In the near future, the federal government creates a committee to rid society of books it deems unsuitable. The libraries vow to protect their collections, and with the help of local governments, form a military group to defend themselves--the Library Forces!
The Media Betterment Committee has censored an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Iku’s hometown! Iku’s top-ranked Library Forces team must train the local troops to defend the freedom of speech using any means necessary...but the librarians there resent her position and aren't shy about making their feelings known. Soon Iku's parents catch wind of her secret life as a member of the Library Forces, with disastrous results!
A fantastic volume this time with a new mission which involves some horrible people and also a big hard chat with Kasahara's parents, but also features a famous guy popping up, sakura blossom viewing (poor Kasahara, but she tried), Dojo x Kasahara sweetness (these two need to confess, come on, it is so clear to everyone). I am curious how the next volume is going to go given that it will be a big battle. I was so proud of Kasahara btw, how she handled things at that branch and how she talked to the girls in the defence force and tried to be there for them. She was really mature and I love how much she has grown!
With the announcement of a citizen organization suing the MBA over a banned word, the Library Task Force faces a new threat with an art exhibit causing protests and threats at a local library branch. The team is called to help out but once they get there, they are faced with a leadership structure that doesn’t follow with the rest of the Library system.
Iku is faced with a lot of bullying and I loved how she faces it head on. We get some more entertaining encounters between Iku and Dojo which were amazing and makes you question what’ll happen next. The biggest surprise though is that Iku is faced with a challenge she was not prepared for and needs to make a decision on how she’ll react when it puts her position at the Library in risk.
Sorry that my reviews are getting so short... I've been writing these on my phone since we got our internet disconnected for the move.
Anyway, this volume really shows how much that Iku is growing into such a wonderful and strong character. When they are called to another library she doesn't let those stupid bullies get to her and she finds a way to make it better for the others there. I've never seen a manga with such a wonderful character arc. The action is awesome and the romance is adorable. Also... the plot is great. The art is epic. I can't not sing this manga's praise. It's worth it. If you've not read this manga, you should change that ASAP. So worth it!
I really liked this one! So much added to the story. There's a new mission, Kasahara standing up for herself against bullies and finally her family finding out what she actually does. You can imagine how well that goes. Iku grows a lot in this one and I love who she is becoming. Also all the moments with her and Dojo were cute. Although I do wish the two of them would just confess already.
Ohhhhhhh!!! The feels keep getting stronger and stronger as this series keeps progressing!
Another absolutely-loved-the-volume! Well, except when we have a fully nude woman near the end (even though it's not detailed). -_- Wasn't happy about that. However, Iku really continues to grow so much and was so proud of her. I was proud of Dojo too. I think they may be coming out of their comfort zones! :D
Iku's Dad gets a point for simply being awesome and encouraging. Also, this cover is on point. GORGEOUS!
You ever get that feeling that something really big is about to happen? Yeah, things are ramping up. All this for the sake of a piece of art? Ah...so many things are at stake here...
3.5/5 I truly appreciate Iku's character development. I also appreciated the cherry blossom story at the end.
What I don't appreciate is how little time we get with Shibazaki and Tazuka! I enjoy them almost as much as I enjoy Kasahara and Dojo; the fluffy feelings are too much!
As you can see I am devouring this series. Mangas never take me long to read no matter how long I savor them. I highly recommend this series!
I felt hurt with how Iku's mother saw her only daughter. I understand somewhat where she is coming from, but I really don't agree with it. It's not enough that Iku's her daughter, she wants a particular type, one that is quiet and delicate- that's not fair.
In the last volume, we saw the Media Betterment Committee lose their mind over an article that dared to use the word 'barber' - and that a citizens' group sued them for their censorship efforts. The battle against silencing speech has only started, though, as another fight starts as another ends, all in the conflict between MBC and the Library Forces. And as the Library Forces get heated in Ibaraki, poor Iku can't help but get heated over Dojo and the possibility of her parents finding out what she really does every day. What's a girl in uniform to do?
This is my current favorite ongoing manga series. I love the concept, and the way the issues with censorship are presented do not bog down the story. It’s a little more action oriented than many shojo manga, but this suits both the plot and the combination of drama and comedy. I love the characters. The core cast is incredibly engaging, and their dynamics make for both great comedy and great drama. I give it four out five stars.
