I thought Ms Dewees is a fantastic book writer. I would have to agree this is better than book one. A great paranormal romance with so many hurdles to jump. I took one star off due to the big cliffhanger. Her writing alone would make me seek out the next book. 4 stars.

I was given this book as a gift for an honest review.

WOW!!! much better than the first, and leaves a huge cliffhanger that has me ready to beg for book 3! Truly addictive series that had me up all night and not even wanting to put my kindle down long enough to cook dinner. Ended up cooking while reading, and anyone who wanted to talk to me had to wait until the chapter was over. Awesome storyline and cant wait to read more. Not your every day paranormal romance, very original and not at all cliche!

I’M IN AWE of the magnitude of story telling of Amanda DeWees.

*takes a deep breath* For the record I confess that I’m addicted to “The Ash Grove Chronicles”

Firstly I would like to give a HUGE thank you to Author Amanda DeWees for the opportunity to read for review this amazing series of hers!!!! THANK YOU

And here I go again as I immerse myself into book 2, Casting Shadows in The Ash Grove Chronicles. I absolutely loved “The Shadow and the Rose”, thinking that it couldn’t get any better. But boy was I wrong in a big way. I’m completely floored by the high level of this storyline that I found within “Casting Shadows”!!! it just feels so wrong when I say “book 2 - Casting Shadows” has surpassed book 1 - The Shadow and the Rose, its even better….. Now how can this be?

Amanda continues the precarious love story of Tanner and Joy, their characters have developed and grown with so much emotion. Tanner has come so far, yet still struggles with his “unloved past”, but Joy is with him all the way as we get to see his mind work through it all from his past as well as the future that lies between the two of them … oh wait, baby makes three J

The tidal wave of events are astounding, as you are hit by one wave after the next. Gripping mysteries of supernatural forces will leave you stunned, turning in every which direction or way that your mind can go.
Trying to figure out what’s coming at you next!! But not once have I been able to see what’s coming.

Maddie and William’s off the wall friendship has become romance - WTG William!! Woot Woot.

The epic storytelling of Amanda DeWees is outrageously amazing, to be gifted with this beautiful ability to captivate, and hold a reader to the point of longing for more, and not wanting the book to end for me is a true sign of an immensely talented author…. And behold we have Amanda DeWees.
We find so much heart breaking young love that is full of paranormal spine tingling events that keep racing across and throughout the story from the beginning to the end.

Come join my favorite characters as their journey, trails and tribulations continue, then meet a couple of new ones as I do too. You will love them all, well I can think of two that are on my black list!!!! Grrr, >.<

THE ASH GROVE CHRONICLES:
The Shadow and the Rose
Casting Shadows
Among the Shadows

I’ll see you on the other side of my angel cloud, once I fly down from “Among the Shadows”… Happy Reading.

Recommend: YA and up (possible discretion)
Rating: 5/5 angel stars

After the first pages, I realized that this isn’t an ordinary book. The characters were well developed and the rolls they played were very true to life. You can identify with the characters easily, especially with Joy. Amanda DeWees did an amazing job with this book and from my point of view, her writing it’s classy.
The book starts with sixteen year old Joy Summer, who is a student at the academy Ash Grove. Joy’s mother passed when she was just a little girl, and leaving her with her father who is taking a leave of absence from his teaching job to fight cancer. Joy is struggling to find her own way in life, not really wanting to follow her mothers footsteps in piano, but knowing she doesn’t have the physical attractiveness to become an actress she is searching for a purpose in life. After accepting a dare from one of the school bullies, she finds Tanner in the cemetery. He is very attractive, but he claims he is dead. All she went in for was a wild rose from the grave of the founder of the school. But now she has a purpose in life, she found it, and she is going to fight for it.
Joy and Tanner find the mysterious rose garden and their lives take on a whole new meaning for each of them. The only way for those two to have a future is for him to leave the devil behind, but there is a problem. She has something to hold on him that no one understands or knows about. Joy is going to have to figure out this puzzle and break that hold that is keeping Tanner prisoner. With the old school being built on the belief of mystical powers and protections from evil spirits, she must go before the school council and ask for help. Joy is determined that her love for Tanner and their rose is worth every battle against the demon spirits.
Joy is a sweet, optimistic, and feisty girl who takes on her dreams, and challenges with a grace to be admired. I got to like the characters and loved the writing style. I am a huge fan of the mystical world and this took it to a new level. There is no other book like this one, I honestly loved it! If you like reading paranormal romance I recommending picking up The Shadow and the Rose, you won't be disappointed. I look forward to reading the next book in the series Casting Shadows.

Casting Shadows stars off where book one left off.

