In a lifestyle of speed, adrenaline and desire, one racer has sacrificed everything for the sport he loved.
In turn, he will fight for his name, his family and now his life to be the legend he’s been portrayed to be.
You can be everything you set out to be if you want it bad enough. You can be that record-breaker you said you’d be. You can be that hero you always thought you would be. You can be a champion. You can be a legend. You can love the same woman your entire life and give everything you got to a sport that gives you happiness. That is, if you want it.
But what happens when you’re standing on the edge of disaster and none of that matters anymore?
Jameson Riley, a racer whose effect on the sport is greater than any statistical contribution, has that talent and the family dedicated to getting him to those legendary levels he has always dreamed of. Just like any long race, their lives have fallen into a comfortable pace making pit stops and adjustments along the way they remain in line with the occasional shuffle. Through it all, Jameson is a driver with a numbing reputation, an imperial manner, and the clout to back it. From his unlikely beginnings in the Pacific Northwest to the blaring spotlight, he’s been challenged on and off the track for the last eighteen years but life is changing for this family. Their children are growing, the family business is soaring and he’s in the peak of his career having won more championships than any other driver in the series.
That’s when tragedy surfaces. A malicious act of revenge will decide the fate of the champion everyone has watched grow from the local dirt track racer to the mystifying greatness he became. One family is forced to look for a miracle. They question the sport, relationships, and the only lifestyle they’ve ever known.
When your life is measured in laps, what happens when the white flag is thrown?

Just downloaded... my heart is pumping so fast in anticipation. I am too scared to read it!!!!!

Update:

Jan 20 2013...

My heart needs a bit of TLC at the moment. the lumps in my throat is slowly clearing and the box of tissues on my bed side table is finally getting cleaned up. It has taken me a few weeks to sum up enough courage to read this book. I am not proud of myself but I read 'reviews' on blogs sites prior to reading this book which scared the living daylights out of me - hence the delay in reading. I am determined NOT to read spoilers again!

There is no doubt in my mind how much I love this book and this series. I feel so much apart of their family that when something happens to hurt them. I hurt. It is sad how invested I am but I can not help it. Shey fleshes out each characters so you are so emotionally attached to them. In many books, the story only revolves around the a few people. This series revolves around the FAMILY. Each member has a story to tell, each has a voice and each will stay with you long after you finish the book.

I devoured this book in one night, fighting the lumps in my throat and the tears dripping onto my ipad. No matter how much my heart breaks, the story NEEDED to go this way. That I understand. The story needed to have an ending and this was a fitting way to do so. There is closure. There is a HEA, but it will take time to understand it.

There were times when I had to close my ipad, walk away and breathe. The tears were not blubbering messy ones, but the single tear on my cheek as I read. I feel their pain and loss.

Let me list the reasons why I love this series so much:

1 - I love the humour and the way it is written in different POV.
2 - even though I am not a NASCAR fan (living in OZ, we have V8s) the analogy to racing does fit into every day scenarios
3 - the family dynamic is crazy (yet so normal!)
4 - the passion for a dream, a destiny is paramount in this book
5 - support from family and friends is prevalent - comes back to the family dynamic. Jameson is the one that inspires them.
6 - the connection, love and affection between Sway and Jameson. As the series progress it was not about HOT sex, but their undying dedication for each other. The save each other and I love this!
7 - This book makes me laugh, cry, swoon and cringe at times.
8- very well written. I love strong characters in any story. I do not like reading a story about a doormat who lets everyone get to them. Sway is strong, and level headed.
9 - I LOVE Jameson - he is articulate, passionate, loyal, dedicated and hot headed (but so swoon worthy) ie: the letter.... yes he will melt the panties off you with that letter!
10 - did I mention I love Jameson!!!!

Finally, forget about the CEO Billionaires, dominant, controlling, arrogant pricks or tattooed, motorbike riding, leather jacket wearing, guitar playing book boyfriends out there....

Jameson will leave them wiping dust of their pretty faces! He is my ultimate book boyfriend/husband!

