She's told she's someone special; a Charmed, and the key to winning in a battle of worlds about to collide. Only problem is, she can be a weapon of good or a weapon of bad, depending on who gets to her first.

This was one of those books for me. A story I had to tear myself away from to make food. A book that I woke up in the morning excited to keep reading. One of those awesome books where you are sad that the adventure had come to an end. If you are searching for a story to get lost in, you will love this one! I believe a great book is one in which I re-read. This book is a re-read in the future for me!

So this gets a whooping 4.5 from me, and continuing with this crazy stupid idea of mine trying to assign a song to help you understand the book a little better um my suggestion for this would be... "Soon We'll Be Found" by Sia. its a great song one of my personal favorites. also i will also suggest again "Multiply the Heartache" by Cake - seriously this is the second time i've said this song im not trying to push it on people it just works a lot... so okay you don't care what i have to say about that but about this book!

OMGOSH, i guess i should start off by saying i am super happy that i stumbled upon this because it was totally worth the read. I started the sample on Amazon i didn't even get half way through the sample before i decided i needed to read this entire book! talk about amazing! UGH God i really did love this but it was close getting just for four from me but i will tell you why it didn't get that allusive 5 from me in a moment but for now let me tell you why i loved it.

The voice of the main character our narrator was AMAZING like i don't think that i laughed that hard within the first three pages of a book in a very long time. i loved LOVED the voice of the character and i would recommend this book to read just because of Taryn (the narrator) one of my all time favorite quotes from this book and there were so many:

"Strangely enough, this was the first time someone had ever attempted to kidnap me. I decided I really didn't like it."

Okay so back to what i was saying before. The voice of the narrator is so strong, so funny, and smart-ass-ery? that i just fell in love with the voice and would have read the book just for that reason alone but since i am talking about Taryn already i guess i will do characters first and continue on. Well Taryn doesn't have that "bad" life a lot of main characters seem to have...or at least books that i read, anyways she is adopted though and her parents are distant, but we never met them - her adoptive parents i mean because obviously her biological parents are distant...okay moving on. She is a little just a little cynical - and yes i am being sarcastic when i say a little but i think you got that. Anywhos she is interesting because she doubts herself, and she doesn't think she is worthy. and you know what? i loved that because it made her more human, someone i can connect with and man seriously i loved Taryn

So okay lets move on to the gents of the book shall we?

I guess we will start with Creed because we meet him first...he is a Manang - which is a half man half angel from a different planet. yup. see this is where that 4.5 came in, i just got done ranting to my friend about this a couple days ago about how if you are going to do aliens just call them what they are, they can have angel like qualities but finding out they were from a different planet i couldn't think they were angels. no wings, just angelic looking. so there i said it. there is something else but i will get to that much later.

So Creed he is Manang, he is a flirt, arrogant, annoying, full of himself and oddly sweet. He is very caring when he needs to be and is very discreet about it. When we meet him it is definitely memorable i wasn't sure if i wanted to jump him or slap him. a little of both i think... he is an interesting character that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Yes he is a love interest well one of them

Yup you guessed it is a love triangle don't worry i will explain something after i talk about Luke

Luke is the opposite of Creed...physically, he is tall (Creed is too that is where their similarities end for the most part) he is dark, he is broody. He is the serious boy with a scowl that would put your mother's scowl to shame! TO SHAME!!! okay anyways but when he is with Taryn he is a totally new person i didn't know what to do with him when we first meet him because he is difficult to figure out. At one point he is joking the next he doesn't want to thing to do with you. in the end though he is protective and loyal. He makes your heart race and makes you with you were the one receiving his kisses unless that aint your thing...then this is awkward...

So there were quite a few side characters but i don't really want to go into much details about them just because i don't really want to be up much longer and also because i don't want to give anything away so i am going to move onto plot.

