Warning: Hot, steamy threesomes, chauvinism and more are running wild in the jungle. Can you handle the heat?
Abducted by a pair of hunky, tribal warriors, Carlie doesn’t think things can get any stranger until the first time she purrs.
Everyone’s heard of the mysterious Moon Ghost Jaguars, supposed shapeshifting men who steal women as their brides. What they forgot to mention was that half naked, ripped and oh so delicious, they always came as a pair – and turned into really big freakn’ cats! But Carlie’s not about to let these furry Tarzan’s dictate her future, even if they seem to have conquered her body.
Acat didn’t think he wanted a mate until he came across the outspoken American with golden hair. Making her his bride is only part of the battle. With the help of his best friend, Chaob, can he find a way to convince this strong willed woman to follow the traditions of his tribe? Or will this reluctant jungle bride get her lovers to accept the fact she’ll never be a classic barefoot and pregnant mate?
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I can't even. I seriously can't even. "Warning: Hot, steamy threesomes, chauvinism and more are running wild in the jungle. Can you handle the heat?" When I bought this book, I had seen that warning that caps the description. I took chauvinism to mean that these heroes would be more in-your-face domineering alpha. Instead, what Langlais says is chauvinism is in fact it's dear and hateful cousin: misogyny. A.k.a. "the hatred of women by men" as defined by the dictionary. What makes me say that?
Acat is our Alpha hero. (Literally, he is Alpha. Capitals and all.) He spends the majority of the text brow beating, manipulating, and 'seducing' his bride into doing what he wants. He tries repeatedly to break her using sex, which is not the tactic of someone who has even the slightest modicum of respect for women or more specifically the heroine. If anyone were to try to use those tactics on a woman in modern society, it would be considered abuse. I was literally sickened by his insistence that she must want to be mated to him and his buddy for life, simply because she became aroused when toyed with. The heroine was a toy to him, a prize that should simply conform to whatever he wanted, something that was his goddamned due as an Alpha. At one point, he refuses to even tell the heroine about his family, for no viable reason other than to prove he doesn't have to listen to her.
Our heroine, Carlie, isn't really much better, seeing as how she would rather spend her time doing petty rebellions rather than being intelligent enough to actually choose strategies that might work. Oh, look, she's making kitty jokes, isn't that so quaint? That'll really show them. Except no, not really, because apparently she cannot get over how rippling their muscles are. She is kidnapped, ignored, shoved into figurative and literal cages, repeatedly drugged, physically hit, verbally threatened, "forcibly seduced" (I would qualify it as rape but some may not), biologically changed against her will, and lied to constantly. But that can all be forgiven because they have big dicks and nice abdominal muscles.
Perhaps the only kind-of-sort-of saving grace in this trio of misfits is Chaob, the Beta hero. (Again, literally, he is Beta.) Because even though he falls into line with Acat far too often for my tastes, at least he is capable of showing something resembling genuine care for the needs of the heroine. At least he seems to realize that she is human (werejaguar, whatever) and therefore deserving of at least some respect. He tries to make compromises with her, and he's usually the one who convinces Acat not to rape/beat/threaten Carlie into submission. He's also just about the only one who actually explains anything to Carlie.
Even with the small good graces provided by Chaob, this was a wreck. The sex was awkward. The word "freakn" was used too fucking much, because yes, we get it, this is a series where the key word is freakn, now please stop using it. The paranormal aspects made absolutely no sense: apparently this tribe is descended from the Mayans somehow, but have powers, but there are giant spider ruins, but curse something or other, but what the seriously effing hell? And romance? Well, I think I outlined pretty well above why there is no romance, and even more so, why there is no Happily Ever After. I kept reading this for some faint hope that things would get better. They didn't.
This book is Not Okay. Badly done, Langlais. Badly. Done.
This was weird - rtc no really, it was freakingfreakn' weird.
Totally read this for a challenge and I'm NOT going to dive into any of the other books for this series. Unless I really, truly, hate myself one day. Who knows - it could happen because HAVE YOU MET MY BOSS? Sometimes I just want to throat punch him and I usually will listen to an audiobook to calm my throat punching nerves.
Sadly, this book was just weird. Low-key barely listened to it because at that point - I needed background noise more than anything in the world. Even coffee (or covfefe if you want to annoy my boss).
