I came to know that this "book" is finally available in India only yesterday, when a firestorm broke over it in one of the reading groups I am part of on FB. It was banned in India, mostly for the same reasons that Mein Kampf is banned in Germany: it is the voice of a villain from the political past, which may find rapport with like-minded people awaiting to go astray. This argument is absolute bollocks and the banning of the book was a political act - and it was reversed, too, as a political act, IMO. Godse had been a member of the RSS, and even though the party disowned him after the murder, there is a group of the extreme Hindu right-wingers who still consider him as some sort of incarnation who got rid of the evil Mahatma: and the Hindu Right is extremely influential in the corridors of power right now.

This is the statement Nathuram Godse made in court during his trial for the murder of Gandhi. It was rumoured to be extremely eloquent and influential: the presiding judge reportedly said that if the audience were the jury, they would have acquitted Godse. So after such a compelling testimonial, I was all agog to read it, to understand the irrefutable arguments why the murder of an old man was essential for the preservation of India and Hinduism. Well, folks, I must tell you it turned out to be one damp squib.

Mind you, had Godse entitled this "Why I oppose Gandhi" and used it as an electioneering pamphlet, I would have some points of agreement with him and many more on which I could understand his point of view even if I didn't agree. However, as justification for murder, one cannot accept any kind of eloquence.

Gandhi was a bit of a weirdo and highly impractical in some of his views, this much I can agree with him. The remaining arguments, about India being a Hindu nation and the idea of Muslims are invaders and killers, directly derived from Savarkar's Hindutva, I can understand if not sympathise. Nathuram was a dyed-in-the-wool Hindu nationalist, the likes of who are very common in India today, and his arguments are all familiar: Muslims are alien to our country and violent, Gandhi gifted India to the Muslims through his appeasement, he allowed the British and Jinnah to partition the country...etc, etc. These are the standard arguments of the saffron brigade even today, and it is based on their flawed reading and deliberate political falsification of history. Reading this statement, one can understand how Godse had been brainwashed into pinpointing Gandhi as the devil incarnate and marking him worthy of elimination.

And it is this penchant of the extremists for physically removing the objects of their ire that is unacceptable. Godse uses examples from Hindu myth to show that violence is a regrettable necessity sometimes, and Gandhi's doctrine of ahimsa is basically flawed. Sadly, I hear the same arguments used in modern-day India through the strident voices of the extreme Hindu Right.

Godse is still alive in India, it seems - while Gandhi has been long buried.

From August 1946 to more than a year, Mahatma Gandhi travelled all over Bengal, including Naokhali, going from home after home, pleading Hindus as well as Muslims to not kill each other & trying to pacify the situation. Due to his efforts, Bengal suffered a lot less harm than expected at the dawn of freedom thus, making East Pakistan and later on Bangladesh an ally of India. What happened in Bengal was indeed a miracle. But at the same time, Punjab had started burning leading Gandhi to immediately head west towards Punjab only to stop by delhi in order to address the concerns of Hindus & Muslims.

On February 8 or 9, he was supposed to arrive in Pakistan to ensure the protection of minorities there and ask those who had fled to India to return to their homes. Strikingly, nor the ganges nor his fragile old age nor the hostile communities who had stoop to the level of killing and raping each other, could stop him from spreading his peace message even in Pakistan until his last breath. On 30th Jan, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by a proud Hindu & patriotic Indian - Nathuram Godse on his way to the morning prayer. Had Mahatma lived longer he could have been able to replicate in Punjab what he did in Bengal..!! It is but a wishful thinking, Pakistan might not have been as hostile a country as it is now. Maybe. Maybe not. But there was a possibility.

In the book “Why I assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, that’s the Gandhi.

Now let’s get to “I” - Nathuram Godse. Godse was born in a devotional Brahmin family who actively worked for the eradication of untouchability and the equality of all Hindus (Hindus). He believed it was his duty to serve Hindus (Hindus). Let me tell you a very parallel story - Jinnah was born in a devotional Muslim family who actively worked for the equality of all Muslims (Muslims). He believed it was his duty to serve Muslims (Muslims). .

On one hand, there was Mahatma who saved more human lives than any of the so called “Hindu” or “Muslim” activists ever did. And then was Godse who boasts of his profound love for Hinduism and Hindus but nothing of other minorities.

