Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

I've really been enjoying this series. For this volume after Lady Tsunade was introduced I for some reason was very focused on her necklace. What was it supposed to be it's literally a stick in between to balls?! Then they talk about how anyone who's worn it besides her has died. maybe I'm just superstitious but why is she trying to give it to Naruto after the last 2 people she gave it to died. I mean I understand giving it to a 2nd person but for that to happen 2 times I'd just think it was a bad sign and would never let anyone else where it unless I wished them bad energy. I do have to say I enjoyed the beginning of this the best. to see the parallels with Naruto and gara and how different they turned out is interesting. and seeing gara apologize to his siblings made me smile. I like that Naruto has a positive effect on the people he meets even without meaning to

This is a review of the entire series.

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.

Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.

Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.

On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.

Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.

Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.

Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.

The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.

The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.

On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.

Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...

Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

A great volume to close up the story arc and propel the next one over.
While the Garra fight comes to an end we get to see the aftermath of the invasion. Outside of the satisfying ending to the battle, the 3rd Hokage did not make it through. The funeral was quite sad and really set up the question that had not crossed my mind, who takes up the mantle?
With this question in everyone's mind, we get two new visitors to the village. Itachi and Kisame a pair of new villains like we did not have enough before. A welcome sight of course since they both are quite unique and distinctive characters. Itachi is everything I imagined he would be like, cold and stern.
We finally get some backstory and the whole Sasuke and Itachi drama, dark stuff.
Like Kishimoto was not spoiling us enough he introduced another pair of new characters to spice things up. Tsunade and her assistant Shizune. Tsunade is a legendary ninja who was in Jiraiya's and Orochimaru's team cell. She is powerful and an amazing character to add. Outside of the new introductions we, fortunately, got to spend some time with Jiraiya and Naruto as a mentor and trainee. The relationship and father/son bond we are beginning to see develop is quite beautiful and really introduces something new into the series. I am a sucker for training storylines, Naruto better learn that jutsu. By the end of the volume, I was glad we get to see that Orochimaru again, it makes sense storywise and he is always a welcomed sight. Hope Tsunade makes the right decision, I like her too much for a betrayal.

Tsunade has to be one of the hottest women in all of manga.

This omnibus sees the end of the Konoha Crush Arc, and the start of the Search for Tsunade Arc. Like prior arcs, SfT seems to be broken up into a few sub-arcs so far: the introduction of the Akatsuki; the initial Rasengan training; and the meeting(s) with Tsunade. The first and third sub-arcs can be divided further: a) Itachi and Kisame in Konoha, followed by b) Itachi and Kisame versus Naruto, Sasuke, and Jiraiya; and a) Tsunade meeting Orochimaru, b) Tsunade meeting Jiraiya, and c) Tsunade's return to Orochimaru (where this omnibus ends). Ah, and I guess we may as well break the Rasengan Training up into sections for each of the three phases of the process. Unless we're just going to teleport back to Konohagakure next volume, I'm sure there will be more to come.

So Hiruzen sacrificed himself to seal Orochimaru's arms and prevent him from casting jutsu, forcing the abortion of Operation: Destroy Konoha. This leaves the village without an acting Hokage. Jiraiya is approached to take the mantle, but he doesn't want to; he mentions Tsunade instead, being the third member of the cell trained by Hiruzen, including young Jiraiya and Orochimaru (we've seen Tsunade as a child in a flashback or two). Meanwhile, Sasuke's brother Itachi comes into Konohagakure, accompanied by a shark-man named Kisame. They are after Naruto and the Kyūbi for reasons that will be very important after the timeskip. They fuck off when Guy dabs on them, and pursue Naruto and Jiraiya outside the village, where they then get dabbed on by Jiraiya. This is similar in structure to the way the Konoha Crush Arc worked, with the Akatsuki stuff seemingly resolving just in time for us to focus on Tsunade, rather than weaving them tighter. The rest of the volume builds on Konoha lore, with Jiraiya teaching a jutsu of the Fourth Hokage to Naruto, and Tsunade is revealed to be the granddaughter of the First Hokage, and of course we have the main purpose of getting Tsunade to accept the role.

Gonna follow through from last omnibus review and take a moment to go over the Konoha Crush Arc as a whole, now that it's finished here. Pretty good arc overall, but I feel it's "less good" than the Chūnin Exams or Land of Waves. A large point against the arc's favor is simply that I'm less nostalgic for it. Another big thing is I feel we've moved too far away from the ninja premise and into more like a fantasy/JRPG story with the idea of superpowered wars. The Chūnin Exam Arc was already barely ninja stuff, and just raw shōnen battle tropes, but it was tightly composed and directed. "Concise," I'd say. The thing about Konoha Crush is that Kishimoto is getting too big for his britches. He knows he's safe from having his manga cancelled, so he can set up plot points to not be resolved until twenty or forty volumes later. Orochimaru failed to destroy Konohagakure, but it's fine because he can try again, because the manga isn't going anywhere. He didn't kidnap Sasuke, but he can also try that again. Rather, the most important part of the arc, as far as concerns the immediate present, is the combat defeat of and subsequent Talk no Jutsu on Gaara, setting him up as something of a Vegeta-type, to become reformed and join as an ally later. I mean, the manga is called Naruto, so it's fair to say the most important part of any story arc should be what it does to reflect Naruto's growth, and Naruto simply isn't involved in Orochimaru's assault against Lord Third. Yeah, it's unfortunate Lord Third dies. Yeah, it's cool we see Lords First and Second, as well as setting up Edotensei for later on as a thing that's possible in the series. But the coolest shit here is a) Naruto's Ninja Handbook, b) Naruto summoning Gamabunta for a kaiju battle, and c) Naruto and Gamabunta using Transformation Jutsu to imitate the Kyūbi and further set up the Bijū thing.

