So this was the last book of the "Into the Shadows" trilogy.

I did not like it as much as the previous 2 books, which had also weaknesses but the strong aspects showed themselves more. The strong aspects were the characters and their relationships as well as the topic and the story.

The reader experiences less of the lovable characters and it is more action based, leaving very few room for character development or interaction between characters.
Paivis character developed, but in a very unpleasant way. This is okay since it shows the seriousness of the topic but the book gave me a negative feeling because of that, which I did not like. Also, it lacked a bit of consistency.

A big problem is the age of the characters and the functions they fulfill during this book. Children/Teenagers aged 13-15 participating in war and making actual decisions everyone has to follow? That was just not believable for me. Even if Paivi is more powerful than any adult around her - that does not give her the skills and authority for making EVERY decision for the group. Everyone just does what that little girl says...again: Not believable. Also, Torsten gets a gun from the soldiers: Excuse me?? The book became way too violent for my taste.

Just like the previous book, it was wayyyyy too short. I always wanted more of everything and had questions that did not get an answer.

I also could not get over the fact that the evil Dr. from the EOS camp is called Dr. Todesengel (Angel of Death). SRSLY?! For me as a german that is just ridiculous....it is like naming a villain "Herr Verybadperson" or "Frau Dr. Ikillpeople" in a german book. I know, the author knows german and seems to like the language. I appreciate that. But please...stop.

I liked how it was dealt with romantic parts in these books. Nothing was cheesy or too much and in the end it did not even matter.

All in all, Into the Shadows is a good science fiction/ young adult series but the last book disappointed me a little bit.

...Dr. Todesengel...really? I mean...REALLY?? D: No offense, but that was horrible - and me as a German reader, I may say that. To quote my dear Friend Jules

Yeah, I totally agree...

Well, now to the main point. If I look back on book one, that was about a rather normal school girl (her powers aside), a bit of a love story and then shit going to hell with the ATC - the books changed a lot during the trilogy. Book two got a bit more violent, but was cool because of the trainings and the Monks etc. Which reminds me...where were the monks at the end of book 3?

Book 3 is full war. It is violent (Paivi turned partly to the dark side in this book. There were many "bloody" scenes with her.), it is desperate (it is too short again), but what is the worst - it is partly unbelievable. Weren't the kids described as being around age 14? I hardly can imagine a "kid" to take so much responsibility and stress. So in my imagination I had the characters aged at least 17, if not older.

Only 3 stars for this one. I liked the previous books way more. If there would have been more content, I think it might have rated better from me. But everything went by way too fast.

Although I liked this trilogy and the characters, i couldn't help but feel as if the author got confused with the genres. If she wanted to create a mix of different genres, I think she should have began that in the first book. I felt the last two books did not have the same emotion. The first book was a type of dystopian with a touch of paranormal. The second and last book felt more like sci-fi to me.

This trilogy is worth the read. The characters are well-written and the plot, although a bit exaggerated, is still a good one.

Good Read

Just finished the series. I guess I felt a little let down in the end, but the middle of the series was awesome! ( and a lot of other parts too!) My 16 year old daughter tried to read it but got really bored halfway through the first book, maybe writing for young adults needs to grab the reader and drag them in earlier in the book. Especially if you're setting the scene for a series! All in all I did not feel like it was a waste of time, I just would have liked more

I thoroughly enjoyed this third book of the Into the Shadows trilogy. I felt very connected with this character and really could not put the book down until I figured out what happened and how it was resolved. I really enjoyed the ending (no spoilers I promise) and really cannot wait for more from this author.

I thought that this was a very good book! I love how the author used Paivy's ability to see the future to make an amazing story.