"Does it take one to be Hindu to love Hindus, to be a Muslim to feel for Muslims, to be a woman to fight female infanticide, to be a Black to fight racism?"

While reading this book, I was sure that it was wrong to ban this book in the very first place, that too for so long. I mean, anyone can see that Godse was filled with hatred towards a significant population. How can someone spewing hatred from his heart influence any sane person? But the shocker - ratings on this site are heartbreaking and reviews show minimal to no research and critical thinking done on the part of reviewer to arrive at the conclusion. What does it reflect on our education system. How come we failed so drastically to teach our own history to youth, how come it’s so misguided & deluded about our founding fathers? Till the date, history is just a chronological study of what happened when, results will be mere disappointments.

In the end, I need to borrow a line from Nandkishore Verma’s great review - "Godse is still alive in India, it seems - while Gandhi has been long buried".

This book was finally published after the court intervened. It gives a great insight into the way Godse thought and the events leading to the assasination. A good read for anyone who wants to know more about the historical background and the socio cultural context of the incident

I've never been an ardent kangana ranaut supporter but one statement of hers that I wholeheartedly agree with is,“Either you are a Gandhi fan or Netaji supporter You can’t be both… Choose and decide.”

They both had completely different ideologies, so one of them was definitely in the wrong. Over time, I've come to decide that it was M K Gandhi who was not as good as our history books make him appear to be.
This statement of Nathuram Godse ji emphasized what I already believed.

Gandhian policies would have led India to certain destruction. All non violence and civil disobedience would have accomplished is india breaking into several pieces i.e. apart from India and Pakistan, Pakistan's existence is definitely thanks to Gandhi. By now half of India would have become Pakistan and half of it China because we obviously wouldn't have partaken in a war of any sorts.
I don't know how Gandhi bhakts think India could've attained immense success had Gandhi been alive, if by success they mean the lack of a country called India then I completely agree because that is what would've happened.

Why I killed Gandhi is a very short read. It is the original statement made by Nathuram Godse ji in court after the assassination. There's nothing much to review but there are a few very strong passages that I'd like to include here.

I could never conceive that an armed resistance to an aggression is unjust. I would consider it a religious and moral duty to resist and, if possible, to overpower such an enemy by use of force. [In the Ramayana] Rama killed Ravana in a tumultuous fight and relieved Sita. [In the Mahabharata] Krishna killed Kansa to end his wickedness; and Arjuna had to fight and slay quite a number of his friends and relations including the revered Bhishma because the latter was on the side of the aggressor. It is my firm belief that in dubbing Rama, Krishna and Arjuna as guilty of violence, the Mahatma betrayed a total ignorance of the springs of human action.

In more recent history, it was the heroic fight put up by Chhatrapati Shivaji that first checked and eventually destroyed the Muslim tyranny in India. It was absolutely essentially for Shivaji to overpower and kill an aggressive Afzal Khan, failing which he would have lost his own life. In condemning history's towering warriors like Shivaji, Rana Pratap and Guru Gobind Singh as misguided patriots, Gandhiji has merely exposed his self-conceit. He was, paradoxical as it may appear, a violent pacifist who brought untold calamities on the country in the name of truth and non-violence, while Rana Pratap, Shivaji and the Guru will remain enshrined in the hearts of their country men for ever for the freedom they brought to them.

The movement might succeed or fail, it might bring untold disaster and political reverses but that could make no difference to the Mahatma's infallibility. 'A Satyagrahi can never fail' was his formula for declaring his own infallibility and nobody except himself knew what a Satyagrahi is. Thus, the Mahatma became the judge and jury in his own cause.

In the beginning of his career in India, Gandhi gave a great impetus to Hindi but as he found that the Muslims did not like it, he became a champion of what is called Hindustani. Everybody in India knows that there is no language called Hindustani; it has no grammar; it has no vocabulary. It is a mere dialect, it is spoken, but not written. It is a bastard tongue and cross-breed between Hindi and Urdu, and not even the Mahatma's sophistry could make it popular. But in his desire to please the Muslims he insisted that Hindustani alone should be the national language of India. His blind followers, of course, supported him and the so-called hybrid language began to be used. The charm and purity of the Hindi language was to be
prostituted to please the Muslims. All his experiments were at the expense of the Hindus.

