I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent most of my summers in Smithfield, Virginia.
I first realized I wanted to be a writer while attending the George Washington Carver High School for Engineering & Science – yes, there was a time when I wanted to be an architect, at least I thought I did. Then, one day, I couldn't take the boredom of another chemistry class and decided to write a novel. It was passed around to all of my classmates, who loved it. I did this several times and realized I had zero talent in math, science, or architecture. I was much better at writing, so I focused on that when I went to university.
In 1995, I chucked living in the US for the good life in Sweden with my Swedish husband.
a beautiful, yet chilling ghost horror love story. A man has been brutalized, assaulted and killed in Sweden, His American wife, who loved him dearly, explores what happened (first person narrative used in a powerful way). She describes how her husband ... isn't exactly ... all that dead. A five-star story for me because of the passion and raw emotion with which it is told.
This was a haunting portrayal of a love that was tragically lost... As I read this short story, I began to wonder just what this story could be, if Ms. Golden would allow it to take its natural course and expand into a full fledged novel.
"Linger: a short story" by Kim Golden was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad she did. This is a wonderful short story about grief and loss and moving on. It's poetic, thoughtful and bittersweet - I absolutely loved it. Very impressive and highly recommendable. Wow.
This made the hairs on my arms stand up...the story was so real and hit close to home. I really wanted more...wanted to know the back story. I realize it was a short story and I will definitely read more from this author.