Keep up the great work Shey, I look forward to reading your next book. If it is anything like the racing on the edge series... I am in for a treat.

Now to read Trading Paint - where it all started.

I am sitting here trying to figure out the words to give this book and the entire series that will do it justice. These 5 books have completely touched my heart in a way that I did not expect.

I grew up watching NASCAR with my dad it was a Sunday ritual in our house. I have attended one NASCAR race in my life and the rush you get from it is unbelievable! After reading this series I will never be able to watch another NASCAR race and not think of Jameson and Sway. They have a love for each other that some of us only dream about. I do believe deep down that there are people who have that one person that completes them heart, body, and soul as Sway and Jameson do for each other. I also believe that not all of us find that but we do find someone to love us as we should be loved.

This last book in the series for me is completely about Jameson and Sway's heart beating as one and how their life comes full circle. I am truly sad to see this series come to end, but I am looking forward to more Riley Family Stories to come.

As for Shey, I say kudos to you girl!! You are at the top of my favorite authors and these books will definitely be on my favorites shelf for a definite re-read. I will recommend all these books to my friends because I believe they can hold a special place in their hearts too. You have gift to tell a story that will forever etch these character in our hearts and for that I THANK YOU!

Oh and one more thing that grass green eyed, rusty hair colored, sexy car part talking, dirty heathen Jameson Riley is at the top of my Book Boyfriend list!! :)

ABSOFREAKING AWESOME!!! LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS ENTIRE SERIES!!!

This series went way beyond anything I imagined it would be....Every single book was amazing starting at book one and it didn't let up throughout the whole series. The love between Sway and Jameson was nothing short of an epic soul mate connection and I cannot express well enough how much I loved watching them realize they were in love, have children, watch their children grow up... then bring in their brothers, sisters, parents, extended family, extended racing family.. I'm miserable that it's over.. just miserable... This series for sure holds the number one spot for me as far as series go.. I'm pretty sure Shey has plans for other books with other members of the team and family and all I can say is please hurry up and get me some more of this because I LOVE IT!! I'm sad to see Sway an Jameson's story be over but I'm definitely looking forward to more about everyone else.

You do not have to know a thing about racing to enjoy this series.. I knew absolutely NOTHING going in but I'm familiar with a lot of racing terms now.... although racing is a huge huge part of this book.. the bigger story is the true love of Sway and Jameson and the rest of their family.. what they go through, how they conquer every obstacle put in front of them.. through heart ache, tragedy, sorry, happiness.. just everything you can imagine. And it all felt so real..

I honestly cannot recommend this series enough....

I was sad and excited at the same time. I am sad, that this is the last book of the Racing on The Edge Series. I was excited because I couldnt wait to read what happens next to the Riley family.

This book was beyond amazing. It couldnt have a better ending.

The legend, brought out many emotions from me. I laughed, I cried, I was happy, I was giddy, I was excited. All the colors of emotion I felt as I read.

Jamerson is 'The Legend'. I love his character. He is one of my favourites. He has many layers of him. Each layer unfolded as the story continued. He is a character that I will never forget.

Sway is incredible. I admire her strength and her loyalty. Shes just a amazing woman, wife, mother.

What I love most of this book, was Jamerson and Sway love story. It is one of a kind. It is so unique and special, I felt it. It was what kept me reading it. They were a team, a fucking fantastic team. I loved them together. I couldnt get enough of it.

The plotline was awesome. There were twists, and there were parts that were emotional. Then, there were parts I laughed so hard. I loved the pranks, the humour, the togetherness of the family and all the racing.
I wish it didnt end, but every story needs a ending.

Lastly, the writing was perfect. I embraced each word. Its hard for a author to convey words to a reader, but I felt each word of this beautiful story.
I adored every character. The alternate POV, I enjoyed.

Shey you are a brilliant writer. You are a talented storyteller. I want to thank you for sharing this racing family with us. I will never forget this series. It will be one of my favourites. Fantastic work. I cant wait to read more of your upcoming books.