One of the conditions imposed by Gandhi for his breaking of the fast unto death related to the mosques in Delhi occupied by the Hindu refugees. But when Hindus in Pakistan were subjected to violent attacks he did not so much as utter a single word to protest and censure the Pakistan Government or the Muslims concerned.

Gandhi is being referred to as the Father of the Nation. But if that is so, he had failed his paternal duty in as much as he has acted very treacherously to the nation by his consenting to the partitioning of it. I stoutly maintain that Gandhi has failed in his duty. He has proved to be the Father of Pakistan.

I bear no ill will towards anyone individually but I do say that I had no respect for the present government owing to their policy which was unfairly favourable towards the Muslims. But at the same time I could clearly see that the policy was entirely sure to the presence of Gandhi.

I know that lots of people are going to percieve these staments as antimuslim but these are not antimuslim. This is what was true then and remains to be true today. In the name of equality minority communities have always got benefits be it caste or relegion but equality is not when you priortise the minority relegion over the majority relegion equality is when both
the minority and majority relegion get equal importance. But what I've noticed is that more often than not its the hindus who get targetted for having certain relegious practices, for believing in certain things and sometimes, for believing in the relegion itself and the people who do this promote islam and give the muslims no slack even though they've got practices that they actually need to be called out for!

Do you ever see any of these 'equality promoters' saying anything against muslim practices where the man is allowed to have more than one wife? No.
Do you ever see them say anything against the mass slaughter of goats on eid? No
Do you ever see them say anything against marriage after attainment of puberty being legal amongst Muslims? No.
Do you ever see anyone stopping christians from bursting crackers on christmas or new year? No.
Do you ever see them berating Hindus for bursting crackers on diwali? For playing with water on holi? Yes, every year.

This is not equality. This is appeasement of minorities in the name of equality. This is exactly what Gandhi started and Godse tried to stop, yet Godse is the one who recieves ill wishes and criticism and 'Gandhiji' gets to be called the father of the nation.

This is a book that needs to be read by everyone regardless of their opinion on Gandhi.

Rtc
Nathuram Godse saved the nation. Period.
And I'd love to know more about him and MK Gandhi's assassination.

That's really worth reading.

I don't know why this book was banned. If this would haven't banned then every Indian would have knew about the ill-mentality of Gandhi of keeping him before nation. This work from the accused of Gandhi's assassination deeply cleared the reason for why he should have done that.

The time when every sort of Indian trying to get rid of British rule in India, this Bluff-master kept trying his ill instincts to rule the country rather than helping to let us be a free nation. In the name of Hindu-Muslim unity, Gandhi deceived every Indian no matter from which class, caste, creed, religion they were. Nathuram along with Nana Apte gave final touch to his frustration that was summing up for so long due to the scenario that Gandhi created in the country.
If he was really old then why he didn't ask for any young boy to help him move rather than young girls, this shows how pervert he was. Since, 1914 till his death, not a single time was that when he got succeed in his mission which he showed he was on. Apart from going on fasting he did nothing. And, that also for his own sake & not the nation. How much he was jealous of Netaji was also depicted in the book precisely. If he would have really supported Netaji Bose, we would have won much earlier. But he and his supporters including Nehru did all for saving their own thrones post independence. Even the vivisection of nation had been done & that also because of him, but even then didn't stopped. Matter was not of supporting one religion and exploiting other, but its how he managed well enough to let the people fight for unnecessary reason that led them nowhere but hell.
Women were raped, children were killed, whole dynasty of most of the families did extinct in civil riots but he was saving his ass in the Birla house, British donation to one of the many Indian Sycophants. Whole reality that was given the form of Book by Gopal Godse, shows imaginary views of united, undivided and happy India thatwe would have been the part of; only if this single person was not the part of Indian History, pre-independence.

Sir GD Khosla's words that were taken from his book, to include as a part in this book, on the case of Gandhi assassination cleared very well the thoughts of viewers who actually heard Nathuram Godse during case hearing. No man of good honor and happy family could do such kind of act, killing someone. The reasons were clear why Nathuram took this huge step of killing some renowned person of the then time. In his own words, he said that he kept country over some single living figure.

The book is really impressing and showcasing the real scenario of the time that we most of present citizens of India are unaware of.

Nation first, then I.
Salute to INDIA.

