Rate this book
When the dead need to speak, she must listen…

Artist and Egyptologist Lily Evans struggles with her newly discovered psychic talents, while trying to get her life back to normal now that her mother is in a mental institution and the man Lily loves is far away in England. But "normal" is the last thing she finds.

When her best friend Katy takes her to a Celtic Faire, Lily meets a druid fortune-teller, who warns her that she can “never escape the Other.” Frightened and angry, Lily ignores his dire warning and stumbles across an eerie old portrait of a beautiful woman, who has something to tell her.

With the help of the enigmatic druid and his gifted friends, Lily embarks on a dangerous journey to unravel the mysteries of the portrait, the tarot card reader, an ancient book and whispers of witchcraft. She must discover the truth behind them all…or risk losing her very soul.

Fire and Shadow – a second novel in the Lily Evan’s series

Susan McLeod is a very gifted author. She has created two novels in this series that I have read and found it difficult to put down. Her characters are interesting; her plots, fast-paced and intriguing and her writing voice is wonderful. Susan creates complex plots that are woven nicely together and hit the high points of romance, psychic episodes, and paranormal activity including white and dark magic.

Very different than book one of the series. Lily Evans is an Egyptologist, but the storyline in this book is unrelated to Egypt.

Lily had discovered a psychic ability in book one. In this book, she learns where it came from, but the lesson is a hard one - tinged with evil - laced with deception. The resolution takes Lily from fragile to solid in a very swift manner, but sometimes that transformation just clicks into place.

I was hesitant about the 5th star for the reason that it wrapped up a bit quick, but just as quickly my hesitation gave way. Love this series. Want book #3!!!

When I started reading this book, I didn't realize it was the second book in the series. The book referenced the back story from the first book several times and initially I felt a little bit lost. I quickly got into this story and decided that this book is well worth reading without having to pause and find the first book. It can be easily read as a stand alone book if you get past those first references to the other book.

I found the characters intriguing and wanted to keep reading to see what would end up happening with them I enjoyed the mix personalities and felt that they made the story more believable. There is the main character that is has went through some apparently horrible times with her mom trying to kill her, remembering a person's life from thousands of years before, and falling in love with someone other than her boyfriend. This all happened in the first book. This book starts off with her mom being in a insane asylum, her love being in a different country, and her then boyfriend now being an ex-boyfriend.With all that had happened, she has been seeing a therapist and taking pills that help her sleep and represses her psychic ability.

As you well know, psychic abilities never stay suppressed for long. That is where the book starts to really grab you. It all starts with a Druid reading her fortune, escalates when she first sets eyes on a painting of a woman, and really starts to intensify after a group of psychically gifted people get involved. I won't say more about the book, because I don't want to give too much away.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good, paranormal thriller. I was completely surprised by the characters' actions a few times in the story. Whenever I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was almost always mistaken. This was a fun book to read and I look forward to reading others by this author.

FIRE AND SHADOW was about a woman named Lily. Lily was in need of medical assistance ever since she started “seeing” things that were not there. With the help of a doctor and pills, Lily started to feel better. That was until Katy took her to see the psychic Cal. That was when her world started to make sense and go all wrong.

I enjoyed this book because it was a paranormal and psychic book. The story was well written and I enjoyed the characters. Lily needed to learn the strength within her and with the help of friends she was able to accomplish that. I found the characters interesting and enjoyed the story line. A great read especially with Halloween just around the corner.

Lily is drawn to a painting in the gallery where she also shows her paintings. The eyes grab her and feel like they are pulling her in. After the visit with the druid at the fair she is more aware of the pull of the painting. Lily gets involved a group of other Psychics who help her with her ability. She didn't realize how much she wanted to understand what was happening until she started talking to Cal. Now she has gotten herself mixed up in a mystery that maybe not be what it seems.

I like the first book more than this one. I am not going to read the next one. There was just something about it that disturbed me about it toward the end, but I wanted to finish since I had already invested time in most of the story.

I haven’t read the first one in the Lily Evans Mystery Series, but I was given the opportunity to read this one.

I loved it for what it was. It’s a paranormal/psychic book and it follows Lilly Evans, a girl who sees things. Things that others don’t see. She got better with the right medication, but when she met Cal, a psychic everything started to fall into place, make sense and everything just started to happen here.

I loved the main message, that with the help of true friends, and believing in yourself, you can accomplish everything.

This was a really good book. The characters are well developed and the story has a nice flow to it. I will definitely read the first one, and the third.

I enjoyed this Lily Evans mystery as much as the first one. I have to admit I was surprised that Yvette turned out not to be the "bad" guy that I thought she would be. I liked the ancient witch storyline and that Lily had the strength to resist the easy path. I'm still not fond of Stephen I think he takes way too much for granted in his treatment of Lily. If I were her I would ask for my key back. Though I don't think Cleocatra would be happy about that.

It wasn't so bad i couldn't finsh it but some of the characters seemed so paper thin. the Ex doctor guy made it hard to read because he was like a robot wanting to check her phyiscal health allll the time. it would had been nice if the author didn't spell out everything in the frist book so if you started with this one and liked it you could go back and enjoy the other one as well. i got through the book but i wouldn't recomend it.

This cozy mystery has all the elements that I love: Mystery, romance, suspense, humour, archaeology and a super smart cat! Cleocatra is seriously one of the greatest characters ever! There were some twists that were unexpected and it kept me turning the pages. I finished it in two nights because I didn't want to put it down!
