Queen: Omnibus Mistress & Master of Restraint #5-7
Jaded
Rags to Riches…
The queen is not born– she is forged through survival.
You've read the Mistress and Master of Restraint series in present day. Join Regina Regal nineteen years in the past to where it all began with Jaded.
Even as a scholarship student, Regina Regal is the brightest at Hillbrook Prep, causing her to straddle two extremes between the destitute class she dwells in and the affluent she visits daily. Neither of which welcomes her with open arms, forcing her to choose between her people and her friends.
While dealing with insurmountable loss, Regina has more burdens placed upon her shoulders than the average adult could carry. With her mother dying, Regina has a difficult time crossing the line from caregiver to daughter in order to have both her mother’s and her own emotional needs met. Regina is struggling to keep her head above water as she takes on more debt from her mother’s mounting medical bills and living expenses, only to realize she is drowning.
At eighteen, with a college scholarship guaranteeing she will join the ranks of her one-percenter classmates, Regina should have the world at her fingertips.
Since she was young, Regina has been the provider, creating a young woman who has the need to survive and a hunger to be in control. But she finds herself falling apart, making horrible decisions that have lifelong consequences. Regina Regal’s life changes irrevocably when her best friend, Adelaide, invites her to study at the imposing Whittenhower Estates. Going against her instincts, Regina is compelled to visit Misery Castle.
The girl who entered Misery Castle’s iron gate will not be the jaded woman who flees it almost five years later…
Queened
Jaded, thy name is Regina Regal. Enduring a trial by fire, she will be Queened. Regina Regal wavers between apathetic and destructive because she’s numb inside and out. Lost in a sea of ennui, she goes through the motions of everyday life but never truly lives. Happiness is a foreign concept.
In the absence of numbness is pain– a pain so agonizing she would rather stick her head in the sand than feel the devastating loss of the father of her children. Thrust from Misery Castle, not only losing Grant, she leaves her first born behind. In the ashes of her despair, Regina creates a family for her daughter. But as her eyes open wide, she realizes everything is built on an illusion.
Betrayed. Abandoned. Grieving yet filled with guilt, Regina finally comes to the realization that she has been toyed with as a pawn in a sadistic game Dominion’s founders have played since before she ever set foot into Hillbrook. Every move she has made has been orchestrated by the very people she has grown to love and trust. Restraint draws Regina into a whole new world– one that has been at her fingertips but she was too blind to see.
Forced with the task to choose between love and self-respect, Regina learns how if you feel empowered while you’re on your knees, no one can tear you down when you’re standing firmly on your own two feet.
Checkmate
They call me Mrs. Whittenhower…
Readers have experienced the present through the points-of-view of Katya Waters, Dexter Hayes, and Dalton Fontaine. Now it’s time to experience the events that took place during those installments through a different pair of eyes– Queen’s. Checkmate parallels Restraint, Unleashed, Dexter, and Dalton. Questions will be answered through Regina Regal’s perspective, and motives will sharpen into clarity. Events aren’t always as they may seem.
Regina uses self-restraint, when she’d rather go on an enraged rampage across Dominion, New York. She must choose self-preservation, where she surrenders to Maître du Jeu’s extortion, rather than get even. Learning her enemy, while doing as they bid, Regina protects all she calls hers, at the cost of her pride and self-respect.
Erica Chilson does not write in the 3rd person, wanting her readers to be her characters. Therefore, writing a bio about herself, is uncomfortable in the extreme.
Born, raised, and here to stay, the Wicked Writer is a stump-jumper, a ridge-runner. Hailing from North Central Pennsylvania, directly on the New York State border; she loves the changes in seasons, the humid air, all the mountainous forest, and the gloomy atmosphere.
Introverted, but not socially awkward, Erica prides herself on thinking first and filtering her speech. There are days she doesn’t speak at all. If it wasn’t for the fact that she lives with her parents, giving her a sense of reality, she would be a hermit, where the delivery man finds her months after expiration.
Reading was an escape, a way to leave a not-so pleasant reality behind. Reading lent Erica the courage she gathered from the characters between the pages to long for a different life. Writing was an instrument of change, evolving Erica into the woman she is today- a better, more mature, more at peace thinker.
Erica has a wicked mind, one she pours out into her creations. Her filter doesn’t allow all of it to erupt, much to her relief. Sarcastic, with a very dark, perverse sense of humor, Erica puts a bit of herself into every character she writes.
So, this is a combination of all three book reviews: Let me start by saying this entire series is a mindfuck. This particular story of Regina will leave you ripped apart. Fair warning!
Jaded
I'm not one to use gifs or pictures in my reviews but this one definitely rates one. This is me when I finished reading Jaded! I was floored, dumbfounded, gobsmacked, and left with my mouth hanging open. On the inside I was screaming, but on the outside I was well....
This book does so many things. It sheds light on others involved in this whole sordid mess they call life. It give me compassion for those I previously had none. It sheds light on so many things and it leaves you reeling.
Regina or Queen as she has been named had a rough life. But, she was pulling her way out of the slums and doing everything she could to make better future for herself. Then the prick, aka Daniel Whittenhower I, steps in and it all goes to shit. How one person could wreak so much havoc on innocent people is beyond me. And it's not limited to people he doesn't know, he does it to his own children, his own flesh and blood.
Regina is strong because she has to be. To be anything else, would be a travesty. She would fall apart and shatter and never recover. How anyone could survive what she's been through is unknown to me.
I can't say anything else because it will give away the story. But to say I was reeling is an understatement. Erica Chilson has created some of the most loveable and f**ed up characters I've ever seen. Jaded does so many things for us. It gives us history on Queen, it brings the other stories full circle, and it gives us compassion for those we thought didn't deserve it. The sins of the father are visited upon the children and in this case, the sins of the father are visited upon everyone he touches.