So, so depressed that this series is over. I going to miss the crazy Riley family and I'm so glad I gave a series about NASCAR a chance. Was this series perfect? No,
but I was so engrossed in Jameson and Sway's life, I could easily overlook the flaws. Thank you Shey Stahl for creating a beautiful, life long , love story.

The final book of Sway & Jameson's story. This book tugged on my heartstrings. I don't think a book has made me cry so much. I can't wait to continue reading what books follow about the Riley family and those around them.

meet jameson, sway and the fabulous family that is the rileys.

ok.... let me start by saying that i absolutely love this series. love it!!! and a reread is definately in my future. i love sports, but i did not know a lick about NASCAR, sprint cars, dirt tracks, roll bars, aprons or midgets before i read these books. And it was not something i ever thought i would enjoy reading about! wow.... was i wrong. who knew align boring and micropolishing could be so much fun! lol :) the car talk was fun and i loved the banter and comradery between all of these characters. the relationships shey stahl built in this series were beautiful, fun, and genuine. it was nice to see cultivated relationships between, parents, children, family and friends in addition to the main love story. outside relationships affect people and their private lives. ms. stahl did not ignore that all of the people who are part of your daily life during your lifetime have an impact on the person you become. the relationship between jameson and sway. sigh.... jameson riley. a cocky, moody, obnoxious and rude at times, hot head who you cannot help but fall in love with. i can't not smile when i think of this character. it is so hard to write a review on this book without spoilers. I am in love with the way he loved her. and the way she loved him was unconditional. simply put... they got each other. and ms. stahl did a wonderful job of making their love so freaking real! their unspoken words, subtle touches, inside jokes, their pure understanding and respect for each other... it was beautiful. this book, book 5 in the series, ended perfectly. i will say, i laughed a lot, but i cried more. i read the 2nd half of this book with my hand over my mouth and a lump in my throat afraid of what was going to happen. i loved these people as if they were my friends and i wished i could just hug them. and... i loved casten! the shenanigans, "hobbies", pranks... if he was my son i would kick his arse! that being said, he was quite the character and i really enjoyed him. all their children were good people with huge hearts, mama wizard and her dirty heathen done good! :) I had so many favorite quotes in this book... i was highlighting my kindle like crazy! do yourself a favor and read this series. Like I said, meet jameson, sway and the fabulous family that is the rileys.

“I began to understand that my life was measured in moments. There were moments that tested you, challenged you, and moments that could make you fall to your fucking knees, begging for one more moment but you see, those moments defined you as a person. You need to take them as they come because before you know it, you're out of moments.”

I just can't say enough how much I loved this series!! 5++++ STARS

With camshafts and crankcases, align boring and micro polishing, race lingo, love, passion, destiny, hope, loss, victory....it was cleverly written, addictive, and I'm already missing the journey you're on when you read these books.

It was fantastic to read through a series, where you not only get to see the full journey, you feel like you experience it as a person within this family. As the family grows, you fall deeper in love with them, and feel all of the emotions they feel...go through all of the things they do. Jameson and Sways kids.....dear LORD! LOL...I love them all so much for different reasons, but I'd have to say Casten is my favorite...a ladies man at 15, smartass, clever, outspoken, and out for the fun in life. I loved reading about all the things Jameson and Sway went through with them as parents. The talks between these family members was AWESOME! I just can't rave enough about these books. I want more, but I know the journey is over and was so happy with the way things played out. The prologue of this book had my heart in my throat, and it broke my heart when it happened...but I understand why it did.

And Jamesons letter....tears and swooning and envy over here. What a life Jameson and Sway created, and you got to live vicariously through them. YES it is a story about a race car driver, but it is SO much more than that...it's about passion, family, love, best friends, determination, setbacks, loss, lust, sex, going after your dream at all costs, and making them come true. Thank you Shey Stahl for giving us these characters and letting us feel what they did.

I'm such a mess right now. Oh my god... but definitely in a good way! Shey Stahl seriously is now holding the title for a favorite author of a series I have EVER read.