PLOT: so i thought it was original and new. there were new ideas introduced, and i really liked it. yeah it was the age old good vs evil but their were twists that i didn't see coming but the author gave you clues on a lot of things so there were a lot of things that i did figure out long before they happened. I think though that it is intriguing enough that as a paranormal fan it is totally worth the read.

so the ending confused me a bit...that is the other reason you are seeing 4.5 vs 5. and i don't understand how this is a series? because it could really be done...well it should be really. but hey what do i know? i didn't write the book just this review so i will be checking out what is going on in the second one but no cliffhangers here kids so you can relax.

so there you go my review GIF free well sooner or later i will figure out how to use them and it will bother the hell out of everyone around me. But hey it will be fun right? well anyways i just wanted to say if you enjoyed this review and you want to find more obscure books out there well you are in luck because that is what i have been reading mostly so come on over and check out my blog that i share with a friend hopefully we can show you a good time ;) and get more authors noticed... http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp... thanks kids for reading this if you did, poo on you if you didn't but not really because yeahh...

Readability: Very readable and easy to follow.
Hook: The chapter definitely left me wanting for more. A lot happened in the short time and I would like to know more.
Editing: There are a couple of run-on sentences, fragments and at least one occurrence of wrong word used.
Characters: We are introduced to three characters, Shah, the man with the black everything, The Angel that fell from the sky and crushed her car roof just to get her attention, and the main character Taryn Each was described well and there was good character development in Taryn and the Angel.
Understandable: It was easy to follow everything that was going on in the story.
Visuals: There were excellent visuals in the story. The leaves blew in the wind regardless of the fact that Taryn ignored them and put on her dark sunglasses. I also got a good idea of the visual actions going on in the scene.
Relatable: I can relate to the awkward birthdays and not trusting strangers. Thinking an Angel is hunky – not so much, but then again I am a guy. I related more to the Angel in this case because he is more like I would want to be: The hero of a red-head with freckles, even if she does not see me as the hero yet.
Fun: The story was definitely fun to read and follow.
Overall: Overall, this was a great read and I would suggest it to my friends. There were minor editing issues but those did not detract too much from the story.
Synopsis: A girl turns eighteen and is heading out to work. She gets accosted by two different mysterious people and has to choose which one is less scary to go with.
Favorite line: Had everyone taken a spastic pill and forgot to mention it to me?
Favorite character: The Angel. Definitely the Angel.

This was a really good book. The action and adventure starts from the very beginning and continues pretty much throughout the entire book. This book has action/suspense/a little romance all rolled into one. I only wish we would have gotten to learn more about the Manang’s. I think there is definitely more than meets the eye with them. I hope that there will be a book with more about them in it. The writer is very good at describing how things progress throughout the book…so much so that once I started I didn’t stop until I finished the entire thing. This book was a first for me by Lindy Zart but I sure hope that it won’t be the last I read by her. Very enjoyable read!!

The Charmed Life of Taryn by Lindy Zart
Do you like action, romance, and spine tingling suspense? Well this book hits the trifecta of all three. Lindy Zart is incapable of writing a bad book. She always makes the characters believable and ones that you can easily relate to.

Taryn is the main female character that you can easily relate too. Clumsy, eclectic, and unaware of how special she is. That is until her birthday and her life changes drastically. Taryn, might be one of my favorite characters ever created by Lindy Zart.

The story was beautifully crafted and came at you with steady paced action and suspense. The characters showed growth throughout the story. I will definitely recommend this story to everyone who loves to read. I give it 5/5 Platypires.

From the rash of amazing reviews of this book, I went in assuming reading it would be time and money well spent. It was...to a point. I'll insert my 'updates' on this book into this review to give you a sense of what I mean.

3/09 12%: "Yep. Seems legit."

3/11 16%: "Not really liking how we just got thrown into the thick of things with absolutely no set up or background on our MC. I assumed I'd be let in on her secrets in the next coming chapters...nope. As long as I ignore the fact that I'm reading about a perfect stranger who was attracted to her sort-of abductor, I think I'll be okay. Must suspend reality a touch and a half more."

3/11 24%: "I don't like Creed. He's arrogant and entitled. Not a flattering mix."

3/12 32%: "Isn't this awkward? Infuriated. I want to be in love with this book but the emotional leaps are wigging me out. I still like the book but I just wish there was more...just MORE. Ay Dios."

3/12 38%: "This love triangle is tap dancing on my last nerve. It feels kind of forced."