I can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out. It's all so messed up but you can't stop reading. It's compelling as only Erica Chilson can bring and how can you NOT find out. I'm hard pressed to figure out, who in this series of intertwined stories and books is more messed up. How they didn't all turn out to be serial killers is beyond me. The fact that they can even function in normal society is amazing!
Well done Ms. Chilson.
Queened
I will continue my earlier comments on the other books in this series by saying OMFG! This is one f**ked up situation, family, group of people, arrangement, whatever you want to call it! They're manipulative and harsh and in many ways uncaring of who they hurt in the process of getting what they want, consequences be damned!
Poor Regina (Queen) has almost no control over any aspect of her life. Every time she thinks she gained some semblance of control, it all goes away. That control just gets ripped out from under her and leaves her flat on her face. She sets out to help her friend, who she thought was helping her, only to find out she was betrayed by that friend. But, her friend may not really have a choice, she's as much a pawn as Regina.
The poor children being raised right now are going to be so screwed! They futures aren't looking so bright either. It's all so confusing and yet it's not. I could not imagine going through what Regina has gone through. Her childhood was over before it ever began. In fact, all them lost their innocence and childhood LONG before they should have. I cried through almost this entire book. My heart keeps breaking for Regina. Each time I find out something else, my heart breaks a little more for her. It'll be shattered before long.
Erica Chilson continues to weave an amazing story that will leave you dumbfounded. How she managed to weave these stories together in the way she has is amazing! As read each story and get more information I'm amazed at the level of detail interwoven into each story and storyline. I can see they're all converging for one huge impact, but I have yet to figure out how it'll play out.
With each story I also find new players in the game. There seem to be a few players who have yet to be identified. More were outed in Dalton's story, and more were outed here, but I get the distinct feeling, that not all players have been revealed. I'm wondering if anyone will get their HEA. So far, there is no HEA, not even and HFN. There just an acceptance of things being crappy!
If I'm guessing correctly, the when the final players are revealed, I'll be gobsmacked again.
Checkmate
OMFG!!!!!!
With every new book in this series, I find something out that changes my entire perspective on the entire series. I feel like I know what's going on, then I read the next book and it all changes. Each new character's perspective changes things. I find my loyalties changing, I find myself forgiving some and blaming others. Then it all changes with the next book.
I'm curious what the end of this series will look like. It's been a wild and bumpy ride. It's emotional, it's crazy, it's a complete and total mindfuck!
Erica Chilson has definitely done it again. I'm eagerly awaiting the next on in the series. I think this one will be the last one, but who knows what she has up her sleeve?
Oh, if you're looking for normal characters with normal problems - go elsewhere. There's not one single normal person in this series! It's AWESOME!
One last thing, up until this book, I hated Marcus. Now, I actually the bastard!
I am in love with this edition. Giving me 3 books in one that focus on Queen, all I can say is OMG! You will need a couple of things while reading this 1. Box of tissues, Queen is so very human its impossible to not feel her pain, confuse, and Joy. 2. The ability to not kill those who inturpret you while reading are clearing read and they want to ask stupid questions…, For me there were times that I had to go HELLO I AM READING. I did not want to put Queen down. This book had me hooked more than any other in the series too date. I don’t want to spoil it but this book is on my must read more than once list now. A place very few make it. I felt that I went though Queen difficult life with her and grew with her. I can’t wait to see her get dreams.
I absolutely love this series. Its a little dark and kind of twisted but that just adds so much more to the story. Queen is a compilation of books 5-7. It takes you back to where it all started with Queen. But you learn a lot more about all the other characters in there early days as well. This book answers a lot of questions that you've had while reading the first 3 books in the series.Though there are so many more questions that you have after. I was debating reading this part of the series and I'm so glad I did. Queens story in kind of inspiring. The way she has dealt with all the things life has thrown at her. She has managed to come out on top. Though her scares aren't physical, I think she is still the strongest person in this series.
I loved this set! Whitt and Queen are by far my favorite characters and I don't hate Marcus nearly as much any more. Thanks Donna J for getting me hooked on this series. Again I would have given these books 5 stars if it weren't for all the typos.
This is a trilogy of stories which I have reviewed as individual books. They are unbelievably brilliant, and I highly recommend you read my individual reviews to know just why I feel that way!
5 stars is not enough! Amazing! the book starts with Jaded the back story on how Queen, Ade,and Fate ended up "friends" Ps: baby Whitt...ADORABLE!! he's such a little man. who im not a fan off is Grant..well I am, but I'm not. there was something i wanted to trust about Grant but i couldnt! and against my better judgement i feel head of heels for him bc like she said he's a sad puppy dog and then BOOM! something major happens and I knew who to blame..well the 2 people to blame..well more than the other bc she has that extra sneaky chromosone in her body and hes just a complete douche
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book(or 3 books! These are, hands down, the BEST books of the series. I love Queens perspective! I laughed, I cried (and cried), I screamed in frustration, and squealed in happiness. I am going to reread this series and properly review ALL the books then...I just wanted to share my opinion on the Queen Ombibus collection :)
Absolutely fantastic! I have to say that reading from Queens perspective is absolutely a treat! I have always loved her but she is bad ass! I love that she is the mother hen to all but she will crush the balls of anyone hurting her family. I also love that she is a gay man trapped in a beautiful woman's body
My my Regina King do you make my naughty bits tingle. This was a superb read, I loved it from beginning to end. Queen, is exactly her name sake. This is the Omnibus edition so we get three books in one and this book doesn't disappoint. Loved it!!
Without a doubt one of the best series ever! Am so glad that I managed to keep the purchased books on my computer as they are no longer for sale due to being updated. I loved it regardless and look forward to re-re-reading this book and the rest of the M & M series.
