I was born on the West Coast, in Loma Linda, California, in 1975, and raised in Beaumont, CA – where some of my book takes place. I grew up with two brothers and one adopted sister. My parents were strong Christians and wonderful parents. They never fought, drank, or cursed; I had to visit my friend’s houses to see that. I was an Eagle Scout and loved to go camping with my family. We spent a lot of time off roading through the desert on ATC and dune buggies. I picked up my love of target shooting from Boy Scout camps. I still love to shoot, and, instead of riding the desert on my ATC, now I ride the waves on my wave runner.
I got married when I was 18, had two boys – Tyler in 1993, and Cory in 1996 – as a young father, I worked at Pizza Hut, until 1997; the same year my first wife and I were divorced.
I had the opportunity to help start a satellite plant in North Carolina for a micro connectors company, so I moved across the country to Salisbury. A year later I was offered a chance to become a tool and die apprentice, and worked as a tool and die maker for nearly nine years.
During these transitions I met the love of my life, Betsy, who is a school teacher. We were married 2003. We welcomed a baby girl, Sonja in 2007. I was unexpectedly laid off while my wife was pregnant. I then began working at a plastic company as a CNC programmer. Once again, after another lay-off in 2009, I decided to be a stay-at-home dad, and also started a computer repair business from home.
Another reason I didn’t return to work when I was laid off in 2009, was to help my parents with my brother, Nick, who was dying of a brain tumor. Nick was my baby brother, three years younger, and my best friend. It was always Nick’s dream to become a writer. I came up with a book idea for my brother to write years ago, but he became too sick, and the story was never written.
There have been a lot of changes in my life in the past five years – jobs, the loss of my brother, the birth of my daughter, and watching my sons grow up so, here I am trying to live out my brother’s dream, and it is to Nick whom I dedicate my first book. I do not consider myself to be a writer. I am, and always will be, a story teller. I have always made up stories in my head, and this is my first one that I wish to share with the world.
I am new to writing, but so far I love it and it has captured my attention completely. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

I enjoyed so much about this book. The humor, wit, characters and of course the story itself. There are no dull moments, it just keeps you anxious to see what happens next. The author mingles the action ,romance and information in such a way that it never gets one sided. It's fun to read and I am anxious see what happens in book 2 and 3. Give it a try, you will be glad you did.

I would like to thank The Cover Contessa and E.B. Hood for granting me the opportunity to read e-book in exchange for an honest review. Though I received this e-book for free that in no way influenced my review. I would actually rate this book 3.5 stars, but the creativity and emotional challenges bump it up to 4 stars (though the typos almost kept it at 3 stars - typos take many readers out of the carefully crafted world the writer has worked so hard to give the readers, and that is never a good thing).

Melanie Dare is a teenage girl. Drugs and abuse by her parents change all that. She is raped and murdered and finds herself awake in a new decade. Melanie becomes Melabeth the vampire, and she is thrust into events outside of her control. Meeting a small circle of friends - not all who can be trusted - she finds herself obsessed with revenge against her killers… but along the way finds love. Her battle for revenge has terrible, unintended consequences, and she will question, who, and what she is. Can her love survive her need for revenge? This is the first part of a three part series about forgiveness.

An action-packed entry into what looks to be a sizzling series, Melabeth The Vampire is a gripping tale of greed, depression, depravity, loss, love, and learning the art of forgiveness. Fifteen-year-old Melanie Elizabeth Dare has led a strange life. Born into a small hippy family, Melanie never had what anyone would call a traditional upbringing. She never attended school due to her parents nomadic ways, picking up and moving to follow a band, or because the stars were aligned just right, etc. Then came the drugs, and Melanie lost her mother to an overdose. Instead if that acting as a wake up call for her father he just sank deeper and deeper into the life of an addict. But he knew if Melanie were seen outside during the day it would cause trouble for him, trouble he didn't need as a drug dealer. Too bad he made the rookie mistake of using his own product. A mistake Melanie paid for with her life.

Next thing she knows is waking up in a grave, dead, but not dead. As she escapes the grave she slowly begins to remember what had happened. Only the end result wasn't quite what anyone expected. Instead of rising in five to seven days, she rose 15 years later. So she left the living world in 1975, only to awaken to a radically changed world of 1990. All she desires is to take revenge on those who hurt and killed her.

