Sardine de l'espace #7-8

Sardine in Outer Space 4 by Guibert, Emmanuel (2007) Paperback

Rate this book
Sardine is back, and she's got a whole host of new problems to face even before the spaceship Huckleberry can get off the ground! In the fourth volume of this exciting series, Sardine must tackle, among other things, monsters under the bed, flesh-eating tattoos, time machines, and even boredom. As always, Supermuscleman, Chief Executive Dictator of the Universe, lurks in the background, trying—unsuccessfully and incompetently—to make Sardine and her crew behave.

Emmanuel Guibert has written a great many graphic novels for readers young and old, among them the Sardine in Outer Space series and The Professor’s Daughter with Joann Sfar.

In 1994, a chance encounter with an American World War II veteran named Alan Cope marked the beginning of a deep friendship and the birth of a great biographical epic.

Another of Guibert's recent works is The Photographer. Showered with awards, translated around the world and soon to come from First Second books, it relates a Doctors Without Borders mission in 1980’s Afghanistan through the eyes of a great reporter, the late Didier Lefèvre.

Guibert lives in Paris with his wife and daughter.

Like a 3.5, really. Still fun, but maybe not so raucous as the earliest books? Or maybe I've been spoiled.

Sardine in Outer Space 4 is is another cute collection of stories about a space-traveling girl and her friends.

One of my favorites was when they became teenagers and Little Louie wants to kiss Sardine. Well, she sure puts him in his place. And my favorite surprise was when they went to The Inferno which looked a lot like Hell might with flame, heat, torture and a devil. But what made it so cool (get it . . . cool, as in not hot) was that the main entrance is guarded by Hellboy (of course his name was never used). But we all know it was him (see Graphic Novel Page above).

This collection of Sardine stories is the best yet. Supermuscleman and Doc Krok were not in this book as much as previous books, which opened up the stories to so many other villains and such.

Overall, Sardine in Outer Space 4 is a great addition to an already pretty awesome series. I can safely say that kids will enjoy reading these books, as I can attest to at the middle school I work at. They really love them.

I rated this book an 8½ out of 10.

I give it four stars, I wouldn't give it five stars because it is not Sardine 5. But I'm going to give each Sardine its number. And I really it so that's as much as I can do. My favorite character is Little Louie because he has a skull and crossbones on his shirt. My favorite bad guy is Supermuscleman in his old outfit, I miss him in his old outfit.

I am so not the audience for this book. It has a goofy, juvenile humor that I just didn't really find amusing. On the other hand, I actually like Captain Underpants, which is also juvenile and goofy.

This graphic novels series is new to me, I look forward to recommending this series to kids who are Wimpy Kid fans. This series is funny, filled with action and adventure, and great characters! Kids are going to love the unfolding stories in this series.

I give it four stars because it's not awesome but it's pretty good. My favorite character is Sardine because I love girls and she's a girl. I enjoyed reading it, that's all, bye bye.

Finally, an explanation for why Uncle Yellowshoulder's tattoos keep changing! The crew travels through time, visits Hell, and helps the author get over his writer's block.
