Rayna would do anything for Brady and she has. She's bailed him out of jail. She's healed his bruises and picked him up from parties. She's always been there for him regardless if he had asked or not. But when a potential love interest for Rayna returns to town, their relationship is threatened. Brady has to decide if he's going to make her his or let her go. And when he tries to do the right thing by both of them, neither could've foreseen what secrets their decisions would've exposed. Their small town is soon rocked by controversy and in the midst of it, Rayna and Brady try to figure out if they can be together or not. Show More Show Less
I’m so confused right now. I don’t really now how to rate this book. The story had a lot of ups and downs, but sometimes I felt like I’m constantly getting lost in a maze of details and secrets. I know that in the end, everything turned out to be better and my questions were answered, but I still have that awkward feeling like I’m lost in a maze.
As I've recently become obsessed with Tijan's "Fallen Crest High" (really, seriously, compulsively obsessed, you guys), I wanted to try some of the author's other titles. Truly, I didn't know what to expect when I started this, but she had me hooked by the first paragraph of chapter two.
I really like the sense of unexpected in this book. You have the traditional "best friends who've grown up together who are in love but haven't been able to tell each other yet" (this is also one of my favorite tropes), but the author turns it on its head a bit because the characterizations are unique and unflinchingly real.
The romance is hot and sweet and, as is my style, I loved the soap-y dramatics that threaten our couple.
Classic Tijan with the high school angst and drama, absentee parent/s, a friend that is not a real friend and lots of hot, hot boys.
I love Fallen Crest High and have read it way, way back. Maybe my taste have evolved through time, I cannot tolerate overbearing high school dramas anymore. But still, I enjoyed reading this and now I am waiting for Anti-Stepbrother to come!
I love to do rereads, especially after my mindset has changed over a long period of time. I see what I loved and I also see how “young” I was when I read it before. And also how bias too lol cause Tijan IS one of my favorite authors out here.
So I still really enjoyed it. It was different than some of her other stories, but I see her growth from her Davy series to this. SO MUCH GROWTH. (Thank the Lord Almighty!🙌🏾)
Now here’s what I noticed in this one that I was very annoyed about, with a passion, summed up:
How much does one girl cry so much in a less than one week time?? Seriously half of Rayna’s crying fits weren’t warranted. Also how CLUELESS can one character be? When she’s the literal lead in this book! Like I understand she’s not social, but she’s not a child and she supposedly is good in school, so she ain’t dumb. She’s best friends with Brady, so she has SOME common sense. I am confused with that. I know she got more to her than what I was given.
BUT
I gotta give the author a little credit for Rayna being the clueless, weak link of a character at first then being developed into the stronger, smarter character she became. But why does a one week situation completely change her character?....like this thought alone makes me question if her development was legit. Idk if that makes sense, but it makes sense to me.
Overall I liked the book the second time around. It’s got some meat in it, but also some annoying parts in it as well. But every book does sooooo I won’t decrease my rating THAT much.
4.5 star rating
*Reread April 2020**
This is book is it’s own thing. Yes this is classic Tijan, but this was great in its own way.
The characters were written very well. I absolutely loved how the author wrote them. And the plot I thought was written pretty well too. There was little parts that I thought could have been written better (I will not spoil the book) but overall there was enough drama, twists, and sexual tension to keep me interested.
I kinda liked how the author wasn’t to explicit, but there was still a story and sexual tension. There was still the things that Tijan loves to write, but it had a way of not going overboard. It had a originality that I can’t even explain. Your just going to have to read it to figure it out.
Okay, I think I am adding Tijan to my favorites list, as this is the third book I have read of hers and loved it! I was just telling my book buddy that Tijan's books have a pattern, a brooding hot male, a wise-ass female, a secret and the female closes her hands so tight they draw blood.