The storyline was just a confusing hot mess. Besides that, I have no desire to dive into any of the characters - they all annoyed me. The end.
Overall, I have no words for this book or for the amount of times "freakn'" was used. My brain hurts.
LMBO…. Leave it to Eve, to throw a woman in the middle of the jungle, have two men that don’t speak English kidnap her, then get her all sexually frustrated and do nothing. This story was just too funny! I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time and believe me I needed it.
The characters are really well suited for each other. I really loved the bartering between Acat and Charlie, it made the story feel so real. Plus it goes to show you, don’t expect an America woman to just roll over and submit to the jungle ways. With Acat the dominate and Chaob the beta, they both work their magic in keeping their wild American woman all to themselves. You get m/f/m sex, with anal, so beware for a smoking hot time.
Eve has gone full blown novel nowadays, so you really get to go deeper into the story and characters. I personally love it as she doesn’t know how long I have been waiting for her to really expand her stories. I recommend this to anyone who loves a sexy, downright funny romance.
After reading (and hating) the Pack series, I was reluctant to even look further at Eve Langlais' books. A friend convinced me to try the Freakn' Shifters series and I have to admit, I've been quite enjoying them all. Until this one. Once again, the author loses her characters early in the story, again plying up the misogyny card, now adding kidnapping and possibly rape as well as forced mating and even forced race-change. Worse, she totally assassinates her two main characters' character in doing all this. Acat and Chaob were modern men who were part of a mythic tribe, but dealt in the real world doing business to keep the tribe kept well. Acat disparages the traditions of bride-kidnap-and-force-mating, yet he makes a 180 degree turnabout, not only taking part, but taking the farce even further, totally regressing to caveman status. Once again, the author gives us what could be a strong, feisty female and turns her into a slavering fool, apparently so hot for them as if she's in a mating fever, which she, as a human, was not. Apparently Eve is convinced that all women are looking for hot romantic rapists since she romanticizes this scenario far too much in far too many of her books. She takes what could be patriarchal or chauvinistic societies and turns them totally misogynistic. Even the parts I did enjoy - Carlie besting the two men, standing up to them, the spider, her own view of herself as a cat, etc. - were over-shadowed by this theme. Frankly, I think that I would have enjoyed the book far more if though they kidnapped her, they broke tradition and told her what was going on and why, giving her the choice. Since they were both part of the modern world with worldly idea and morals, this was the logical place to take this book. However, Eve can't seem to get herself out of this rut where men are just so hateful to women and the women love them for it. Personally, I think she needs a trip to Dr. Phil's couch to figure out her daddy issues.
I was promised a shape shifter erotic romance and the only part which Jungle Freakn' Bride delivered was the shape shifter part. I have never before read a threesome this tepid. This steamy jungle is apparently located in Nebraska. The heroine, Carlie, is supposedly on a jungle expedition for a pharmaceutical company which would presuppose she was qualified enough for a professional corporation to pay the associated costs. As far as I can tell from her behavior in the book she's barely qualified to be a perky cheerleader. The heroes, Acat and Chaob, start out interesting but quickly turn into cardboard caricatures.
The author, Eve Langlais, skips over many events which would be very interesting if she described them in detail such as the were-jaguar fights proving them worthy of their brides. Instead we spend the time in a closed up hut with only a remote cheers to let us know something is happening. Ho hum. The other women captured from the expedition are mostly glossed over instead of providing interesting contrasts. The heroine's sister makes a brief appearance, but once again not enough depth is provided to truly engage the reader.
There was so much opportunity and so little follow through. Eve Langlais appears to have many good ideas and hopefully in the future will be able to fully flesh them out. First though she needs to take the granny panties off, turn the lights on, and learn the true definition of erotic.
I jumped right into this one right after reading Human and Freakn'. From the events in that book and from the synopsis, I thought I would have issues with this one. And I was not wrong. Huge issues with this one. In fact, if this was the 1st book, I would have thought "fuck this series" andwouldn't have bothered to read any more. But, it's not and each book is about someone different (thankfully). The following quote says it all: "Outside the village, women didn't exist to serve their husbands. They worked and lived independently. They owned property. Voted. Had opinions. Choices. Raised in a male-orientated society, the adjustment in thinking proved jarring and Acat didn't always succeed in hiding his misogynistic views." That, that, and that is why this book sucked ass. This is a fun series, but skip book 5. Not. Missing. A. Thing. Then there was this:
Eve Langlais writes fun, quick, erotic paranormal romances that I often enjoy. I had trouble liking any of the characters in this one. The hero trying to mold his mate was annoying. I couldn't sink into this one and just escape.
