The book you see on your screen is one of the great Christian classics of the twentieth century. If you will look at the lives of men and women whom God has profoundly transformed throughout history, you will discover that God always uses the same truths. It is these very truths which Huegel presents in this book. Bone of His Bone has deeply affected the lives of tens of thousands of Christians in the twentieth century. Huegel covers material here that has been neglected in today's Christian community. How often do we hear the message of oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ? How often do we hear the message of the cross as it works in the Christian's life? Huegel points us to a life that is participation in Christ rather than imitation of Christ. He reveals to us that the cross and Christian growth are inseparable. Bone of His Bone, like so many great books, has virtually disappeared from Christian literature because the language became archaic to today's readers. It is the privilege of SeedSowers Publishing House to present this edited and modernized version of a great piece of Christian literature, making the paramount message of Huegel's book once more available to today's Christian audience.
This is an absolute read for Christians as most Christians only "incorporate" Jesus into their lives by simply trying to imitate him. We must go beyond into what the Scriptures teach about actually participating with His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, reigning and suffering.
The layout and language of this book make it challenging to read, but so worth the extra effort. It's a paradigm shifting book that has changed my thinking and enhanced my faith walk with Jesus. John 3:16 has new depth as I was set up to dig deeper in to how it is normally translated. Little words make a big difference.
"To be a Christian one dare not adopt any exaggerated views of nationalism." Times change. "We are positively to hate ourselves - not to pamper, nor to caress, nor to seek, nor to love ourselves, but literally to hate and to renounce our own selves, and that daily." Positively?
I got "Bone of His Bone" by F.J. Huegel as a gift from a colleague. I wanted to honor the gift by taking my time reading and really paying attention. I found the book ridiculously boring. I understand, based on the back cover, that The Seedsowers Publishers extensively edited the book to make it more accessible. But even with their editing the book is not cohesive of very approachable. I am able to find very little in terms of conversation on the internet about this book and no one I know has ever heard of it or the author which makes the claim "Bone of His Bone has deeply affected the lives of tens of thousands of Christians in the twentieth century" a little suspect to me. I'd say there are may well know and well respected Christian writers from every century. I wouldn't waste my time on this book again. That being said if God uses it to reach people, if he's used it to reach you, that's awesome.
a christians life need not be an effort to imitate Christ but to allow Christ to live through us. It's not what would Jesus do?..... but what does he do through us. We were crucifed with him, buried with him, resurrected with him and he now lives in us.
This book was foundational in my understanding of the link between my work and Christ's power to work in me. It should be basic reading material for Christians. The language is slightly dated, but not so much as to hinder the deep insights of Huegel.
Our oneness with Christ is discussed in detail. This is the meat and potatoes of the Gospel. If you want to know what God did in Christ and how it affects every believer, this is it...
What an excellent book. I find these older authors to be so much richer. It's a book I'll read again, full if biblical truth and exhortation to live a crucified life in Him.
