Considering how well Claudia Canfield juggles a demanding job and a four-year-old son, no one would guess she was once a spoiled, irresponsible young debutante. She left that chapter of her life behind for good. Or so she thinks--until Andy Woods makes a most unwelcome return to her life.

When Claudia's grandmother Bea takes a nasty spill that lands her in the hospital, Claudia breaks her vow never to return to Lake Tahoe. To the place where she found first love, then lost it. The place where her son Paul was conceived, a mistake that turned out to be the only good thing to come of a hopeless love affair.

Bad enough to be surrounded by memories of the long winter she spent skiing, spending her parents' money, and falling in love with Andy. He was supposed to be long gone by now, far from the mountains where he spent his hardscrabble youth. Instead, he earned a medical degree and came back to care for the people of his home town - including Bea.

Bea's injuries turn out to be serious, but all she wants to talk about is Andy. About how fortuitous it is for him and Claudia to be together again. How Claudia owes him the truth: that Paul is his son.

But Claudia is more determined than ever to keep Andy from finding out. The memory of their last night together still aches after all this time: she’d revealed her hopes for the future and he’d crushed them as easily as if they were made of spun glass.

It’s all in the past now, and Claudia vows to keep her secret from Andy, even after the ashes of their long-past romance threaten to erupt again into flame.

I liked the general story but my low rating is due to the need to be edited. Characters are called by the wrong name several times and there are many occasions when words are missing from a sentence or letters are missed off of words (he instead of the etc).

No likie at all!!! This had to have been one of the most boring-est books I've read in a long while. It just dragged on and on and on and on some more. I actually read the first half of it but then ended up just skimming the second the half. Needless to say, I still knew what was going on between Andy and Claudia. Pure boring-ness!

I couldn't stand Claudia. She was too much for my liking. She's constantly attacking Andy, at least verbally when he's trying to explain things to her. She kept the fact she was pregnant when she left from him....for 5 years. God forbid, that just because he hadn't told her that he loved her, that he wouldn't have wanted to help raise their child together. The fact that whenever she planned on telling Andy about Paul, she ends up having sex with him, or does something sexual...just wrong! Claudia was a very selfish character, definitely full of herself too.

Questions/Comments:

How can Claudia feel jealous that her grandmother and Andy have a close relationship? She's seen her grandmother a lot less than Andy has over the last 5 years. What did she expect?

When she goes to leave the hospital room, walking past Andy, there is a confusing part...at least on my part. "...Claudia edged past him through the narrow doorway into the hall. The fabric of her sleeve...brushed against his arm as she slipped by... 'Excuse me,' he muttered, edging to the side. The wrong side. Claudia stepped right into his path. How exactly were they standing near the doorway? I couldn't figure it out since they had to have been pretty close for her sleeve to touch him, yet, they managed to both move in the same direction and collide? I don't think so.

So apparently when having hip surgery, you'll will be able to get up and go after just 'a day or two.' Why does that not sound right?

It's obvious that Bea would need extra help but again Claudia was only thinking of herself there. How she got mad with Bea after Andy talked her into getting some extra care after Claudia went back home...was beyond me.

They were looking at different nursing home/care facilities...the main one we read about involved them getting to see a unit that wasn't usually available. Some guy was planning on moving in shortly. So why did the nurse or whoever show that unit to them? Yeah, it was nice...but if they weren't available....No sense.

The way Claudia ended up acting after they had sex, after she told him about Paul, was bad! Again, what did she expect? He'd just found out that he had a 4-5 year old..all those years he missed out on. I would have been angry too.

I didn't understand near the end, when she asked her father why he hadn't been upset...upset about what? To me, the writer almost made it seem as though she expected her father to get mad at Andy for some unknown reason.

This was a really sweet book, and the characters were delightful! Bea was something else. I loved her spunk. Bea was Claudia’s grandmother. Claudia came home to sit with her grandmother when Bea ended up in the hospital. Bea accepted her age, and the health problems that came along with aging with grace. Claudia on the other hand, was not taking her grandmother’s limited mobility, and aging very well at all. Claudia had a hard time coping with the fact that Bea wanted to move out of the home she lived in most of her life, to live in a nursing facility. Bea explained that it would be fun to live with others her age, and play cards.

Bea didn’t tell her granddaughter before she got that, that her doctor was Claudia’s ex, her one time love. The passion was still burning hot between Andy, and Claudia. They had a lot to work out.

I loved this book, and I think you will too.

Example from chapter 7 – I have to tell you, Claudia Canfield, that I think it’s you who is in dire need of learning to let go.” “Let go? Of what?” Bea sighed dramatically and waved her orange juice in a sweeping gesture. “Of the past. Of thinking everything has to stay the same. People grow. They change. They age. They lose the ability to do some things, but they learn new things.” “Some people,” Claudia corrected her half heartedly. “Some people can change. Others don’t have a prayer. I just wonder if you’ve taken into account _” “I’m ready for a whole new phase in my life,” Bea interrupted. “Don’t you see, Claudia? I might not be able to tie my shoes when this is all said and done, but maybe I can learn to, I don’t know, use a computer or invest in the stock market or Play Bridge!”