As she begins her journey she meets Carrie, a ghost. Carrie had been raped and killed as well, but was thrilled to finally have so done who could see and hear her. The two travel farther, then end up catching a bus. On the bus Melabeth, the name Melanie gave herself for her life as a vampire, meets David. Though she is attracted to him what she experienced was only a month ago in her mind, not fifteen years ago. David also has secrets, most of which he doesn't even know yet.

Carrie stays with David, who has been sent to live with his Mom out of the blue. But Melabeth can't stay there, and when she learns there are other vampires in town she opts to meet them to learn how to be a vampire. Things are strained with the White family at first, but Melabeth soon becomes a member of the family. As she develops her unusual powers, she also develops individual relationships with each member of the White family, as well as continuing her relationship with David, Carrie, and eventually becoming close friends with David's younger sister Lizzie.

Michael White, David, And Lizzie all help Melabeth plan her revenge upon the men who murdered her. They learn that one of the leaders, a powerful sorcerer, masquerades as a high school teacher. The problem is that Lizzie and her family believe in an organization known only as The Order. The Order consists almost entirely of other powerful supernaturals who police their community. But in reality they use their power to fix things to their liking. So when Lizzie tells her parents that they have evidence of what Devon did to Melabeth, her father calls Devon directly, unwittingly setting off a chain reaction that will destroy lives at an atrocious rate.

Throughout this book the action, emotion, and character development are well balanced. As the arc of the story flows, so to does Melabeth's emotional maturity - to a point. By the end of book one Melabeth is teetering on the edge of a blade, one small nudge and she could fall into endless darkness, or she could redeem herself and her love. But will she survive her thirst for vengeance long enough to have the chance? Maybe we'll learn which way she falls in the second book in this series.

What a nice surprise!!! Looking at the cover I was expecting a dark book, and at the beginning I thought that's what I was getting into ...

Melabeth was a happy girl (as happy as she can be with junkie parents), when she was 15 years old, she was betrayed, beaten, raped and killed (and everything was on film ... did you ever see that movie 9mm with Nicholas Cage??? Well ... something like that).

Later, a vampire walking down the street felt lots of mercy and decided to turn her into a vampire. So he prepared the girl and buried her, expecting her to wake up after a couple of days ... well ... sh*t happens ... she woke up, yes, after 15 years, with no clue about how to be a vampire.

After some trial and error, and a fun discovery of her abilities, she hit the road with a purpose: Revenge!!

And that's when things got interesting. Along the way she found some creepy pervert guys (a good snack), made a couple of friends, and there is even a love interest (he's cute!!!). We also got to discover more about the paranormal world, with warlocks, sorceress, witches, werewolves, etc.

Some of the conversations were so funny ... really, the girl grow up on the 70's and woke up in the 90's, so there is some pretty interesting cultural shock.

The only thing that was nagging me a bit was that Melabeth, and some of the other characters, were a bit naïve, I get they are teenagers but most of then had a rough life so I was expecting more

Anyway, this was a good read :P

If you want an urban fantasy with action and funny scenes, go for it :P

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review. I can't thank you enough E.B. Hood, this book was wonderful.

The book starts with a girl clawing herself out of a grave, and believe me, this seems to have been one of her better days! The story takes us through Melabeth learning how to be a vampire.....now take everything you know about vampires and throw that knowledge out of a window. E.B. Hood has his own take on vampires and I absolutely love it! Not only does Melabeth have to learn about being a vampire but she is obsessed with plotting revenge on the men who murdered her...I can't blame her as they were horrible people and she was much too young to have to suffer the way she did.

The people Melabeth met along her way were an interesting bunch. I loved Carrie, she has so much energy and I liked the way she never shut up. I think she was one of my favorite characters.

Another of my favorites was Alice, she could be so child like and mean sometimes. I never knew what to expect from her, she was full of surprises.

The character development in this story was great. Not just Melabeth but Michael, David and Lizzy as well. Charlotte was awesome!

This book isn't completely dark, there are some comical moments also. I am looking forward to reading the next book. I loved this one. Give it a try, I'm sure you will like it too!

Was very pleasantly surprised by this book, it was exciting reading and not at all what I was expecting. The book was on offer for free, so I thought I'd give it a go expecting it to be another teen vampire romance/high school based load of dross, and I couldn't have been more wrong. The storyline was action packed and quite original with some very interesting characters that made the book run along at a fare pace. It did however suffer from a lot of errors in the writing ,wrong words put in and words repeated which was annoying and has stopped me giving it five stars. This seems to be common on kindle books, it's like they were never proof read properly. Still don't let that put you off it was a lot of fun, and when I finished I found there was a second book in the series which I promptly bought.