Shout-out to Hayate's girlfriend, who is very hot for a minor character. Apparently she has an expanded role in anime filler?

Shout-out to Shizune as well, who is also hot. I think between her, Anko, and Kurenai, it seems Kishimoto's hottest girls have black hair. Except Tsunade is still the best, and she's a blonde....

Also, I guess Asuma doesn't care that his father died? His name was mentioned to be Sarutobi long before the Third Hokage was given a name. We see him at the funeral, but he isn't notably moved. The next time we see him, he's fighting Itachi and Kisame and no mention is made of his father. I mean, not that the Akatsuki would bring it up, but still.

EDIT: Forgot to mention this, but there's an illustration by Ikemoto here as part of the third anniversary celebration by the assistants, and you can see through the way he draws Sakura that all the girls in Boruto will look... the way they do.

As usual, I enjoyed this however there were too many events going on at the same time in my opinion. Naruto battling against Gaara in order to save Sakura from being smothered, him learning how to summon the rasengan through Jiraiya's teachings and Tsunade being manipulated by Orochimaru in order to destroy Konohagakure. I still have mixed feelings about Tsunade especially since she made a very immature wager with Naruto and drugged Jiraiya. I also had a great time learning about Itachi as he was finally introduced and Sasuke didn't manage to win against him. In fact, the overconfident shinobi ended up injured gravely. I look forward to learning about whether or not Itachi and his assistant Kisame kill Sasuke and steal away Naruto since he has the 9 tails or whether Kakashi will be able to figure it all out since he too was injured. This goes to show Itachi's power. I was impressed with how big Tsunade's boobs are in the manga as well as the anime but then realised that she's as old as Jiraiya, 50, and was turned off again... I wish to read more about Gaara and whether he'll make a come back. Orochimaru is a huge cunt especially since he killed the third Lord and learned to forbidden jutsu of reanimating the dead by sacrificing living and healthy people. His hands were destroyed in the confrontation with Sarutobi however Tsunade, not even Kabuto, is able to heal him and only if she does will he be able or resume project destroy Konoha...

I fuckin' hate Jiraiya and Kakashi as Naruto's "teachers". They don't teach him shit. Kakashi plays favorites (and the only times Naruto recognizes this are a joke) and doesn't notice that Naruto can't use his chakra properly even with his Sharingan eye?? He thinks Naruto's too lazy so he just pawns Naruto off onto Jiraiya, who steals Naruto's money, is a complete asshole to Naruto (which, being Naruto's godfather who just left him to be an orphan in the first place, you'd think he's spend some time training Naruto like he fucking promised!!!), and doesn't actually teach him anything except about the existence of a jutsu then says "good luck kid you have to just get a feel for it". Gah. I'm only so critical because I love Naruto so much, however, so the five stars. I love Naruto with my entire heart.

This was such a a gripping volume with tension that just did not let up. Sure there were moments that brought out laughs, like Jiraiya spending time with women when he should have been training Naruto.
Even though it starts with the aftermath of the death of the third Hokage it quickly dives into the next arch. First Itachi was well introduced and established, yet I did find Kisame interesting and chilling but not as much as Itachi.
Yet the introduction of Lady Tsunade was well done and I do like the fact that she was well written and fun. Yet I do find her past tragic and I just can't help but feel sorry for her.
Yet I do like that it opens up the childhood of Lady Tsunade, Jiraiya and Orochimaru and shows what they were like as children. Also just how they were like Sakura, Naruto and Sasuke yet showing their differences too.

Things are really starting to motor forward for the Naruto series, especially as we draw closer to Shippuden territory. Here we get the conclusion to the fight between Naruto and Gaara, while Sasuke confronts the demon of his past. Overall, I really enjoyed this. It progresses the story well. Naruto gets some good development, while epic battles and tension spreads throughout. You can tell things are starting to head in a interesting direction. If you're already at this point, you're probably sold on the series already. Definitely worth the purchase.

It's very narrative heavy. It moves the story along well but the last book brought in so many characters that this one neglects to follow up with. This book brought in more characters too but the focus is with a very small handful of characters still. In the end it's rather uneventful for the most past.

This omnibus quickly wraps up the fights between Gaara and Naruto and Orochimaru and the Third Hokage. However the mourning for their great leader doesn't last long as a new threat quickly appears on the horizon bringing in new characters and starting off a new story arc.

Sasuke's nackstory is showed more as well as his hatred for his older brother who is still very much still out of his league. Jiraiya also shows off his true knowledge and abilities premium this issue and he certainly doesn't let up when it comes to Naruto's training.

Finally the volume wraps up with Taunade. The medical genius Naruto and Jiraiya are trying to track down. But as usual Orochimaru steps in with an offer that just may be too good to refuse.

Yet again another fantastic and must read omnibus volume.

I really enjoyed this Manga.

This follows Naruto as he and his friends deal with the ending of the chunin exams and the ending of Orochimaru's plan to destroy the leaf village.

I really enjoy being with these characters in all that they do. It is fun to see all that they are doing and how they are dealing with all that happens. I love these characters and all that they are doing.

The story is good and fun to read even when they handle hard things.

I loved seeing the characters grow as ninja and learning more about being ninja.

I love this reread cannot wait to continue.

Naruto es excelente en su historia completa, hay arcos muy buenos, excelentes y el giros impresionantes. Definitivamente leerlo en su cúspide de atención a la trama es mucho mejor que tener la paciencia de soportarse los episodios relleno del Anime.
