What if a random kiss with the wrong woman feels like more than incidental contact? What if you sense every mistake brought you to this place, with this person? What if you know you'll have to clean up your bad-boy past and can't offer her much of a future, but you're determined to win her heart? What if you're also having...performance issues? Welcome to Eric De Marco's world. First person to say 'go hard or go home' gets his ass kicked.
Eden Connor graduated from Converse College with a degree in Psychology so long ago, her sheepskin is chiseled in stone. She’s been a graphic artist, a bridal photographer and an antique restorer. Since the death of her true love, she raised two children to adulthood and now has the time to return to writing. She writes primarily contemporary erotic romances, the odd bit of erotica and an occasional paranormal piece. Most of her writing is set where she lives, in South Carolina, so expect the handsome stranger to come equipped with a slow drawl. Addicted to hazelnut creamer, baseball and cranberry glass, she likes the music of Motown and when not writing about adults behaving badly, she takes a stab at the occasional needlepoint canvas.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an HONEST review.
This is the third installment in the DeMarco men series and it did not disappoint. While the book could be read as a stand alone I do not recommend it. In order to fully appreciate several nuances within this book the other two books in the series should be read first. Also, I'm not going to give a description of the book because I feel that if you got to this review you've either already read it or you have access to it.
Now that we got that out of the way let me say that this story was FANTASTIC! The great thing about the series is that while it does focus on three brothers each brother does have enough individuality in their story that you never feel as though you are reading a recycled version of the same story. At the same time each story fits together like the pieces in a puzzle and just like a good jigsaw puzzle the more you fit together (or read) the clearer the overall big picture becomes. This story focuses in on the last DeMarco brother - middle brother Eric. (Affectionately nicknamed Honey Bee by his sister-in-law because of his ability to flit from flower to flower pollinating all of the flowers he comes across.) It also includes Amy Sizemore who played as a secondary character as friend to Delilah (Lila).
One of the great things about this story, similar to the other ones in this series, is that the characters feel like real people. If you're looking for perfect characters with no issues then this is not the book for you. However, the bonus in flawed characters is that they become more realistic. The characters become more likeable and/or unlikeable, they become more believable and relatable and as a result you become more vested in both the story and the outcome. As I laughed out loud, bit my fingernails in anxious worry and a few times loudly encouraged the heroine to "smack tbat heifer" I found myself feeling like my grandmother who would sit in front of the television and yell at the characters on the screen as she watched her favorite soap opera. (Don't judge me!) Just like she would shut down her household and the earth if necessary so that she could sit down and enjoy her "story" I also anxiously wanted to know happened. (You will be relieved to know that now that I'm done the people in my house will begin to receive their hot meals again and laundry service again. Hush! We already had the judgement discussion.) This is one of those books where you want to know what happens so badly that you're tempted to skip ahead to find out what happens but you're afraid if you do you'll miss something. (Warning: - You would be correct in that assumption so don't do it.)
While the story does have scorching hot sex scenes it's not limited to that. There's humor, drama and mystery all wrapped around a plot that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to guess who did it. (We ought to start a separate discussion on how many times you change your theory on who did and why before you find out the truth.) You also get the realness of situations that make you realize truths such as everything is not as it seems just by how it looks on the outside and before we judge someone's actions we should stop and consider WHY they are acting that way in the first place. It is also peppered with quotes that serve as reminders for us in every day life like "Infatuation is blind. Love sees every flaw, but still wants to be with you." and " He understood why Sarah never came back. This place applied shrink wrap early, stunting a person’s growth. Whatever people thought you were was all you could ever be."
When reading I will admit that multiple times someone in the house inevitably needed something and I replied "Just FIVE more minutes. I'm at the good part". (Relax! There was no blood, the fire department wasn't called and everyone is still alive. As a bonus I learned all of the tasks I can accomplish with an e reader in my hand at the same time so no more of that judgment we talked about!) After giving that response what was obviously one time too many I was told "They are ALL the good part". And you know what? They were!
Wow! I really do mean WOW! This is the first novel I have read by Eden Connor, but without a doubt it won't be the last. Eden combines characters that you will fall in love with. The plot of this novel was superbly constructed. I would highly recommend Eden Connor's Hot and Sexy De Marco Men to anyone who likes contemporary page turners. I found myself able to lose myself in the storyline, unable to put it down. Although I haven't read the first two in the series, this novel is easily read as a stand alone. However I will be looking at going back to read them regardless.
Eden Connor’s Those Devilish DeMarco Men series has blown me away from the beginning. purestdelightawardEach book has dealt with real life, every day issues but done so in a way as to inform, not to preach. The first book featured a May-December romance (older woman, much younger guy), the second book dealt with an interracial relationship in the southern part of the U.S. where the KKK is still prevalent, the third book deals with child abuse (physical and mental) and the challenges of athletes in wheelchairs. Despite those very real subjects, the romance aspect of these books is not lost. In fact, the romance always plays a huge part in the storyline but the books are so well rounded that the rest of the plot makes things interesting and enhances to romance aspect.