Love the picture on the cover, it really catches the eye. As I read this book I could not wait to see what happens next from chapter to chapter. I am impressed with the way the author develops the characters and there are a lot of interesting ones. I felt as if I were watching a movie as I read, because the scenes are so well written; from the action scenes to the interaction between the characters. This is a great book to read and I am looking forward to the second and third book in the series.
I have read all the Twilight books and Last Sacrifice and lots of other Novels and I highly recommend you read Melabeth for yourself you will love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY THOUGHTS

Wow! I really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I’m not that big of a paranormal reader4, but since I was asked to read a book, I never turned down a book.

It took me a little bit to get into the book. I felt it was a little slow in the beginning than BAM the book got soo good I could not but it down. Mr. Hood has so many good twists and page turner moments that you will not be able to put the book down and of course you will need to start book 2 right away, which I have and in the process of reading right now!!!!

I secretly wished that Michael and Melabeth would have had a thing, maybe they will in the future, but I was rooting for them throughout the book. I don’t know how I feel about David yet. But the characters, in my opinion are wonderful!

READ it you will not be disappointed!

THANK YOU AGAIN MR. HOOD FOR ASKING ME TO READ THIS BOOK!!

Every so often an author comes along that takes a familiar story and turns it on its head. Well tread plots lines and characters become fresh again. The story becomes a shining example of how to take something familiar and make it interesting. I recently picked up a copy of Malabeth on my Kindle. Not sure what to expect I forged ahead and felt comfortable almost immediately. E. B. Hood's freshman outing had a few examples of leaps in continuity at the start but as the novel progressed the story became riveting and the characters well rounded. What I found most intriguing about the book is the way that Hood approached the legends and myths associated with well know creatures and magical beings. Vampire lore, well established since time immorium, is approached quite differently. Sure the normal tenants are present but there is new and fresh examples of the vampire mythology that were wonderful. I will not disclose everything in this review because I feel it is important to sit and read through. Discovering his way of looking at these, now all too familiar, creatures like vampires, wizards, werewolves, ghosts and the rest of the pantheon of nightmarish denizens of the night was the most important factor of my need to turn each page.
Having read many books in this genre over the years I figured I would be reading something similar to all those in the past. However, once the novel hit its stride it never let me down. I look forward to reading E. B. Hood's sophmore novel when it is released and hope that his unique views and characters will not disappoint. As for his first attempt I was thoroughly impressed and could see his comfort in writing increase with each page.

I think I was expecting something a lot darker, or grittier, from the blurb.

That said, I was easily absorbed by the voice of the narrator, Melbeth was an easy to link to character. But (there's always a but) the writing itself had a fair few clangers and I found myself itching for the red marker pen more than once... If it were on paper I might have even done it, but my Kindle wouldn't have approved of it's new make-over, even if it was grammatically correct.

Heh.

This story itself has real potential. A great hook, if not a little cliché, but I wanted Melbeth to freak it way before she actually did. 'Oh, a coffin, oh, I'm a vampire' - why would you come to that natural conclusion so soon? And so cool and calm. There was a missing element of disbelief and denial.

I was worried at first that it was all going to be 'Solomon Grundy' style. The initial memories were too 'and then and then and then' with hard description: 'she looked like this, weighed this much, walked that way'

I was much relieved, because this seems to improve greatly in the second half the book.

Hmm, I don't want to seem like I'm slamming this book too hard, because I did enjoy the read. It was easily done over two nights. And I was compelled to follow Melbeth's plight.

A solid 3 stars.

Firts off I want to thank the author for allowing me to read his book.

Melabeth is a 15 year old vampire who had a tragic past as Melanie Elizabeth Dare. Her drug addict father sold her to some very bad men. These men raped and murdered poor Melanie. She was however saved by a vampire named Nicks. She awoke from the grave 15 years later in 1990. She was fuled by anger and revenge to kill themen who did this to her.
At first I thought this was going to be a very dark and disturbing book, and the first few chapters explaining her back story were. The book did lighten up and even made me laugh in a few places. Melabeth the vampire is a combination of her first and middle name ( great story of how that happens). The characters are very well written out and had lots of personality! I was actually able to visualize them in my head as the story unfolded itself. I was a little dissappointed in the fact that we didnt learn why she took so long to rise from the garve or why she was so powerful. I know we have to wait till the next book to find out more. I will be getting book 2 and I think this is a must read.

*The author sent me this book in exchange for a honest review.*

Describe this book in eight words or less- Paranormal romance with modern teen issues.

