The first book felt like more of an introduction to me. Alexandra and Balthazar were being built up just as the Demon World was being constructed.
This story takes the reader deep into the story and into the Devasi, the Asur, and the horrid Magi. Alexandra and Ballthazar are caught in whirlwind of an adventure as they deal with Demons, the threat of too many enemies, and the Human world. Oh, and Balthazar is fan of reality tv! (Slaps forehead and rolls eyes).
I have no doubt the last of this trilogy will steal my sleep.
"Demons Amongst Us " ia another good read in the Book of Demon series; but, I must admit I had a few problems with the storyline.
First, Alex is back in the human world pining away for Balthazar. Sam is also having trouble adjusting yo bring back especially after the slaughter of their friends and the torture he suffered at the hands of the Magi. He even wears a horrible scar on his face. The authorities have convinced him he was mauled by sn animal; but Alex is determined to get him to accept the truth.
Meanwhile Balthazar had found a way to enter the human world in search for Alex. However, the half-breed who is assisting him is determined to keep them apart. So, Balthazar hoes off on his own and finds Alex. With the hrlp of three guardian sisters they are determined to go back to the demon world accompanied by Sam.
Back in the demon world, things have definitely changed. Balthazar 's grandsire has taken over his throne and truer to keep He and Alex separated. There are do many twists and turns that at times the plot becomes a jumbled mess.
Another problem I had with this book is that the author has written in too many minor characters who pop in sporadically without rhyme or reason. For example in book one Balthazar and Alex go on three quests to gather items to create a new creature they name Peta. These tasks seem to be critical but when Leta us created nothing happens. Then Leta pops up in the middle of book two to give a warning. Then she is gone again. Time after time Alex, Balthazar and their friends are on peril and need to escape but in the end we have no knowledge regarding the where abouts or fate of anyone but Alex and Balthazar. Quite honestly it was getting pretty annoying.
I for one hope that the author simplifies the plot to dome extent to make the story more precise, concise and less taxing. All of the running around, excessive subplots that go no where and excessive minor characters are simply filler! Don't get me wrong, this series definitely has a creative spark. It just needs to be cleaned up. Read it for yourself and decide! By the way, this is definitely for 18 yrs. and older.
I had trouble staying interested enough to want to move on to the next instalment. Again, I can't stress the importance of proofing as there were still several mistakes in this book (I'm hoping there will be an edited version that we'll get to download)!
Also, there were too many subplots that didn't have any follow through, and they left me with more questions than answers, which frustrated me to no end. I really felt there was potential for this series. Unfortunately, I've decided to let this series go. Sorry Ms. Dove!
This book is YA for sure. The flow of the scenes is choppy, and not as detailed as one would like, but something about it also hold my interest. Alex drives me up the wall with her "as if" all the time. It's not the 80s. Find something else to say. I swear Balthazar only know "ripping throats out" is there any way he can find another thing to say?
However, I can stop reading it. I need to know more, and finish it. It's not predictable, which is rare to me, however, because it's so choppy, it doesn't always make perfect sense.
I didn't like Alex, she seemed like a bratty teenager. This should have been a YA book and that's what bothered me. I would hate to think that kids are reading this book. They are very impressionable, and the book is about falling in love with a demon. The thing that bothered me the most is when the word God is used. To me, it's God, but everywhere in the book, it's god. This book just wasn't for me.
I kept roaming to another book and coming back. Despite and plotting, subplotting, violence and budding love interest the book couldn't hold me for very long. The books are okay but I couldn't really get into them. I don't know...the writing is too simplistic. Maybe that is the wrong word. The plot is good. The execution, kind of lackluster.
excellent follow up, but the beginning of the book just didn't make sense at first since I had just finished book 1. I can't wait for book 3, but I truly feel these three books could have been just one book.
Again I would have to say this book isn't the best written or greatest plot, but it was entertaining enough. Part of me didn't really feel like anything got accomplished in this book. Some ideas were solidified but overall, not much happened.
Overall I liked this story but there was no real resolution in this. It just continues the story of Alex & Balthazar. I'm not sure how I feel about everyone they meet having ulterior motives. Still, an ok story that flowed.
Well this book just kinda dragged for me, it had some really good parts, then kinda dragged again, I'm still reading the series though. I'm one not to give up until I read them all