I knew Incidental Contact would be a special book. While all of the children were affected by their mother’s disappearance when they were young children, Eric De Marco seemed to feel it more and thus he’s always treated women as temporary company, something not to get attached to. Yet for some reason he finds himself offering to help out Amy Sizemore, a friend of his soon to be sister in law. Although quite a few years younger than him, he soon realizes how much he enjoys her company and looks forward to their time together. Amy is no different but she’s wary, Eric has a reputation as a love ‘em and leave ‘em guy and while she tries to convince herself she’s okay with casual she soon finds herself smack dab in love with Eric.
I flat out loved the way these two got to know each other on all levels. The easy way they incorporated each other into their lives, the complete understanding of their issues and troubles, and the way they both went out of their way to help each other solve their problems. Eric has some issues that stem from his childhood that Amy just rolls right over and doesn’t let him get away with. Amy’s issues are learning to deal with all of the women who have spent intimate time with Eric and would like a repeat performance. I have to give her a lot of credit for understanding his past life and for the most part not letting it get to her completely.
So much happens in this story and it amazes me how much author Eden Connor was able to pack into it, but I loved every minute. It was intriguing, upsetting, and hopeful. Most of all I loved the fact that the three men finally, finally got some closure from their Mom’s murder. It was great seeing all the men with the women who won their hearts be able to move on and begin their lives.
This story was a long time in coming and so I was grateful I did a re-read of the first two before I began it. While you can read these as a standalone story, I believe you will get much more out of it if you’ve read the two previous books. This is one of those books that will remind you that it’s never too late to do the right thing, that sometimes it’s just one small incident that can change a person’s mind, that being kind to others always results in others being kind back, and that together people can make big changes in their community and the world. Yes, Incidental Contact is a sexy love story but it is so much more than that; it’s a story about a community coming together to help others that have been wronged, those less fortunate, and those that just need to know someone cares. My heart is so full right now and it’s all because of Eden Connor. Thank you!
Incidental Contact. Those Devilish De Marco Men, Book 3. Eden Connor Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews. Well, this book marks my first encounter with the De Marco brothers... and what I loved was the great mix of scorching sensuality, storyline that's real and relevant and the humour – oh the humour...I was laughing at one part, silently I thought, when the OH commented “ must be a funny book” Clearly my smiles were large. Anyway – apart from the fabulous humour what really worked for me? Well, Amy – I loved her, so much like many of us struggling with confidence, career, parental pressure, and never quite feeling good enough. Yet she was, as Eric finally showed her. I loved the wheelchair basketball angle too – being a wheelchair user myself ( I have only one leg) I know just how much we struggle to get accepted by many able bodied people, sadly there's still a huge chunk of people who think we should be tucked away out of sight :( so books that show disabled people in a good light are really welcome. Eden showed too how much of a struggle life can be, how hard when equipment fails, how ludicrously expensive wheelchairs are...did you know that a motorised scooter can cost around 5/6K ( I’d guess that’s around 8/9 thousand dollars...) You can buy a new car for that!! – and its just a seat, some wheels, a frame and a motor. Off the soapbox there now :) The Mall managers attitude was fairly typical of what happens too. Then there's the immigrant angle – I really enjoyed that when Eric(? I think) says if they all went home, as people ask, who on earth would produce all the food – here in rural Norfolk UK we have same thing, loads of immigrant workers out on fields and yet there's the call “taking our jobs” etc. but as has happened in past, if they aren't here food doesn't get harvested but ploughed back in. We're neurotic about stuff like that in UK, clearly US has same problem. Sadly the same attitude to rights too – where the migrants words aren't treated as the white persons are, where its OK to trash talk, to treat them as less because of colour or nationality. One day we'll get integrated... anyway, back to the book. The migrants play a huge part in the story, and the way its done works really well. Eric as a mixed heritage person is, like his family, sympathetic to the problems they face, in fact Eric just an all round nice guy – man-whore but nice guy :) His problem is finally he's met someone he wants to respect him, and everyone seems determined to remind her of his past. We see reasons unfolding that show a different side to what we thought about him and his actions, where the brothers are learning more about each other, and where the family are finally working as one unit. When it all came together for Amy's basketball project, when they all pulled in setting it up, and making it work was a real emotional time. Likewise when the story of the past comes out and we see what really happened – who couldn't have a lump in their throat. So a fabulous plot, filled with moments of scorching, erotic sex. That part was done well too, very sensual but without being OTT or full of squirming, icky conversations – I'm sure you know what I mean...too many books make the sex the story, and we read words that make you feel a bit nauseous they are so awful. Not horrific awful, just cringe-making awful! Stars: four and a half. ARC supplied by Netgalley
