Undaunted is a collection of true stories about Irish men and women who travelled to Australia in search of a better life and battled against the odds in a remote and harsh world. From 1788 when the first convict ships landed to the mid-20th century, these true stories about settlers, convicts and their descendants highlight the best and worst of human behaviour in the kinds of dilemma that faced newcomers. This book tells the story of the Irish contribution to this struggle.
A very good collection of stories about some of the more colourful personalities who hailed from the Emerald Isle yet made their legends in the Land Down Under. The regular mob are all included, Ned Kelly, Martin Cash, Alexander Pearce et al., yet the author gives equal time to some of the lesser known persons. Whilst the stories and research are all great, the book is let down somewhat by the style of writing. The stories tend to wander off onto tangents that can only be loosely linked back to their core subject. Still, "Undaunted" is well worth the read for anyone interested in some of the colourful characters in Australian history
