Shadows will do anything to become human. You see their influence everyday. You say things you don't mean or do things that aren't like you. You look, different. Friends you've known forever suddenly never call. As a freshman, Roxie just wants to fit in which is impossible because she barely runs into her friends at her huge high school. Adrianne's disappearance and Hayden's attention rock Roxie's world. But nothing rocks it like the most gorgeous guy at school, Drew. And nothing is more important to Roxie than astral projecting back to Planet Popular to solve the mystery of the map. But that changes when Drew invites Roxie to homecoming. Hayden warns her that something's wrong. Why would a guy like Drew like Roxie anyway? Drew must want something. Hayden's right. Drew is... different. Planet Popular was just the beginning. Part of a bigger world, the Shadow World. There's a war brewing between the world of humans and the world of shadows. When the shadow invasion begins at Roxie's high school, she'll not only fight for her life but the lives of her family and friends, when she discovers she's the Shadow Slayer, the one human who can save Earth from the shadow onslaught. But, Roxie can't even kill a spider. Oh yeah, there's an evil English teacher, an enchanted play, a sword of Sandonian steel, a homecoming of horrors, and seven magic words too.

her daughters and grandchildren. Her search for the truth, wherever it leads, calls her on many adventures. Some come in heartbeats and others in decades. Shadow Slayer is the 2nd book in the series by author Laura A.H. Elliot.

We meet Roxie, a thirteen and a half year old girl who is entering her freshman year at Oakdale High School. Roxie just wants a boring year where she won’t have to worry about life and death, or obsess about peacock’s (popular girls) or popularity. What will await Roxie when she enters into this whole new world?

Soon after entering high school it seems like everyone is turning on Roxie, including her best friend Ally. Why is everyone acting funny towards her and what did she do?

Roxie finds out about the school play that is casting and she decides that this would be a great way to meet new people in this big school. She doesn’t think she has a chance to nail the part but she sure wants to try. There is also a guy name Drew who is trying out for the play as well and when Roxie sees him she finally knows that ten’s really do exist. Tens are the rarest of animals. She didn’t think they existed, but they do! Drew is proof. He is a very hot older guy and Roxie is immediately attracted to him. This just makes Roxie want the part even more, so she can spend more time with Drew the ten.

For the first time in Roxie’s life everything is going right. She is with a ten and Drew asked her to her first homecoming dance. But nothing can stay so good, can it? She knows something has to go wrong.

Drew tells Roxie that she is the Shadow Slayer. On their thirteenth birthday they get The Call, and by their fourteenth you find out what The Call is. Drew and Roxie are Halloween babies. You’re asking your self just what that means, aren’t you?

Roxie the Shadow Slayer finds out that she is the only one who can stop the onslaught. A Shadow Slayers duty is to protect the world of humans from the world of shadows. Roxie alone must slay them. Shadow Slayers live for five hundred years or longer!

Roxie finds out a Shadow has crossed over into the human world and broken the law of the seen and unseen. The Shadow world is populated with everyone’s alter ego, everyone’s shadow, which has no free will of its own.

After finding out her destiny from Drew, her friend Hayden tells Roxie something about Drew that rocks the very foundation of her world. She doesn’t know what to believe anymore. So now Roxie is faced with the reality that her boyfriend could be not what he seems. What will she do if she discovers that Hayden was telling the truth?

With Roxie finding out her new fate and what she really is, will she defeat the Shadow world, or will they take over the human world? Can she do this? Will she succeed? All Roxie wanted was a boring year of high school, but what she got was anything but boring. She is the Shadow Slayer.

I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about Roxie and her life. I felt bad for Roxie because all she wanted was a normal year at school and she got anything but that. You will love Roxie’s character and all the others. It’s a fast read, and its action packed. I was a little lost with some stuff because I didn’t read the previous book, and though it can stand alone I would recommend reading Thirteen on Halloween first. I give this book **** stars.