Sad that no Indian gets to learn this side of the story

It is very unfortunate that as citizens of India we do not get the opportunity to listen to the other side. Indian history was written by Congress and therefore there is no room given to anything that is against them. Current day politics is still on the same lines. Minority appeasement should stop for a just society to emerge.

Goodness! This's really a good book. It's written in an abstractedly manner. Founding a solution out of the absurd situation they had. Regardless of the action NATHURAM GODES had done, how anyone could have handled GANDHI dictatorship?
Putting GANDHI'S down was a fair way to eliminate his vivisection to many Indians in that past time.

Before picking this book:
I'm well aware how naïve I can be and its pretty easy to brainwash me. However, whatever be the reasons, killing someone for a difference of opinion is not at all acceptable. Holding a ban on the publication of his statement may not be only for a political reason, albeit to suppress encouraging these kind of violent thoughts.

After reading:
This is a must read. Brainwash or no brainwash, should be left upto the individual to decide. However, the statements presented by Nathuram Godse are very detailed and give a clear insight on his intentions. It was a well thought execution, with full awareness of its consequences. He has addressed Gandhiji with respect in spite of having major difference in opinion. He did try to hold peaceful protests against the Gandhian notion. Going for a fast and twisting the arm of government body, thereby crippling democracy may be termed as non-violence, but this act hindering prevention of mass massacre is by no means non-violent!

Overall:
As the old and wise adage goes: there is no absolute truth. It is always your truth and my truth.
Disturbed to realize quiet a lot of quintessential history data has been treated like this.

Verdict:
Must read!

P.S.: This was my secret santa gift (thx Guttu) couple of years ago. Should have picked it up earlier :)

I have been very critical of Gandhiji's supremacy over Indian Politics in last 3 decades of undivided / non-independent India.
His failure of all three movements he either started or participated is well known. His pro-Muslim and anti-Hindu philosophy is what is the basis of today's so called Seculars (Sick-ulars).
I'm not anti-Muslims but rather than looking into problems on both sides, history has the occasions when he knowingly looked away from atrocities being levied on Hindus in particular.

The flawed Gandhian principal is still in existence. This is what is destroying idea of India. India is plural, I have always accepted this as a fact and I'm proud of it. But idea of India says, 'all are equal, be it of any community', 'no special favors to any community' and 'development of everyone equally'.

Nathuram proves this point in his statement to the court.

This book is too much relevant in today's India esp. for the new Khaki Kurta or Kurti or Saree wearing NGO Activists with combed hair or lipstick shouting for secularism without knowing true essence and meaning of this word.

It’s our history which was not told to us. We deserve to know our history as it was and not the changed version. We were taught in our schools that Godse was a bad man as he killed him. Why we were never told why he killed Gandhi? Let the people decide whether he was right or wrong.
For several years these writings or statements were under ban. People should know about the killing.

“The press carried portions of the statement the next day. Both the intelligent class and mass which were kept in dark came to know of the stand of Godse. They also came to know that he had not denied the charge of assassinating Gandhi. Jawarharlal Nehru was the prime minister of India at that time. On his directions, state after state banned the publication of his statement, in part or in full. After hearing the statement of Godse. No sooner the judges returned to their chambers, the police pounced on the press reporters, snatched their note books and tore them into pieces. They threatened the persons of true reporting”.

Banning or hiding the portions of history is no solution.

Just remember there are always two sides to every story. And most the time no one is completely innocent. Just don't ever second guess it. Most of us knew only one sided truth but if someone wants to discover another side, this is the book.

I was enlightened by the information provided in this book. I am not against Gandhi but undoubtedly blinded by his ideology of non-violence he made many large mistakes which has been deliberately hidden from public knowledge. Read this book to know the other side of story.

Readers should read this book to know the reality. Don’t listen to others what they say. Read this book to educate yourself. You are the one who decide not others. Form your own opinion after reading this book. Everyone should read it, not just Indians.

One more thing there is 9 pages kindle version of this book, don't read that one. Entire statement is more than 120 pages. So buy that one which has around 200 pages.

This book should be beyond review. It’s not a cooked up story to provide merits and demerits to it.

But this book is a must for every Indian to understand the divide in the society, wherein lies the seed of the divide. The statements of Godse makes you think harder on how History was twisted, modified and suppressed!

It is high time to declassify many documents from Indian history and modern Indian history be re-written.

