TRIUMPH is the true-life story of a girl from a small town who became a world renowned legend. It begins in a time and place where women had few options and sports were a man's world. As a child Kay loved playing basketball, but like many young women of that time she anticipated life as a teacher. Through the encouragement of her parents and employer, she changed her expectations and raised the bar by becoming a successful basketball coach, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, and an Olympic gold coach.
With her many successes there would be even bigger challenges. Her fiercest opponent would become her ongoing battle with breast cancer. Coach Yow faced these trials head on with grace, dignity, and deep faith.
I had the honor of spending time with the author as she worked on this book and was impressed by her depth of research. She verified everything and Kay Yow's family and friends answered every question she had and added those little details that make the story real. Writing it was clearly a labor of love.
I recently had a chance to read the book with fresh eyes. It is a fun and warm tribute to Coach Kay Yow. In short, it is the book I would have written.
Great read brings in many timely topics TITLE IX, BREAST CANCER, SPORTS and FAITH. A very good look at the life of a real role model. This should be made into a movie.