Brady is our hot brooding bad boy of this story and Rayna is our kind of smart ass girl. They are best friends, which we all know never works out between a girl and a guy. Rayna is Brady's savior in many ways other than bailing him out of jail. Although Brady and Rayna are different in many ways, they have best friends for years and that friendship is about to be tested. It is a fantastic story and again, Tijan brings you in with her detailed character descriptions and story lines.
I've read a lot of mixed reviews, but from experience Iknow not to trust them all. As I know I enjoy every book I've read from TIJAN so that was easy.
I enjoyed it, maybe not as much as others. I found it a bit sad that Rayna didn't really have much backbone.. In moments she was strong and up for herself but lots of time she didn't know. I also didn't really feel the love from Brady's side that much. Also wanted a bit more of Rayna her mother info and how it all went further and the past. Like everything.
I'm still not really sure how to feel about Clarissa..
I still did get that happy giddy feeling from time to time. It's the talent that Tijan has!!
I really like it , because like all Tijan's books it was very fun to read , and i like the young aproach , the Y.A knd of story but even as i think it was good it would not be a first chice if i had to recomend a Tijan's book , there are others that are waaaaay better , but a good story none the less... I always enjoy her characters
So, this author has a way of writing that is so very different. Brady and Rayna were great characters. Brady and Rayna were Bff but there was that underlying attraction there, which i always love and makes for a great story. It was a very intersting story that had me many times wondering what the big secret was, i had some guesses, but the author keeps you in the dark until shes ready. I would read any book by this author.
Thank you Tijan, for making this free for many of us who stay inside because of the global Covid19 pandemic. I liked the book. It shows that is an earlier work. A little over the place, the characters are not very well rounded. The idea was good though. I can see some future characters of yours inspired by these ones. For all of you Tijan fans out there, this is not her best work but if you need a Tijan fix then this should do.
I love this book so much! I. So glad I bought this book in paperback. The cover sold me,and I knew I had to dive right in.
I love Brady's character he loves his best friend Rayna and he always fought his feelings for her. He is always getting into fights, and going to jail. Rayna is always there to pick up the pieces, and to always be there for him. Rayna also has strong feelings for him as well, but something is against them to be together.
This book is not bad, is just left me with so many questions after was done. Some parts of this book is just plain weird. The book start with the female character given her v- card to her best friend. And afterwards they act like nothing happen. I even went back to make sure I got it right, that it really happened. And from that point on it was just a roller coaster of unease, weird scenes. And at the end I was left with so many questions and complete lost. What about the mother? What happen? What about the Kid or his cousin? What his cousin even doing on the book? Why or what was Kid really angry about it? What about Brady foster parents? What is up with Clarissa? What about the drunk grandparents? Why are they even drunk in the end? What? What? Huh? Just plain weird. What heck is going on with this book?
This book was quite different from the other ones I've read from this author. Things didn't make sense, and Brady was just odd to me and the whole thing with Kid. I could've done without this book.
Hard book to rate. This book falls somewhere between her very YA Fallen Crest High series and her older, more mature (which means college an older, er, but not too old) books. So you get the melodrama but you also get some really engaging characters.
However, I was lost so much throughout this book! I couldn't tell why Brady acted like he did half the time, Rayna was just odd overall (though I confess I felt most like her than in other books I've read because I totally would pick reading books and chilling at home than go to a party with my peers - such a nerd!). Their connection was sweet and yet confusing. There was so much confusion about the mystery and who knows what that I totally lost track.
Where Tijan excelled at is showing (not telling) how these 2 were truly close. You could see they knew each other inside and out and were very open with each other.
Tijan knows how to make me question every little piece of information she slowly leaks. I guessed some things, was blindsided by others. I feel like most of the characters tales are unfinished and I need more from them. Hopefully there will be more from this world.
Counting it as read I made in 80% I love tijans books i own almost every single one but this one just didnt do it for me. Shes still absolutely incredible i just didnt vibe right this time. Not leaving a rating as it's not fair because i didnt finish♡
Another awesome read! I’m not usually a fan of friends to lovers when the hero has had other woman before giving in to his relationship with the heroine, but it seems this author can sway me on anything.