What I liked about it- The characters were well developed (especially for a first time author). They had feelings conveyed easily by the text and their personalities were realistic.

What I didn't like about it- There were more than a few grammatical errors, the dialogue was often choppy, and the storyline was often confusing for me. The grammatical errors are to be expected with self publishing, but I believe if the author had one more person read this novel the errors would have been cut in half. The dialogue was very much "he said then she said". Instead I would have liked to read more of "she shivered as she pulled her coat around her" instead of "she was cold". All in all, for a first time self published author, the storyline was good and the noel would be enjoyable to someone who didn't have much experience with grammar or editing.

What is the age range for this novel?- The age range would be anywhere from (a mature) 15 years old to 28 years old.

Star rating- 2.5 out of 5 stars

I was given this book for a honest review.....Thank you to E. B. Hood!

At first, I wasn't sure what to make of the this story, it actually started with a freaky beginning!!! We find Melabeth digging, yes digging her way out of a grave and from there she snags you in and you become part of her journey. The start was a little slow but you soon find that you just can't not go back and continue the story with her. She has so much bad happen to her that you just connect with her even though she makes quite a few mistakes of her own until she meets Carrie, and then David. She realizes that David is something she has never encountered before and the sparks fly! She also begins to believe that she is even different than the other vampires that she meets and that she is something so totally different that she will make her mark on the world!
Again, thank you so much E. B., for letting me enjoy this wonderful journey with Melabeth!
Please let me know when you write Book 2, I would so love to read and review that one also.

I was on a group site & this guy was shamelessly promoting his book & I thought (omg i HAVE to read this just to see what crap a 1st time author is pushing)well crap it is NOT. A few random spelling/grammar mistakes have become so common place that can we even really complain about them anymore?

Melabeth is a 15yr old hippie who is raped & murdered because her father is a complete POS. I have yet to master a review without spoilers but I am really going to try because this book is that good. Some of the transitions happen so fast that its hard to keep up with her. The culture shock of rising into a new year makes for some good laughs. The characters she meets along the way are funny, crazy, & some are just what a vampire should be. She starts out uneducated and naive but ends up fierce & determined. I look forward to Melabeths journey & can't wait to see the angry chick justice she dishes out!!

The Journey she had to undertake was a hard one. She did not really start living till after she died!. I found this book to be a great addition to the vampire genre. I have read everything from Lumleys version of vampire to the twilight series. I love all things vampire. But what fascinates me most is the creativity of the characters. Melabeth and David understood their chooses and tried to be the best of who they could be. Life was not and will never be easy for them they are different and in being different people seem to judge. I see in this book defenders of strange, but greatness of choose will define them for they seem to be within a power struggle to be true to themselves. they both tend to be older then their age and have made the best decisions for themselves. If they can keep up with that and watch out for others they will have a full life together in what I hope will have many future stories!

I enjoyed this book. I liked the way we learn how Melanie become melabeth. E.B. Hood is very good at writing in a way you can see in your mind what is happening on paper. I found it interesting that she could see things using sound, like a bat making a high pitched sound so it can see whats around it I like the way the author introduced the new characters and had a variety of different supernatural creatures in this book. i think the friendship between the characters was very touching. I am a big fan of vampire books and was not disappointed with this book. It ticked all the boxes for books i like. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait till the next one!

It was amazing! I loved it, i can not wait for the next book! I love Melabeth's attitude towards everything, she makes an amazing vampire. I kind of wish that she would end up with Micheal. But other than that, i thought it was something different from the usual vampire stories, something new and fresh. I would recommend this book to anyone. Truly loved it.

Just finished reading this book and I really loved it. Such a different story line for a vampire story. I was up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it because I just couldn't put it down. It takes a great story for that to happen. Needless to say I purchased the next one today to start reading it tonight. I can't wait to see where Melabeth's story takes me.

*I have received a copy from the author for an honest review.*

I can hardly remember when I last read a book with vampires and other supernaturals that was this good. I practically had an adrenalin rush through the whole book. I just couldn't put it down.
The plot was awesome and very well put together, I love a good planed out revenge. It is very sad though that even the best thought-out plans don't always end the way you want. I am so sad about what David had to go through and I perfectly understand his need for revenge.