My grandparents are home. My granddad picked up this book and was surprised that it was available. He said this was a banned book and people possessing it in his time were punished. I said the freedom of speech act facilitated this. He said our country has come a long way.

Indian history has been illustrated by the Congress so far (winners write history. Isn't it?) But this is a RSS view of the events. Gandhiji was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on 30.01.1948 at Birla House. The incident spread like wildfire and Radio had arrived for the first time in our state and the news was delivered. People were shocked. Riots swept Mumbai (then Bombay). Newspapers all over published the same.

What views I supported in the book-
Gandhiji though right in his teachings of ' Ahimsa' didn't see it through completely at times. His desperation to unite Hindu-Muslim community only drove them further apart fuelled largly by the British too. I'm not an extremist Hindu but I do think Gandhiji should have stood by Bhagat Singh and co and shouldn't have sent them to the gallows. His opposition to Bose was a power play that drove Bose to get help from the Japanese. Also I have found the "Hey Ram" supposedly uttered by Gandhiji to be tad dramtic. After 3 point blank shots, I doubt anybody can utter comprehensible words. Letting the British drag Indians to ww1 and ww2 even if it wasn't our war and we really needed to focus on our freedom strategies was something I didn't support.

What I didn't like - Statements about making India a hindutva nation. No sir, secular please. I still fancy my cake at Christmas and Biryani at Id. The partition in view of the mass murders and loots was a correct decision in my point of view to bring peace. Losing lives to just keep something whole isn't worth it.
Godse was discarded by RSS after the assassination. But nothing that Godse said, justifies committing a murder. Godse was found mentally sane and was executed in November, 1949 in Ambala.

Now, the decision to read or not read this banned book lies solely on the person. Do you want to carry an untarnished version of Gandhiji? Then don't. These are just views. I as a person will be considered good by some and bad by some. It's all subjective. Nevertheless as educated people, we need to be aware of our history as a whole from all points but still not be blood thirsty extremists. Thin line really.

I took a long time to finish such a thin book. Sometimes I needed to sit with a marker to highlight facts.
While no violence can be defended least of all, that of Gandhi. But it can't be denied that Nathuram put his case very logically. It also affirmed what I always felt: that Gandhi was not very democratic in his approach. All kinds of satyagraha and fast unto death are manipulative and blackmail. I felt similarly in the recent Anna Hazare case too.
Ironically, had Nathuram not killed him, Gandhi would have lost his credibility within a couple of years as he was not unbiased in his approach not only for communities but also for persons as was seen in the case of Subhash Chandra Bose.

History always have different point of views. As long as the reader do not try to understand the different point of views the understanding of history Will remain incomplete .
Till now we have been studying Indian history thorough the eyes of leftist historians and Gandhian stalwarts while the tide is changing and the saffron brigade is taking over. So both ways we are at a loss as a student of history. The only way to reach a better conclusion is by trying to bring out the gems from both the sides of the divide

For me as a student Nadhuram Vinayak Godse has always been the black villian who shot the pure hearted Mahatma Gandhi who lost his life for the freedom of all of us. But as time went on contrasting thoughts about The Mahatma started coming out... some believable like the egoistic personality of the person who is Gandhi, to the might be paedophile , which the chance being really low.
What ever be as I started to understand the Mahatma being not so pure, did I decide to understand more of the his contrast, "Nadhuram" .
This book contains the events of 30TH Jan 1948, The accused ,the events of the trial and Godse's defence of his deeds. All these has been combined by the co accused , Nadhurams brother Gopal Godse.
The events and the trial is well documented. We get a glimpse of the Man Nadhuram and how and why he decided to kill Gandhiji. The long list of Gandhijis pro Muslim stands and all those culminating in the vivisection of the land of India which is the single most important event in the mind of him which made him decide on eliminating the Man . Well what ever be , his decision to eliminate Gandhiji can never be accepted as sane, but at least some of the points which he puts forward seems to be genuine
This book I suggest for all those who want to understand the history of India and I pray those who decide to read approach the book with a clear mindset

The very easy task is to differentiate between good and bad, malevolent and benevolent but differentiate between the two goods is quite difficult. Same thing is happening here both are very intellectual persons so you could not decide who is wrong because both have their own valid issues.
As far as my concern I totally condemn the assassination, there are many ways to express your views. Nathuram Vinayak Godse did dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi at Birla Temple and he did not gave any response to him(Mahatma Gandhi was paying his attention only for one community at that time and totally he was biased for them as mentioned in the book), he should continue his protest, dharna, satayagrah whatever until the Mahatma Gandhi being well aware from his thought. HE has their own reasons which cannot be ignored specially when the INDIA needs the unity in our society and if these things were happening, was unfortunate for INDIA but still he had to be more patient.

