About the author

Julian spent the early part of this life in the city of York where the historical part of this novel takes place and began his working career as a costermonger on York market. This was followed job as a fish salter on Grimsby docks and then a tobacconist in Scarborough and all that before attending York University to become one of its first computer science graduates. After university he went on to a long career in the computer industry, the last ten years of it running his own company. Once they started making computers that worked properly, Julian lost interest and sold his business to become a teacher instead. He taught at schools around the world, including the Lake District, Egypt and Hong Kong before taking early retirement to become a writer. For fifty years, Julian has been an avid student of the inner mysteries of life and privileged to learn from many spiritual teachers. He uses the wisdom he has learned as background material for his novels.

This book was stepping outside the genre I normally like to read but I have to say I loved it. The characters are believable and well developed and it has an interesting and thought-provoking insight in to reincarnation and the afterlife.

The story is of a doctor who through personal trauma has become able to see other people's past lives. Through his eyes and the experiences of people he encounters, a gripping story based on real historical events unfolds. The author weaves the two stories, one of the modern day doctor and one set in medieval York, together brilliantly and I was hooked from the start. Recommended!

A really good read, unusual too. The 'karmic' doctor tries to help people suffering from events that happened centuries ago when they burned the Jews of York in the tower. Julian really brings the historical events to life and the interplay between past and present makes for an interesting mystery.