I have so much empathy for our Melabeth, for what she went through. I really respect her because she is a survivor and more, a fighter. All the monstrosities she has suffered made her stronger and fueled her anger and need for revenge. I admire her for her accomplishments. She is truly special, even among the vampire kind, gifted beyond her peers understanding. For being such a young vampire she surely surpasses many of the old ones. I loved that she has gained such a good control over her powers in such a small amount of time. Her being bloodthirsty may be due to her vampire nature but I bet it has something to do with all the hell she has endured in her small time she lived. Let' face it, her parents were so far off role models they couldn't even spell the words. I despise such horrible excuses for human beings. They should not be allowed to procreate. I am in awe of the amazing person Melabeth came to be taking into account her origins. I always thought that rape is about control and power. The rapist doesn't feel man enough till he has complete control of the victim, control over the body, the soul and the mind. Well in this case, they had control of the body but the soul and the mind remained her own. That strength over there is so hard to hold on to. It's near impossible. Maybe few women that have experienced this kind of traumatic event ever recover fully. For the most there remains a stain on the soul that never lets them have their guard down around men and they never give their trust completely. I am glad Melabeth is surrounded by such good friends that help her move over her heartbreak and trauma.

David is the best thing that could have happened upon our heroine. He is perfect for her. He completes her in ways only true love can. He is the light to her darkness, he really sees into her soul and know what's beyond her hard remarks and tough facade. I am so so sorry for his terrible loss and I fear that he will change greatly, becoming less the easygoing boy he was and more of a darker spirited guy. I think the loss he has suffered will really affect his relationship with Carrie and Melabeth.

Carrie is the friend every girl should have. I loved her funk. She is such a fun character that always brings a smile to my lips when I read her lines. She was loyal, hilarious, talkative, steady and so brave. What more could somebody want from a ghost? I am really glad the two girls met because this book would have been o much poorer without her character in it.

The White family, I consider them as a foster family to or little vampire prodigy. They were amazing all of them, well maybe not Lea :) but Ezra, Alice, Charlotte and Michael sure were. I loved them to bits for accepting Melabeth into their fold so quickly and so completely.

I am on to read the sequel because I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Fingers crossed X

As a little context, Melanie, the heroine, is fifteen years old so officially this book fits into the young adult category. But due to the adult themes I think it is more appropriate for an adult audience. On to the review.

Wow! This story is jam packed with action and drama. If I were to sum it up in one word, I'd enthusiastically say that this story is very interesting. And by that I mean it kept my attention riveted until 6 a.m. when I finally had to sleep a tiny bit before picking it up again.

Melanie is born to careless parents. Her mother dies of a heroine overdose and her father ends up allowing some thugs to take her from him when he couldn't repay a drug debt. She's brought to a house where a pedophile forces her take part in a pornographic movie with the same thugs who captured her. At the end of the movie, he has one of her "partners" kill her. Thankfully, all this bad stuff is highly glossed over and just sets the history.

A vampire named Nicks finds her in a trash can and tries to turn her. He puts her in the ground where she's supposed to arise in five days. Instead, fifteen years later she wakes up in the coffin, trying to remember what happened to her. She escapes the coffin and thus Melabeth is born. Her sole purpose in life is to find the men who defiled her and killed her. And she's not looking for justice. She's looking for VENGEANCE. Trust me, you will want her to find it too.

Naturally, after fifteen years Nicks gave up that she would ever rise and had moved on, so she has to navigate learning the rules of being a vampire on her own. Most of the story takes place after she's been born again as a vampire. It documents in vivid detail the confusion and cluelessness of a newly born bloodsucker as she navigates the new world.

The story that follows is filled with tentative love interests, first friends, necromancers, sorcerers, witches, a new vampire family, and plenty of blood, death, and destruction. Not to mention a crazy vampire named Alice who was turned at age fourteen but is over four hundred years old.

Besides Alice, who I absolutely hated at first then came to adore for her wicked ways, I really enjoyed the way Mr. Hood described Melabeth's awakening within the coffin. He also does some interesting things with flashbacks and memories, weaving them seamlessly into the story. Not all authors can do that well and Mr. Hood does.

I recommend this book for adults who enjoy vengeful minded non-sparkly vampires and great action. The romance is extremely light, so if romance isn't your thing, this book should still do the trick.