3/13 49%: "Aaaand there it is. Something shifted. And NOT in a good way. *Groans* This book is tap dancing toward he dnf shelf. *Spoiler* It's been like a week and a half- give or take - and already Taryn is acting like a lovesick schoolgirl. I dislike this."

3/14 55%: "Now I'm solidly in the 'Not Feeling it' column. It's melodramatic, extremely rushed, a little all over the place and I just don't feel the drama going on, on the pages. And it was doing so well, too."

3/14 64%:"Yeah. I don't want to read this anymore. So rushed. And it's only 265 pages ffs! There's no reason this wasn't taken slower."

I have no idea what happened past 64%. There was nothing that inspired me to keep reading.

Let's take it from the top....ish, shall we?

Rokie Dokie.

Taryn is our MC. Orphaned, just turned 18, sarcasm embodied - which was a plus, in my eyes. But that's really all we know about her. Oh, and apparently she has bad birthdays. All the time. Whatevs.

From the start, we're thrown right into the middle of stuff going on. I say stuff because that's what it felt like. Like, Zart had an entire two or three chapters before this and just decided to cut them out and start off a book with strange men luring her with their eyes and denting the roof of her car. There's some running, some questioning, some checking out of the douche who trashed her car. But ultimately Taryn goes with him.

As if she has no job, no apartment, no parents and evidently, no sense, either. Still, I didn't care. Taryn's voice in this book was so strong and SO likeable, it made of a lot of the other boring stuff tolerable because she is such a joy to read...to a point.

There are Manang's - which is exactly what they look like. Man-Angels. Let me just tell you how much this term/identifier for this race of beings GRINDS my forking gears. It's almost like, really Zart? Is that what you're giving me after you introduce one of the best MC's/Protagonists I've read in good while?

disappointed gif photo: Andy-Disappointed.gif

Disappointing to say the very least.

Anysnooch, Taryn allows Stranger to drive her out of the state and eventually they make it to a house full of other strangers where they tell her she is a Charmed. And Of COURSE she is the strongest/best/last hope/ final Charmed to walk the earth. She'll save them in an upcoming war...yadda, yadda, yadda. You catch my drift.

Some things happen, she gets trained - OH! I'm forgetting the part where Creed - Stranger Who Dented Our Car - Claims her. Which would technically make her a Pitied [Don't EVEN get me started on that term, either.] which is also what it sounds like. Basically, a brainless slave to their Man-Angels who basically are a source of sexual entertainment that eventually die because the Man-Angels have siphoned off their life force and used it to extend their own. Sounds SUPA FUN, right?

thumbs up gif photo: tumblr_lez4neSTn91qbncy4.gif

Yeah. Any-hoot. Taryn gets trained, starts falling in love with Luke - her Guardian who does what a Guardian should - starts falling for Creed - her sworn Protector who also does what a Protector should. Although he's an arrogant ass. - Whom she barely likes on a regular basis but somehow she manages to fall for them both.

This is where the aforementioned forced love triangle comes into play. Taryn has been at this house full of STRANGERS for only a few weeks - give or take - and she's managed to find time to fall for both of them, train physically, feel like she's always being watched, learn about her heritage, make friends, find out her dad is a traitor, find out she has a twin sister, TRUST these strangers implicitly - blabiddy blah. It was just SO much crammed into the book, I couldn't help but roll my eyes for over half of what I read.

Throughout all this, I don't feel like any of it pushed the plot along any further. There's supposed to be a war coming but I just didn't feel the urgency that the writing implied I should be feeling.

Okay, the writing. It was really, really well written, most of the characters were engaging, minimal grammatical errors and I almost immediately fell in love with the MC. But that was really all I liked. It felt like she had a good premise going but not enough was happening to make me believe shit was about to go DOWN and that I should be on the edge of my seat wondering what happens next. I had to suspend reality too much to believe this and I just can't be bothered to do it. I wasn't inspired to keep reading and that really sucked. Because it started out so promising.

I got this book a couple weeks ago for my Kindle. It took interesting enough, so I put it up towards the top of my "TO READ" list (some books end up on the list for years). Finally, about a week after I got it, I decided to read it. It helped that I was heckled by Tawnya. I read the first paragraph and sighed - convinced I just got myself into some silly teen drama that I'd have to force myself to read. I'll admit, I put off reading the book for a couple days because of it. ...but then I started it. Actually started it.