To start off,my interest in this book was generated by social media and Hindu proproganda. But this book contains Godse' s statements and never glorifies him(but tries not to point a finger on someone more important). The thing I learnt is extreme non violence is also violence.Lastly Godse didn't do the right thing and the book is more of a propoganda literature. It takes one day to become a Godse but one life is less to understand Gandhi.I hereby change my rating and edit my review on the eve of 154th birthday of father of our nation.

There's much commotion these days of books being banned and such. While this is not a book in the true sense of the word (it is a statement by Nathuram Godse, given in court as he stood accused of assassinating Mahatma Gandhi), it is perhaps one of the earliest documents that was banned by the government, from being published. (The ban was lifted in 1968).

It has been converted to a book form by his younger brother, who was also imprisoned as a co-conspirator for abetment and was imprisoned for life (released in 1964 after serving 16 years). While the statement of Nathuram Godse is the meat of the book — 102 of the 208 pages — has now been released with context, by his brother, Gopal Godse.

Like most medium-sized Indian publications, the book suffers heavily from a lack of editorial and design intervention. All the more unfortunate for this specific and critical episode in our history. Needless to say, the controversial nature of the content, even after six decades, is perhaps the reason why no major publisher in India will ever seek to acquire such a title. It, then, automatically falls to the small-and-medium sized publishers.I'd like to congratulate Farsight Publishers for that.

Irrespective of your own beliefs of the role, contribution, and the impact of various leaders in the Indian Freedom Struggle, this book is worth a read. That this man assassinated the most popular figure in the history of Indian independence cannot be a reason not to read the book; in fact it is the reason, why this book needs to be read. The statement by Nathuram Godse is an articulate statement of his reason. And this being a court record, there is little scope for a fiction-creep, and perhaps, therefore, less easy to dismiss as fiction.

It matters less whether your reasons are right or wrong, and which prism they are viewed from. It matters more how convinced you are in your purpose and how well you can rationally defend and articulate that purpose. Nathuram Godse did that with great skill and art.

For that one reason, at least, this is a definite read.

I guess 5 stars isn't enough :))
They told us who killed MK Gandhi (Also mentioning his caste), But they banned the statement of Nathuram Godse. Why? FOE?
The same people kept us away from our glorious history,Why?

While this is not a book in the true sense of the word (it is a statement by Nathuram Godse, given in court as he stood accused of assassinating Mahatma Gandhi). After the ban was lifted by the Bombay High Court in 1968.

Later converted to a book, With Nathuram Godse's statement reproduced by his brother Gopal Godse' (who was also imprisoned as a co-conspirator for abetment and was imprisoned for life, released in 1964 after serving 16 years) with Justice G.D. Khosla's Memoirs.

This book is not about the moral policing, judgement of action or a personality demeaning book towards Gandhi. It doesn't matter whether the reasons are right or wrong, and which prism they are viewed from. It matters more how convinced you are in your purpose and how well you can rationally defend and articulate that purpose.

Mk Gandhi was the reason for quite a few atrocious things that India went through.
I would not dwell much upon this sensitive topic, but this book is definitely a must read in order to know a clearer history of independence of India.

Yet The Question still remains, Who shot the fourth bullet?

Every Indian who faces the discriminatory politics of Congress , should read this !

Totally Justified Explanation by Nathuram Godse on why Mahatma Gandhi needed to be assassinated.

The Pseudo Gandhian of India may think it otherwise, but the truth remains that he was killed due to his own ambitions !!!

This is just not a book though, but the statement by Godse himself, why he felt the need to assassinate Gandhi. The book was banned , due to the liberal policy of IN-Congress , so they could hide their face behind their lame cowardly policies of dividing a country , for the sake of remaining in Power !!