Carlie is part of a research team. they are doing their research in the middle of the jungle. So when she wakes up to find a jaguar in her face and in her tent, she knows she is in trouble. Acat & Chaob are jaguars shifters. Part of the legendary Moon Ghost Tribe and best friends, they are also cursed. In the tribes past, a women was killed in a fight between 2 men. So the gods had decided that 2 men would be to every women and they would bare only sons. So to get there brides, they had to go outside the tribe. The men were to leave a huge dowery of gold/jewels/riches to the family and steal their bride. Then they were to take her to the village and prove they were worthy to have a wife and then prove to her that they were her mates. So threesomes are the norm in their tribe. Along with tradition. So when Acat's father tells him the gods have spoken and his bride is out there, he and his best friend must go find their bride and steal her and then prove themselves worthy. Carlie, blond hair and tall, wakes with a fright and has no idea shifters exist. She is about to enter a world that could give her the best pleasure imaginable, being cherished by two men or will she run for home and to what she knows as normal. Can these 2 men, give her everything she needs and desires to keep her.
I LOVE these books. Carlie is in for a whirl win romance. She has 2 men who want nothing else than to make her happy. They get more than what they bargained for with Carlie though. She is a modern women with modern desires and needs. They win her body but but will they win her heart? The characters are very well done and you feel the conflict in the men. They want to give her everything she needs but they are also fighting tradition and the way of their tribe. Carlie is just thrown into a world she had no idea existed and of not giving a choice in the matter. Her old life is really taken from her and I believe the men have a lot of making up to do. The sex scenes are hot and Carlie gets some really hot make up sex but will it be enough?
GREAT MUST READ, if you like the series. It is a stand alone book but if you read the series you will love this book.
I've stalked all of Eve's books for the last few years. Her stories are always just the right length, humor, sex, romance... they keep me coming back every time and they don't disappoint..
Carlie is doing research with others out in the jungle when her and 2 other girls are kidnapped. She awakes in her "closed" tent to find a cat, more specifically a jaguar... after spotting two jaguars she ends up being drugged and carted off. For those of you who've read book 3 you'll remember Ruth's adventures and her going after her missing sister Carlie.
Acat and his friend Chaob are sent on a quest to find their brides by the tribes Shaman. They are both a little skeptical but when they catch her scent, they realize the shaman was right. Unfortunately for them, they aren't allowed to tell their soon to be bride anything, because of traditions. Supposedly things go wrong if the bride is talked to/comforted before her change. So, Carlie just thinks they don't speak English...they speak Mayan around her and she thinks they understand her because of certain things she sees in their eyes but they don't speak up until after the mating has been completed.
Carlie is a strong female character, who has a mind of her own, and trouble follows her throughout the book. Luckily for her, her mates are never far behind her and they keep her safe.
Acat has some trust issues with letting his mate go anywhere, especially not towards civilization since he worries about losing her. Chaob thinks they should give her some freedom or they'll lose her. Will Carlie's mates give her the space/freedom she needs to explore her new side and her budding love for them or will they squish her freedom and keep her prisoner?
Always a perfect story with enough twists and questions. I never know where Eve's books will take me, just that they will leave me immensely satisfied. Hence why Eve is on my auto-buy list... if you've read the other Freakn' Shifters series make sure you don't miss out on this one.
Oh what a wonderfully HOT and invigorating jungle adventure! I love Eve’s original and very entertaining humor. It just shines right through everything she writes. Add on some hot shifters, a beautiful tropical jungle and amazing sex and we have ourselves one great read, one that any erotic, paranormal romance reader will enjoy a tropical escape with ;)
Carlie is with a research group deep in jungle depths right along with its wildlife. She’s one tough cookie that loves her freedom and will not hold back voicing it either. She awakens in her tent with company and before you know it wakes up again while she’s being kidnapped and taken even deeper into the jungle. Her kidnappers will not speak to her, so communication is null. No clue what’s going on, well except for the fact she was kidnapped. She continues to voice the unpleasantness of the situation with hopes of them letting her go. Not. Gonna. Happen. Once again waking up from passing out, she finds herself among the tribe of the Moon Ghost Jaguars and two of them being her hot kidnappers. What’s a girl to do?