One word to explain what happened once I passed page one: DAMN. That's right, I said it. I had to force myself to put the book down a few times, because I swear I stopped breathing in certain parts. (Lindy Zart is obviously trying to kill me, just want you all to know this)

All and all, it was a great story. Truly it was. I was able to get into the characters, and I liked them. They felt real.

Loved these characters, Taryn, Luke and Creed...you feel for them through out the story and get emotionally involved in their lives and hope all ends well for each of them..I was torn between rooting for Creed and Taryn being together or having Taryn and Luke together. All the characters were well written and the story line very imaginative, the author goes great lengths in her writing getting the reader to feel part of the story. The good vs evil was well written and very creatively done...I won't say more to ruin the story but its a much recommended read.

Lindy Zart really hooks you from the first page with any book you read of hers but this one grabs you hook, line and sinker.
Taryn is normal, or so she believes, til the day she turns 18 and heads to work on what she thinks will be a normal day. But no she is rescued from a dark hooded and creepy guy by another kind of creepy guy. From there things get weird for her. I won't spoil it with the why........but just know that it's one hell of a read with a fantastic plot and we'll developed characters.

When I first started reading this book I felt I was not going to be able to finish it - I am a strong believer in Christ and I know He is the Savior and has paid the highest price to save mankind if they only believe, "But" -as I read and got my mind around it as entertainment I got where I could not "shelf" it. I enjoy the way Lindy writes: it is tho you are there like a unspoken character in her books and "Charmed" is an excellant read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good book!

Lindy Zart's Charmed is a creative twist on the supernatural. There are hints and influences of some of our favorites but the author definitely owns her own story and draws the reader in. Just when you think you know what's happening, you don't. The author writes in a way that flows for you and you don't even know you're reading- a story is just unfolding. As soon as I was finished, I went on to the next book.

My 12 year old daughter read this book before I did, and she was so not happy with the ending. Guess what? I contacted the author (as others did), and there will be more! I have now read the book and developed connections to these characters. We are both so excited to read more about Creed, Taryn, and Luke! Cannot wait for Charmed Again!

Check out more of my reviews on my blog http://gemmareadstoomuch.co.uk

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’ve got to say that the Blurb intrigued me.

Please be warned this review contains spoilers so read at your peril.

I enjoy a good PNR but I’ve got to the point where to stand out in a saturated PNR market I need the books to be a little different.

This book tried to be different, or at least it tried to put a new supernatural spin on a classic trope.

The love triangle. Some love it, some loath it. Personally I enjoy a good triangle with the right characters.

And for me that’s where this book slightly misses the mark. Taryn is great, she’s sarcastic and dry. I loved the snarky banter she had that added a witty humour to quite a tense storyline.

Unfortunately neither Luke nor Creed really hit the mark on swoon worthy men. Luke was barely there, the token nice guy who lust after the girl but doesn’t get her. Or at least that’s what his role should have been. He wasn’t strong enough to be the winning guy.

Creed had so much potential he fought a good fight, until he stopped. I don’t understand why he didn’t fight harder for her because she could have been swayed.

For me this was the theme for the rest of this book. It was almost action packed, except we got endless build up but no real action. It was almost an epic race on race good vs. evil battle except it sort of ended before it started.

It just never quite hit the mark for me. It’s a shame because I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately I just didn’t

3 stars.

I enjoyed Charmed from cover to cover. Enjoyed, doesn’t really even encompass the way I felt while reading Charmed. Taryn had me hooked with her story by the end of the first chapter and her dislike of surprises and birthdays. She was instantly relatable and I loved her from the get go (sometimes, it takes me a while to like some female characters)! Then Lindy Zart introduces Creed. This jaw droppingly gorgeous manang sent to protect Taryn and his mix of nonchalant yet protective nature only increases his swoon factor. Oh, and you won’t stop falling in love there. Wait till you meet Luke who gives Creed a run for his money and soon you’ll be stuck in the book hangover debate of which one you love more. I still can’t decide…Personally, I’ll take one of each. Every time you think you figured something out, Lindy surprises you with another twist.