Incidental Contact Eden Connor This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. This is the third story in Those Devilish De Marco Men series. Eric De Marco is a hot and sexy guy living in Texas who works at and owns a garage with his two brothers Dan and Connor. He has recently come into some cash from a insurance policy that is being settled on his long ago deceased mother. All the girls in town are after him. He can't even go to get a haircut without practically being assaulted. Amy Sizemore is currently without a place to live. She has been living with a friend since she broke it off with her boyfriend three weeks ago. The jerk has moved on and recently posted his new engagement picture in the newspaper. Amy is short and not so very skinny. Her wardrobe most consists of pants that are way too long and her referee uniform. After running into her one day, Eric promises her dinner if she will accompany him to the hairdressers, maybe she can be a shield, keep the vultures away. He has an empty room and ends up offering her a place to stay. It will do his reputation good to be seen with the same women for more than one night. He promises to show her what she has been missing in the romance part of her life. She makes the mistake of admitting that she does not know what all the hype is about sex. This book was great. There was a lot of build up to sex for these two characters. It was amazing to see her begin to realize what she had been missing all along. Eric is having some libido issues of his own. Almost some self doubt or shall we say problems getting it up. What a laugh to see the playboy struggle with these and be an awemsome partner for her. The secondary plots in the story played an enormous role. Amy is very involved in referring wheelchair basketball and it was very interesting to learn more about this sport. Eric is dealing with the aftermath of finding his mother's long ago killer and the ramifications that the publication of his name is revealing to not just his immediate family but the whole town. It extemely well written story and the secondary characters consisting of both sets of families and friends played an integral part in the layout and eventualy unfolding of the story. I thougt all the characters had a lot of depth to them. It was a pleasure to read this story. It has all the ingredients for a great read. I would give it a 5/5. Well done.
I loved reading Incidental Contact (Those Devilish De Marco Men Book 3), all about Amy Sizemore & Eric De Marco who meet in the mall parking lot, the afternoon Eric is their for a hair cut. It seems that Amy is homeless, she left her boyfriend of three years when they had a fight over three weeks ago and he never called her. She's been sleeping on different couches for the last three weeks, and has no where to go. She's not ugly, she just needs a hair cut and some clothing advice, and she would look gorgeous, but she doesn't know how to ask. Eric stumbles across her in the parking lot, and discovers she's living out of her car and needs help. Amy is Lila's best friend, she can't impose on Colton, Jonah & Lila with her being pregnant and all her complications. But Eric doesn't want Lila pissed at him so he asks her to move into his loft, and he'll teach her how to love unconditionally, that's her rent! The author wrote an amazing love story that has spanned the entire three book series. In each book it talks about the whole family, but mainly focus's on one brother and his lady friend. The characters absolutely make this series come to life. It's about love, over coming life's hurtles and in general living your life with your mother's disappearance hanging over your entire childhood & adult life. Read this series, it will make you laugh, cry, sigh, shake your head and cum up a storm! Read Eric & Amy's book and watch them fall in love!
This book really drew me in and kept me reading. But not really for the reasons you would think. I didn't keep reading for hot sex and steamy romance. Eric broke.my.heart. I wanted to heal him, fix him, love him, redeem him. So much. I wanted Eden to bring him full circle so I kept on reading.
Eric was the character that I found least appealing in the first book in this series so I was very interested to see what was going to happen with this bad boy. He did not let me down. Let's just say that Eric has his ghosts and seeing those ghosts brought out and battled was the story for me here.
Amy was a good match for Eric. A tomboy who never really strove to be anything but. I liked her. She's that "every girl" we always wanna see but so seldom get. I liked that she was just insecure enough but not so crazy insecure that she made me grind my teeth. That was a great balance for Eden to strike because it could have so easily gone the wrong way.
I liked seeing some of the plot of the other two books brought to fruition and being able to see the tale of this family brought together. Eric and Amy were steamy enough without being ridiculous. A great read all together!
What a treat, a well written romance with the kind of characters I would like to have as friends. This book is the third in a series, and I must admit that upon beginning it, while not confused, I was intrigued by the other brother's stories. I went back and read the first two, and though you don't need to, I strongly urge you to, because I am sure you will fall in love with this family as I have. Eden Conner offers a well plotted story with a touch of suspense, strong characters that beg for emotional involvement, quirky interesting secondary characters, a beautifully detailed and drawn setting, and great dialogue. Well Done. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
aww I just knew Eric was going to be a sweetheart, I loved this book and this series the de marco men are sexy and downright delicious, this book has a lot of swoon worthy moments and at times I felt like I wanted to wrap Eric in my arms and take him home with me I could not put this book down 5 massive. stars well done eden brilliant book recommended for all you hopeless romantics <3
Good story, well drawn characters and a storyline that draws the reader through with no stones left unturned by the end. It's not too packed with erotic incidents ( there is actually a narrative) but the course of emerging true love is spiced with just the right number of romantic interludes. Social issues are raised and dealt with successfully and overcome in the end.