Pretty good... had the teenage angst that I love to see in my guilty pleasures. However, I'm finding a reoccurring theme with Tijan books. I often have a hard time getting what is happening or being said in them. I just sometimes have a hard time understanding what's being related both verbally and non-verbally. It makes me feel kind of stupid, but it's not a problem I've had otherwise. I had a hard time with this in FCH, but not nearly as hard a time as I did here.
Also, I really would have liked a little more background/lead up to their having sex and her losing her virginity. When it happened, it seemed out of left field. One second they're friends, the next second they're kissing, then the next line is her saying she just lost her virginity in her grand parent's backseat. I had to keep going back and rereading the line to confirm whether that actually happened or not and why or how. At the end when he explains why it happened then, I finally understood the why, but I still wish it felt a little less random at the beginning.
I still liked the book, I just didn't love it. But I'm certainly still a Tijan fan!
So there is a film called Clerks by Kevin Smith, i've always loved it but always found it difficult to describe to another person what actually happens and why i like it soo much. Tijan gave me the exact same feeling with this book.
Set over a short period of time in the last days before graduation, Brady is instantly shown to be the bad boy bestfriend who Rayna is forever having to bail out of jail. Alot of the begining is set in the deep hours of the night/early morning which just seems to add to the overall bad boy atmosphere of the story. There is just something about Brady and Rayna that just draws you in and keeps you hooked even when describing a typical night out or day.
I really loved this, i read it in the space of a few short hours and really helped me get out of a mediocre book slump where i just wanted to read something gripping and great.
Oh my, I can't believe I waited so long to read this. Absolutely loved it. Loved Brady so so much, but Rayna, Rayna was just awesome. She was the right mix of innocent, vulnerable, kickass and beautiful. One of my favourite leading ladies. I loved how she just 'got' everything. There was no point when I wanted to scream 'it's so obvious', because she was already one step ahead of the plot. A beautiful coming of age drama, loved the story, loved the characters. So much controversy, so many secrets. Can love conquer all?
Oh my, I’ve been waiting for Brady on audible for what seems like forever, and it did not disappoint. I absolutely loved it. Loved Brady so so much. Narrated by Abby Craden, who nailed it, I couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for the role..
I give this book a 2 star rating, because it was okay. Brady was a hard character to like. He was a party boy who didn't take anything serious. He laughed at inappropriate times and in general I felt he was immature. I had my issues with Rayna also. On a scale of 1 to 10 this book had a 1 in hotness, which surprised me, Tijan usually does better. My biggest problem was the Brady/Clarissa connection. I don't like it when the H has a F-Buddy that he still talks to and has a main role in the storyline. Even though this one did not work for me, I still love Tijan's books and look forward to her next book!!
I don't know why but I couldn't relate to the characters at all. The book was not bad but it was not good for me either. I didn't understand the characters, their conversations and their attitude. I wouldn't say that they did the wrong thing or said the wrong stuffs. I just thought that I didn't really get it... I didn't get them. The overall feeling of the story and the characters were really not too bad. There was nothing annoying or anything... I thought they said or did something and it meant something but it was actually something else. I guessed they were just not the typical type of characters that click to me.
This book was very surprising. I recently read Fallen Crest High by Tijan and, although it was not the best book, it was an awesome guilty pleasure read. I honestly thought this book would be the same and in some ways it was similar to FCH. It had some of the same Gossip Girl vibes, but a little Dawson's Creek thrown in there too. Rayan was a great female character and Brady was a great counter-balance to her. I would recommend this book.
I love Tijan and nearly all her books (did not so much like Jaded, I don't know why but I love Fallen Crest and Carter Reed). Brady is less intense than Mason (but who would top Mason right? Maybe Carter...) but no less cocky. He also is like a lost little boy, more flawed than Tijan's usual male heroes. I loved it.
