Scarred by the past, determined never to love another man, Adam Fletcher’s life is all about reality—bytes and technology. On the night of his thirtieth birthday he makes a wish, never believing that wishes can come true. When the man of his dreams walks into his life, Adam doesn’t know whether to run from him, or to him. Tirian is just too gorgeous to be real…
Tirian is a unicorn-warrior, horn-broken, disgraced and made outcast, because he dared to defy his clan. His crime? To make music, not war. But in his quest to find a new life, he is shocked to discover that he will find true love far from home—his soul mate is human.
Will love heal their hurts, or will the past destroy their one chance at happiness? Love and Magic hold the key—if they are brave enough to reach out…
I was looking forward to this book for two reasons. 1, I love unicorns and 2. I'm also an Aussie, and I thought it would be an interesting change. How wrong could I be. 95% of books I read are by US authors,, I don't expect them to give a definition of every Americanism they use (and they would be rightly peeved if non US readers expected it). The US says pacifier, we say dummy, they say cell phone, we say mobile, they say diaper, we say nappy.. We readers do have a brain and can work dialogue out without being spoon fed.. If it's a term we don't know?. Google works for me. Adam's Unicorn reminded me of books set in Australia, England or Ireland by American authors, trying to 'talk the lingo'. Same can be said by actors trying to talk with accents that are so over the top, they're terrible
In all honesty, I would have assumed the author came from the US if I hadn't read the intro. I have no idea why the author warned the reader about Aussieisms. When so much US slang was used..I was tearing my hair out after the first few 'dude' additions, but they kept happening. *sigh* Dude wasn't the only stand out one either.
The storyline and main characters had little to no substance.. Their pasts were glossed over, and their interactions with each other were stilted, so I really didn't connect with them on a personal level. The sex scenes were reasonable, but I don't buy a book for the sex scenes. I'm looking for a decent storyline. Sadly, the book had promise but it just didn't do it for me.
This has become one of my favorite stories. Not just because as a child I loved unicorns and had them everywhere in my room, but because this story gives a new twist to the mythos about unicorns.
Adam wants the love of his life. His past prevents him from going out and finding it. He's terrified he might just get his dream come true... and then be rejected, again. He impulsively makes a wish on his birthday for that missing love, because who actually gets their wish from blowing out their candles.
This is a story of acceptance and healing, of finding joy and holding on with both hands in the face of danger. This was a wonderfully uplifting story and one that will remain on my keeper shelf, to be enjoyed over and over. Great Job!
I'm afraid I had a hard time getting into this story. I did find myself skimming a few times because I wanted to finish it quickly. While I don't find it horrible, it is not one I would likely ever re-read like I do with ones I really enjoy.
Ms. Cooper has become one of my favorite go to authors when I’m in the mood for a fantasy/paranormal themed romance. I love her characters and her smooth and well-written storytelling ability always brings this reader into her characters’ lives.
The blurb does a pretty good job at explaining what the story is about, so I won’t rehash it. Adam is an intelligent, successful man who wonders if he’ll ever find his own true love. When he meets Tirian on the road to his cabin retreat, he’s immediately intrigued by him. Tirian is unlike anyone he’s ever met before. There is a mysterious quality about him that keeps Adam on edge, and as much as he wants to push Tirian away, there is something about him that really pulls at his heartstrings.
I loved watching these two men dance around their attraction and feelings toward each other. The chemistry between them is intense and really pops off of the written page. Adam is a practical man, so Tirian entering his life really pulls the rug out from under him, but I enjoyed watching Adam learn to trust in his feelings for Tirian.
Well-written, sexy and a whole lot of fun, Adam’s Unicorn is definitely a book not to be missed! I also really enjoyed the backstory and set up of this series. I thought that it was well thought out and it was very unique and interesting. I’m totally on board with reading the next book in this series and I’m anxiously waiting for the next book. Also, Ms. Cooper writes books set in Australia and I love the Aussie slang as well as some of the customs they have. I always enjoy reading about different cultures, so I thought this book was a unique and interesting read. Highly Recommended!
Maybe it's Aussie speak mixed with a more stilted way of speaking that just didn't work for me. I found the two to be incompatible to me in the storyline with communication. It just felt like a ten year old putting the story together, though it did have potential... I just felt the delivery was at a low
I Love the Unicorn aspect and the story was good but Even though I am an Aussie myself I found that the Aussie slang and speak used detracted from the story and didn't sound natural, it seemed very forced and put on.
