Matsuri Hino was born on January 24 in Hokkaido. She was a bookshop keeper who one day decided to become a manga artist, and all of nine months later, in 1995, she published her first manga title, Kono Yume ga Sametara (When This Dream Is Over), in Japan's LaLa DX magazine.
Well it looks like Takuma is firmly team Sara and Kaname's mission to kill pure bloods isn't abating no matter who is in the way. Ruka made a bold move this book. Good for her. The story seems to be dragging a little too long for my tastes but I still manage to enjoy the beautiful art. I'm dying to see something happen between Yuki and Zero! Ugh. They are definitely building the angst and tension hardcore. After not reading the series on a while I admit to being a little lost at first but was able to quickly catch up and recover. On to the next!
I feel as though it's dragging too much. The plot has many subplots and I understand most of them. But goodness gracious, this is too much. END IT NOW! I'm willing to finish this manga, though. It was among my first and I'm only a volume away. I just wish that the chapters leading to the resolution were more action-packed and conclusive than they were.
17 Volumes in and mangaka Matsuri Hino continues to keep the action and drama at a high level in the Vampire Knight series. Yuki and Zero are thrown into the heart of a nasty war as Kaname continues to hunt down pure bloods to destroy them. This time, he has set his sights on Sara - but the pureblood will not go easily and is using her powers of possession and the Vampire Hunters themselves to protect her from Kaname. She's even willing to go so far as to let Zero feed on her so she can manipulate him - but hers is not the only blood both giving Zero strength but also controlling him. And Kaname, as an almost unearthly progenitor, will not be easily defeated.
This was an important volume in the series. Yuki, who has seemed so lost after being returned to her full blood vampire state, finally determines what she wants/has to do. With that resolve, will come a very important change and a pact made with Zero. But she knows that Kaname, who protected her his whole life, must ultimately destroy her if he is to fulfill his mission to kill all the purebloods. That pitiless destiny drives them both with Zero caught in the middle.
As always, the gorgeous artwork and pure angst are counterbalanced with a story of depth and action. This is one series that especially deserves/needs a professional translator to effectively convey Matsuri Hino's complicated story. Volumes like this one show why this is one of the best Shoujo titles out there.
At the end Yuki is on the side with Zero and are at a stand-off with Kaname. Also Zero drank Saras blood which I found to be dumb because now that’s like 4 pure blood bloods in him at the moment and idk what that will do physically or mentally to him. Also, at the end Yuki cut her hair. idk if this is to symbolize her gaining her freedom from Kaname or her getting a new begging. Kaname stabbed Ruka then Kain shot him for stabbing her and she got stabbed by protecting Zero from getting under Kanames control. Kaname was trying to take control of Zero with his blood that flows through Zero, but Ruka saved him. Yuki then gave Ruka her blood, which Kain actually gave to her. I hope their relationship can now become a thing. Also, Kaname can’t hold vampire weapons, so hes been going around with a basically no skin hand caring a sword to kill Sara. It’s pretty nasty and gruesome and I can’;t imagine that it’s pleasant to have your hand burning away slowly. Also, their stand-off at the end is because Kaname wants to kill Sara and Yuki and Zero are protecting her.

Kaname seems to be taking a turn and I don't know if I like it. This series is coming closer to it's end, which is a bit sad. I've been pretty dedicated to it since it was serialized in ShojoBeat magazine in my teen years. I just cannot get enough of the mini comics in the side bars and chapter break pages. Too cute! I love this author (Matsuri Hino) very much and I hope she continues to write wonderful stories!
So much dripping angst. I love angst, I really do, but not when a story is drenched in it. I suppose with a Gothic story about vampires one should expect a lot of emotional turmoil, but I'm finding it a bit bland, especially our heroine, Yuki. With only a couple of volumes to go to the end of the series, I'm simply along for the ride at this point as I watch everyone self-destruct. That, at least, is somewhat interesting.
