This sequel to the popular thriller 'CAME A SHADOW' is a must read for fans of the genre.
One of the worst child serial killers in American history escapes from prison with one aim: Make the two people responsible for his downfall pay the ultimate price.
Parents of a six-year-old adopted daughter, Jack and Callie Parmenter know only too well who this maniac's target will be.
A poignant story of love, revenge, and sacrifice. Patrick Dakin once again thrills fans with a tale that is never predictable and is always entertaining.
Yikes, I am behind with my reviews again so will be hitting it hard in the next little while. I actually read this (and wrote the review) a year ago but it somehow didn't make it to Goodreads. So here goes...
3.5 stars as I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the previous book. And you really need to read this trilogy in order. As we know, Reuben Henderson escaped from custody at the end of the last book. Callie, his daughter and ex-FBI agent Jack Parameter are now married and have adopted a little girl girl, Tanya, now six. When they hear of Reuben's escape they are terrified that he will come for Tanya as he is an evil child-killing monster.
Then Jack makes a big mistake. Convinced that Henderson is heading their way he sends Callie and Tanya off in their motor home to stay with friends far away. The trip should take four days and Callie was to phone home daily. When there is no word after three days, Jack fears the worst. Meanwhile Jack has been befriended by his neighbour Con Edgerton - a rather strange man, a Vietnam vet whose quiet company Jack enjoys.
Soon Jack receives word that Callie has been found near death at a rest stop and there is no sign of young Tanya. Eventually Con offers his tracking skills to hunt down Reuben Henderson in the mountains where he was known to spend much time. As they get deeper into the wilderness though, Con's behaviour gets real strange and unsettling. I can't say more without spoilers but rest assured it gets quite desperate and a little gruesome.
I took off half a star because I thought Jack made some really dumb decisions. Nevertheless, it was a good read and I will need to read the third book to see how it all ends.
This sequel to "Came a Shadow" is riveting. We are treated to the vision of a man looking for revenge for what was done to his family by a monster. The big question is whether or not the hero will also become a monster in the process of finding and dealing with his adversary. Where are the limits of what is acceptable revenge in our society? Well worth reading.
What an amazing #2 of the trilogy!!! Had me on the edge of my seat, not wanting to put my e-reader down for 2 long..always wanting to see what happens next...just about to start #3 - can't wait to see the outcome of Jack and Callie.
This book kept me interested. Some of it was predictable, but a lot was unforseen! I totally understand the thought process that Jack went through. Can't wait to start part 3!!
Another good read by Patrick Dakin. This starts off when Jack, Callie and their 6 year old daughter, Tanya, are on vacation. They are informed that Henderson, who is Callie's father, escaped from prison. He was serving time for killing 40 children. Jack talks Callie into leaving their home to a safer place which she agrees, however, she was going to call each day yet after not hearing anything for 3 days he starts to worry something has happened to them. He contacts a detective he knows and also goes in search of them at the stops they would make along their way. This book will keep you in suspense. An awesome read. You will have to read to find out the outcome. Amazing!
This was a fast-paced dark mystery filled with misery that definitely doesn't leave the reader on a high note. I found it not as good as the first in the series and I'll probably wait a while to read the final book. But I will read it. I rated this one 4.2 stars.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
One of the worst child serial killers has escaped from prison and vowed to take revenge on those who were responsible for his capture. Fast moving, good plot. Leaves opening for Book 3 the the Shadow Trilogy.
I've got another author to add to my list of favorites. Now, I have to have to read the third book in the trilogy to see what happens next to Callie and Jack.