In the Racing on the Edge series, you follow Jameson and Sway (which have the coolest names!) on their journey from best friends, to friends with benefits, to lovers, and finally to husband and wife and the greatest love story ever told in racing.

In the Legend, the final book of Sway and Jameson's story, you suffer so much pain and sadness but SO MUCH more laughter and love! The Riley family is all so funny and wonderful. From Emma and Aidan and their asshole sons, to Spencer (who had me bursting up in giggles more times then I can count) and Alley, to Jimi (tear) and Nancy.

In the Legend, Jimi has always been the glue that holds the Riley Family together and when Jimi can no longer hold on to that torch, it is passed to Jameson and he has to be the glue like his father was before him.

I am so sad these books are over. (At least Jameson and Sway's story) I had one hell of a ride reading them. They are by far my favorite series ever and quiet honestly could definitely be my favorite books period! I am going to die a Shey Stahl fan that is for certain. :) Goodbye Riley Family, until we meet again.

This series has been the best! I have praised them since Happy Hour and through to the last book The Legend. Shey you have written amazing books that have had me captivated, laughing, crying and amazed. I have connected with each and every character. You stayed true to them thru each book, which i absolutely loved and am very thankful. If these were a tv series or movie I would be in heaven. Sway and Jameson were written so wonderfully, and they were a true love story of soul mates, that were quirky, foul mouthed, dirty engine talking, wacked out parents! But extremely loyal and hard working. Their kids are all of them combined with an extra dose of bad ass! All the pranks pulled were all epic, thanks for all the laughs. I have loved every book and thank you for being so intested in your readers and our journey thru your stories. It has made it even more fun to read. I'll be keeping in touch, you know racing season isnt far off :)

There are no words for this book. I felt like I went on a journey with this family. Their ups and downs, birth of babies, and the deaths of their loved ones

The prelude literally tore my heart out. When you finally get to the point in the story, you just know that it's going to be bad. Even having been preparing myself for someone to die, I still wasn't ready. It literally tore my heart out, and left me feeling like I just lost part of my family myself.

Some quotes from this book that literally left me in tears.

“The hurt teaches us that we have a lot to be thankful for. There are moments that are happening around us that we take for granted”

Other quotes made me laugh out loud

“If you can’t be a good example for today’s youth, be a horrible one. Either way, you’re helping out”

This book was devoured just like the rest in the series. Stahl is an excellent writer. You don't have to be a NASCAR fan to love these books. Although, you might become one. :)

Well how can I out into words what this book was..... It felt so real, it was amazing. Sway and Jameson love like no other, they are one together, they are true beautiful love. In the module of the book it was heartbreaking, I sobbed for hours and still get tearful now thinking of it, it was so beautifully written that became so real, this book had it all, love, passion, loss, heartbreak, laughter, happiness and much more. The whole Riley family is what family is about and should be. Casten stood out so much in this book, he was the light. I loved the moments when spencer and Emma had their time with Jameson, it was special. Axel grew into a wonderful man as well as all the others. This series will forever be ones of the bests. Thank you for writing such real emotion and a wonderful story. This will be recommended to everyone's speak to and will always be remembered. Utterly beautiful

As much as I don't want to share Jameson, I just have this urge to tell everyone how amazing he is and how, equally, if not more, amazing Jameson's and Sway's journey is. I normally don't write reviews for books no matter how much I love them but this series absolutely deserves the attention.

Now, I've read and swooned over a bunch of male characters as well. Such as Christian Grey, Travis Maddox, Kellan Kyle, Will Cooper, Evan Matthews, Dean Holder, Jude Ryder, just to name a few. And while Christian Grey and Travis Maddox were always at the top of my list, after much deliberation Jameson Riley comes out on top-no question about it.

While most of the books I've read involve a love story between the characters, all with different story lines as to why they fell in love; some even continued into series. But one thing remained the same with them and I love them none-the-less but they all ended in epilogues.