Quotes from the book:

“Yeah. I can’t wait to see your face. We were so wrong. I think we were wrong about a lot of things. High school is so much cooler than we ever thought. I mean, Drew actually smiled at me! Me, a six. A ten smiled at a six.”-Ally

“You ever ask yourself why a guy like Drew would like you all of a sudden?”-Hayden

“We don’t have much time. We’re both closer to our destinies. Closer to being separated forever.” -Drew

This is book 2 in the Shadow Series. I’m a big fan of just jumping in the middle of the series. I don’t know why–No. Wait. I completely know why. I don’t like having to listen to backstory which is usually IN book 1′s. Yes. I like getting straight the heart of the plot, which is usually found comfortably wrapped in most book 2′s. Look at me being all snobby and stuff.

I’m sure that book 1 of this series is going to be great! The writing in book 2 was really awesome. It’s written in present tense. For any of you who have been around long enough, I hate, loathe and DESPISE present tense! HATE it! With a passion!

However, Ms. Elliot knows how to write it so that it doesn’t sound awkward and annoying! I was amazed! In this book, the present tense telling of the story really helped to sync the reader with the main character, Roxie, without you even realizing it was happening!

The plot was great, as was the setting. The only reason this one gets four dragons instead of five is because I think Ms. Elliot could have done a better job at developing the characters. *shrugging head shake* But it’s not like the characters flopped. It’s not as though the connections didn’t sizzle for me. They did. Everything was good! I just felt it could have been a LITTLE better.

Overall? It was a fast paced read with a really gripping plot that unfolded like an onion! This book definitely makes it to the top of my list!

"Shadow Slayer" is Book 2 of Laura A. H. Elliott's Shadow Series and it does not disappoint. We First met Roxie in "Thirteen on Halloween" when she astral-projected to Planet Popular. Now she's a high school freshman just trying to fit in to the new environment of high school.

She still wants to go back to Planet Popular to discover the mystery of the map; but, it seems that all is not right on Planet Earth. Her friends are acting strange and her "perfect ten" boyfriend, Drew, is almost to good to be true.

The shadows from Planet Popular want to be human more than anything and they are trying to take over Roxie's classmates. It will be up to her to slay the shadow on her 14th birthday - Halloween.

I love Roxie's character. She's matured since the last book but is still caught up in all the drama of starting high school and trying to fit in. Elliott has made her a very believable young woman that anyone can relate to. The mystery of what is happening to her classmates is well developed.

This is a very engaging YA series and I can't wait to find out what happens to Roxie next!

Shadow Slayer continues Roxanne's adventure with Planet Popular and her teen years. In this book, Roxanne is 14. Forget the peacocks. Forget about popular. Now, it's all about high school and......Drew. Drew is perfect, with his golden eyes, awesome personality, etc. In fact, he's so perfect, he doesn't even seem human. That's right. He's not.

When everyone around Roxanne become shadows, Roxanne learns that she is the only one who can save them. Or else the shadow would take up the world and rule it. Roxanne learns that she is a Shadow Slayer. Shadow Slayers only born once in 500 years. They live for about 500 years. They are born on Halloween, when the world's mists are the thinnest and shadows can easily come onto Earth. Their goal is to get rid of the shadows on earth and send them back to Planet Popular. But luckily, Roxanne is not alone. Because, she has her companion, her boyfriend, the perfect non-human, with her. Who is he? And how does he know all that? Read the Shadow Slayer to find out!

I had so much fun reading this story. It was like I was starting high school all over again.

This story has action, but has romance all bundle so sweetly.
It would seem that Roxie has it all in the beginning, then it all changes. Her friends aren't what they used to be and things just seem different, but the one semi-constant is....Drew

Roxie is one unique girl, I have to give kudos to her character. I never would have pulled off being a freshman and managed "slayer" too.
She is my favorite by far...the typical teenager in love.

Drew's character is charming and you can tell the author had put more of a mystery about him. He was more old fashion, not your usual sixteen year old, opened car doors even kept up conversations on history. As if that happens now days...LOL

On opening night of the play......
The Battle begins and heads roll.......in the end though.......
an awesome Halloween read....Makes you double check all your friends to ensure they have their shadows...

