next book has a lot more to flesh out, and I’m excited to find it out.
Destined To Be Alone The protagonist of this story, William, was a character that I really appreciated reading about. He had depth, complications and a brilliant voice. I fully understood what he was going through and liked how he dealt with everything throughout the book. It was all really well described and by the end of the point I truly sympathised with him and just wanted to reach out for him and help him. I wanted to be by his side, in a sense. This all leads to a statement that William was a really very well written character.
On the other side, I’m unsure of how I feel about Autumn. I loved her part in the story and the way her character personality was like. I felt like I knew why she was doing what she was doing and could really get to know her in a way that William couldn’t but I just don’t think I personally liked her. She seemed to just get on my nerves for some reason. I have a feeling, however, that with how things ended at the end of the book that this is something that will turn around for me when this story continues at it seems as though she will start to play a bigger part.
Feeling Like A Beast I am always very careful when it comes to reading vampire stories. Having read so many of them already, I struggle to find ones that are different than others and use a different voice. Fortunately, I feel that Falling From Eternity is definitely a book that is different from the generic vampire books out there. It has an interesting plot, a forbidden romance, and something much darker going on underneath that really caught my attention. I also found that the vampires themselves were really interesting and unique with how they dealt with all the “lore” surrounding them. They weren’t just the same old ones, and I found it to be quite refreshing to read how they worked and lived.
How Do You Survive? Overall, this was a book that caught my attention and kept it. I read it quickly because I struggled to put it down and it kept me entertained. It was well-written with good descriptions and really managed to make me emotionally invested in it. I am so curious about how the story will continue and I was truly fascinated by the vampires and the romance in it. This is a book that I would recommend to other young adult readers who love a bit of romance and some good vampires. I feel that those who want a good read and some good entertainment and are good with a light, easy read with a deep story underneath, would really enjoy this book and should pick it up to read immediately.
Falling From Eternity by Megan Duncan was a quick, exciting paranormal read! I haven’t read a good vampire book in a while and I think I was due for one when this book came along!
I liked William as a main character. It is not very often you get to read a book from a male’s point of view and it is even more rare if that particular male is a vampire. I loved getting inside of his head regardless of how sad, heartbreaking, and gloomy his thoughts may have been at certain times. Despite how rough the first few centuries of his life were, William is striving to make himself a better person. The killing, the money, the power, it just wasn’t what he wanted in life. He wanted to find the meaning to it. Why was he a monster? Why was it necessary to do such cruel things to stay alive? Was there a point to all of this? While I found William’s determination and sheer force of will power in staying away from the thing his body craved most to be courageous and noble, I also found his self-loathing to be a bit much by the end of the story. I could tell he was a good person. He was so compassionate about humans in general especially those that he cared for and he sacrificed A LOT to live a life free of harming humans. So I guess it was just a bit too much negativity for me. Aside from that though, I LOVED how Megan portrayed vampires in this novel. There were many similar traits to the traditional vampire but she changed it up just enough to be unique without being overly confusing.
The story starts off rather slow with lots of the self-loathing I was talking about earlier. However, once William meets Autumn, the story picks up the pace and goes through so many twists and turns that I could hardly keep my head straight. Like I said, he was quite the Debbie-Downer through the first part of the book so it was fantastic to see how much he brightened up once Autumn was in the picture! Even though I wanted to love their relationship so very much, I found myself only really liking it. It seemed a bit too insta-love for my personal liking. Once I got over the fact that William’s feelings for Autumn grew rather quickly, I was actually able to appreciate the connection that they shared. William seemed to genuinely love Autumn inside and out and I found it refreshing that they didn’t rush into anything at all. They took the time to really get to know one another before making their relationship official.
I loved the twists and turns that took place in the second half of the book. I really did not see a lot of the bigger plot twists coming and it kept me on my toes! I was constantly wondering if William and Autumn would find their happily ever after. Megan leaves off with quite the little cliff-hanger at the end of the book that has made me all sorts of excited for what I am hoping is a Falling From Eternity sequel!
Falling From Eternity is a quick, entertaining paranormal romance. If you are in the need for good vampire book with just enough twists to keep you guessing, then I suggest giving this one a try!