Shey Stahl did something entirely different from all the authors I've read from. She did in fact write a love story, an epic love story at that. But it wasn't just a story- it was a journey and that's what I loved most about it. She started out with how Jameson and Sway fell in love and continued writing their story as they got older throughout the five books. You see and feel their love progress throughout the series, now its not sweet sailing from the beginning. They go through all the trials and tribulations with themselves and the pressure from Jameson's career. But one thing that remains the same and intense as it will always be for each other is the love they have for each other.

"you are where my heart belongs" -Jameson, Happy Hour

"for ten years I wondered why this girl owned me the way she did. When I thought of myself, I thought of Sway and always would...For the first time in my life, I wanted to tell someone I loved them, and she was my best friend. I didn't love her as a best friend either, no, it was so much more than that. It was the kind of love that you felt in your bones; deep blinding love." -Jameson, Trading Paint

"you connect the missing pieces of my life together. I promise to always be there for you, no matter what happens. I promise that if you're sad, I will make you laugh. I promise that you'll never walk alone; I'll stand by your side. Through our brightest days and the darkest nights, I give you my heart and I give you my soul." -Jameson, Black Flag

"through everything, this woman has been there for me and so many times I'd taken this for granted how just these arms can take me back to where I belonged." -Jameson, The Champion

"I looked at Sway for encouragement before speaking and she smiled that breathtaking smile she had. In that instant, our whole lives flashed in front of me and reminded me of the bond that we had and why she was such a vital part of this decision...for over thirty years, this woman owned me; of course I would look to her for answers." -Jameson, The Legend"

Stahl does an amazing job in writing an epic love story, filled with happiness, disappointment, humor, complications, disagreements. But in the end its all about an epic love story.

Beautiful ending for a beautiful series. Took me the whole weekend to read this series, because I honestly could not stop reading them! So sad it's over. I won't lie, Shey Stahl has a gift in turning readers who are just about clueless at anything related to sports aka. me and turning us into sport lovers! She did this with hockey and now with cars. Because seriously, I HAVE NO CLUE what any car terms mean, but she really helped draw readers into the racing lingo and helped us feel like we were "in the know" rather than us floundering around wondering what the hell a character just said, or missing the punch lines of some very "dirty" ;) jokes.

I'll admit I was at first was not that keen to read the books because, let's face it, the covers leave a lot to be desired, but when I saw some reviews and the high ratings it got, added with the fact they were written by Shey Stahl I couldn't resist!

The characters in this series were the most endearing and loveable characters I have read in a long time. I loved that they stories did not just focus around the main two characters (as much as I loved them) but followed along the love lives of the friends and family around them.. And let me just say the side characters are JUST as good to read about as the main characters.. which is very rare of a book series to enrapture! But this one certainly did!

It's no secret I love books where best friend growing up become lovers, and this was no mistake. I LOVED that this book had no distasteful drama but that isn't to say there was carloads of drama in this series.. because trust me it just kept coming, but it was drama you love to follow!

Sway and Jameson Riley, has been officially added to my all time favourite couples, and if you want to find out why I suggest you take a leap of faith and read these books!

Get out your highlighter, there are some great one-liners in this book!!
Clearly better written than the rest of the series, this book was to me the roller coaster ride part of the Riley family life. It took me days to finish the book, not because the book is super long but because it took me a while to absorb what this book made me feel. I can tell you, I wanted to punch the villain, cry for the champion, laugh hysterically with the family and just watch the kaleidoscope of characters within. It is not often a book takes over my life like this, but I think for those that have read these books and seen the sheer dedication of this author to her story, i think it deserves to be a story to savor. Also there are some zingers in this book... that for sheer entertainment kept me going even when I was sad or angry with what was going on in the story.
My only criticism at the end of it, was once again the repetition, albeit with good grammar and spelling.......and the slight sense of smugness between Shay and Jameson. The story which was often told through the thoughts of one or the other, came across as smug when they spoke of their great love, it may not have been intentional but to me it seems that if their love was indeed great, they should spend less time explaining it through their internal dialogue. As a reader, i got it, it was my discovery to make and savor not necessarily something to be pointed out to me all the time.