Chaob and Acat are longtime friends and fated by the gods to share the same woman. When they finally find her, they are unsure how to feel, at first. She’s a beauty in their eyes and VERY different from any woman ever brought to their tribe to become a bride. But they are determined to succeed, be a mated trio and live a happy life in the jungle. Can they convince their bride that she belongs with them and will be happy living their ways?
There is so much fun and antics among this trio; the fights, the excitement, the growing love that’s not realized at first by the characters but seen by the reader. Each one of them learned something from being brought together, forced or not, fate is fate and you just cannot mess with it, ever! I hope there will be more to the Freakn' Shifters series! I will miss it so much once it reaches its end :(
So, I’m totally loving the Freakn’ Shifters series by Eve Langlais. There’s hot alpha shapeshifters, snarky family members and some smokin’ hot sex. What more could you want?
Jungle Freakn’ Bride is another in this series. It’s a bit different from the others in the series. This time around we don’t have anyone from the main family that is usually in the story. This time we have two members of the Moon Ghost Jaguars and a stolen bride.
Now, while I really like Eve Langlais and the Freakn’ Shifter series, this one left me wanting a bit more. I think part of the problem was I pretty much knew what was going to happen because of Human and Freakn’. The two stories are tied together and part of the Jungle Freakn’ Bride was told in the last one.
I also think it lacked a bit for me because I missed the snarkiness of the family members, especially the mother. Since no one was in the story from the main family, we missed out on that.
Now, all this being said I still enjoyed the story. We have two hot alpha male shifters and a very feisty female. It was fun watching Carlie read them the riot act. She didn’t hold anything back! And believe me, they deserved it.
Acat and Chaob are awesome. They’re a mix of old and new. They follow the traditions of their tribe while at the same time, they have a foot in the modern world. It’s a good thing too, because Carlie is definitely a modern girl!
There’s a couple of surprises in this one that bring a new twist to Eve Langlais’s shifter stories.
* I recommend reading the previous book to understand more about this story.
When Carlie gets abducted by a pair of shape-shifting tribesmen, she cannot imagine how her future is about to change. Together with two other woman she is takes to the tribes village, were her captors Acab and Chaob have to fight for the right to take her as their fated mate. But then they force a potion on her and make a shifter of her too and even though Carlie likes her new kitty, maybe her mates are not enough to make this city girl like her new jungle bride life.
This book is a direct companion to the previous book and just like it's counterpart it just isn't up to par. More than one situation feels more like rape than anything else and I just didn't connect with any of the characters. It was confusing, not that entertaining and like the previous book it felt like it missed a big part, Ruth's story. I think these two books would have worked better when they were one book, switching between Ruth and Carlie as main characters. Well, finally done with these two stories, onto the next book.
3.5 stars. These are super fun quick reads, but I always find if I don't love at least one character in E.L's books, I won't end up loving the book. I didn't like or hate the Carlie, or Acat but I did LIKE the Chaob guy but didn't love him either. I also found myself skimming three or four scenes in this book, because they were in the last book with the sister, Ruth, and I wasn't for reading all that again even if you get little thoughts from Carlie. I can't say I'm completely satisfied by this book, but I DID like the spider scene and of course the sex scenes were all great too. I think I hoped for a little more but it was light and easy to read.
Carlie went into the jungle for some exploration & found more than what she was looking for.
Acat aka Mr. Kitty & Choab aka Gorgeous Grin went into the jungle & found their mate; Carlie. & then kidnapped her from the other explorers but not before they la pile of jewels behind for payment.
I thought that this book had some funny parts, scary parts & some sex scenes to go with the well written plot. But, you have to read the book to find out if you agree.
hilarious and cute, and who doesn't love a shifter romance book...........
A girl with attitude, lots of attitude ............and the dialogue is just so entertaining, I read the series a while back and re-read this for a challenge this month and just, forgot how entertaining this series was, and perhaps I should re-read the whole series instead of just part!