REVIEW: After reading Megan Duncan’s Released, I was excited to read a paranormal romance after loving the romantic spark she created in her debut series. This is a short story with a male protagonist, which I enjoy reading after following so many female leads.
Falling From Eternity follows William, a sweet and passive vampire who is an outcast to his kind. He would rather not drink from humans and live among them having a “normal” life. After the death of his only human friend, he once again feels that loneliness of his long life. But when a young guest brings life to his work place and his heart, he soon feels that spark again for living. As always being a vampire makes things difficult and Williams past doesn’t like the idea of him being with humans instead of his own kinds. William will do whatever it takes to protect his heart and love.
William is not your normal vampire, living off blood bags and his closest friend is a black cat named Tom. He lives out his days working around death. I thought it was interesting having a vampire work at an elderly home and how he wanted to see what it was like to live out a full life until the end. I kind of felt bad for him, he’s trying to find a reason for his life, and he feels like something missing.
Autumn is a young artist and someone who finally fills in the hole that’s missing in Williams’s life. She has a spark to her and was glad to see it brought a new side out of Will. He was almost a little depressing, so it was good to see a change in his character. Autumn story is quite sad as well and in the end Will has to deal with the consequences of her decision.
Overall this was a cute story, I felt that the romance progressed a little quickly and was almost too cute for a vampire story. I’m also very interested to get more insight into the vampire world that William so badly wants to be away from. Duncan’s writing really connects the readers with her characters and the emotional moments hit all the spots. The ending definitely made me excited for the next installment and to see what challenges lie ahead for Will.
RECOMMENDATION: This is a young adult novel that hits the emotional and sweet side of vampire love. Fans of Amber Argyle’s Witch Song series and Michelle Madow’s Transcended in Time saga will enjoy Falling from Eternity by Megan Duncan.
This was a great enjoyable fairly quick reading book. When I first began reading I wasn’t 100% sure what I was going to be getting myself into aside from thinking it would be a paranormal romance type book. It is that, but it is so much more as well.
The story is told by the point of view of the male main character. That was interesting enough because so often that isn’t the case so it was a nice change and it worked really well. The character was so well developed and the writing so well done, reading the book was like reading his mind with every word. It was just really well written and so much fun to read. There were a few other characters as well the come into play throughout the story and although some have semi small parts and others have good supporting roles, each and every one of them is fully developed and you get the sense that they are truly real people and that you know them well.
The story itself is one that begins in a rather sad way which sets the mood for the book in some ways. The whole book isn’t sad, but it is emotionally charged. It has moments of being very happy, a bit giddy and romantic at times, sad, filled with anger and rage, and there is a darkness about it as well yet also a sweetness. It really has it all. A little something for everyone.
All in all I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. I hope they have a continuing story in future books because it was sad having to say goodbye to them at the end. Great story that I recommend to all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it for everyone to read especially if you like a good love story with some twists :)
So William is a good vampire, who doesn’t want to live a life of savagery for all eternity. I love how you can tell he has a softer side by his feelings towards an elderly lady, Hazel. He really seemed to care for her and mourned her death when she died. It’s so sweet, I love it. This is how the book starts.
William works at the nursing and is really upset when they send another patient into Hazel’s room so quickly after her death. But, little does he know, it will be the best thing for him.
William is surprised to find a young girl, Autumn, in Hazel’s room. Fortunately, William and Autumn take the time to get to know each and find that they like each other. Come to find out Autumn knew Hazel because Hazel took up time with her because Autumn is sick.
Now, William is facing challenges because he is fighting his vampire nature and he fights to save Autumn. Will he be able to help her? How will their relationship turn out? Well….read to find out. It’s worth it :)
P.S. Autumn’s favorite book was Where the Red Fern Grows. I used to love that. I cried every time I read it too.
I've read all of Megan's work and I loved each and every one of them and this one was no different. She took a romance almost like something Nora Roberts or Nicholas Sparks would write and added in a Vampire, which became the almost perfect combination.
