The below is basically a repeat of my previous Hauser review with just a few changes.

I'm always at a loss with Hauser's books, yet something keeps pulling me back into them. I enjoy than as a whole, but when I try to analyze them I have so many issues with things like the editing, the total and complete suspension of belief that is required for a none sci-fi / werewolf type of book, the lack of depth etc... So basically, there is something about the characters and world she creates I like, but I just can't tell you what it is; other than a very guilty pleasure. If you are new to this author, I highly suggest you read many reviews from both ends of the spectrum to get a feel.

I really felt for and worried about the job change required for the son's love interest. I can't imagine how hard it would be for a macho man to be treated in such a way in the press. Yet for this book they remain solid. I find my heart saddened about the possible shared abuse for two characters. It was a sad yet interesting read, that for a Hauser book felt a little more real than normal.

Well, with Hauser it's either a hit or miss. This was not one of my favorites. This is not a stand alone, in my opinion. I don't know if it's my mood at the time I'm reading whichever book in this series but I feel like the characters' personalities change. Maybe it's just me. I'm a big Hauser fan so I hope she can forgive me this review.