Meh, she kind of lost me with this one. The whole, "we can't tell you because it might hurt you" thing bothered the heck out of me. She was FORCED to partake in a magic ritual that could have killed her. I don't see how you come back from that.
I love the mix of tribal and modern more than I thought I would! I'm not sure how much is based on actual historic tribes (minus the shape shifting obvi) but I truly did have a good time reading their stories unfold.
Worse book I have read in years. It was terrible and had vibes of rape and drugging. I hated it so much I returned it for my money back. I have not done that ever. That tell you how much I hated it.
Way to go to the non submissive woman!!! I loved Carlie since I read little bits and pieces about her from Human and Freakn'. Carlie is out in the jungle doing research when she awakes to find a jaguar in her tent. Stolen away by the mysterious Moon Ghost Jaguars, Carlie finds herself trying to hold on to her anger while being tempted by two gorgeous men. Who can stay mad when surrounded by ripped, hot bodies. From a lifestyle built on tradition, magic, and domination Acat and Chaob have their hands full with this fiesty female. Unable to speak at first, Acat and Chaob are unable to comfort and console Carlie with whats going on. Carlie is desperate for answers but not immune to the desire she feels for these two men. Not one to bow down and go along with what her men say Carlie proves her strength by holding her own. Its hot in the jungle but Carlie, Acat, and Chaob make it sweltering!!! **As always Eve delivers another masterpiece. I am drawn in by every book and can't wait for more. Her character development is always spot on. As the reader, you find yourself being able to relate to every character. Chaob's compassion, Acat's controlling nature, and Carlie's stubbornness and fear of spiders. --God, I hate spiders. She did. It was one thing her and her sister shared - a deep repugnance of eight-legged freaks. Favorite parts: Purring like a freakn' cat was perfect grounds for her to rip herself from the manwich around her and jump up screeching. "Torture, yes, with your modern ways, but never think you're not a prize worth her weight in gold and jewels. Despite our differences, I think you are the perfect bride. Not just for me and Acat, but the entire tribe." -Chaob She wasn't about to protest the sleeping arrangements, which involved getting smooshed between them. With no blankets, and hardly any clothes, body heat became important at night when the temperature fell. Besides, the manwich was always fun. He slung her kicking over his wide shoulder and stalked off. It was so annoying how he just manhandled her with ease. Oh god, the slap to her ass made her hiss, but the hand between her cheeks that followed drew a moan. Why did getting into trouble have to be so much fun? Much as she loved modern living, this was home, and the two feline males chasing her tail, the loves of her life. And as far as this jungle freakn' bride was concerned, it wasn't tradition that needed changing, but the world.
Cute story - wasn't what I thought it would be, but it went along with Human and Freakn'
I read Human and Freakn' first so I was more familiar with the whole jungle ways. the way of the Ghost cats -
The book starts off with Acat, the future Alpha of the tribe talking to his grandfather. Acat is the one who has been in the real world and knows of the the ways women think. So when his grandfather told him that the Gods have spoken, and his bride is out in the jungle, Acat didn't want to believe him. But of course since his Father was Alpha, he had to humor them.
Picking up Chaob, his beta, as well as the guy he's going to share his bride with, they head out to the jungle.
Chaob was more of a believer, but still skeptical about how it all worked. But once they got a sniff of their mate, they couldn't' deny it anymore.
That's where we picked up from the beginning of Human and Freakn' - Carlie (Ruth's sister) was sleeping in her tent when she was startled awake by the snuffing of a wild animal. At first she couldn't figure out what it was, but she figured out it was a jungle cat, aka jaguar. Doing everything she could not to panic, she didn't want to get eaten, but this cat wasn't acting like it was going to be eating her anytime soon. And she was starting to get ansy.
When she finally got up the courage to scream, a hand clamped over her mouth... wait, a hand?? All of a sudden the cat isn't there anymore.
As she's brought out of her tent, she comes face to face with another man. Holy Cow these guys are HOT!
Talking, or more like Bitching the whole way, Carlie is trying to figure out who these guys are and what their intentions are. lol Her imagination really gets away from her, too :)
Acat and Chaob knew they had to keep their silent oath. After all, just because they weren't believers of the God's mating before didn't mean they weren't now! They knew from past experiences if they explained things to her that the Gods would get angry and something could go wrong with the mating. So they kept silent. And that just pissed Carlie off more and more.