The power of real love, the truth, what seems like real can change at any moment. We cannot change the past, but we can refuse to follow as is and change our future...Eric deserves to be happy and believe in himself, he deserves a real love as Amy can and want to give to him. Love, mystery and suspense !
This entire series surprised me. I was going through my extensive TBR list and thought The Soft Sounds of Pleasure looked interesting. I couldn't wait to burn through all 3 books. It is the character development and growth that won me over. All of the characters work through problems both within their selves and with their loved ones. I'm really hoping for a continuation of this series.
I just dont have enough words. This was just simply one of my #1 books of all times. I mean the story it tells, and the way it tells the story and struggles of many different outlooks and troubles that happen. How real life this is.. And how we should always follow love the way it is ment to me. Thank you
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in the De Marco men series and the first one that I've had the pleasure of reading. This story is about a man named Eric who has built himself quite a reputation as a player and the woman named Amy who brings him to the realization that he wants to be a better person for her. I always enjoy the romance books where the bad boy is brought to his knees by the feelings he has for the girl that come out of nowhere. I love to watch a man fight for his woman and this book definitely did not disappoint! The fact that I hadn't read the first two books of this series prior to reading this one didn't take away from my enjoyment of this book at all and now I'm planning on going back to read those next. This is a well written love story that checked all the boxes for me and I highly recommend it to anyone as it was a pleasure to read!
Once again I read the third book in a series first (even though it is clearly stated on the cover and the title, I should have known) and maybe I would have enjoyed this even more, had I read it in the correct order but so I just have to buy the other two and read them because it was just. so. good! A very touching and compelling love story, loveable characters, a background that drew me in and spicy scenes that were thoroughly enjoyable, nothing crass or stale, all fire and passion, as I like it. But what I especially loved in this story were the wheelchair basketball players. Those guys rock! To give them so much space (don't be afraid, not too much!) made the book special and made me think about how lucky I am to be able to use my legs and adore people that overcome everything life throws at them. I can fully recommend this book - and now I'll hunt for the other two De Marco brothers!
The romance between Eric and Amy didn't interest me. What I found compelling was Eric's coming to terms with his past mistakes, forgiving himself, and then moving forward. He's a character I wasn't overly interested in and Ms. Connor made him so very sympathetic. The other two things that kept me reading were the continuing drama unfolding surrounding Cammie's murderer (which went a direction I never saw coming) and the wheelchair basketball league story line, both had me not being able to put this book down until everything was wrapped. Let me also add that it was good to catch up with the other De Marco men and their ladies.
This is a good series and I look forward to reading the fourth installment.
Eric De Marco. The youngest of the 3 De Marco men. Eric has commitment issues so hence the nick name "Honey Bee". Eric has dated just about every woman in the county but 1... Amy. Watching Eric as she grows up and knowing his reputation Amy tries to stay as far away from Eric as she can while nursing her own broken heart. Besides who has ever heard of a De Marco dating someone from the wrong side of the tracks. Can Amy help Eric get over his issues or does Eric break Amy's heart even more. Find out as Amy shows Eric how the less fortunate lives.
I enjoy Eden Connor's voice. Each of the books in this series have felt welcoming, as if the characters are real people I'd like to meet. Don't get me wrong, there are always flaws but they are still highly likable.
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't seem to put it down and when I had to all I could think about was Amy and Eric. The story is very well written. Each character you will fall in love with and by the end of the book your heart will be bursting. Great suspense story that coincided with the love story. Couldn't ask for more from this book!
My favorite so far..book three is Eric and Amy's story and wow it draws ya in...All the characters from the previous two are back and so my things happen to change the whole family for the better...you will be so surprised, I did not see so of the twists in this one coming...5 stars..loved! Now I cannot wait to see where the fourth book goes with Jay Jaris!
Great story! Eric and Amy feel like night and day, but you can feel the attraction between them, and how Eric doesn't understand why he is acting the way he does. It was really fun watching these two come together, and you will want to sail straight through the book.
In this story you get to see a meaningful love grow between two people who both see themselves lacking and undeserving of true love.A powerful story of overcoming lack of self esteem and of societal preconceptions
The DeMarco Men are sexy and steadfast!! The story keeps you trying to figure out what's going to happen next.. All the characters are examples of the trials that different races face!! Not to mention the steamy scenes!!! Wonderful read!!!
A wonderful story of strong family value and finding forgiveness in yourself. A way to become the person deserving of a true love with honor , respect and of course a lot of spice.