Every character throughout the entire story displays their own development and growth, each one also contributes to the overall plot, keeping you intrigued. There’s Mora, Eli, Reece, Shah and more who add their own flare and twists to the plot line. Lindy commands her character’s beautifully throughout and will capture your attention with the fast paced thrill ride that is Taryn’s charmed life. Although there were a couple spots where I thought some moments passed to quickly or maybe I thought Taryn’s reaction should exuded more emotion, it doesn’t affect the flow or story as a whole.

There really is a spot I’d like to talk about and a couple characters but I don’t want to spoil any of the awesome parts for you! Lindy goes as far as to introduce a third character who will seek his own attention from your heart strings.

Overall I loved this book and am already anticipating reading book two (Charmed Again). Lindy Zart definitely Charmed me with the first novel in this series. The plot line was constant and engaging throughout the entire tale. She wove a flawless story and there weren’t any contradictions considering the world building Lindy accomplished. Her world involving the Charmed, Manangs and Deadeyes came alive through her use of detail. Lindy used her talent for description and dialogue to bring her world alive through Taryn and the rest of the cast. Every page was a treat and I found myself on the edge of my seat and daydreaming outcomes when I was stuck sitting in class.

I loved this book. If you haven’t read Lindy Zart’s books, you need too. Seriously, be Charmed. She’ll wrap you around her finger by the end of the first chapter. Lindy kept me guessing (and wishing) until the very end.

This book was everything a paranormal romance should be. It had a great heroine, two great heroes, and a whole lot of super powers.
Taryn was a great heroine. Having been thrust into this world she never knew existed, I felt like she adapted well but still questioned things. She was very realistic in the sense that she acted very much like what any 18 year old who had this bomb dropped on them would.
Luke and Creed were both great heroes. Luke was your strong, good guy type and Creed was your supposed bad boy with a hidden heart. Both hot because, duh… :) I honestly wasn’t sure who I wanted her to end up with. I normally hate love triangles, but this one didn’t bother me so much. Taryn was pretty honest with who she knew she wanted from the get go. She still admitted to having feelings for the other, but she always knew who she wanted to 100% be with.
I thought the development of Taryn and Creed’s relationship was perfect. There was the obvious instant attraction and witty banter we’ve come to know and love from Lindy Zart novels. That being said, Taryn and Luke’s relationship could have been developed a little more. It felt a little hurried in the beginning instead of having a slow build up. It seemed like he went from cold to hot fairly quickly. That’s not to say their attraction wasn’t believable, it definitely was, but I would have liked more of a build- up.
The ending was very intense. The battle scene was tragic and sad and completely action packed. I liked reading about how all the secondary characters were using their powers since we only got glimpses of them throughout the book.
Though I have questions about that, it didn’t affect my overall opinion of this book.
Overall, I highly recommend this book. It actually reminded me of a shorter version of the Covenant Series (sans Greeks) by Jennifer Armentrout (which is one of my faves, so that’s a great thing!) Pick this up! You won’t regret it!

I...hmm. I don't even know where to start with Charmed. I guess I'll start with saying that I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Ok...that said. Here we go.
Cover. Part of the reason I jumped at the chance to read this book is the cover. It drew me in.
If you're looking for a book that will draw you in, as the cover does, than Charmed is it!

Characters. This is the first book in a long time that I have truly been confused by a menage-choice of men. Even after having read it, I'm not sure who I would choose - Luke or Creed. As a general rule, the first man to appear in books with redeeming qualities, is the one who wins my heart. Lindy did such a fantastic job of truly conveying the heartbreak that would occur when faced with two men that are both fantastic, that you are tied to, and that you have feelings for. My heart ached for Taryn at different times, for the utter guilt put on a woman when she cares too much. In such a short amount of time, you develop feelings for all involved.

The time frame of this book did confuse me a little bit at times. It seemed to move quite fast for me...which works for the book, and the situation. If you're abruptly plucked from your life, into a new one you never knew existed, everything would be a whirlwind. So though I did get confused on occasion, it totally fit, and is completely appropriate.
There are plenty of twists that surprise the reader in this, and I think they're lovely!