Claudia Canfield and Andy Woods have a history so when Claudia's grandmother breaks a couple of bones Claudia returns to Lake Tahoe to be with her. Bea's surprise is that Andy is now Bea's doctor. Bea is a delightful senior with lots of pep and full of fun.

Bea faces hip replacement and relocation to an assisted living facility. Claudia wants to have a second chance with Andy but he is not interested until he meets Paul, their son.

In Mountain Song both Claudia and Andy learn to open up and listen to what is in their hearts and make a home for their son as they become a family. I love happy endings.

Mountain Song presents the issues of dealing with an elderly parent and the tough choices that need to be addressed to help them have a happy and full life to the end. Ruby Laska does an excellent job with these issues and keeps the romance flowing with an adorable little boy to add to the happy family.

This one was okay--I flipped through some parts because how many times do we need to read about how tortured they are around each other? Get to the actual plot. And all this secrecy towards the reader about the son they had together is silly, because the book description already told us about this. Andy is the only one who doesn't know he's a father.

One point about that, too: Claudia makes this big ole deal about how Andy was an absent father for nearly five years. Claudia, honey, that's what happens when you don't tell Baby Daddy that he's a Baby Daddy. He didn't deliberately stay out of Paul's life, he had no idea the child existed. And he's allowed to be shocked, bewildered and yes, pissed off, when you suddenly drop it on him during a pretty stressful time in both of your lives.

I didn't hate this one, or feel like it was a waste of time, but it was quite flawed.

This is a good read but predictable. I get kind of tired of all the secrets and lies but I guess if not for them, novels would get boring.

Andy was a sweet, kind medical student from the wrong side of the tracks. He loved Claudia but does not understand why she ran away from him without a word. He is now her Grandmother's doctor and Grandma's health is in danger.

Claudia comes back into town to aid her ailing Grandma until her father arrives. She is stunned to see Andy again and is more determined than ever to keep her secret from him. She ran away from Andy years before when she felt she was not enough for him. After all, he had never said those three magic words even though they were together everyday.

I recommend this book. It is a sweet story of lost love rekindled.

This was an enjoyable, quick read. Claudia and Andy met five years ago when she was visiting her grandma, Bea, in Lake Tahoe. Claudia was a spoiled heiress and Andy was from the other side of the tracks. They had a summer romance, but it fell apart when Claudia wanted to use her money to help Andy through school. She went back to New Jersey and hadn't been to Tahoe since then. When Bea falls and breaks some bones, Claudia comes out to Tahoe to help her out. She runs into Andy, who turns out to be Bea's doctor. They both sense there is still the attraction, but there is a lot of time and hurt between them. This is a nice, sweet story about them overcoming their misconception about each other and themselves.

Mountain Song was a nice book. Quite a fast read. It has romance, some unresolved issues from the past and a cute little boy named Paul.

What it also has it some problems, which was the reason for me not rounding up the rating in the end. I found it quite annoying how names were often exchanged (ie. Paul instead of Andy and on the other way around) and how some letters seemed to be missing. And then there was the matter of the pace. I don’t know if it was because I read it really fast, but to me everything happened way too fast.

Anyway.

As an overall it was a good book. And I just realized it’s not my first book by Ruby Laska. What they have in common is that they are pretty cute books. I guess it’d worth a try.

The general idea for the story was OK. The editing was bad. (Is it just me or are the majority of books I'm reading not even edited anymore? I should start an online business. For ten bucks, I will read/edit your ebook BEFORE you put it out there for the world - since your current publisher/editor is full of suck.)

Other than that. The usual lack of communication and misunderstandings made this story just so-so. Nothing original.

basically it was a high school sweetheart story, something tragic happens to make them break up. She leaves, and he moves on. She comes back because something tragic happens again. She meets her high school sweetheart and suddenly all the feelings come back up. But there's a problem, there's a child involved in this relationship(his child). She tells him, he freaks and one week later he sees the kid and falls in love with the kid. Pretty sure you can draw your own conclusions.....

Typical romance story. I hate how there was a change in the story. One mine it would be Bea and her talking the. The next paragraph it's Andy. I had to re read pages to make sure I got it..

And why is it all these women get pregnant and leave! Then 5-10 years later they are back!)!?!

Such a cute story and a little bit of heart wrenching when you read and find things out. But totally worth the heart wrenching moments for the ending.

A harmless easy read book. I did find myself skimming a bit over what felt like unnecessary dialogue but on the whole it was pleasant enough.