The fifth book in the Racing on the Edge series, this certainly doesn't disappoint! If you haven't read the previous 4 books, you really should, I can't recommend them highly enough. Set with a backdrop in the NASCAR racing world (which is totally enthralling), the story continues to follow the lives of the two main characters; Sway and Jameson Riley. Now in their 40's, we get to appreciate how their relationship has gone from strength to strength with their connection as strong as ever.

We also get to enjoy their kids becoming adults and I am really looking forward to future Racing on the Edge books promising to tell their stories.

Whilst there is plenty of laugh out loud humour in The Legend, there is also tragedy that tests the limits of the Riley family and leaves you wondering how they can ever come back from that.

But at it's heart, this is a love story between two wonderful characters, Sway and Jameson who are just downright funny, sexy and totally awesome!

Review for books #4 and #5 :
Because i loved 'Happy Hour' i ought to myshelf to read the following books. And my opinion for this one and the 'The Legend' is not the best i hoped.
First of all, both gave me the feeling i read the same events took place over and over.It became boring and mostly i was reading the chapters in a fast forward mode.Second, i think some of the characters and actions were TOO much!Too much irrational, too much surreal(especially the first half of 'The Legend'). A lot things that just didn't make sense to me and only pissed me of.
The reason for my rate is that the 1/3 of each book was GREAT!Unfortunately, the other 1/3 was unnecessary and the other 1/3 was just, bad.
But i will always remember 'Happy Hour' and the main characters fondly and for the same reason when a new book of the series comes out i will read it.

I love this book, these characters, and the story of their lives. It's told with such a passion for the love and the sport that holds them all together. The Legend was a perfect ending to a fantastic series. I'm so glad I read these books. The Riley Family has become my absolute favorite cast of characters. The love, passion, and craziness that defined them was not only entertaining to read but inspiring. Reading the love and dedication of family woven throughout this story is awesome. And of course, one only dreams of a love as true and epic as that of Jameson and Sway. They are perfect. Their connection is inspiring. The Racing on the Edge series is an epic love story!

I love Jameson and Sway's story. This final installment did not lack the passion and love we have come to expect from these two. What I love about Shey's writing is I am right there with her characters as they are going through their ups and downs. I can "feel" every emotion and that's what I want when reading a book. I laughed and cried right along with the Riley family. I have loved getting to know the Riley's and loved the comic relieve that Casten brought to this book. This story ended on a high note for me, and I am hoping we will see more of the Riley's perhaps from Casten's POV.

I absolutely cannot recommend this series enough. The characters in these books will always have a place in my heart. I'm not sure if I could love Jameson and Sway more, but I DO! Their love story is epic. Their families and friends are amazing. I want to live in this world, know them and love them! None of them are perfect and that is all for the better. Did I mention I love these books?? ♡♥♡♥♡

I don't know why but this book is taking me the longest to read in the whole series. Up until now, I would read each book in less than five days and this one has taken me a month and a half to get through 30%. It's not bad, I'm just not sure why I can't get into it as much.

I am so sad that Sway and Jameson's story end. The Riley family makes me laugh and I can't wait to read more from the POV of the next generation.

Beautiful, breathtaking, emotional...so it ends the story of the Riley family. I loved it, I loved them all, it's like saying goodbye to your friends. !0 stars for me

Love this series!

This was an amazing series! I truly loved all of these characters and love the sense of family this story represents. Sway and Jameson and characters that will stay with you for a long after the story ends. I still get excited about the first book in the series and the prequel!!

I love the Rileys story even after reading the series multiple times I still find myself pulled into the racing world and seeing their story unfold as if I was there in person, i cannot wait to continue reading their stories and hope for new ones to come soon. Amazing. I feel like I was part of the Riley family. So sad this journey is done. This series made me laugh out loud and while reading late at night cry. I can't recommend this series enough. Now I feel like I'm qualified to watch a NASCAR as well ❤️Well done Ms. Shahl. Well done.

Oh the tears! This book will have you crying your heart out! It hits hard on the topics that at any moment our drivers could have a fatal crash. One wrong move on the dirt and it could all be over. This is something in racing we all always know but don’t like to think about.