With everything that happens in this plot, I will be honest, I felt true anxiety!
My Kindle died at 2am in the middle of a big part, and I ended up dreaming up different outcomes of the book.

Lindy is on my list as one to watch out for! SO promising, and I can't wait to read "Charmed Again"!

Let Charmed, charm you!

Taryn was just an average girl with an average life, who new it would all change on her way to work?

I love Lindy Zart! I also love her name ha and I love her writing especially, everything I read of hers she likes to either make me crack up or shake my fist and say why Lindy why! But she's just doing her job which is make you fall in love with every single character. I really hate love triangles but what she is able to do is create a scene that makes it ok, each character touches your heart so it makes her choice ok.

This story was amazing to me because it had that paranormal romance I love and it didn't have you doubting, if you read it you'll know I mean. Taryn knew what she wanted and didn't sway even when there were obstacles it didn't matter, she was extremely likeable in a prickly hedgehog sort of way. Hedgehogs are so stinking adorable but if you rub them the wrong way their going to stab you. I loved her mouth she always had something smart to say which made her endearing to others.

I wanted to take Creed and stuff him and put him on my bed as a teddy bear, though my husband may not be too happy about that. He was such a great character, the perfect manang. He's got such a heart of love an rarity among all of his kind, yet his cocky demeanor made him oh so irresistible.

Luke on the other hand entered the scene with a broody characteristic he tried to be unlikeable but I like those kinds of characters so he had no chance. He turned out to be so awesome and amazing that he might as well join my stuffed character collection.

I don't know what else to say but this book was very refreshing and left you with bubbly happy feelings sort of like drinking your first cup of coffee for the day ;) So go get this book today you wont regret it. You may want to start your own character collection.

"Charmed" has now become one of my favorite books. Lindy Zart has completely blown me away with this story. This book was not what I was expecting at all, it was funny, charming and heartfelt at the same time. The chemistry between the characters and the flow of the story was absolutely amazing.
Taryn is adopted, feels lonely, and unlucky. She hates celebrating her birthdays and her 18th birthday is one that will change her life forever. This is the day that Taryn meets Shah and Creed. They are two mysterious men and both of them scare her; but she's scared of them for two completely different reasons. One seems evil and the other crazy. Is it easier to trust a man who scares you or one who seems delusional? Either way she must make a choice because both men are after her and one of them will get her. Who will she surrender to? Taryn life is suddenly turned upside down and has her questioning who and what she really is. How much trust can you give to someone you just met? Taryn learns that the survival of the world rests on her shoulders. She must fight to save the ones she loves before it's too late. Will she be able to accept who she is in order to do what needs to be done? When past secrets are revealed will it aide her in her mission or will it cause more destruction?
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a light paranormal read. "Charmed" is funny and full of suspense, adventure, action, romance and has heartfelt moments in all of the right places. I look forward to reading the next this book in the series and other books by the Author. If this book is any indication of Lindy Zart's writing talent she has an amazing road ahead of her. This is definitely the book to read, you will not be disappointed.

There were so many things about this story that I just loved. First, I love the creative names that Lindy came up with for her characters, and how they really seemed to fit so well with their personalities. Taryn had my giggling at her witty retorts to Creed. They had such chemistry. Together they were just the right mix of sarcasm and irony.

I really liked the idea of half-angel, half-human beings living on another planet. Lindy did a great job building her worlds and the characters. She did an even better job creating the personalities with the Charmed/humans, and how they contrasted to the Manangs (the angel-humans).

The action started almost from the first page, which I loved. I really hate when I have to go through chapter upon chapter of character and world building, and that is one of my favorite things about this story (and series, actually); you learn about the many different characters as you go, making it easier to keep remember who each character is, and what part they play in the grand scheme of things. What was even better was the ending. It doesn’t go exactly how the reader may necessarily want it to go, but in a good way. Trust me, it all works out in the end… meaning book two, Charmed Again! I don’t know why, but I really like when a book does not go as planned, or at least as I thought it was planned. I love it when authors step outside the box and do not just go with what they think the readers want. That is the beauty of their art – it is theirs to do with as they wish!
