Anytime is a good time to read a dog story! When Karen and Will have to unexpectedly put their beloved best friend to sleep, they aren't sure they will ever be ready for another dog. But when an unusual event happens, they learn there is another dog out there who is counting on them.
Based on true events that happened in the author's life, this short story tells the tale of two very different dogs that loved their way into the heart of one family and how, through both life and death, they each formed a bond that would be cherished forever
Bought the book, not realising is was a short, yes short story of 25 pages.
But as an animal lover, a cat owner, a dog walker, I love my animals.
So in the very few pages of this book she shares a feelings of the sadness of losing a pet, a member of your family, their beloved dog Codi is brought in to be put to sleep, but there love of animals brings them back to find a new member of their family two weeks later, in comes Cujo (Riley)
Good read I had never thought of my dogs as having connected souls but I really did like the thought that they are watching over me. Anyone who has a loved pet that has passed should read this story.
Look, this is probably a me-problem. The concept is adorable. I've sometimes entertained the idea that one dog's spirit will lead you to your next great canine companion, because it aches to lose a beloved pet and it's nice to think they support the choice to find a new dog. I didn't dislike the story in general; I disliked how it was told. I hated the frequent attempts to glorify euthanasia - even within a kill shelter - and the detail put into describing when a dog who just needed a mobility cart was put down 'so he wouldn't suffer.' I hated the author's inability to properly use commas. I hated how artificial the dialogue sounded. But I loved the dogs. And I think I would have loved this short story, if only it were written better.
But it wasn't. I didn't. And that's just how it goes.
Two stars, one for each doggo... with one star removed because The story ends at 59% and the rest is a preview of something else. Bad author, no biscuit!
Ha, not kidding when they it's a short story, took me 20 minutes, if that to read it! I wish there was more, which why I didn't give it 5 stars. For anyone who has loved a dog and lost the dog, they'll appreciate this story. For anyone that never gets another dog because it was too hard to put down that dog, then read this story. Dogs live short lives, but opening your home and heart to a new one is awesome. So many wonderful dogs out there looking for forever homes!
This book only got three stars because it was more a short story than anything else. I would have liked it to be longer. There was so much potential for a really good story. Too bad it was cut short.
One of these simple stories that come along and turn out to be like a pot of warm, comforting bowl of stew on a cold winter evening. At turns poignant, at turns hopeful, a story for anybody who's lost a beloved friend and needs to find some comfort.
I had lost my dog, I could understand exactly what they were going thru, I had tears, I felt guilty for for putting my fur baby down, til I read this, it made me think that it was there job to love us,and for us to love them, and so for us to find another to carry on ..
Oh, I hope our dogs have connected souls! It would give me great comfort to know when my dog passes, he'll return to me in another soul to love and care for me all over again. This story was quick, touching and so relatable as a dog lover.
Brilliant fantastic fabulous book to read I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading books.
Brilliant fantastic fabulous book to read and I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading books. And books make you escape to another place when you read
This was so short, it could have been a really nice story but I felt this was more of an outline. The author seemed to have gotten bored with it and decided to make it a SHORT story.
It was a great short novella. I even cried because even though I put down Gypsy years ago and then had to give up my dog Nick when I ended up in a nursing home I still cry about my losses. Kit Ryan
This was a good book about pets and when they get older and have health issues. It is a hard choice to put them down but out of love for them we do it. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
Short and sweet 🐾This may be the first book to ever make me ugly cry. Even though it was short, it brought up some very real emotions in a beautiful way thats true to reality, and highlights the rawness of pet loss
This was my second time reading this book. It is a short story in the vein of A Dog's Purpose. It tells of a family that loses one dog but finds another once they have finished grieving.
If your an animal person you may love this story. Let me give you the first paragraph from the book as it best sums up what this book is about. 'On Feb. 10, a dog named Cujo was surrendered to the Westfield animal shelter. Also on Feb. 10 in a Westfield home, a dog named Codi said his final goodbye to the family he had loved for over 10 years. This is the story of their connected souls.' Anyway the begining of this story was so sad, you spend Codi's last moments with his family and even though he is at peace with what is happening you still grieve. Cujo story is sad and while you know the ending will be happy (at least you hope) you still can't help but get mad at Cujo's former owners. I will never know how someone can just give up a pet. It just doesn't make sense to me and it never will.
I love this book and it makes me wonder how we really find the next dog to come into our lives. Heartwarming and a lovely read. This book is a novella of only 60 pages but I recommend it to every animal lover and especially to all lovers of dogs.
While this short story had a few good sentences that I identified with, overall I was really disappointed. When some reviewers say that the story is chopped up, now I see what they mean.
This was a solid story about two dogs, one whose life was ending and the other who was starting a new life. This was a bittersweet and heartwarming short story.
