"I can't wait to see what Trice Hickman does next!" —Mary Monroe
"Trice Hickman is an amazing writer and storyteller!" —Kimberla Lawson Roby
Prior to writing, Trice Hickman's diverse professional career included work in both corporate and non-profit organizations. Currently, she is putting the finishing touches on her second novel, and a third book is already underway. She resides in Washington, D.C., with her husband. "
Do you believe in the power of prophesy? Do you believe in love at first sight? Those aer the question that are expored in Trice Hickman's soon to be releasesd novel. We are reintroduced to her character from her first book "Unexpected Interruptions". It tell the story of Victoria and Ted's daughter Alexandria. But also give us the story of Victoria's parents and how they came together. The glue to both of these storyline in Allene Small, the 90 year old matriarch of the Small family and her gift of phophesy. As ususal, Ms. Hickman has created a story that grabs you from the first sentence. Her writing is flawless and her character are realistic and interesting. This is a true page turner.
Alexandria Thornton is a corporate lawyer with gifts. She has a gift for delivering spoken word and a gift for reading the past and the future. Although she wants to pursue her poetic gift, she is afraid and confused about her gift of prophesy. After a soul bearing conversation with her mother, Alexandria realizes that she needs to embrace both of her gifts or risk losing them forever.
John Small is a New York City broker from a small town in South Carolina. After a fateful visit home one weekend, John realizes that the current woman in his life may not be right for his future. Will he have the courage to break free and embrace true love before it’s too late?
Hickman’s novel “Looking for Trouble” is a unique blend of romance and supernatural suspense. While I applaud her efforts for creating this story, I found the story line to be too predictable and unrealistic. Also, the characters were trite and hard to relate to. At times, it was hard to figure out if the characters were in the present, past, or future. Therefore, reading was quite laborious.
While living in New York City, the handsome John Small has made quite a name for himself and has never had any problems getting what he wants. His current girlfriend Madeline, is smart with super model looks and a self-confessed “city girl.” Madeline is looking to settle down and has chosen John Small to become her husband. Madeline seems to be a good match for business man John, who is about to head back to his home town of Nedine, South Carolina to open the town’s first black owned bank. John thinks Madeline could be “the one” and is looking forward to introducing her to his family, but this trip is going to be an eye opening experience that this couple will never forget. An extraordinary tale of love that blends the past with the present. A wise old lady’s premonition and the determination that love, principles and family values stand firm in the future generations of her family, gives this story an epic tone worthy of a mini-series. Wow! This was my first read by author Trice Hickman, and I loved it!! The skill it took to write scenes where the characters span five generations, each with their own identity, but blending so effortlessly into each other, showcases author Trice Hickman’s obvious writing talent. I eagerly looked forward to learning more about each character as the storyline deepened. This is definitely a recommended read.

Trice Hickman never disappoints. I mean never! Another great book in this series. Looking for Trouble is chock full of vivid, clairvoyant, and quite interesting characters. It's multi-generational. There is friendship, love, lust, colorism and a little bit of crazy. A few steamy, sultry scenes. There is spoken word. This one has it all. You will not be disappointed. Even though this is part of a series, it reads well as a standalone.
Trice Hickman has easily become my most favorite writer for 2016! I am devouring all of her books after first reading "Breaking All My Rules" this November. I love her style of storytelling! I think that she is an absolutely brilliant writer!
Ms. Hickman did an excellent job of weaving together the past and the present with the stories of John and Alexandria. The Unexpected Love Series has been one of my favorites, and this title is no exception.
Allene, the matriarch of the family, has the gift of prophesy and is determined to use it for the good of protecting her family. Her grandson John is her pride and joy, and her great-granddaughter, Alexandria, even though they have never met - is her student, who she will guide and direct to use her own visionary gift to lead her to her hearts desire.
On that quest there will be some bumps and bruises and some unexpected twists for Alexandria and her family - namely, her mother Victoria. I loved taking this journey with this family and can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
Definitely a book that will keep your attention and keep you turning pages.
Original storyline, it bounces between the past and the present but the writer did a great job pulling it off. There was no lull in the story, real easy to following along. This is NOT a sequel. This is Alexandria and PJ's and John and Elizabeth's story. If You read "Unexpected Interruptions" and "Keeping Secrets Telling Lies" then you'll see what Victoria and Parker are up to, they have a small role adding to the treat that is this book.
Looking For Trouble is such a good book. I was so engrossed in the story line that I read it in 2 days. I was so sad when I realized I was finished with the book. I was involved with the characters and I felt a kinship with them all. I felt so connected with Grandma Allene. I recommend this book to everyone. You won't regret it.
This was my "Blind Date With a Book read". Again, not my cup of tea...an Urban love story with a bit of mysticism. It held my attention. Though, for some that are not fans of sexual imagery...not for you. I had no problem with it though. Decent read.
This was such an interesting and enticing novel! I loved the South Carolina setting and some of the old traditions mentioned in terms of food and manners. The characters and connections had some surprising elements to them which made the novel very intriguing. Be warned, it gets VERY STEAMY in a chapter or two, which I was not aware of when I first picked it up. Other than that, it's a truly beautiful romance novel that also speaks on the issues of racism, color-ism, tradition, the supernatural and more. I highly recommend!
Although I always appreciate the sound of Kevin R Free’s voice in an audiobook narration, my take-away was this: lord, let me never have to hear a man compliment a woman by indicating his obvious erection.
This is my first time reading this Author. I am very impressed with her work. The story kept you interested from page 1. I liked the small town feel and the characters. John was a great catch who deserved the best woman.
Looking for Trouble by Trice Hickman John Small is a small town boy that works at Wall Street job and wants to go back home to open a bank there. He sees his girl friend of a few months in a new light as he introduces her to the family in his hometown. Alexandria is a spoken word artist and she wants a new life. She gets little clues via her mind as to what her path is to be. John receives a lot of wisdom from his grandmother-she also can see into the future. Alex's mom also can see things ahead of time and she confides in her to help solve what is happening to the clues she's getting from her grandmother.. Hate it when I read of a woman taking advantage of a man using her body to get what she wants-the ring that will lead to her having a fortune of money that she didn't earn. Will be interesting to learn how she gets her just due.. Interesting to learn how the two stories intertwine. Hot steamy sex scenes. I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
As always since I stumbled upon Trice Hickman's Unexpected Interruptions in the library I have been hooked to her novels. She doesn't disappoint although to be honest I bypassed this book for months before picking it up and reading and once again I walked away very pleased. Ms. Hickman gives you more than just sex and explicit descriptions she gives you background and history. She puts right in the story. This was awesome and I could tell that there was another book on the way as things just got hotter with Alexandria and PJ hooking up knowing that Victoria and Parker( their parents) were lovers. Also it stands to reason that some serious secrets are about to unfold in the follow up novel
I enjoy reading good books that are quick reads. "Looking for Trouble" was a quick read. However, chapter one could have started halfway through the book. That's when the storyline became interesting; and there were even laugh out loud moments. I was a bit surprised by the editing errors, but those were minor trangressions compared to the first one hundred and so pages that I found I cound do without reading.
Excellent read! Trice did a wonderful job of staying in the present while giving readers a glimpse of the past to paint a picture of how families can relate to problems from the past with problems in the present. As they say, there is nothing new under the sun. 5 stars!!! Ready to read the next book in the series.
I didn't care so much for all of the flip flopping back in forth between the past and the present or with the great great grandmother but it was still an excellent read.
