What terrible writing. A very bad example to children. They should not be taught that this is acceptable as writing/story/book. A big fail on the part of literature, I don't know how this was accepted for publishing.

Ella said this. Olivia said this. Ella thought this. Olivia thought that. What rubbish writing.

Miss 7 is enjoying the Ella and Olivia books so much that we picked up a set of the first eight books second hand. The font size and spacing is large and the books are not too long which helps with an early chapter book. She also likes the black and white pictures (which can be coloured in if desired). She thought mixing up salt and sugar was an easy mistake to make when baking and learning to read. Good thing there was a spare cake!

Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

I was surprised switched salt for the sugar and I found it funny. I gave it 3* because the couldn’t fix the cupcakes. The title should’ve been The Birthday Cupcake Catastrophe.
I liked that they were kind and made the the cupcakes for their own Dad’s birthday.
I like how they gave some presents - there were some goggles and a joke book.
The joke book said “What time is it when an elephant sits on your fence? It’s time to get a new fence.”

Poshoglian's Prose #3
Ella and Olivia are two sisters and this is the first of their adventures.
Pretty brief with an obvious plot line, but sure to be a favourite among some of the young.

It is Dad’s birthday. Ella was helping to make the cupcakes. Ella wears an orange dress with white dots.

The title and pictures helped me work out what the story was about. There were hard words like cupboard, signed, lilac, whispered and mixture.
I read this aloud with help from Nan.

Recommended for 6-9 year olds.