Oh man, this was one of my favorite volumes by far! I loved so many things about it, but especially seeing how far these characters have grown and how close they are as friends and supporters of each other…gah, I love them all so much! Also this cover is gorgeous and so, so emotionally beautiful for what is going on in Iku’s heart.
I really connected with the laundry mat scene between Iku and Dojo and just the confusing emotions and feelings she was going through—it broke my heart and was just so real I could feel it exactly. And Dojo for all his gruffness and yelling sprints really does care for Iku and is so, so sweet to her—he really is great. 🥰
And Iku standing up to her mom—who SERIOUSLY needs to stop commanding her grown daughter to do what she wants, like, seriously!—was so profound and needed even though it was hard for her to do so. I’m very proud of how far Iku has grown. ☺️
Content: some suggestive hints; mild swearing; characters drink and one gets drunk and has a bad hangover; use of the words emasculated and pissing blood; a character is targeted and bullied; tension between a mother and her adult daughter; girls bathe (nothing is shown beyond if they were wearing bikinis); violence (nothing over PG)
This volume has the team going to visit another library in Iku's hometown where there is an exhibit drawing attention from the MBC. They find the library defense in disarray and the director corrupt. I am kind of surprised that this is so considering they have to report to the main branch. I think the head of the library needs to keep a better eye on the branches. They end in a bit of a cliffhanger.
Content notes: light swearing, a woman's naked body shown from the side with boob and cheek silhouettes
A fun continuation that focuses mostly on the actual Library War plot, but good god will Kashihara ever not break out crying in an issue? Like come on.
So, Kasahara got on my nerves really bad in this volume. Okay, that's kind of a lie, because she was also a badass. I think it's because she OBVIOUSLY LIKES DOJO AND HE OBVIOUSLY LIKES HER BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING. I have been in this situation before and it's frustrating. Just TELL EACH OTHER HOW YOU FEEL. Also, I think she got on my nerves because I act exactly like Kasahara when I like someone. Embarrassing.
By far, this is the best volume in the Library Wars series! The main storyline was nicknamed, "The Crisis" and takes place outside of Kanto but in Mito, Iku's hometown. The Museum in Mito was exhibiting a controversial piece regarding freedom and the Kanto Library Forces is there to help back them up. Unforunately, Iku experiences bullying tactics to flee Mito and her family discovers her secret with the Library Defense Force ... and she confesses her love to Dojo, too.

The citizens are starting to fight back against the MBC and it’s the first step to no censorship. But censorship is far from finished and now a controversial piece of art is under attack. The mobilization of the Task Force unearths a poorly mismanaged library...in Iku’s hometown.
Drama, bullying, action, and a good bit of romance. It’s such a good story.
Best way to describe this series: Do you hate censorship but love a little bit of cute romance? If you answered yes, then you will devour this book. Even if you're like me and you're not a huge fan of romance... this is just so darn cute and balanced so perfectly with themes that I care deeply about (namely anti-censorship) that I can't help but adore these books!
So, we're finally setting up for the Ibaraki arc. Arcs like these are what really give life to the premise of Library Wars. So, this series was turning out to be a more laid-back slice-of-life story. But not anymore!
Is it weird that I like the side ships more than the main one??
This series is so unabashedly cheesy. It's sort of humorous how cheesy it is. Sort of. There is hazing in this one. I don't really think it was handled well.
I like the cover, though. The water effect is cool.
This book took our favorite task force members to a small village to protect a new piece of art! I love seeing the developments that are going on with our favorite people. I can't wait to continue the series!!
SO MUCH CHARACTER GROWTH FOR IKU!!!! I love that she is finding her stride and becoming more confident in herself!!!! The cliffhanger on this chapter though.... Luckily I have checked out all the volumes and will not be left hanging !
Another cute volume, I loved that this volume focused on the "war" against MBC more than the "love" element. I'm excited to see where this is going as we approach the end.
This is an awesome comic series, and I’m truly loving to reading it! It’s a strong girl who wants to do what she loves most, which is defending the library.