Well now that Melisande has been taken down you would think that Joy and Tanner would be able to enjoy their life and having a baby. But of course not what fun with this story be without some hidden evil agenda or some evil plot to ruin everyone's lives!

Overall this story had me captured from the beginning and held me throughout each page and chapter. There were some funny parts in here and some sad parts, and the ending! Wowzers. I so did not see that coming.

The character development just keeps improving and you even though you read a little about each character in the previous books, in Casting Shadows each character even if you just read about them once or twice plays a big role.

I loved how Maddie finally come to realize that William has loved her all these years! Even though she hurt him in a way that should never had even happened she learned from her mistake, but would it be too late for them to be together?

Two funny parts that stuck out to me and had me laughing.

When Tanner and Bobby are talking in the shop. And Bobby tells Tanner "Only if you sign my right ass cheek, Bieber." Just the reference to Bieber just was like omg, funny!

Now what really got me laughing was when Dr. Sumner, Tanner and Joy are all sitting around the table and Tanner and Joy are talking about their "first date night." The look I can imagine on Joy's father's face while he is sitting there, just cracked me up.

I gave this book 4 stars as I kept wondering why was Rose growing so fast? I understood she absorbed some of Melisande powers, but that didn't seem much. I felt as though it was never truly explained.

Other than that one little thing, the book was a great enjoyable read and I can not wait to read book three in this series! There is a love that Tanner and Joy has like no other, there is friendship, heartache, love lost, and love gained. There is the supernatural that plays a big part! You will want to go and get your copy right now!

It is testimony to a good book, that when you finish the last page, you instantly want more!! Casting Shadows, the second book in The Ash Grove Chronicles was excellent. The tension was maintained, the mysterious Infernal forces left unresolved, leaving you breathless for the next instalment.

In some ways, this is unusual for a YA Paranormal. Normally by the second book, you know exactly which supernatural forces the characters are up against. Amanda DeWees has cleverly left this a little vague. It's almost as if the sleepy town of the Blue Ridge Mountains has a large congregation of nefarious supernatural forces eagerly awaiting their release!

The mysteries continue as to the Succubus Melisande's existance, plus another force, the Supreme Musician of Hell - Amdusias is introduced. In this instance, it is William, Joy's good friend from Ash Grove who becomes involved. Thankfully, the clever and soul-searching Maddie uses her analytical mind to skilfully collate the puzzle pieces together to avoid disaster.

Some might start to dislike and distrust young Tanner, but on closer inspection, it was much more logical to pity him. Freed from Melisande's influence he was, but for such a long time, he had received contradictory messages regarding love. At no point in his life did he gain a healthy experience of love that caresses the soul, filling someone with strength, safety and unconditional acceptance. In Joy, he was offered this, but due to his emotional immaturity, and his reflex to flee when confronted with conflict, he has much to overcome to become the man, the husband, father, and son-in-law he is capable of. It will be interesting to see how he further develops in the next book.

So well done Amanda DeWees for another outstanding story! Truly looking forward to the next instalment.
I was provided an ARC of Casting Shadows for an honest review in return. No compensation was received.

Loved.

This was even better than the first book. So much fun to read. Action-packed, character-developing, and really didn't hurt that it focused a lot on my favorite folks from the first installment.

The pacing was awesome. I had a hard time putting it down (my poor, neglected children). There were no dead spots, and even in the "slow" scenes I felt like you got a lot of character development. And this book just made me love Maddie and William more. I'm SO GLAD they were such a big part of this story! I'm almost squeally and fangirl-ish.

I'm really glad we got more variation in point-of-view characters this time around. It gave a lot more emotional depth to the characters—especially Tanner, whom I had found rather flat and wimpy in the first book. It was nice to get a feel for where his head was and to see him mature a bit. He still has room to work on things, but he's also only eighteen. There was such a huge difference between where he was at the beginning of the book and where he was at the end, I'll give him a break now.

Only a couple complaints: It has more sex than I prefer for YA (I realize that teens have sex, but I don't have to read about it). There's nothing explicit, but the characters' sex lives are fairly important to the plot, which bugs me. But it did make for some really laughter-inducing, cringe-worthy scenes that caused me to choke on air a couple of times; I will never think of muffins the same way again. And I had a bit of a hard time following the chronology—it seemed like an awful lot happened , so that I had a hard time telling how much time had actually passed. It seemed like it should have been double or triple.

Excellent job again. Please don't make us wait too long for the last one!

