गुलमोहर [Gulmohar]

The name suggests the foundation of the stories. This is an exclusive collection of only 8 stories based on some whimsical characters. Every main character in all these stories has one thing in common. In a true sense, they are not whimsical; actually they have set their own doctrines and have stuck to them, no matter whatever happens. In one of the stories, the hero dies just because of his doctrines. The other story is based on the mentality of being lame; it proves that many a times those who are physically disabled are more firm than those who are physically capable of doing everything but have a lame and limp mind. One story is based on the insecurity; here the heroine who had refused someone whom she loved so much comes into contact with him again. She feels that he will blackmail her but fails to understand him, at the end, though very beautiful, her insecure mind shows its ugliness. Each and every story has some splendid felling or other to share with us, to reveal the vastness and the insularity of the mind.

वपुंच लिखाण उत्तमच आहे. अलंकारांनी नटलेल्या पण तरीही साजुक नववधू सारखी त्यांची लेखणी. जवळपास १०-१२ लघूकथेचं संकलन म्हणजे गुलमोहर. आणि तोही बहरलेला, सुंदर आणि अगाध. मला काही कथा फारच आवडल्या. काहींनी निराश ही झाले. उगाच खुप जास्त खेचल्या सारखं वाटलं कथानक.
वपुंची पात्र सखोल असतात आणि कुणी कधी विचार ही करू शकत नाही अशा दैनंदिन जीवनातील छोट्या छोट्या प्रसंगावर फुंकर घालून त्यांच्या कथा साकारलेल्या असतात. निदान एक तरी पात्र प्रोग्रेसिव्ह असतं. मला ते प्रत्येकच पात्र खूप आवडतं. आपण जर त्या पातळीवर विचार करू शकलो तर जग फारच सुंदर होईल.
पण एकंदरीत मनोरंजन आणि वैचारिक समृद्धतेनं बहरलेला गुलमोहर तुम्हाला नक्कीच आवडेल.

गुलमोहराचं झाड केव्हाही छान दिसतं. निळ्या निळ्या आकाशाच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर ते जेवढ्या डौलानं शेंडे वर करून डुलतं, तेवढ्याच श्रीमंतीनं - काळ्याभोर पावसाळी ढगांवरसुद्धा वैभवशाली दिसतं, भव्य वाटतं.
पण दिवाकरपंतांना गुलमोहराचं झाड आता बघवेना. तो त्यांचा पराभव होता, भंग पावलेलं स्वप्न होतं. लाकूडतोड्या झाडावर सरड्याप्रमाणे चढला. वरच्या फांदीवर पहिली कुर्‍हाड बसली आणि त्या पहिल्या घावानं दिवाकरपंतांच्या आख्ख्या भूतकाळातील आठवणींवर तडाखा हाणला. दुसर्‍या घावासरशी त्यांचा भविष्यकाळ नष्ट केला. तिसरा घाव बसला आणि दिवाकरपंतांना प्लॉटचा वर्ष वाढदिवस आठवला. घावाघावागणिक आठवणींचा मोहर झोडपला जात होता. खाली पडणार्‍या फांद्या चुकवीत चुकवीत दिवाकरपंत तांबडी फुलं भराभर वेचत होते. घावावर घाव बसत होते. झाडाची उंची कमी होत होती, दिवाकरपंतांचं स्वप्नही लहान लहान होत होतं.

Gulmohar is set of short stories and it is as beautifully written as his rest works. What I always admired about V. p. Kale was his crystal clear ideology and modern philosophy. His ideas were forward for the era he was living in. How works are like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.

Will recommend everyone to read it.

व पुं च्या प्रतिभासंपन्न लिखाणांपैकी एक बहरलेला कथा संग्रह. अव्यक्त, अनाकलनीय वागण्यातून होणारे समज, गैरसमज यांची संवेदनशील गुंफण सगळ्या कथा वाचताना जाणवते.

Va Pu is one of the finest short-story writer. I simply love how he begins the story and how he weaves it from one incident to another.

The thoughts he expresses from his stories is way ahead of his times. Also, he knows the secret of perfect happy relationships- it can be between two friends, two lovers or maybe with a stranger.

Many people say that if you want to understand a person thoroughly then you have to read Va Pu; and that's quite true. Whenever I read about any new character in his story, at first line only I judge him. But most of the times I'm wrong. Maybe this applies in our real life also. We should not make our judgements about someone unless we know there stories.