This was really a cute story that worked well with the other story. It was fun getting to meet Ruth's sister and her 2 mates :)
This was a very good story. It was a fun, enjoyable read.
Carlie is a cool leading lady. She is on a trip in to the jungle while working for a pharmaceutical company researching plants. She gets kidnapped but two jungle hunks, Acat and Chaob. She's attracted to them and has a hard time resisting them but she always tries to hold her own. She doesn't know how she could be happy being a jungle bride as it's so different from what she's used to. That being said, she does give their life a try and comes to care for Acat and Chaob.
Acat and Chaob are the next Alpha and Beta of the tribe. Their tribe (aka pack) is all shifters. Because of an ancient curse, their tribe's pregnancies result in boy children so they're forced to kidnap their brides and then use mystical means to transform them in to shapeshifters like their mates. The women must have 2 men and the men know the right women by their scent (that they can smell from very far away).
When Acat and Chaob are told by the tribe Shaman that it's time for them to go n their bride quest they do but with mixed feelings. Acat and Chaob have both lived in the modern world and weren't sure what to expect on their bride quest but when they met Carlie they were thrilled. While she's beautiful she's also intelligent & spunky. They had issues trying to figure out how to keep her happy. They're also both afraid that she'd try to escape them to go back home so they have trouble giving her freedoms.
While there are some issues (can we say surprise visit from her sister...apparently ties in with the story line for book #4 Human and Freakn') and it's interesting seeing the evolving relationship as they all figure out how to deal with each other and how to be happy together. It's a fun read and I'm looking forward to reading her sister's story next. All in all I really enjoyed this story. :D
Oh brother--yet another supposedly feisty female (newsflash, just saying someone is strong doesn't make it so...) adamantly telling herself she'll stay strong but who caves in into being a simpering pile of spineless goo with open legs. 'Oh, my inner knows they need a strong mate, yet I still will beg for their hoo-hoo getting shoved in to my hoo-ha, preferable both at once'..or words to that effect.
I suppose the point is to show the mating hormones are overriding, but it gets tiresome to read. How about someone who says 'well geez, this is an odd situation, but hey I think I'll enjoy myself'.
How lucky she is the jungle dudes decide to 'allow' her to have some freedom after all. Oh, and 'give' her a credit card to spend how she wants. How fucking patronizing. Especially as she claims not to be a whore to be bought by baubles.
In general I like this series but I'm so tired of the 'strong female' getting controlled by and dictated to by her supposed mates. What happened to love and being a team? Give and take? Or, how about a strong character who actually is strong by her actions and not by just a character profile description? Not one who declares something must be done and then caves.
Sigh.
On the plus side the world of this series is getting more interesting and the writing is getting better. I was not nearly so annoyed with the two 'h's of the last couple books.
I'll not write off the series yet based on this particular 'heroine'...but if this devolves into the 'must give up my alleged-spine and give in to the man/men who feel they have the hormone-driven right to control my access to friends/family/work/self esteem', well, no thank you.
When I saw this book was 3.5 I thought it was going to be shorter, but I am so glad I was wrong. This was a full story and I loved every second of it. I am just so happy Eve recognized that Carlie needed her own book and delivered us with this epic holy freaking hotness of a story!
Jungle Freakn Bride has to be my favorite of the series. Or close favorite its so hard to tell. One of the main reasons is because these men grew up as boys knowing that when they met their mate they where going to be sharing her. Its the curse of their tribe and so they know what to expect. It makes going into a menage relationship so much easier. There was never any tension about sharing or anything like that. Then of coarse the sex was just off the charts freaking HOT!!!!
Carlie was hilarious and even though these men technically kidnapped her she really took everything well. Her main problem was at first they weren't giving her any. lol It sounds weird like that but trust me you will see her point. And even though she desperately wanted some she wasn't going let these men call the shots. She totally kept them on their toes and took what she wanted when she wanted it. She shook up the jungle just by being an american blonde girl, and her being the only blonde jaguar but trust me she shakes things up way more then that.
Its such an awesomely hot read! The action and suspense where awesome and I loved how it blended into the 3rd Freakn story. Once we met Carlie in Ruth's book I knew I wanted her story and I got way more then I could ever ask for. Eve Langlais is so amazing! Her books are always awesome. I get a scorching hot read, some laugh out loud moments and one hell of a story. Her books are definite ones to check out!