“Casting Shadows”, Book 2 of the Ash Grove Chronicles, by Amanda DeWees is a fun filled teenage thriller with some supernatural elements to add some spice to the plot. Pregnant Joy and her boyfriend Tanner, both still at school, have their hands full with fighting off interference to their life from parents, ex-boyfriends, problems in their circles of friends, school authorities and some mysterious supernatural being that one day shows up at their place as doppelganger of Tanner.
In the previous book a succubus used her negative energy to corrupt Tanner and there is a fear that the unborn baby may also have been affected, especially when the baby seems much bigger than it should be.
The storyline wavers occasionally between the supernatural and the romantic chick lit genre but nevertheless it always keeps the interest of the reader and is entertaining. The dialogue is very realistic and smooth and the setting at the backdrop of rock bands and young pop culture is also very convincing and colourful.
This is an entertaining read.

Casting Shadows by Amanda DeWees

Rating 5*****

This book was provided by the author in exchange for honest literary review

Every do often I get my hands on a story I just can't put down. I relive the characters and their story over and over in my mind until I can picture each scene. For me, this was one of those novels. Joy is an amazing character. So deep and sensible, while remaining young at heart. Tanner and her have the most amazing relationship, because it isn't perfect, and there are troubles. This book is even better than the first. The action doesn't stop from the beginning. It is one plot twist after another, thrills mixed with suspense and coated in romance and love triangles. I am such a fan now.
This is one of the best series I have ever read. It is one that young and old readers can enjoy. It has a great blend of the supernatural and a new twist on paranormal romance. I can't wait for book 3 to come out. I will say the way things are left leaves you screaming literally screaming for more!!!!!

My favourite character in the last book was Joy’s best friend Maddie and I was happy to read more about her in Casting Shadows. I felt sorry for Maddie but proud of William for showing the world his talent and making the most of his potential. I am so glad Maddie finally realised that William is the one for her. Although it took her long enough :P

It was ironic that the star of this book was not the ex-celebrity Tanner but the new talent; William. Speaking of Tanner, I must admit I like him more in Casting Shadows than I did in Shadow & the Rose, where I felt he lacked backbone. In this book he is struggling but trying his best in leading a normal life, earning to support his expanding family, and passing the many tests Joy’s father is making him go through.

The next book in the series should hopefully answer the question around whether Joy’s baby has absorbed any of Melisande the succubus’ evil powers and I look forward to finding out!

To be honest I though that this book would just take us through the trials and tribulations of Tanner and Joy. Much to my pleasure, it branched out to start a side story of Joy's friends Maddie and William. I loved the goth girl and the geek hooking up, was destroyed when the friendship blew up and he hooked up Sheila. The evil is very much afoot in this book, and keeps you guessing throughout the story.
I loved the deepening of the characters in this book, any questions I had were very much answered here. I do believe this book is even better than the first, I fell in love with the characters all over again. The mark of a good story is becoming so involved you find yourself cheering, mumbling, even talking to the book like it's going to listen to you. I so did this with Casting Shadows.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, I have truly enjoyed reading both books. I honestly cannot wait to see what happens in the next. Many thanks to Amanda DeWees for giving me this book to read and review! You have made a fan for life!!

Omg!!! This was even better than the first book. I really enjoyed Tanner's character development in becoming more reliable and mature, it was so touching. This book had A LOT more drama than its predecessor, and minimal supernatural element. I'm not saying it was bad but I really hoped that this book would have fleshed things out more, without waiting close to the end. But somehow.... the drama worked. As always I loved Clark's comic relief, and the added POV's of Maddie and William. However, I came to strongly dislike Joy's father, even more so than Sheila. He was just so hypocritical and preachy when he himself was just extremely selfish and reckless (as you'll see at the end of the book). He seriously disappointed me and needed to get his priorities straight before telling others to do so. Other than that, I was very content with the character depictions, fluidity of the story, creativity, author originality, diction, dialogue, etc. *4.5 stars*

I must say its been awhile since I have been so hooked on a series. I just can't wait for book 3, I am also wrapped up in 2 other series as well.
But Casting Shadows was awesome. I read it in a little less than 2 days.
Love the new developments in this series but I was still left with a cliffhanger!!!
Maddie was awesome in book 2, she is really learning and growing. Joy was just a strong as in the first book. and I was happy to see Tanner become more confidant.
This time we had a little more going on-including a demon and shapeshifter.
I will say as much as I loved reading more about my favorite characters, I was not happy we saw so much of Shelia. I just didn't like her from the beginning, although she is important in this book.

What a fantastic book!!!!!!

This book is the second in the series of the Ash Grove Chronicles and it certainly doesn't disappoint. The main character, Joy, is certainly someone who is very easy to like, although I waxed and waned regarding Tanner, her boyfriend. Characters from the first book have been expanded and given their own stories which helped keep the book interesting. At times I wanted to shout at the characters for their actions or behaviour which I think is always a good sign that a book has drawn you in and made you feel as though it's real. I was kept guessing throughout the book and the cliffhanger at the end has definitely left me wanting more. I am an adult but I would know my 14 year old daughter would love these books. The Shadow and the Rose was excellent but this has definitely surpassed it.