This story starts out with Melanie Dare digging out of her grave....yes you read correctly...digging OUT of her grave. While she is digging out, we get a glimpse of her past while she is reliving it in her mind and details on how she got to this current point in her life. It seems her hippie parents got involved with drugs and eventually her mother died of overdose. Life with her father became somewhat dreary as he turned to dealing drugs in order to support his lifestyle and feed him and Melanie. When he spends the drug money that was supposed to go to his dealer, he sells out his daughter in exchange for his debt (He definitely doesn't get the Father of the Year Award in my book!). The men who took Melanie decided to make a snuff film to recoup the loss of the drug money with the star of the show being Melanie. As all snuff films go, Melanie was killed. Next thing she knows, she is being carried by a guy named Nicks who briefly explains that he has turned her into a Vampire, but the change might not work. If it does take, she should wake up in her grave within 5 to 7 days. Once Melanie gets out of the grave and takes care of her immediate hunger, she discovers that not only is she in Colorado, it is 15 years later and things certainly have changed in the world.

Deciding to call herself Melabeth (a combination of her first and middle name) she sets out to find her killers and seek revenge for her death. On her journey back to California, she becomes friends with an unlikely pair...Carrie, a ghost and David, who can see ghosts. Oh, and David has another nifty gift as well, but you will have to read the book to find out what that is. Melabeth also meets up with a Vampire family – The Whites - and will finally learn how to refine her abilities and train to prepare for her biggest battle yet and get revenge on the man responsible for her death.

With a plot and characters that are both unique and captivating, made this was a very entertaining book that was a pure joy to read. It was thrilling and action-packed and was nearly impossible to put down once I started. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good action-packed vampire story with a dash of romance.

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review...

O.M.G. I love this book! It was been a while since I read a good vampire read! this book is sad, funny, and will have you at the edge of your seat to see what happens next. I am excited and mad that i found out their was a second book. so THEY HAVE A SECOND BOOK!!!!! i have to read it!!!!!!

this book is about a girl named Melabeth. This is not her real name, she changed it after what happened to her. She was taken by a bunch of thugs because her father made some poor decisions. Now, she knew what was about to happen wasn't going to be good. These Bikers each had her way with her and killed her. Luckily, a man was attracted to her and changed her into a vampire.... WHAT! WHAT!

Now Melabeth only has one thing on her mind revenge. FUCK YEA!!!! she was going to get those guys good. The only problem was that she was in the ground for over 15 years. She has no idea how the world works. Everything has changed and she finding out fast how things went. First things first, she needed to find a place to stay!
Melabeth will find herself in bad situations. You will have to read and find out what they are! she will become friends with a ghost, and finally find some vampires! She becomes a family with these group of vampires. They each have great personalities which you will find your own favorites. Mine personally are Alice, and Micheal. I really wish that Micheal and Melabeth would have been more. So, CROSSING MY FINGERS BECAUSE I AM TOTALLY TEAM MICHAEL!!

Melabeth has to go to school so she can finish her plan for revenge. With the help of her new vampires she finally knows the in's/out's of being a vampire. She falls in love with a death warlock ( it was the easiest way to explain it) so long story short his family hates her because she is the vampire and her family hates him because he is a witch. lol

Melabeth finds herself in a sticky situation with the ORDER. they are like police for the supernatural. When she finds herself face to face with her attacker will she be able to follow thru with her revenge or will someone she trust back stab her and ruin everything. Will love get in the way of her revenge, or a new starting love change things forever?!

I just read Melabeth the Vampire by E.B. Hood and I have got to say it is not what I expected and in a good way.

I give it five stars and recommend it to all paranormal lovers. There is more than vampires in this one. Also, it's not just another tween vampire novel; it's suitable for adults.

The opening line lets you know this novel is geared towards teens, however Hood's linguistic development and themes left me with the impression that this novel can be enjoyed beyond the teen trope.

Although Melabeth is put through several trials that cause her to grow up faster than the average teenager; she still holds a spark of innocence. I am very impressed by Hood's ability to make me feel like Melabeth is older than her age and yet still holds a juvenile innocence all at the same time. However, I didn't see much growth from her character. E.B. Hood's growth development lies within the supporting character of David. David's character goes through so many changes I do not know where to start (i say read the book because it's a 180). I found David's change the most interesting and for that reason alone I will read book two.

Other important things about this book include: E.B. Hood's ability to create a multi-species community with believable mythology works well within the one universe. He also has a strong ability to create well rounded character; even Hood's static characters are not flat, and his introduction into his vampire world was smooth without a lot of information being dropped on you at once. I hate when the author just rambles off all the rules in a paragraph. Hood explanations come with a show instead of just tell.

Mild spoiler alert in final comments bellow:
There is more but I'll let you read it to find out, but one last thing the character Melanie is fabulous. How he came up with leeching a spirit to certain souls is amazing.