Spoiler review: My favorite so far!! I read reviews ahead of mine and can see some women really Hate a dominating man. I loved it!! I loved kidnapping.. I loved how they turned her. that whole scene!! how they stayed at her bedside during her transformation .... this is a fantasy people. I always love the kidnapping stories. sure, its not everyones cup of tea. man.. one reviewer really irked me. to her I say, dont be so serious.. the thrill of the chase and half done "attempts" at escape... its erotic. its meant to be that way. silly snap backs by the heroine to try to seem brave or whatever... and the manly man. some women get off on that fantasy. KNOWING its just an erotic tale. how they cart her over their shoulder, pleasure her into submission.... etc etc.... to some women that's freakn HOT!!
yes yes eve uses the word freakn a lot... so what. its cute. its her thing. this is a fun book.
I loved how her mates used her own desire for them to their advantage. and I looove how she didn't let them break her. strong woman who got off on being dominated. yet also needed that understanding man. hence TWO mates. we all have that kinky side that side that wants a man to take it. and she certainly knew how to push her alpha to to take it. and you know They loved her.. and protected her. and she slowly came to realize her love for them. and it had a happily ever after! well done Eve. well done!!!!
This is my favourite of the series so far. This story runs alongside the one of Human and Freakn’ which featured Carlie’s sister Ruth on a mission to save her from her kidnappers. Although headed as book 3.5 I feel it best to read after Ruth’s story. This is the story of what happened between Carlie and her two kidnappers, who just happen to be a pair of freakn’ jaguar shifters!
Not only that but it shows what happens when a modern woman is thrown into a thoroughly traditional tribe. The situations that arise from Acat and Chaob’s (mainly Acat’s) chauvinistic view on how their mate should behave lead to some steamy scenes. Again this is a ménage book that will leave you panting and needing a change of clothing.
Acat and Chaob’s fine physiques encased in a thong loin cloth and their inability to talk to their American, opinionated female captive lead to them suffering and Carlie just having to tease Mr Kitty and Golden Grin (well a girl has to come up with nicknames) and perhaps scratching a certain itch herself!
Carlie I adored, when she uses the pair of them for her pleasure I fell in love, GIRL POWER!!!! My one criticism is she goes from having an IUD to being pregnant, ok so there is a period of time between the last chapter and the epilogue but it seemed like a bit of a leap, especially without the exchanging of the L-word prior to that, a small thing but hey it bugged me!
Please note I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This story touched a few uncomfortable nerves for me. I would have given it 2.5 stars but rounded it up to 3.
The story was okay but there was a little too much loss of control for Carlie when she was captured and transformed against her will. It felt too much like rape. I just thought Acat and Chaob were wrong for hiding so much from her so this story didn't work for me as much as other stories by this author.
I'm all for loss of control when it's a game between all consenting adults but that wasn't what happened in the transformation scene.
In fact the transformation of Carlie reminded me of a scene from Kelley Armstrong's book Bitten when Elena is bitten by Clay to be turned into a werewolf and she doesn't know what the consequences of that bite will be. It takes her years to forgive him for the betrayal of trust and what he forced upon her so I feel uncomfortable to see something so familiar treated so casually in what should have been a light-hearted story. I don't care if it was "tradition" as it still struck a very sour tone for me.
I'm glad this wasn't the first book by Langlais I had read or I might have stopped reading her. Luckily, this "rape" idea seems to be an anomaly not the norm for her usually amazing books.
The Moon Ghost jaguars Acat and Chaob are on a bride hunt and catch the scent of their destined mate, Carlie. Carlie is an American conducting research in the jungle and abducted from her tent by these two warriors who refuse to communicate with her, drug her and carry her off to a jungle "bride hut" to battle other warriors from their tribe for the right to mate her. I was looking for a fun light read and this one was a little much on the alpha overload side. Her sister also came to the jungle looking for her missing sister, which sadly was the previous book Human and Freakn' #4, which I read and could not recall at all. I usually enjoy EL books, but this one was heavy on the male dominance and the compromise and resolution came later than I would have liked. But the alpha heroes are hot and lots of smexy scenes, so those elements always make it better... And it had giant spiders, arghhh...