Casting Shadows is the second book in the Ash Grove Chronicles. It takes off right where book one left off. Tanner and Joy are now living together and planning on how to raise their child together. They are worried about the effects that the succubus may have had on Rose. They finally get married and Joy's father does not seem to be happy about it. We also learn more about Maddie and William and find out that they are in fact in love. However after a one night stand it seems everything is ruined and William finds someone willing to pick up the pieces. Would you guess it was Sheila? What are the new forces at work at Ash Grove? Who will be affected?

I really enjoyed this book. It, just like the first, was beautifully written and flows well. I can now say I am an Ash Grove junkie! I can't wait to read the third installment Among the Shadows.

The second book in the Ash Grove Chronicles is terrific! The continuation of Joy and Tanner's story keeps the reader spellbound as they struggle to keep their love strong now that Joy is pregnant. Tanner is free of the succubus but evil still surrounds them. Was Melisande really vanquished or is she a threat to baby Rose? What is happening with William, a talented musician? Is his life in danger as Maddie believes or is she jealous of his new relationship With Sheila. The suspense is non-stop. Amanda DeWees has written a well crafted story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am hooked. I can't wait to start the next book, Among The Shadows. I need to know what happens. Be aware that you need to read these books in order to fully understand the story.

I received this book on a read to review basis.

Casting Shadows is the sequel to The Shadow and the Rose. Casting Shadows takes place directly following the events in the previous novel. Despite Melisande being taken down in book 1, Joy, Tanner and friends now face a new evil and threat in this book.

I really enjoyed the further character development of Maddie and William in Casting Shadows. I like how they were brought to the forefront and given a strong storyline. I also enjoyed learning more about Joy’s father, Steven and trying to discover what his big secret is.

I give this book 4 of 5 stars. It is a good follow up and continuation of the series, but it did lag at points and just didn’t grab my attention as much as the first novel did.

Casting Shadows is the second in what I hope will be a long series. I’m in love with these books and the characters in them. I like this book even better than the first, “The Shadow and the Rose.” In addition to the continuing love story of Joy and Tanner, we have the rocky friendship-turned-romance of William and Maddie. It’s an initially star-crossed pairing against the backdrop of William’s budding rock-‘n’-roll career and Maddie’s acting career. There are life-altering choices, stunning betrayals, the heart-wrenching longing of young love, and paranormal chills, all at a break-neck pace. I loved Casting Shadows and I recommend it to everyone.

I was given this for an honest review from the author. What can I say to keep you interested??
This was a great book, follows on from the first one. Following joy and tanner into the realm of becoming parents, dealing with being at school and strange things going on. Especially with the shape shifter, exciting stuff. Supernatural goings on, won’t give too much away but if you loved the first book this is a must read.

Amanda has developed the characters and the story is coming on and hope the series continues a little longer, absolutely love them.

Another hit!
Just as good as the first one! Following on From the shadow and the rose, chasing shadows doesn't disappoint! I enjoyed the two main characters, joy and tanner, just as much! Again a very addictive read! Great to see some of the other characters getting more of a storyline in the teen life soap opera of ash grove! I loved the relationships that followed on from the first and the new ones forming in the second! Read it to find out more! Very exciting ending with lots of fire and fear! A real page turner! A great mystery throughout as well! Must buy!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series, but Casting Shadows just went to another level. I loved how we got to see much more of the other characters, and was able to connect to them all on a deeper level than in The Shadow and the Rose. Full of action and adventure, there was never a dull moment and I soon found myself turning page after page to see how things were going to work out with not only Joy and Tanner but Maddie and William. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3.

I was very pleased that this book showed more of the Maggie and William I just love them :)
Also I really liked the plot between the father and his soon to be son in law, I am sure every single father would not be thrilled that their 16 year old daughters get knocked up and the run to the alter :)
Overall I loved the story just as much as the The Shadow and the Rose. (but must say so far the first book is still my favorite)
The writing is excellent and the storyline easy to follow.

This is the second book of the Ash Grove Chronicles and just slightly better than the first. I was pleased to see that book 2 consisted of Joy's friends; Maddie & William. Both characters showed a lot of growing up and I found myself rooting for the underdog. Speaking of growing up, Tanner was much more likeable in book 2. His drive to figure things out, the genuine effort to get along with the father in law, and putting others first, showed a major improvement in his all round general make-up.
Now on to book 3.