I received a free copy of this novel for my honest review. Shadow Slayer is book two of the Shadow series. The story opens on Roxie’s first day of High School, reminiscing about Hayden and their last few days before school starts. You can tell by the memory that she’s hoping they will get back to how they were on “Planet Popular”. She loses interest when she meets sixteen year old Drew, “a perfect ten”. Drew then asks her to the homecoming dance and she excitedly accepts. Hayden implies that Drew isn’t what he seems, which adds to the mystery of the entire story. I loved the way this story was written, you can tell that Roxie has matured a bit since book one. This was a action filled entertaining novel, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This series is such a good, quirky FUN read! I love all the characters and especially

Roxie... She is awesome :) What do you do when you find out your the Shadow Slayer? Well you must see how Roxie handles it ..

Drew... hottie and too good to be true? You will have to read and be the judge of that

There is action and some sweet sweet romance all together... Laura makes her teens "real" with the way they come across the page you will get sucked right into the world she has created for them.

You will be checking everyone you know to see if they have their shadows!! EEEP

Cannot wait for more from Laura!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to 13 on Halloween. It was so magical, you know? I would describe it as a modern day Alice in Wonderland meets Sleepy Hollow. That was the kind of feeling it gave me. I felt like I was taking a ride on a magic roundabout as I was reading (I even read it as I walked the dogs!), I was completely hooked. I love books that are a little spooky weird (in a totally awesome way!), if you know what I mean. It was unlike anything I've ever read... which is one of the reasons why I love Laura Elliot's books so much. You don't know what you're going to get... apart from a magical read, that is. I highly recommend this book!

The suspenseful and charming sequel to 13 on Halloween stands on its own too. I adore this series and watching the heroine grow into her own. Elliott's characters feel very real even when thrown into extraordinary circumstances. She does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of a young teen. With a sort of Harry Potter appeal, I highly recommend this book for pre-teens, teens, and adults alike.

This is book 2 in Laura A.H. Elliott's series of YA novels and it was great! I recorded the audiobooks for both Book 1, "13 on Halloween" and "Shadow Slayer." I know the characters and story intimately and loved recording them. "Shadow Slayer" is a bit darker than the first book and is filled with romance, adventure, and intrigue. I highly recommend both novels and look forward to Laura's next novel.

"Shadow Slayer" is a fun fast paced YA novel with tons of action. Laura pens her characters lovable and believable in the second book of the series. You really need to read the first book in the series "13 on Halloween" before this book or you will be a bit lost. Recommended for all YA readers.

In the beginning pages of Shadow Slayer Roxie and her best friend are Ally are getting on the bus for their first day of high school. They are both extremely nervous and have no idea what to expect from the place they've dreamed about being in since they were little. While waiting on the bus they meet a new girl named Wanda. At school while Roxie sulks about having no classes with any of her friends Wanda invites her to try out for the school play. At first Roxie doesn't want anything to do with Wanda or the play but she soon changes her mind when the teacher forces her.

Being in high school isn't at great as Roxie thought it would be. All of Roxie's friends seem to either have found new friends or is avoiding her like the plague. Then one day Roxie sees a 10! A ten on the hot factor of guys, a perfect and she's instantly caught in the beauty of his golden eyes. Lucky enough she gets cast as the girl who falls for him in the school play with the hottie playing the main role. Drew the ten seems just as drawn to Roxie as she is for him, but soon everything is going to become dangerous not only for Roxie's friends and family, but the world. For Planet Popular was only the beginning, and now the shadows want what they always have, a human life. Soon it'll be up to Roxie to decide the worlds fate when she finds she is the new Shadow Slayer.

Overall, this book I feel is still for the younger crowd. There wasn't as much Roxie speak as there was in 13 on Halloween. Shadow Slayer is full of many twists and turns that will leave you guessing the worlds fate until the very end.