I love this series, but it's been a few years since I read previous volumes. The drawings are stylish and cinematic, and the story is sweet and sad. It is about loyalty. To once's people, to family and friends, to the person held most dear, to oneself and one's core values. In volume 19 it concludes with the main characters ultimately being able to gift each other with life they were willing to sacrifice.
This is an ongoing soap opera of a school where vampires and humans attend (although most of the humans are not aware of the situation). The main character, Yuki Cross, was a vampire, turned into a human and returned to be a vampire. Originally she was the adopted daughter of the head master, a vampire hunter who wishes for vampires and humans to coexist. Her brother/betrothed is a pureblood vampire who is killing other pureblood vampires. It really is a soap opera.
<3 Kaname <3 Zero. Both are beautiful. The part where either Kaname or Zero hug Yuuki warmly and protectively is my most waited scene. Just like Yuuki, I would be miserable if I had to choose only one of them. So, I decided not to choose and see how the story goes. I wish none of them is going to die in the end.
Weird. Interesting but not in the way the first arc was. This is just... odd. I get that he wants to destroy all vamps but it's getting annoying not really understanding why. Because his millenia old ex wanted to...?
Kinda confused... But I mean, you can only give Kaname so many chances. Just butcher him and live a happy life with Zero (who hates you because of various past traumas) ;) SIMPLE.
Synopsis: Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Cross Academy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires.
Review: The opening chapters are little cliche, but the story quickly builds up to a rapid spiral of drama, psychological trauma and vampiric romance that isn't overly lovey-dovey. Yuki is the protagonist, but there's not much to like about her. The driving forces of the series are Yuki's two love interests. The tragic backstory of Zero and his desire for vengeance against a powerful vampire, and the alluring mystery of Kaname and his strange obsession with Yuki carry the plot. Zero and Kaname develop a bit of a rivalry for Yuki's attention that ends up leading to some pretty dramatic stakes and tension.
There are a lot of characters in this series, but only a small handful of them are actually engaging and memorable. Out of the 35 or so characters, only 5 or 6 of them carry the plot on their shoulders; some of which don't even stick around very long. Zero and Kaname are the stars of the show but the story grows rather dull when they're not around. Ichiru and Shizuka were cool but they only made a few appearances.
There is a pretty wicked climax in the middle of the series that really drew me in, but the rest of the series fails to live up to what that climax set up. The characters become less interesting, the plot falls apart and struggles to find a proper pacing and purpose. I really liked the first half of the series, the second half was just passable in my opinion.
The story mainly takes place at the Academy Cross, where the Day Class and Night Class live separately. The latter is made up of vampires students led by Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire. The two discipline officers, Zero and Yuki, are the main characters alongside Kaname. Zero comes from a long line of vampire hunters, the Hunters, and Yuki is the Director's adopted daughter. Their lives are turned upside down when Zero becomes a vampire, Yuki remembers his past, and Kaname reclaims his place as leader by ousting the Vampire Senate. 🌸 Love mingles with war and their story unfolds in ten volumes. The first 5 volumes have been adapted to the screen in two seasons. If the series disappoints a few fans, I also recommend the manga which is really good, funny and exciting with a real turnaround in the last volumes.
💖💖💖💖💖
I have been mostly reading this out of obligation to finish it rather than actually enjoying it, so after giving 11 volumes of this in a row three stars, this one drops down to two.
It's a strange one. I can mostly understand what's going on (insofar as I can bring myself to care about any of it), but not why anything is going on. I can't figure out what's motivating the vast majority of the characters, or where their loyalties lie. I can't tell half of the secondary characters apart, so their splitting up into factions under Kaname or Sara is of no interest to me. It feels more like killing time, or making sure everybody gets some page time before the main trio finally sorts out its sexual and/or vampiric feelings for each other.
The art's still great, and Zero's and Yuki's super-weapons are cool.
Yuki cuts her hair at the end of this volume, symbolically severing her connection with Kaname, but she is still wearing the white uniform. My guess for the ending of the series is that she, with Zero at her side, will find some way for vampires and humans to live in peace, in keeping with Cross's mission when he started his academy. Kaname may or may not die for that end to come to fruition.