As usual Megan's writing is awesome, my only issue is with William. I'm not sure if his character is intentional but he was irritating the way he acted throughout the book. I loved Autumn and all the minor characters (Not Ming, I hated him). William at first was bearable. He was a free vampire with no purpose. But along the way he started reminding me of a woman. I'm not sure if it's because of the way he spoke or thought but he just did! Well, on the bright side, he is good looking.
The plot was good and simple for such a short book and I feel as the series goes on, the depth of it will start to grow and exist. But I'm feel refreshed and I thoroughly enjoyed reading such a sad romance. I cried several times too. I just couldn't help myself.
To sum it all up, though the book was short and found William a tad bit annoying, I loved the writing, the simplicity of the plot and most of all the factor that makes you tear up!
I loved this book because of the constant action. There was never a dull moment, but plenty of times I found my self quickly clicking to turn the page!
The beginning was a little slow, but that is understandable with the amount of information that is needed to set the story. It was so easy to fall in love with the characters of this book! There was a definite focus on the romance between William and Autumn in this book, that I think it just made it all the better!
William learning to live with himself seems to also be a key part to the story. He must come to terms with how he used to live, the monster he used to be. I was so not happy the book ended when it did!!!! Oh well. I can't wait to see how the story may continue! A great short read!
Bloody hell I love this book! Megan has me hooked yet again to her latest work of art.
Falling From Eternity isn't your average vampire love story. Far from it actually! William is a vampire on a mission. His kind call him a disgrace and want him to stop the charade.
Walk in Williams shoes as he tries to find what he's looking for. Experience loss, curiosity, love and heartache as William does.
Megan has a way with words. She made me smile ,definitely tear up and straight out cry. I found it awesomely epic how human she made Williams' character.
Megan continues to fascinate me with her stories and I can't wait to read more about William and his newest mission :)
Falling From Eternity by Megan Duncan is a paranormal romance that will have your heart pounding in your chest throughout the book. It's a short read, but it's packed full of action, love and vampires! And it might just be Duncan's most beautifully written book yet. And the twists and turns will keep you on your toes!
The beginning was a little slow to get going. There was a bit of an information dump in the first few chapters, but after that the story picked up and was quite entertaining. Falling From Eternity, as the title and cover suggest, is more of a romance than anything else, but there is a heavy paranormal element to keep readers intrigued.
The main character, William, is a vampire, the standard drinks-from-a-blood-bag-so-he-can-make-a-new-life-for-himself kind. He's desperate to change his ways, to walk away from his past, from the monster he believes he used to be. William is having a bit of an existential crisis. Wondering why monsters like him are allowed to live forever while the good people who live in Shady Willows, the retirement home he works in, die every day. And then he meets Autumn, the mysterious new resident at Shady Willows.
I felt that the characters could have been given a little more depth. I didn't entirely connect to William or Autumn or their relationship. I wanted them to be together and happy, but I'm not a huge fan of insta-love and that's the kind of relationship William and Autumn have.
If you're a lover of paranormal romance, heavy on the romance, then Falling From Eternity is for you. As I said, it's a short read and I'd recommend it anyone looking for a sweet vampire love story. It's also sure to be a hit with pretty much anyone who's read and loved any of Duncan's other works.
This is what happens when a well executed novella is ruined by trying to make a sequel. Ruined. 1- 182 pages is not a book, let alone even remotely long enough to be worthy of a sequel. 2- pulling the punches at the last minute to leave room for more. Argh. Could have been awesome, but no. The last few pages ruin it. 3- spoiler alert- when you say the book is about a monster- I expect something a little more inventive than a vamp. I don't like books that trick me into thinking they are something their not. It is a vamp book love story. The end. Don't lie and say it is about immortal monsters- cause I expect like spikes or scales or something awesome when I hear monster- not a lamesauce vamp.
Falling From Eternity is a vampire story written from the POV of the dashing vampire. The ending is left open for a possible sequel? It was worth reading once though the swearing I could have done without. Other than that it was a clean read.
For being a vampire book, this is quite good. It isn't anything amazing, but it is easy to read, and a sweet love story. Not too much blood and gore, but enough that I dropped a star. Vampires are not my thing.