Is the killing of gandhi by godse is justifiable?
I dont think violence is the answer for everything. However, is gandhi biased passiveness is justifiable?
No,We should never forgive gandhi for his irrational expierement at the expense of hindhu.
I remember reading Osho commentary on Gandhi non violence attitude, He says " Gandhi non violence was expensive for hindhu".
If you have read enough history or atleast watched " Kashmiri files" , You would have realized the openly ignored Hindhus genocide for last 800 years by congress backed historians and blind secular Hindhus. Imagine how many genocide are ignored just to dance for the tantrum of violent pacifist like gandhi in that era. His nonviolence dictatorship led to the genocide of the people who loved and followed him to the end. He was still blind to the practicality and foolish enough to see the pains of dying Hindhus.

Do i support the killing of Gandhi by godse?
No..
But he should have been hanged legally for all the atrocities he committed through his passive dictatorship.

Why I Killed Gandhi offers a provocative and chilling insight into one of modern history’s most infamous assassinations. The author attempts to peel back layers of political ideology, personal conviction, and societal tensions that culminated in this tragic event. The book sheds light on the assassin’s mindset, offering a perspective that is rarely explored in mainstream narratives.

While the political context is compelling and the exploration of ideological clashes is thought-provoking, the book sometimes struggles to balance factual analysis with the emotional weight of the subject. Certain sections feel overly biased or lack sufficient historical nuance, which might leave readers craving a more balanced and in-depth examination.

Despite these flaws, Why I Killed Gandhi stimulates important conversations about political extremism, nationalism, and the complex forces that drive such acts. I’m giving it 3 stars for its bold approach and relevance, though it doesn’t fully satisfy as a comprehensive political study

Thanks to the wonderful review of Shantala, I decided to read this book. Since it was a 10 page long ebook, I breezed through it within 10 mins. It was powerful but had nothing new that I didn’t already know. I knew why Gandhi was killed and why division of the country was a really bad move. We are still suffering from the consequences of dividing a country based on religion. Religion should never be the deciding factor for making any kind of political decision. But what I did not know were the other reasons behind his assassination. It was not just the division that provoked Godse. Would we get freedom through violence and without Gandhi’s non violence movement? I am not sure as we were not successful for 100 yrs through violence. But WWII happened which weakened British so could we succeed with just violence? I am not sure.
Do read this book if you are curious like me.

This book contains Godse's very eloquent, compelling and heartfelt statement in court, followed by a description of events that happened before and after the judgment.
Having earlier read about Gandhi and the freedom movement only in history books- this book provides a slightly different view of India's struggle for freedom and how every freedom fighter had a different way in mind to achieve it. Gandhi's principle of non-violence seems impractical and I sympathize with Godse's views as well. The description of Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte's last few days in prison tell us about the strength and resolve of his soul.

The 90% of the book is based on Nathuram’s confession statement given in court where he explained why and what he did.

With my puny knowledge on history and experience in the matter it would not be appropriate to judge whether Nathuram’s action was justified or not.

At many instances during the read indeed I felt that what he was correct and I also felt vice versa at other instances in the book.

I do agree with the statement that creating Pakistan was a failure of Ghandi’s political and social carrier and he must have had stopped interfering in the government functioning then. His double standards on various things related to a specific religion was also not good. He should have made decisions based on what is right and what is wrong instead of always favouring minorities.

I truly feel that this all religious thing was and is like poison which has caused millions of death and will surely be responsible for total end (Armageddon). When did everyone will understand that religion and god are man made stories and fantasies created to give moral support to people in their low & down time. People can be different due to their beliefs and rituals but different doesn’t mean evil.

The plot and matter is indeed very important and holds a great significance in the history but the they way the whole book is written does not justify the same.

It could have been far better but indeed it is very knowledgeable for anyone looking for pure details and facts without any dramatic presentation of the history.

You must read if to know facts and see other side of story instead of believing views imposed on you.

Maybe time has justified his acts. But where is the line? Just so to save one if you kill another, does that make the act morally right? Or to save many. Allegedly too many.
Maybe he did really deserve it. There were certainly some mistakes on the part of Gandhiji.
And maybe, just maybe, the death he got became more glorified than what time would have granted him otherwise.
Nathuram gives his reasoning for the assassination. The reasoning seems well formed. The argument pretty solid.
The book gives a good account of the whole incident and all the accused involved with some extra information. The version was poorly edited.
And after reading, a lot more can still be learned about the assassination. The morality of it, of course, depends on what you already know and how much you weigh logic with respect to fundamental moral truths.
4 stars for the official statement of Godse.
